Negative experience: ⸻ Losing my dog was devastating. What made it even more painful was the way communication was handled throughout my experience. When I first called because my dog had collapsed, I was told they were dealing with another emergency and to call back in ten minutes. At that moment, it was truly a life-or-death situation. Pet owners need immediate guidance, reassurance, or clear triage direction in emergencies. Being asked to simply call back left me feeling unsupported during the most critical moment. Tragically, my dog was put to sleep due to a splenic bleed — a situation the vets could not have changed. Afterwards, when I raised concerns, I was advised there was a 14-day timeframe in relation to my complaint. This was later described as a misunderstanding. I understand that miscommunications can happen; however, clarity and consistency are especially important when someone is grieving and seeking answers. The shifting explanation added confusion and unnecessary stress at an already traumatic time. Rather than clear accountability, responses often felt focused on process rather than acknowledging the emotional impact of the situation. Clients should not have to repeatedly push for clarity when raising legitimate concerns. While reports were eventually provided, the overall handling of communication added avoidable distress during an already heartbreaking experience. I hope Holly House reflects seriously on how communication, triage procedures, ownership, and empathy are delivered in situations where pets’ lives are at stake

Fantastic experience: Such love and care for animals. Our dog needed overnight emergency care , and that care was exceptional not just to our dog but to us too. Everyone there was caring and respectful and explained everything to us including the financial side of things. I hope we never need there service again, but would definitely recommend

Fantastic experience: I would like to express my deepest gratitude for the care and compassion you showed our cat, Tank on 24th Nov 2025 Dr Amy explained all of the options clearly and answered every one of our questions with patience and understanding. Although it was an extremely difficult moment for our family, her calm guidance helped us make the kindest decision for Tank. When it was time to say goodbye, Dr Amy and the team there made sure we had the space, privacy, and time we needed. The arrangements she provided allowed us to sit with Tank, talk to him, and spend our final moments together in the most peaceful way possible. We are truly thankful for that.

Negative experience: Obviously they help and care for animals but prices are astronomical, insurance were shocked at the prices and refused to pay out the full amount because there charges were predatory. Would not recommend this vet at all. Wolf in sheep's clothing.

Fantastic experience: Had to take my stepdaughter's ferret to be checked as he was limping and Tom the vet was brilliant he explained everything and let us ask any questions we had. Reception staff was lovely and helpful.

Negative experience: We normally attend White Cross vets, who are excellent. They refer to Holly House for emergencies. We rang early Saturday evening as our dog had something stuck in his teeth/mouth. We’re advised to keep trying to get it out and send a video if necessary. We rang Abbey House in Morley and were told to go in straight away. Kylo had to be sedated to remove some red material that was stuck between his teeth and wound round his tongue. He has now fully recovered. Holly House should have asked us to go in - but they didn’t see it as an emergency.

Fantastic experience: I brought my cat to see them as I was worried that he was unwell and was going to die, they looked at him and said that he was unwell and was going to die.

Fantastic experience: I found myself having to use their emergency service in the most distressing circumstances!? They were AMAZING. Extremely fast, caring (to my cat and me), considerate, and totally transparent with everything (potential cost/s, outcome, and afterlife care) My husband called them to make arrangements and to pay but they did not push or request immediate payment. Fantastic experience: We took our cat through the night when she suddenly became ill. The vet was very sympathetic and caring. Offered to take paw prints and clipping. They looked after her until the crematorium could collect her. Would use again.

Fantastic experience: Having called holly house when my beloved dog fell ill suddenly I took her straight down to holly house unfortunately my dog was not great and I had to have her put to sleep the vet sadie and vetinary nurse louise were absolutely fantastic maintained compassion and professionalism through out our time there thank you

Fantastic experience: We had to call Holly House when we were overseas because our elderly cat was showing possible signs / symptoms of pancreatitis and I was very worried. Holly House are the emergency vet for our usual vet and I haven’t needed to contact them before. Melanie, who took the call was just so unbelievably kind, warm, helpful and took time to listen (as I was fairly neurotic!) talked me through options and liaised with the vet to provide some feedback and what to look out for - she also followed up with an email with details and what to do if our pet sitter needed to bring our cat in. I was just so impressed - thank you! I can’t comment on treatment which is a good thing for me - but if the customer service is anything to go by this is a great place!

Negative experience: AVOID HOLLY HOUSE VET AT ALL COSTS – MONEY COMES BEFORE YOUR PET’S LIFE I’m writing this review as a devastated and furious pet owner who deeply regrets ever trusting Holly House Vets. If you value your pet’s life and well-being, do not go there. My cat was perfectly healthy and playful before we brought her in for a simple vaccination. That’s when everything started going downhill. After the vaccination, the vet insisted we purchase a combined flea and worm treatment which we trusted was safe. However, we later received a call from the same vet admitting she had prescribed the wrong medication for our cat. This wasn’t a minor error giving the wrong treatment can seriously harm an animal. We were so concerned by the mistake that we asked her to confirm it in writing, and she did. I have the email as proof of her negligence. Following the visit, my cat’s behaviour changed she became less active. A few weeks later, she came back from outdoors with a limp tail and stopped pooing for several days. We went back to Holly House for help, hoping they’d take real action. Instead, they told us we either had to put her to sleep or take her home and we asked what if she still not pooing they said give as a call; that’s it no tests, no scan, no explanation and they charged us over £100 just to say that. We asked whether she needed an X-ray or any further checks, and they completely dismissed it. Thankfully, we got a second opinion elsewhere, and another vet gave us affordable treatment. Within hours, she finally passed stool and started feeling better. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the end. She wasn’t eating for a few days and I was really worried, so yesterday I took her to the Holly House emergency hospital. The first thing they did was confirm I was ready to pay £180, before even seeing my cat. I said yes because money meant nothing compared to saving her. The vet barely examined her and immediately gave us two cold, extreme options: either pay £1500 just for diagnostic tests (with no treatment included) or put her to sleep. No real diagnosis, no real effort and on top of that, they pressured me to make a decision quickly, saying they needed the room for further emergencies. I was completely shocked. That £180? It was just to be rushed into a life or death decision, with no proper care Once again, we walked away and took her to another vet, where she was treated with real care, for a much lower cost, and with genuine empathy and professionalism. This place is heartless. Holly House Vets care more about how much they can charge you than they do about your animal’s life. They were ready to euthanise my cat without even understanding what was wrong. That’s beyond negligent it’s cruel. I will never go back to this clinic, and I urge anyone reading this to take their pet anywhere else. You deserve compassion, proper care, and a vet that puts animals before profit. Holly House failed us completely.

Negative experience: Prices are way out of the normal range, all they are interested in is making profit from your sick pet! £50 for a DOSE of metacam whilst in the vets, when a full prescription bottle is around £30.. along with all the other charges for single doses of medication.

Fantastic experience: After waking up to find my 23 year old African Grey very weak and in respiratory distress I rang round trying to find an emergency avian vet appointment. After being advised he needed to go into hospital we made the trip to Holly House. Everybody was amazing, explaining everything, keeping us informed about his progress and the cost at all times. I was happy he was in good hands. He made a rapid recovery and I would like to thank everyone for taking care of him.

Fantastic experience: We had to take our cat, Nectar, to Holly House out of hours, and the care we received was exceptional. The team was professional, compassionate, and incredibly thorough, which made such a stressful situation a little easier to handle. They explained everything clearly and treated Nectar with such kindness and respect. It’s reassuring to know that such great care is available when you need it most. Negative experience: I am sorry that the lives of animals are worthless to them. My cat's hand was injured at home. I took him there quickly and they gave me a form that I signed for three hundred and fifty pounds and I was happy that they were helping my cat..! The next morning they sent me an invoice for 750 pounds and if you don't take the cat, it will be more than that!!!!!!!! My cat was not treated, why!!!!! They didn't even bandage his hand!!!! and they just asked for money!! I spent a week in a hotel and didn't spend that much money, what did you do for him and now I have to go somewhere else and get a scan! This is daylight robbery and I really feel sorry for this company

Positive experience: Don't get me wrong, my dog loves the vets, and they are really good. 99% of the staff are truly amazing, but the cost is problematic. £60 for a consultation is fine, but then the final bill includes £40 for 'extra consultation' and a staggering £90 to bandage. If you look deeper into the company that owns Holly House, it's owned by a company that clearly just wants to rinse pet owners....

Fantastic experience: My dog Wally was very poorly and we almost lost him with a pneumonia and stomach issue. These are the best vets I've ever been to. Communication was clear/objective, and the caring is in the little things they did, like a nurse running to Tesco to get tuna to get him to eat at least something. Shout out to Francisco, Jenny, Katrina, Cathy, Tom, Dan and the ones I didn't get the name of. Everyone was outstanding.

Fantastic experience: From the second we arrived, we were treated with kindness and compassion. Everyone who dealt with Faro did some with love. From the vets (Jen, Heather and Harriett I believe), to the vet nurses, the students and the receptionists - you treated him like he was one of your own pets. You fought so hard for him, persevering when the surgery didn’t look like it would succeed, and when we brought him in a few days later with stasis, you helped me understand that the nicest thing would be to let him go. Thank you for hugging him and giving him love as he fell asleep - I know he would’ve absolutely loved it. I genuinely cannot convey how thankful I am, nothing can ever repay everything you’ve done for us.

Fantastic experience: Our dog became really ill over the past week, so we booked him in on Thursday. As soon as we took him in, he completely changed and put on a brave face, which gave us and the vet (Sara, I think) a bit of hope that he wasn't as bad as we thought. However, we knew he was ill and that it wasn't really worth investigating or treating due to his age. The next night, he got much worse, and we could tell he wasn't just uncomfortable anymore and was starting to feel a bit of pain. We took him in early on Saturday and dealt with Gabor at reception and Abi as our vet. Sadly, we had to have our dog euthanised, but it was much more comfortable for us and our dog due to the brilliant and thoughtful service that we received. We will absolutely be recommending this vet to anyone we know. Everyone we have dealt with here was brilliant. They know your pets are a part of your family and treat them with the utmost respect.

Fantastic experience: They helped me with my budgie, they gave us medication to try and settle her breathing but she didn't change and they gave snowey the best care even let me and my daughter say our goodbye and last cuddles Thank-you all for your support through this difficult time

Fantastic experience: My golden retriever was really poorly after a stay at a kennel, when we took her there they took great care of her, did all the right tests and offered the best treatment for her. I can not recommend them enough. Unfortunately yesterday we had to put her to sleep, but throughout this past month they had been absolutely amazing on every aspect of her care. The vets and the nurses are all compassionate and caring, and communication was always on point. They accommodated us yesterday with a last minute call, and came to our house and made her passing such a peaceful experience, for her and for us. We couldn't have asked for more. Thank you to the whole team, we will always remember your kindness

Fantastic experience: Unfortunately, I had to take my cat to Holly House as an emergency on Christmas Day because she was very poorly. Jim put her to sleep and was so caring, kind and dignified and treated both my cat and myself with respect. The staff at Street Lane were extremely kind and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. I had never been to Holly House before.

Fantastic experience: Family dog ate raisins and after a discussion with an online vet they advised seeing an emergency vet. The receptionist was lovely, caring and knowledgeable. The vet was very good and answered all our questions, he admistered a prokinetic medication via IM to induce vomiting. Dog vomited and we went home with safety net advice and a few doses of activated charcoal. Thank you for working over Xmas period to look after our loved ones.

Fantastic experience: I saw a bluetit attached by a cat. It had a damaged wing so I put on a pair of gloves a put the bird into a box with a towel. I phoned Holly House and explained to them what happened and they said to take the bluetit to them and they will take care if it and once its recuperated they will release it to where I found it. Fantastic experience: I found a little baby sparrow on the road next to a car wheel it was very scarred, I looked around to see if its mother was about it was cold I put my hand around to keep it warm ,I then got I touch with Holly house and explained what I had just found ,they said bring it up to the surgery and they will take the bird of me , I didn't know what to do but poor little thing just wanted a chance in life ,thank you Holly house for helping me in my hour of need

Negative experience: They are good for an emergency but charged me for items I had not approved. When querying the additional £250 I was given a weak response. They held back giving my insurance company my details until this money had been paid. Communication was extremely poor and I would not recommend.

Fantastic experience: I found a sick hedgehog in my garden late on a Sunday evening. I rang their emergency line for advice as I didn’t want to leave the hedgehog suffering. They advised me to bring it straight in to the veterinary surgery, and they took responsibility for the care of the hedgehog. I was really impressed by their care and compassion. Thank you so much.

Fantastic experience: All staff, from receptionist to vet surgeon, were kind and compassionate to both us and our poorly dog. Our dog was brought in with a suspected intestinal blockage - the receptionist directed us straight to the hospital rather than sending us to the clinic. Good care started before we even arrived. We were kept updated with frequent calls and photos. She was given anti anxiety medication but she wasn't doing well in hospital and so she was discharged a day early. We all agreed it was best for her well being and recovery and she's currently resting at home with phone support from Holly House staff.

Fantastic experience: Not a good reason to have to visit the hospital as my young cat had aggressive cancer but the vet on duty was really good under the circumstances and gave me all the information I needed to make the right decision by her.

Fantastic experience: Sadly our dog did not pull through from her illness however the care for our beloved pet, and for us, was second to none. I have no doubt our dog remained in the best place to have given her every chance to survive and whilst it was not meant to be, I would not hesitate to recommend Holly House - they are tirelessly working to provide often an emergency and intensive level care service and should we ever feel ready to get another dog, I would feel reassured having them there. They are professional, dedicated, pragmatic, caring and thoughtful offering a really well rounded service around the clock both for the pets/animals and their owners, no matter the outcome - across the board. Fantastic experience: Saw us within 20 minutes of calling with our cat who’d injured his leg. High standard of care without pushing needless interventions. Caring and professional staff from reception to Vet nurse and vet. We are very grateful to have Holly House nearby.

Fantastic experience: I've had two lovely experiences with Holly House. Once when we lost our pet rat, Sherlock. They looked after him over night, but he sadly passed away. And more recently when my Mum lost her dog, Foxy. The staff at Holly House are friendly, compassionate and made the entire process of saying goodbye to our beloved doggle, just a little less horrible.

Fantastic experience: My dog decided to have an adventure. I walked the streets to find him. Fortunately he is chipped and the surgery contacted me after two hours of searching he had been handed in to Holly House they were brilliant and they looked after him well. Negative experience: My rabbit had her first vaccination few weeks ago, 3 weeks after I went back because my rabbit had serious wounds in her ears. Noone knew what was the problem they wanted to give an antibiotics in order to reduce pain and immflamation but there wasn’t any.. they still wasn’t sure about the problem so I decided to leave. I went to an other vet and he said at first look it’s one of the symphton of myxomatosis.. If the rabbit doesn’t get the vaccine early when it’s 5 months old, would get sympthons later. Then a week after they called me about the appointment I booked earlier for health check and they had no idea shes got her vaccine already, but she has got it there.. This vet been recommended to me but I’m not going back again..

Fantastic experience: I have been using this vets for over 20 years for my cats sadly I have had some of my fur babies put to sleep over the years they always kind and gentle have done fur clips and prints off their feet then received a card and some seeds forget me not they tend to charge more but always at the end of the phone staff are 100 percent would not go to any other vets

Negative experience: Absolutely shocking. The staff were slack and 3 different vets gave me 3 different conclusions which cost me 3 out of hours emergency appointments as I kept getting sent home. They say they ‘examined’ my cats paw, they just looked at it… didn’t even touch or shave it. Took me 4 weeks to find out it was just an abscess that needed draining, in the whole 4 weeks my cat couldn’t walk. Apparently it’s really common for cats to get abscesses under their paws, but instead I was told it was likely to be cancer due to my cats age…. Worst and most traumatic experience with a vets ever. Do not recommend!!!

Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing and caring vets, our cat got into an accident late at night, our regular vets were closed and this was the closest 24 hour vets open, they took him in no hesitation. Our cat ended up having quite a complex surgery and is now on the mend. They have shown so much love towards our fur baby and so much compassion to us as family, they don’t just offer care to their patients but their owners to. We were very anxious during the first few days of the accident and during the surgery and the kept us updated constantly and even sent us daily pictures and updates on what’s app which I think is very innovative, we also were able to and encourage to visit our cat while he has to stay in. It’s obvious they really spend time with the animals in their care and get to know them as they were able to relate to all the cheeky little quirks and traits our cat has. Our cat has a long recovery ahead and they are there to support us with all his after care, thank you so much to Roger who did the surgery on our cat and they rest of the team who helped look after him we are just so grateful to have our boy back home and we will never forget everything you have done for us

Fantastic experience: Can’t recommend enough! I phoned this place up on a Sunday of the bank holiday weekend, not expecting to get through to anyone…but they were super reassuring and gave me advice over the phone regarding concerns with our puppy. The vet was so understanding and made me feel at ease even over the phone. Reassured me that no treatment was needed for the issue, and we could go back to enjoying our weekend thank you so much for your help!

Positive experience: £200.15 to go down as emergency, cat assessed eventually cause another cat worse waited ages, then wanted nearly 3 grand thats to start, what the hell are these prices, vet very good dont get me wrong, so had to say bye bye, they didn't also push for payment, charged 40 to put him to sleep, week later elderly rescue cat, needed to goto sleep they wanted I think 90, confused dot com

Positive experience: A pair of large barking dogs in the waiting room was extremely stressful on arrival(they would have been better outside until called) but the rest of the experience was fine. Negative experience: My Mum 92 years old took her bunny as she was not well emergency appointment took bunny in the back to check glucose levels to see if she could wait ( no mention of cost ) the a general assesment by a vet hours later £87 not to mention the glucose test not mentioned to my mum £30 total bill appointment £193.22 Im sorry but an emergency appointment is NOT AN HOURS WAIT you robbing baskits your not in it for then animals your in it for the money. like the Dear that was knocked down and in massive pain did you assist and help put it down NO why oh you wont get paid they had to take it elseware that cared SHAME ON YOU

Fantastic experience: We went for a very sad reason but all staff were super caring, friendly, patient and kind. They made the passing of our baby girl Jess as painless as possible and gave us all the information was asked for in the clearest way so we could make the right decision for our girl. Negative experience: Usually good. But thanks to a vet being unable to read a request for tablets, decided it was best to prescribe a liquid....twice. On the most recent occasion we had to then scoot from Moor Allerton to Street Lane where, even though we were told they were expecting us, the rude receptionists failed to acknowledge us and essentially said that we would just have to wait. Very poor. Not really a hospital, just a business making money. We had to source the majority of meds from Wear Referrals. There, they charge £7 for the codine needed for our Dog to be comfortable. The same is £14 here. Pure greed.

Fantastic experience: Sadly had to put our rabbit down on a Sunday morning but professional and friendly service from the moment we rang, dealing with our pet in a caring and dignified manner. Out of hours service is never cheap and I just hope it goes towards paying these amazing staff members who have to work what can only be a horrible shift.

Positive experience: I had to have my very poorly cat put to sleep tonight and this was the closest out of hours practice. We were well treated but the £195 consultation fee (this did not include the charge for the euthanasia) was a shock and I feel unreasonably high and simply greedy.

Fantastic experience: My friend needed an emergency vet out of hours while away at work, I have witnessed his entire service and it's been excellent, in a time of extreme pain and give loss they were fantastic throughout and have delivered his pet back to him unfortunately in a very beautiful well presented casket with keepsakes and momento's exclusive to him, we will all miss Harley so much but I am glad he spent his last hours in a friendly caring environment.

Positive experience: Good service but very expensive. Spent a small fortune recently on their advice and I’m no further forward with knowing what’s wrong. They are happy to book you in for further consultations or meditation but are not up front about costs.

Fantastic experience: The vet we saw was the friendliest and nicest vet we've ever seen. This was an emergency appointment in the evening for our bunny who was struggling to walk on his back legs and she was so reassuring and kind. Wish this vets was closer to us so it could be or regular vets!
