Many clients appreciate the prompt and compassionate care provided by the dedicated team, often noting how their pets received immediate attention during critical situations. Users have highlighted that the staff, including receptionists and veterinarians, are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, ensuring that both pets and their owners are well-supported throughout the treatment process.

Reviews commend the team for their thoroughness and attentiveness, with several clients expressing gratitude for the help they received during some of the most challenging moments with their pets. They often mention the effective communication and regular updates on their pet's condition, which enhances the feeling of care and involvement in the treatment journey.

However, a few clients have raised concerns regarding high costs associated with emergency visits, particularly during weekends and holidays, and the frequency of payment reminders which can cause added stress. Positive experience: The vet service was amazing! The vet we saw was fantastic, didn't push for anything not needed just gave us the information to decide ourselves. The only reason why I am giving a 3 star review instead of the 5 star is because of the excessive reminders to pay the invoice. I submitted my claim form to them within 24 hours of the visit. Since then I received roughly 7 reminders over 10 days via text, email and post. I understand they need to be paid, but my part to make this happen was done and was either waiting on them or my insurer. I mentioned this and they didn't seem to care simply stating "these are automatic, and include a line to ignore if already done". Not the point I was making and all these reminders are aggressive and anxiety causing! Hence the 3 stars.

This is very useful as it helps us understand and identify areas for potential improvement, so this has been passed on for you. Have a great day!

Negative experience: I had really bad experience at this veterinary practice. My Badly injured kitten was examined By one of the veterinarian and she was adamant in the kitten needed it to be euthanised but I refused because Apart from the kittens she was eating really well playing really well and didn’t seem to be in any discomfort. I said this to the vet but she didn’t seem to understand.. This vet Then give me a strict telling off and told me that if I didn’t take the kitten the next day To my own vet, she will be calling RSPCA on me. My plan was to get a second opinion anyway, So off we went And thankfully, the vet we saw was a lot more qualified’ and decided to put her in antibiotics and see how she gets on. Two weeks later my kitten was pretty much fully recovered without any surgical intervention. This vet was prepared to take her life based on a brief check over.

Negative experience: i had to have my dog pts here 3 years ago, it was extremely sudden and traumatic. When I was having my last moments with my dog a customer was chatting and laughing loudly with the receptionists, they didn't ask him to keep his voice down and were also laughing loudly and my dog was getting stressed, my usual vet used to light a candle when people were saying goodbye and would remind people to be quiet, but there was no consideration here at all. When I was having my last cuddle with my dog who was still very much alive the vet brought me a brochure of urns and asked for me to choose an urn??. My dog was still alive and I was having my last moments with her!! This should have been an email at another time, not in my last moments with my friend. It was unbelievably insensitive and really damaging to my last memory of being with her. When she had been pts and she was taking my dog away the vet carried her out with her head flopping and didn't warn me not to look and I saw her face, you'd think they'd bundle them up somehow or at least warn you. Thats burned into my brain forever too. I'm not going to contact the practice there is no point, I just hope that they have improved their sensitivity to peoples pain.

Negative experience: Extremely unhappy with the vet I saw Sunday evening. I have made a formal complaint. 35 days to respond! Diagnosed my dog with a bleed on the brain or brain tumor after barely checking vitals. Suggested to put her to sleep. Now it’s Wednesday & she is okay on medication for an ear infection! £400 for the appointment! Would not recommend the out of hours service! Thursday update. Just got back from another check up with the vets. Confirmed it’s an ear infection & has been given the correct treatment. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS TO VETS NOW! The photo attached is my dog today alive & well which is lucky considering the terrible advice given by this company! PLEASE AVOID & GO ANYWHERE ELSE!

Dori Jo Posted on Google 6 months ago

Negative experience: I rescued a cat - found him in the middle of Portland road motionless in complete shock whilst driving a van commercially - and brought him in. He was taken into a room and from that point on staff treated me like a nuisance who has no right to have any information about the welfare of this animal. I wanted to know whether he has been examined by a vet - made a phone call two days later -, if he had been transferred to a rescue centre or the owner showed up (he wasn't chipped unfortunately.) "All we can say that he is alive." I didn't try to find out which rescue centre he had been transferred to or who is the owner. They treat you like a clueless idiot who has no rights to ask anything and can't wait to get rid of you. It's bizarre. There is zero compassion, common sense or shared love for animals at this place. It's a factory. I feel dehumanized by their communication with me.

Fantastic experience: I have had a couple of good experiences with this vet but the last visit was outstanding. Our dog was attacked by another dog and although his injuries were minimal the staff were really sympathetic and understanding. They were honest with us that he probably didn’t need to see a vet but in a very kind understanding way that didn’t make us feel like we were over reacting. They also gave us some good advise on managing our dogs interactions going forward after the attack

Positive experience: The vets and nursing team were great but the front of staff during a weekend visit were letting the team down. I did not receive the documents I needed to make an insurance claim until after I picked up my cat meaning I had to pay off pocket and claim back which would have been avoided had they enabled me to start my claim on time. They were also not very helpful with anything in relation to insurance or answering questions. This should not dissuade you using the practice though as what matters most is the actual expertise of the vets themselves who were caring and kept me up to date with honest prompt reports every few hours.

Negative experience: My dog had a nasty cut on her chin, so I wanted to get it checked to make sure it didn’t get infected. We waited over 2 hours to be seen- a quick triage when we arrived would have been reassuring, but no. I was offered a cup of tea while I waited and the student nurse at the desk was friendly.- hence the single star. When we were finally called in, the vet checked her temp, pulse and quickly looked over her. She offered a pain killer, but at that point my dog wasn’t distressed. I asked if she needed any preventative treatment like a tetanus shot (as might be done for humans), she said no. She didn’t even clean up the wound. It cost £313 and 3 days later, the cut is infected and we need to go see the vet. Waste of money, waste of time.

Hi there, many thanks for your positive feedback.

Zee Posted on Google 9 months ago

Negative experience: We waited nearly 5 hours to be given 6 antibiotics and 6 painkillers.. We arrived with a dog with a severe abcess and swelling leading upwards from her cheek toward her brain. We had already gone through a stressful process via an app we were instructed to use to video my dog and explain the issue. After umpteen times of explaining it would be dangerous to leave it even one more day, I finally asked who would be held responsible if something happened to my dog, and that soaking it in salt water was doing nothing, they finally caved and gave us an appointment... Having bn referred via pdsa and vidivet, we arrived at half 8 in the morning. We're let in, gave our name, then waited over an hour to be triaged, even though there were only two other animals in the place. The other two people said the same, they had been told nothing. There was no movement or feedback as to how long the process would be. During the time, several other animals arrived and were seen and dealt with, all minor issues, apart froma dog which was brought in convulsing, and understandably rushed through to be seen there and then, certainly not an issue when a dog is in a life threatening situation, and I did expect a wait. Three hours later i asked if they had a rough idea how long it would be. My 81 yr okd father had brought us and wanted to stay outside in the car, but it was an extremely hot day and i was concerned ut would make him ill, i also worried my dogs face was continuing to swell and i explained this to the receptionist. She was lovely but could only say it shouldn't be too long.. After another half an hour, nearly all the other animals had come and gone, all paying customer's i noted, and we still hadn't been told much. Finally the assistant called us and we were then told we weren't allowed back into the consulting room, they would take my dog, shave and clean the wound and give antibiotics. I had noticed they did this with all the animals, no owners were allowed back into the consulting rooms area, which I found very odd, and being unable to explain the issue to a vet is just weird. They brought my dog back after 5 minutes stating she wouldn't hold still to be shaved or cleaned (had I bn allowed to be with her, she may have..), but they just advised we clean the wound again at regular intervals.. obviously.. Then proceeded to give me 6 antibiotics and 6 painkillers.. enough for that day plus one morning dose the following day.. So 5 hours later we were given as bare minimum as they could possibly give us n Sent on our way.. Granted this was a urgent referral on a bank holiday, and financed by the pdsa, which I will be donating to as soon s payday hits!, but it is still paid for, and Zetland road will still get paid, probably an extortionate amount to have seen us!, and so the care and proper treatment should have been in place. To my mind, it definitely wasn't. The vet also treated my Rottweiler as if she was some monster, stereotyping a breed is not something I expect from a vet, but when bringing another smaller dog through and my dog trying to sniff it, the vet reprimanded my son to 'can't uou take her over there!", as if she would hurt or lunge toward the other dog.. All in all I came away relieved my dog had atleast started the antibiotics, but sure I would never go near vets now at Zetland Rd, ever again!. 5 hours of the worst vet experience ever.. had I been paying i feel it would have bn a whole different ballgame, but even the ones who paid were left to wait nearly as long, they were just spoken to nicer when they were eventually seen. Do not recommend!

Fantastic experience: I can't thank you enough for helping Jasper on the weekend. It's always an emotionally tough time when your pet is sick, harder still on a bank holiday weekend. We did have to wait a few hours to be seen, but every case is an emergency & I was informed of this. The vet was kind and gentle to my cat and explained in detail treatment options & what to expect. Although my cat isn't yet back to his happy self, he is doing so much better. This wouldn't have been possible without the out of hours service.

Fantastic experience: After a stressful day with my Miniature Dachshund being attacked, and being a sunday, out of hours vets was my only option to getting my Dachshund on the mend. After consulting a vet via vidivet, (recommended!) They advised me to take my girl to the surgery, staff there was amazing, friendly and VERY helpful, putting my Dachshund at easy, She is now 2 days past this, and is doing really well, like nothing has happened. Toyiah Adams Posted on Google 11 months ago

Negative experience: Would not recommend this veterinary practice at all! I took my dog in as she kept being sick after every meal, I was given antibiotics sickness tablets. She had a blood test and came back normal apparently. I also said about her constantly laying with her bum up. That wasn't acknowledged at all. I took her to another vets and told them the same, they said it indicates something wrong with her pancreas. She had a scan, showed she had a 6cm sized pancreatic tumor which is now so big that it's causing an obstruction to her stomach and she's got less than a few weeks left and this could very much of been avoided when I took her to vets 4 pets months ago.

Positive experience: I'm satisfied with the emergency service my dog was offered on a Sunday evening. What shocked me was the price, over 400 pounds for consultation and a blood test. Fantastic experience: My boy went to them quite poorly after having major surgery, the team were lovely, especially phoebe, and were nothing but empathetic and helpful. Everything was explained fully to me, even the possibility of the worst, again in a caring way. I left him knowing he was in the best possible hands. I sadly had the phone call I'd been dreading and was assured that he wasn't on his own, and will be cuddled, and for that I am eternally grateful. Nothing but empathy and care from everyone from phonecalls, to me picking up his things along with a card with his paw print and a lovely message.

Fantastic experience: I visited with my cat Paperro for the second time last weekend and both the receptionists and vet Phoebe were so nice and reassuring, I was worried sick about Paperro and they took really good care of him. The receptionist even made me a coffee. He’s not an easy patient either so I’m extra grateful for their help in getting him better.

Negative experience: Our dog was in pain and waited over two hours with no triage or explanation, was told it’s like when you go to A&E, it’s the same thing! When you go to A&E you do get triage and doesn’t cost £300 to walk through the door. It wasn’t the waiting it’s more of the lack of communication and reassurance, if they had looked at my dog and then I waited I would’ve have understood but sitting there with no updates is poor!!!

Amanda Matthews Posted on Google 1 year ago

Negative experience: My poor dog snoopy had to be operated on and restitched by our own vets after having a sedation and staples by vets now out of hours surgery. It got so infected it was dreadful. He had been given such a small cone and not given the right dose of antibiotic's. My son was charged £250 excess and my petplan excess is £100. They are refusing to give my son his £150 back. Never again. I have much worse pictures of snoopys infected wounds if youd like. It was a bad dog bite .

Negative experience: After a stressful night, with our cat being sick and driving across bristol, I WILL NOT TAKE ANY ABUSE OF YOUR FINANCE DEPARTMENT, SENDING MY FAMILY "PAY OR ELSE" LETTERS/E-MAILS. £40 pound fee for "dealing" with the insurance means " YOU DEAL WITH INSURANCE" since receiving the treatment, all we do is ring our insurance company to fill in the gap of YOUR miss communication. today received the last letter from you, which just put the nail in the coffin. Educate the finance department on how to communicate with people, not excell sheets

Fantastic experience: I personally couldn't take my dog to the vet but a family member was able to. I was informed by my family what was wrong with my dog and he was seen quickly. The vet was very pleasant and friendly. They couldn't tell me exactly what was wrong with my baby boy and when I spoke with the receptionist, she could only give me a little bit of information regarding my dog. He's okay now and he will be seen at my own vet to make sure it's nothing serious and to find out more information.

Fantastic experience: The staff were really kind and helpful, and saw my dog straight away as soon as we got there. We had received good advice and specific instructions over the phone too, which made the process very smooth. We were kept informed of what was happening, and we were also made aware of any risks that the treatment may have. We were however able to take my dog home the same evening, and she was absolutely fine the next day. My dog is also quite a nervous dog, but she was incredibly comfortable in the staff’s presence. Fantastic service - thank you :)

Negative experience: I took my cat there after he cried while he was peeing, they said he is okay, gave him anxiety pills, charged me for £300. After a week it showed up that he has urine system problem. One evening he was really bad, I called them and said they wrong-diagnosed him and he needs to be checked. They say I need to pay another £300. When I explained I already paid and they couldn’t diagnose his illness, they offered me 10 minutes online consultation for £24!! Great job, amazing professionalism!

Fantastic experience: Had an emergency late at night with my dog, had no idea what was wrong and had never seen anything like what she did before! Called my vets and got the out of hours team who deciphered my panic and gave clear Instructions and comfort followed by texts and emails for info. Turned up and they gave my dog the once over, reassured me and made sure she was safe to be at home. Even working in healthcare when one of my dogs have an emergency you want easy access to vets and support which I have had for over a decade from Zetland Vets and Vets Now. I always recommend them as my older dog is still here down there skills and 24hr care - Thankyou

Katie Thorne Posted on Google 1 year ago

Positive experience: A mixed review. Some amazing staff who seemed to genuinely care and some who seemed to not be that bothered, ironically it qas after these people looked after her that she became worse. Getting a text to demand payment after registering we would be making a direct claim is one thing, but to send the message less than 12 hours after I dog had to be put to sleep as health condition untreatable, is cruel. Thank you to the staff who actually cared.

Fantastic experience: After eating a whole corn cob I had to take my dog to the out of hours vets at 8pm. She was seen promptly and vomiting was induced via injection. 1/2 later one very unhappy dog but luckily all the cob had come up and surgery was avoided. Receptionist was v helpful in explaining the insurance claim procedure and we were home by 10pm. Very straightforward procedure from beginning to end which is what you want in a worrying emergency situation.

Hi Nadine, I know it can be frustrating having to pay for an unplanned trip to the vets. Much like it is for other out-of-hours services in other industries, It's more expensive to run an out-of-hours pet emergency service than a general daytime practice. We've broken down where our costs go here if you'd like to find out more: https://www.vets-now.com/2018/01/emergency-vet-costs-prices-fees/.

Negative experience: Called them around 8pm as recommended by my own vets for after hours care - my dog had had surgery and was in severe pain and distress. Was told a vet would call me back, waited hours and nothing. Called again and told the same thing. They never called. Got a text this morning saying "if you're still worried about your pet, try a video consultation" but by this point I'd rather wait a couple more hours and take him to a vet I trust. Good job he isn't dying, eh? Complete and utter disappointment.

Peggy Jones Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: After being concerned about my dog and my usual vetinary practice was closed, I was signposted to Vets Now. The team at Zetland Road were all extremely friendly and professional, took their time to look over my dog and perform various tests. Thankfully the outcome was a lot more positive than I had been expecting and we were free to return home after a couple of hours in the surgery. In the nicest way possible, I hope I never have to return, but if I do, I know my dog will be in good hands.

Fantastic experience: Vets Now took very good care of my poorly dog Mutley when he was in Zetland hospital overnight. I was grateful for the telephone updates so I could hear how he was doing after the handover in to their care and before they handed him back to Zetland. He is now home and much better

Fantastic experience: My dog had been poorly with stomach issues for a couple of days, over Easter weekend she deteriorated and required the out of hours vetsnow service. They saw us very quickly and explained everything going on and laid out a treatment plan with transparent upfront costing. Unfortunately my dog had to stay for 2 nights, but all the nursing staff and vets involved were friendly, professional and very informative. The vets made regular contact to keep us updated. I felt very safe in the knowledge my dog was being well looked after and has now made a full recovery. Thank you!

Positive experience: Vet was very knowledgable. Very expensive as bank holiday. £295 just to see a vet - without any action or medication. Did help out my cat so grateful for that. But bit upset they also add on a donation without asking (all in a good cause, but as someone who is financially finding things a bit tough at the moment - was a bit upsetting! - I do hope they donate, as someone who gives an annual sum think (which I budget for) think it was cheeky). When a drug cost £1.27 and the handling charge is £25 kinda makes you sob! Think just because I work for the NHS makes me appreciate what we have for humans. I do have insurance. But still found it a really high priced experience!

Rachelle Fletcher Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Thankyou to the Vets Now staff who looked after my cat Milly after she passed away on Wednesday. They warned me she would look different on collection due to the storage process (frozen). When we collected her we had a quick peek to say goodbye and the way they had prepared her was very dignifying. Her eyes closed, mouth closed, curled up and paws wrapped in. She looked very peaceful and it really helped provide us with some closure. The only thing we wish we had known was that they could have done a paw print for us, we werent thinking straight at the time we bought her in and we hadnt even considered this until a few days later. Hoping we can find her collar, too. But this team were very compassionate, especially the vet who bought her to the car for us. She had very kind words for us. Thankyou.

Jack Saunders Posted on Google 2 years ago

Negative experience: Sadly our cat passed Oscar away Christmas Day and the team at Zetland were absolutely excellent and helpful . Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the support / payment team who following this advised they wanted to put in the insurance claim to our insurers on our behalf, and refused to allow us to do it for them - very bizarre. Following this they have asked where the final amount is, and asked for us to chase the insurer (which we have done throughout), but refused to provide the details of their claim which I am not convinced they have done. This has all been a result of Vets Now not allowing us to lodge the claim and incompetency of their aftercare staff. Would consider using another, local vets if you can for better support!

Negative experience: I felt that the doctor didn’t value life and made requests for euthanasia again and again based on the dog’s condition that day. No support was provided. The dog was suffering from diarrhea at the time, and there was no suggestion that he could give him salt water or any food to sustain his life. As a result, the dog died that night.

Jean Pickering Posted on Google 2 years ago

Negative experience: Grossly overcharged but I’m assuming it was because it was a Sunday. My dog had a 2cm cut in his leg which had stopped bleeding by the time we got to the vets. Felt what could have taken 10 mins was stretched out so they could charge me £386!! He had his leg shaved, the cut cleaned and dressed. I was supplied with a cone of shame which I didn’t use. He ripped the dressing off within the hour so my daughter redressed it and it stayed firmly in place until I removed it today. I had to pay £250 deposit there and then which basically almost wiped out my bank balance. Will I get this back from the insurance company? The nurse and the vet were lovely but I feel nice been robbed

All the staff was spectacular, could not of been treated better. Care was excellent ,regular updates ,and monitoring of my fur baby. Was given the opportunity to spend time with her, without being rushed . Fantastic send off, would highly recommend this fabulous team.

Liam McKinnon Posted on Google 2 years ago

Negative experience: Perfectly happy with the veterinary care received when I brought my dog in. However, I am very disappointed with the insurance process. I paid £25 for Vets Now to administer the insurance details, yet I am 2 weeks on from the appointment and this has not been done, nor do Vets Now answer emails or phone calls so I'm unable to speak to anyone on this matter. I was told this £25 fee would 'speed up the process'. It is doing the opposite - delaying my claim. Not happy.

Chris Barham Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Exemplary overnight care for our poorly kitten Belle. Thorough going over details of care, costs and next steps. Prompt supplying of invoices and receipts to ease stress of insurance claims. The staff were really caring and Belle clearly was looked after well. Thank you.

katspray Posted on Google 2 years ago

Negative experience: I called the vet with a older dog who I was very worried about. The vet would not give me a clear yes or no as to whether we needed to bring her in, I felt, because she was busy already. I made the decision to bring her in at 330am. Good job I did. She may well have died if I hadn’t. When I got there, I couldn’t gain access. So had to call the receptionist, who didn’t greet me well. My dog was poorly right outside the door of the vets while we were waiting to be let in. It wasn’t cleared up probably and it was gastro related. The next morning when I collected my dog, there flies flying around the entrance where she had been poorly and you smell and see blood. The day dogs were coming and going up and down the ramp where she had been poorly, probably picking up the virus! The bill from 330am to 730am (the time they wanted her collected) was almost £900. And all I got were text reminder after text reminder, when my dog was critically ill at the small animal hospital. Will never use this practice again.

Alexandra Billington Posted on Google 2 years ago

Positive experience: The vet was good, however, post-appointment, I keep being sent messages saying I have an outstanding balance - despite paying the £25 admin fee for a direct claim. I haven’t been able to get hold of Customer Service to check it’s all ok/being processed. Which is additional stress, when you’re worried about your pet.

stuart campbell Posted on Google 2 years ago

Negative experience: The vets were lovely but the process was awful. I had to drive to a vets an hour away in an emergency and the cost was roughly 3 times what I would have paid previously for a similar out of hours service from my vets. And yes I know I can now send them an e mail if I want......

Fantastic experience: I am so impressed by the wonderful staff at this emergency vets. We brought our little dog Indy in on Saturday evening after he had been knocked over up on The Downs. I must confess we were in a complete panic at the sight of his injuries, but these wonderful nurses and vets sprang into action and took him straight in to be assessed, calming and reassuring us at the same time. He was given fantastic care and treatment and although it is early days I am hopeful of a complete recovery. I cannot praise them enough. Thoroughly recommended.

Positive experience: Vet was really good prompt action, I think was Rebecca Armstrong, she was really nice and explained everything in details. Reception at the clinic was nice but slow, and minimum attention to details, wrote all my details wrong, (whole name) even though I spelled it, send the paperwork in the end to the wrong email, eventhough I wrote it down and spelled it. But most important dog is doing well. Thanks

Negative experience: I attended late at night on 4th July with a very sick 5 year old female dachshund who was keep in over night because she was bleeding from her back end. They cared for her over night and put her on a drip and painkillers. I was told to come and collect between 7.15am-745am the next day 5th July which I did. On collecting my pet I was very concerned my animal was in no fit state to be released from their care but was assured by Hattie the vet should would be ok to travel to Portishead to my vet. By the time i got to my vet my animal was in such a poor state of health and died by 9am on 5th July. Two vets at my own practice in Portishead said my dog was in no fit state to be released from their care having read the case notes and examined my dog. I will be making a formal complaint about this practice as my dog should never have been released from their care.

Fantastic experience: They were absolutely brilliant. Had to rush my dog in at 21:30 they saw him straight away and were very good at explaining the process and risks of treatment. A lovely lady who worked there had sat with him for a few minutes whilst I went to the toilet so he wasn’t alone. My boy is now all better. If I was local, I’d register with these.
