Fields Vets is a well-established veterinary practice in the United Kingdom, known for its compassionate and friendly staff who provide quality care for pets. Many pet owners have praised the practice for their excellent customer service, noting how the staff are welcoming, helpful, and take the time to answer questions thoroughly. The clinic places a strong emphasis on pet well-being, with numerous clients highlighting that the team genuinely cares about their pets' health and comfort.

Highlights of Fields Vets include:

  • Compassionate care from reception to veterinary staff.
  • Friendly and knowledgeable team members who make patients feel at ease.
  • Competitive pricing with transparency regarding costs and services.
  • A Pet Health Club offering great value for ongoing care.

However, some clients have expressed concerns regarding recent experiences with certain veterinarians, citing instances of poor communication and lack of compassion during critical moments. Additionally, a few reviews mentioned dissatisfaction with how some consultations felt rushed or focused on upselling services.

Despite these mixed experiences, many long-time clients continue to trust Fields Vets for their pet care needs, noting that the practice has been a reliable resource for over 30 years. The clinic is often recommended for its great service and friendly environment that caters to both pets and their owners.

Negative experience: I’m really disappointed with the care my 16-year-old dog received. He was misdiagnosed and I was charged £480 for blood tests and a urine sample, yet his UTI was left untreated for several weeks. I decided to change practices, and my new vet diagnosed the UTI immediately. A consultation, urine test and antibiotics cost £91, and my dog is finally getting the treatment he needed. I hope he’ll now be on the mend, but the previous experience was extremely upsetting and costly.

Negative experience: Awful experience at this vets. I’m a new dog owner with an 8-week-old Rottweiler who went in for his first check-up — and we both left traumatised. The vet who came to collect us from reception (apparently the Clinical Director) seemed disinterested from the start. The exam table was covered in dog hair, which made me hesitant to put my unvaccinated puppy on it. The appointment felt like a tick-box exercise with little engagement or care. During the examination, the vet squeezed my puppy’s head so hard he yelped loudly. I was then told I “needed to get on top of this” because he’s a Rottweiler and “needs socialising.” My pup is well socialised — he was calm and friendly in reception — so this was not about behaviour but about rough handling. The vet then gave my puppy a random treat that had been left on the table, even admitting he didn’t know where it came from. We were advised to book him in for dew claw removal under general anaesthetic — at just 8 weeks old! To make matters worse, we were sent away with the wrong worming tablets because the vet didn’t listen when I explained we already had his 12-week dose. There was zero compassion, no real communication, and I left feeling completely inadequate as a new dog owner. I had many questions but didn’t feel comfortable asking them. We’ve since moved to another vet, and my puppy is thriving. I would absolutely not recommend this clinic if you want your dog treated gently and respectfully, or if you expect even basic empathy from your vet.

Negative experience: Avoid this Vets at all costs. My sister, a first time dog owner, took her 9 week old puppy here for his first appointment and both were left traumatised by their first experiences. Her pup was forcefully gripped by his head and chin whilst he screamed in distress. The table was dirty with dog hairs all over it. There was a left over “treat” from another dog that the vet admitted even he didn’t know where it had come from and what it was, whilst her pup ate it. She was berated for not letting her pup get used to other people when he had met several new people in his first week home and been to 5 new places. The treatment left her feeling completely inadequate and left her pup scared and anxious. What’s more, she even left having been given the wrong worming tablet! Will be spreading the word to all pet owners, do not ever take your beloved pets to this Vets!! If I could leave 0 stars I would.

Negative experience: Heartless and horrible, they do not care about your animal, all they care about is how much money they can get off you. Wanted to put my dog in for 4 grand surgery without x-raying her or confirming the problem and within 2 days of pain killers she was completely fine and back to normal. They show no attention or care to your animal and the vet actually stepped back from my dog in disgust. If you have a flat face breed they will judge you and look down on you before you've even walked through the door. I've now gone to another vets who actually care about my animal and will never use fields vets again.

Negative experience: Took my beloved cat here for years, paying the Pet Health Club for several of these years (until it became apparent it was too expensive and not worth the cost). I have also taken several family members pets here over the years. My cat could be aggressive and did not enjoy the experience (as many animals are) but the experience varied vastly depending on which Vet we saw, some were extremely professional and made the visit easy, some were awful and didn't seem to have any compassion for animals at all. The staff seem to be changing constantly. My cat recently died tragically and suddenly at home. When we called the practice in the morning to enquire about cremation services we were told that they had a 'collection' once a week on a Tuesday (it was Wednesday morning so leaving my boy a week in their storage, to be sent back to me was a horrid thought) and were quoted 'from' £375 for this external party service. This ended up being significantly more than the £205 private, compassionate cremation services, within 24 hours and including beautiful urn that I paid at Pets@Rest in Cwmbran. (Also reviewed). On this call we also asked that their system be updated to show that my pet had passed away and avoid any upsetting update messages regarding his future care. Of course the final insult is that they didn't even note this request and yesterday I received a text message and an email reminder about an appointment for my deceased pet. Obviously this was very upsetting and cemented the fact that this practice as a whole completely lacks empathy, compassion and any care about animals and their families. All they care about is money and trying to upsell you on unnecessary services. I will never use the vetinary practice again and will advise my family and friends to avoid taking their beloved family members there too.

Negative experience: My sister had to take her dog here to be put to sleep yesterday, and the experience was appalling. A different vet had already confirmed that euthanasia was the kindest option, but at the final appointment, the vet started talking about an operation, which was completely unnecessary and very upsetting in that moment. Worse still, the dog wasn’t even sedated first she was injected straight away on the table. The whole process felt rushed, cold, and without compassion. This was meant to be a peaceful goodbye, but instead it was deeply distressing for my sister, who then had to walk out into a waiting room full of animals straight after putting her dog to sleep. No pet or owner should be treated this way. I am appalled at the lack of compassion shown and the coldness of said Vet. Absolutely disgraceful.

Fantastic experience: Took my cat, Mouse for his first visit yesterday and everything from the greeting at reception to the thorough examination by the vet was brilliant. I left feeling very reassured that my cat will be well looked after. Mouse can be very timid in new situations but was quickly settled by the vet when he was seen.

Fantastic experience: Always good service darkie and dollar been going for the past 8 years says it all

Leah Charles Posted on Google 11 months ago

Negative experience: After 8 years, 8 pets, and thousands spent, and always paying my bills immediately, I was shocked by the poor communication and the rude attitude of the Clinical Director. I was chased for a year over a charge I was repeatedly told wasn’t payable, with no explanation during that entire time, only to be informed much later that it was due. At times, the service has also felt condescending, and I believe the practice has severely gone downhill. The confusion, lack of accountability, poor customer service and what I feel are greedy charges have led me to move on to source another vet. Sadly, I can no longer use a practice I once couldn’t speak more highly of and I hope they return to the high standards they once had.

Negative experience: I once give these five stars. However my last experience was Terrible. They give my cat the wrong medicine which was flea prevention but give me the size for a large dog. The medicine was in a set of three, the first month I applied, all good the second was the oversize dog medicine which resulted in an overdose and emergency overnight stay in emergency vets. It was only the fact my cat had additional winter fat on her that she did not die. After many complaints, the answer.....human error. So true, however not good enough. One traumatic cat who took months to become well again. It could have been so much different. They even had the nerve to say at the payment desk I would not be charged for the experience! Due to the additional check ups that was needed for her health! Now found a different vet who is awesome, and the staff are not stupid in the medicine dispensary.

Negative experience: Booked in for an appointment with an OV66 vet. Called up a few time (around 3/4), to check they were registered to export dogs and to help me more my dog. I got into the appointment and the vet couldn’t help me as he wasn’t registered to transport animals. Huge mess up and highly unprofessional. I wouldn’t recommend. Very unorganised as the vet blamed me for not speaking to a vet at the practice before. Unsure how I would have done this as I call up and speak to whoever answers the phones. They reassured me they have sent dogs over recently and would book me in for a longer appointment to help me with the process. Very disappointing.

Negative experience: I got pet plan for 4 years with this practice, the free check I have included in the plan this year was disappointed, did not exist. Just walk in with my dog and the nurse didn't check nothing, no mouth check , no ears . Made by a student nurse alone, every question I asked she didn't know , when I point this to reception the lady said need to book an appointment with the doctor and pay £60. Really I paid 20 monthly for something I don't benefit, as they never clips nails ,the flea and worm tratament I haven't received monthly. And also I discover the food I use to order from them is cheaper on Amazon !

Ceri Foley Posted on Google 1 year ago

Negative experience: Vet was very biased only spoke about Oreo weight, and in a very accusing way, said this could cause the scratching problems, then I got home and I've found 2 small lumps on back leg were itching awful service at an extortionate price.

Susan McCarthy Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Came here from Summerhill, with my elderly Labrador. Overall very happy with the practice, they appear to care and I trust them. They can hold different views (the same with any medical professional). I’ve seen all the vets here over the years I’ve been coming and they’ve all treated my dog with care and kindness and not been rough, or tried to straddle him as other vets have (he’s arthritic and has had TPLO so it’s very bad to bear down with any weight on him, but he can get a bit excited and has always had selective hearing). My Lab had an operation here to remove a growth and was given his own fan and comfortable bedding. Communication was good throughout either the vet (Marian) or receptionist rang me a few times- it was only a minor op and all went well, due to my dogs age and being a little plump the anaesthetic was risky but was a success and he was in good spirits after. I mostly see Ed every 4 weeks for a weigh in, then Librela and any other issues you get with older dogs. He takes the time to go through each treatment and doesn’t make you decide there and then if you are not sure. He’s seen Charles and Aston too. My dog is happy to come here, other dogs seem to be happy too. I never see any shaking/trembling like I have in other practices. It’s clean and doesn’t have that clinical smell. There is a separate area for cats and reactive dogs. I have found them to be transparent with pricing, there haven’t been any surprises, they’ll lay out alternatives and explain the pros and cons of each treatment. For example my dog has recurrent ear infections, I was told they can take a swab, send it to a lab who will ‘grow it’ and then recommend a treatment but if it fails to grow then I’ll have spent hundreds for nothing. So they took their own swab and ‘grew it’ in house which was a nominal cost. So now I know there’s a good chance that the bacteria (or whatever it is) will grow and they should be able to recommend a treatment. Fields are owned by IVC Evidensia (as are many practices) which is a private company who saw an opportunity to exploit the pet care industry and make profits. Vets don’t earn that much and they don’t personally profit from pricing. Vet practices are cheaper in other countries like the U.S because they aren’t privately owned. The only gripes I would have is paying £50 for a nail trim, it costs more than acrylics for humans! I think they have a scheme but I’m not on it. I also find it extremely hot in there at times.

HELEN THOMAS Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: This is a busy, caring practice with a good team of staff who work together to meet the needs of their patients some of whom, my cat included, make life difficult for them at times. They are empathic towards owners too, recognizing their need to grieve when a much loved pet dies. I have been a client at this practice for many years. 6/24 There are more vets working at Fields now; the staff continue to offer support to clients. Prices for consultations and treatments have risen. People need to factor in the costs of veterinary care when they get a pet. They do offer a pet health care plan.

Fantastic experience: Having been with Fieldsvet for 4 years, figured a positive review is way overdue. Each and every one of the team are amazing. Very accommodating, friendly and knowledgable. They really take their time to thoroughly check our pets and really do care about them. The surgery/reception area is also always clean and well organised which makes it a comforting waiting environment. We always leave the surgery extremely happy and relieved after every visit. Wouldn’t trust anyone or anywhere else with my two cats. Highly recommend them and the pet health club scheme they offer. Thank you so much again for everything. Much appreciated. :)

Fantastic experience: So please we discovered Field Vets, having had a poor experience with another Vet in the area, we were determined our new puppy would receive better care. Everybody at the practice is knowledgable and friendly, one of the vets even called us to give free telephone advice before we'd registered our puppy. Our experience at the practice was great, the vet was caring, friendly and thorough and we came away feeling happy and confident that the puppy is in good hands.

Fantastic experience: Fields has been my vet for over 30 years and I highly recommend them. My most recent visit was with my Yorkiepoo, Tilly. She was very poorly with a terrible tummy upset and passing blood. John listened intently to my description of her symptoms and carefully assessed her. Ed saw her again the following day. Diagnosis and treatment were swift and effective. She's now recovering nicely. Fields really do care for pets and their owners. Many thanks to all, bless you.

Fantastic experience: Molly recently had a growth and was seen by Charles. It was in a difficult area, combine that with a very anxious rescue staffy and you can see the problem, however, Charles was very very patient with her and really proficient in getting a fluid sample without batting an eyelid. Results were discussed in depth and we decided to have it removed. All costs were explained in full and no hidden extras. Once again Molly was treated with kindness and a lot of patience, from the moment we went in through the door. She recovered very quickly and was home by midday. This is unusual but Molly was unsettled and I had already said if she was struggling post op I'd be happy to get her sooner than the normal recovery time. Saying this when we collected her she was very bouncy and in a hurry to get home. We've been back for check ups and each time we have been met by pleasant receptionists, nurses and vets. Wound has healed well, results were fortunately good, benign adenoma, and this came back with a few days. Excellent all round.

Negative experience: First visit with a puppy. My puppy had some stomach aches and runny poo. Reception said we need to be seen because they don't like the sound of that. Turned up and was told it's normal for puppies especially for the 1st day in new home. Then we talked about vaccines and I was told I have start the course again and won't be able to go outdoors with the puppy for another 5 weeks. No other options given. Phoned up and other vets explained my other options for free! Surprise, surprise, we'll be able to continue the vaccine course and go outdoors in next 10 days! The vet seemed knowledgeable but also very interested in making money for the clinic rather then advising for what's best for the puppy in my opinion. I'd expect a completely different 1st time experience from somewhere they'd like us to return as my puppy wasn't checked over at all apart from it's stomach issue. Felt ripped off more than anything... Might consider going back as it's around the corner from us but will be very vigilant about their monetary drive and will check in with other vets first over the phone.

Aimee Christine Posted on Google 3 years ago

Negative experience: Tried to ring to get our 13 year old a dog a appointment as she had a wound on her neck I was told 'it's a skin condition' it's routine I said no it's a wound and it isn't routine 'oh well we don't have any appointments left, your have to pay emergency'. So my 2 dogs are registered at PDSA and I rang them they were extremely helpful and I sent them the picture of the WOUND and they told us to take her straight down she's now on antibiotics and cream then needs a urine sample!. No needles no nothing!!. A few years ago I took my dog here they wanted her 2 have a unnecessary operation on her legs it was through alphavets went PDSA and that's the very last resort!. They won't do anything unnecessary!. You were brilliant with my mum 1 dog but today you've really let us down!!! I'm not thick I know the difference between a SKIN CONDITION AND A WOUND!. Why is it always receptionists!

Fantastic experience: Always get friendly service & nothing is too much bother. The vet took his time & went through all the history of our fur baby’s illness & then went into great detail what drugs she would need & the side effects so that we were able to make an informed decision. Too many vets care about their bottom line, Fields Vets car about their patients more. Their care & thoughtfulness is above & beyond. Fields vets is not local to us, but we are happy to travel as we know & trust them

Fantastic experience: Cannot fault the care and understanding of everyone at Fields veterinary practice, they hadn't seen my beloved Kea for 12 years or more. They didn't hesitate to help me when I had to make the sad decision to let her go. Would highly recommend them. ❤️❤️

Fantastic experience: All three of my kittens have received excellent care and attention. The vet is very gentle and takes time to check them out thoroughly. I would also like to recommend this veterinary practice as, when I had my rottweilers, they could not have been any more caring and considerate - particularly when it came to their end of life care.
