Vets for Pets - Bristol Kingswood: Reviews
Positive experience: Very lovely team. My kittens were well cared for.
Thank you for your lovely feed back!
Kingswood Vets for Pets
Negative experience: My Frenchie has long-term allergies, and after our first visit I was told I could get a repeat of his tablets anytime without another consultation. Three months later—his symptoms exactly the same—I was suddenly told I had to pay for another appointment just to get the same medication. This feels like poor communication at best and a money-grab at worst. When a clinic gives clear instructions about repeat prescriptions, they should stand by them. The inconsistency here really makes it feel like the focus is more on charging for extra consultations than on actually supporting dogs with ongoing conditions. For a place that’s supposed to care about animals, this experience didn’t make me feel like my dog’s wellbeing was their priority. Really disappointed. My reply: Thank you for responding, but this still doesn’t address the real issue. During the original consultation I was clearly told I could request more of the medication without needing another appointment. At no point was I told this only applied if I physically collected it within three months. If that had been explained properly, I would have acted within that timeframe. On top of this, I’m not even sure how far past the three-month mark I was — but it couldn’t have been more than a few days. It’s frustrating that such a small difference resulted in a complete refusal to provide the medication when my dog’s symptoms hadn’t changed at all. A bit of understanding and flexibility would have made all the difference here. I also need to mention that when I called your practice, nobody said anything about a free consultation being available. Your admin staff told me I would have to pay for another appointment. If this was genuinely covered by the care plan, then why was I not informed at the time? This inconsistency is exactly why this whole situation feels so unnecessarily difficult. And even if a free consultation was technically available, I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect clients to use their limited included appointments for something that should have been straightforward — especially when I prefer to keep those for actual emergencies, not to fix unclear instructions. The way this has been handled does not make me feel like my dog’s wellbeing or continuity of treatment was the priority. Instead, it feels like I’m being penalised for poor communication on your side, which is very disappointing from a practice meant to support pets with ongoing conditions. I hope you take this feedback seriously, because clearer information from the start would have prevented all of this
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We appreciate the opportunity to offer some further context.
At your dog’s initial consultation, the vet dispensed three weeks of Apoquel and noted that further medication could be supplied for up to three months from that visit, provided it was collected within that timeframe. As Apoquel is a prescription-only medication, RCVS guidelines require us to carry out a recent clinical examination before continuing to prescribe it. This is an important part of managing allergic conditions, as it allows us to check how well the medication has been tolerated and confirm it remains the most appropriate treatment for your dog.
As more than three months had passed since your dog was last examined, we are unable to dispense further medication without a follow-up appointment. As your dog is on our care plan, this appointment could have been covered using one of the included consultations at no additional cost. This requirement is based on our clinical and professional responsibilities, rather than financial considerations.
We’re always happy to discuss any concerns and support your dog’s ongoing care, and would welcome you to contact the practice directly if you’d like to talk this through.
Many Thanks,
Megan

Fantastic experience: Amazing staff who always hell to the best of their abilities
Thank you for the lovely feedback!
Fantastic experience: I've taken my cat Bear to Kingswood Vets for Pets Kingswood for the last 10 years. Over the last year he declined in health with thyroid issues and heart disease and I eventually lost him last month. All the staff at Kingswood Vets for Pets from reception to the vets have shown me and Bear such kindness. They also communicated with my insurers and got pre authorisation for treatments which was a huge help. Losing a pet after 15 years is so hard but I felt that the vets had given me all the information I needed to make the right decisions for him so I can feel assured we did everything we could to help him. One day we will get another cat when we are ready and I will use KVFP again.
Thank you so much for your kind words and for trusting us with Bear’s care over the past 10 years. We’re truly sorry for your loss; Bear was a very special boy and it was a privilege to look after him. We’re so glad our team could support you during such a difficult time and help you make the best decisions for him ❤️
Fantastic experience: Fab service every time. COVID precautions followed even when extremely busy. Always knowledgeable and go the extra mile, as well as being reasonably priced (small animal). Glad this is my local. (Part 2) I’d already written a 5* review but they just keep going above and beyond with their level of care. Yazmin extended the life of our rat Pat with heart failure by going out of her way to research and make a custom medication plan for her. After Pat passed away last week the team have sent us a hand written card, again reinforcing that they care so much even for the tiniest of animals. Some great people working for this business. They have also carried out two successful mammary tumour operations on two of Pat’s sisters. Forever grateful!
Thank you so much for updating your review and for sharing such kind words about your experiences with us. It truly means a great deal to the whole team.
We were especially touched by your comments about Pat. Our team always strives to go the extra mile for every patient, and it means so much to know that the care and dedication shown helped support her and extend her time with you.
We were very sorry to hear of Pat’s passing and are glad that the card helped show how much she meant to us; every patient, no matter how small, is special to us. Thank you again for your continued trust and support; feedback like yours really does mean the world to us.
Fantastic experience: Great service, great staff, trust 100% with my pooch health care
Thank you for your words, we love seeing Dilly when she comes into the practice ❤️
Negative experience: The vet said he wasn’t concerned about our dog when we took him in even though our dog wasn’t able to stand up with his legs collapsing. They said they would keep him in and monitor him. Racking up a huge bill for literally nothing. Our dog ended up passing away. I wished I hadn’t taken my dog there and believe if he had better care then we would still have him with us today. Definitely don’t reccomend this veterinary practice. The vet was extremely nonchalant, charged a load of money and weren’t concerned leading up to our beautiful boys death.
Hi Jessica,
We are very sorry for your loss of Manet. Losing a beloved companion is heartbreaking, and we understand how distressing this must be for you.
After carefully reviewing the clinical records from Manet’s visit, we can see that our veterinary team carried out a full assessment, provided treatment to manage his symptoms, and administered medication to help reduce the risk of deterioration. Our vet also recommended further investigations and arranged referral to a specialist centre. Just to clarify, Manet sadly passed away a couple of days later whilst he was in the care of the referral centre.
We appreciate that, during such an upsetting time, it may have felt as though more could have been done, and we are truly sorry if our communication did not reassure you in the moment. Please know that our team was focused on providing care for Manet and acted in his best interests based on the clinical signs presented.
We would still be very happy to discuss Manet’s treatment with you directly, or with the veterinary professional you mentioned previously. Our intention has always been to provide the best possible care, and our thoughts are with you as you cope with his loss.
Kind Regards,
Megan

Negative experience: We’ve been with the vets for a long time now but I felt pretty much ripped off today. Yes everything is going up cost wise but wow £105 for 5 minutes with the vet and treatment for an eye infection. My dog has had an eye infection many times before and I never paid that much. Shocking prices.
Fantastic experience: The staff are lovely, and always willing to go above and beyond. it is always spotlessly clean and tidy. They even remembered our Dottie, who had major surgery a few months ago. Had to rush our Lula to them today, literally had a two minute wait on the phone able to take her up within 10mins. Absolutely fantastic always give .
Negative experience: Rip offs, Took my dog for eye infection £49 for check up which is about right £10 for eye test not bad Prescribed 2 eye drops for humans which cost less than £20 for both which can be purchased anywhere Total bill cost £150 They charged us £90 for the eye drops
Fantastic experience: All the staff are lovely and our Nellie has been spoiled with all the affection. She recently had a tooth out and everything was explained really clearly to us and we felt like they listened to our concerns and questions. Very much appreciated
Fantastic experience: Smokey was being sick on 2nd May contacted Vets for Pets by phone that morning they advise to see how she was later during the day but she was still being sick so called them again had a appointment that evening she was given a good examination and a injection to stop her being sick advised to give her chicken and rice for a day which is was fine by Friday and no more sick . Excellent service from all of the team At Vets for Pets Charlton Road Kingswood Thankyou
Fantastic experience: They did everything they could to save my little fur baby rocco. The staff were very supportive and professional
Fantastic experience: Will always fit you in if you need to see a vet and everyone there is so caring and lovely. Not always the cheapest but always feel like you are in good hands. My dog absolutely loves all the staff there, and actually left our local park today and walked herself there, with me chasing behind, so keen was she to get to her appointment .
Fantastic experience: Never nice paying for pet bills. But the friendly staff always see you quickly and explain things well. Never had an issue with our cats treatments.
Negative experience: Told me my hamster was fine and that I was just over stressing ..12 hours Kate it died
Fantastic experience: Such a great practice - Catherine and her team took wonderful care of my cat Oscar over the years and when it came time to say goodbye, Rowena handled things with such compassion and sympathy. The reception and nursing team are always helpful and friendly, even on really busy days. I can't recommend them enough.
Fantastic experience: Have been with these vets for quite a few years now. They are a great vet. Always managed to fit our pets in when an Emergency. Very understanding when you lose a pet. Which helps so much. x
Fantastic experience: I've used a different vet for others pets. I so impressed from the moment I walked through the door. The receptionist staf were very friendly. The vet was amazing, she explained everything is easy understandable language, brilliant service.
Fantastic experience: Receptionist very friendly and always has a smile and time for the animals. The vet was extremely helpful regarding willows diet. Took really good care of my fur baby , very caring and calm.
Fantastic experience: Really friendly one of our dogs can be quite nervous. Your receptionist and the vet made lot's of fuss of Lola. The vet checked Teddy first this made it easier for the vet to check Lola out as she could see Teddy was absolutely fine with the vet. The whole experience was stress free this was due to your staff they not only listened to our concerns about our dog's. As Lola had been previously abused I was a little concerned about how she would get along with the vet. I really had nothing to worry about I left with two very happy Chow Chows. The other thing I wanted to say was about your price's I was with Animal House and since they have now been brought by Zetland Rd there price's are astronomical so I saved over a £100 pounds yesterday. I will now be moving all my animal's over to Vets4Pets not only for the money I will save but because of the care my animal's received yesterday. You have a lovely team in Kingswood and Lola and Teddy are looking forward to there cuddles when they come back for their vacations.
Positive experience: Quite busy place but everything as should be. Vaccination and general checking of my Ginger passed. See you next time
Fantastic experience: This was a check up following my cat’s operation (amputation). All the staff have been wonderful, all the way through. Marco’s treatment has been so well explained to me. You have taken the best care of him and he is now happy to come into the vets because he feels comfortable with you all. You have all also been very caring towards me and my family at a worrying time for us. Thank you all so much!
Fantastic experience: Having my beloved dog put to sleep after 13 years together was never going to be easy, but the staff here definitely helped make both me, and her, as comfortable and at ease as possible, gently explaining the process, allowing me time alone with her both before and after the fact, and generally being very kind, comforting and understanding during the process, even sending a card in the post offering their condolences after, which was a very thoughtful and unexpected gesture on their part which was greatly appreciated. They made a difficult time as easy and smooth as they could, and I'll always be grateful to them and glad that It happened here where I felt the staff did truly care.
Fantastic experience: Great aftercare service for surgery. We’ve always received a very high level of service since we got our first dog 18 months ago - have always felt supported, listened to, and not overcharged! Recommended to anyone with a pet!
Fantastic experience: We've been bringing our cats here for the last year and a half and have never had a bad experience. The reception staff are lovely and the vets are very knowledgeable and caring. Thank you for looking after our little ones so well! :)
Fantastic experience: The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable & reassuring. Whether I’ve seen a vet, nurse or receptionist they always have a pleasant way with my pets & myself. Even when I’ve made just a telephone call, for an enquiry, I feel like I’m receiving the same level of care as if I’d walked in. Great work!!
Fantastic experience: Words can't describe how amazing this practice was for me and my dog. Pets are a member of the family, Catherine and her team understand this and treat both you and your pet in that manner. I started taking my dog Pip here when I moved back to Bristol, Pip was old and needed a lot of care. She suffered from chronic bronchitis just to add to the complications. I had regular visits and every time it was informative, helpful with no confusion. They gave me options to keep her comfortable up to the very end, never giving up on her. Even when I had to say goodbye, the team were outstanding. This is no doubt the best practice I have taken Pip to over the years. I can't recommend this place enough.
Fantastic experience: Have been taking my cats for a number of years - even through Covid - have always been polite, caring to my animals, and listened to any concerns I may have had They were so kind and thoughtful when I had to say goodbye to my beautiful girl and gave me time to be with her Place is immaculate and staff are very friendly
Fantastic experience: It was my 1st visit to the site as a new puppy owner. I was greeted quickly outside and given the run down on what to expect etc. The vet came out with my puppy and ran me through the next steps, also answered my probably mundane repetitive questions all new owners have. The vet was very helpful. They did have my puppy's DOB down wrong which cause a minor issue but it was soon rectified. I look forward to an ongoing positive working relationship with the surgery as they came highly recommended from a canine specialist.
Fantastic experience: My first time visiting with my new puppy and I felt really welcome. I had to wait outside due to covid but the vet came out introduced herself and told me what was happening. I was able to have a same day appointment for ear troubles so had no idea what to expect! The reception lady was also very kind and helpful as she helped get my purse out my bag and explained the cost. They also knew my next appointment and clearly read my puppies information. I am really pleased I have registered with a lovely veterinary centre :-)
Fantastic experience: Firstly, the message notifications are really useful. I'm aware that as a pet owner I should keep track of it, but many times things get in the way, you loose records etc. Vets 4 Pets, send me reminders when my pet needs to have treatments, routine checks, vaccinations. The staff are always very knowledgeable, friendly and are always great with my pet, he's definitely not a fan of going to the vet but the vets and nurses take good care of him every single time.
Negative experience: Thoroughly disappointed in this place! Have been using them for many years but just recently we have had an ongoing issue with our cat! We have taken him there before for stuff and they were great! If we’ve ever had any issues with our cats, where we could claim on the insurance, they have always claimed direct to the insurers! This is where the lies started! I was told they don’t claim direct with our insurance company , which was a lie as they had claimed twice before! The second lie was that our insurance policy doesn’t cover cat flu! They haven’t even diagnosed him with cat flu yet and there’s absolutely nothing on the policy to state it’s not covered! To top it all, after settling the bill myself, they charged us for antibiotics, which they then forgot to give us! All they seem worried about, since COVID, is getting paid! On another occasion they have even given us the wrong medication! This medication CANNOT be taken by one of our cats, but they had clearly mixed the notes up, so it was meant for our other cat.
I am sorry that you feel you have not received our usual high level of service. If you would like to discuss any of the issues you have raised please contact us via [email protected]
Fantastic experience: As it was still during lockdown restrictions it felt odd to speak on the phone and speak to reception and drop them off at the door. However i have always been impressed how well they remember me and my cats. They are always helpful and reassuring. I know and have seen them to do the best to settle and care for my cats in the practise. One of my cats is blind from a road traffic accident and has required intensive surgery and aftercare. Despite all this he is still excited to smell the surgery hear the staff voices and happy to be treated at the kingswood practice.
Fantastic experience: Our pet was very poorly after only 2 days of having her! We managed to get her seen straight away with the vet Kate, and after 7 hours, we had her home and on the mend! It was awful to see our puppy so unwell, but were so very grateful for all they did in helping her get well so quickly.
Fantastic experience: Incredible place to take your pets, they truly look after them, no matter the pet you have. The staff are always compassionate and ask how you are doing as well as treating each animal with care and respect. I will only use this vet from now on. The waitimg room and private rooms are always clean and welcoming.
Fantastic experience: All the staff were so helpful and made me feel fully at ease. I am a first time owner of a adopted cat and they gave me loads of info and explained everything through to make out first vet visit a helpful one. Also the pet plan is super good and a great value for money.
Fantastic experience: They are so wonderful, caring and compassionate. I couldn't think of a better Vet to take my belived Kitty to. I would highly recommend this veterinary practice to anyone.
Fantastic experience: A great vets. Phoned at 8.35am had an appointment by 9.15 and appointment done and back home by 9.45. No waiting time, very friendly receptionist and the vet Tom was very helpful, polite and caring towards my rat. Thanks very much for a very quick experience, when your pet is sick this type of service is brilliant.
