South Wales Vets, Newport: Reviews
Fantastic experience: We've had an en excellent experience at SW Vets Newport with both our cats, one of which has very complex health needs. The reception team are always really helpful, appointments are quick to get and the vets and nurses are really knowledgeable. Thank you!
Fantastic experience: Fabulous Really polite and professional
Fantastic experience: Friendly and highly professional. Also fairly easy to get an appointment.
Negative experience: Avoid at all cost if you love your pet. ## update to prove ignoring south wales vets advice made him better ## I took my Spaniel to South Wales Vets on 28th January, after he was seen via video call by a vet the night before from pawsquad, who suspected an eye infection or irritation. He was prescribed antibiotic eye drops and pardale-V pain killers for 5 days for eye infection and a check up was arranged. The next appointment was 2 days later. By then he reacted well to the eye drops, his eyes started inproving in pictures. At the follow up appointment, I saw a different vet. They used a Tono-pen and prescribed him prednisone acetate drops (steriod drops) and arthrocam (stronger pain killers), as they felt the infection was still present aswell as inflamation. I wasnt expecting the following up appointment to cost double. But I understood, once the bill was explained, and continued to administer the new drops and pain killers. Three days after that appointment, I called video call vet again in the evening, as he was getting drowsy and weak. He was drinking more and eating more than usual. They advised me to go to the out of hours vets who were fantastic. He perked up at the out of hours, shortly after. I was lucky he was the only dog in the practice, so I was able to discuss his symptoms in detail, and he was well monitored over the space of a couple of hours, where he improved. The vet tested for ulcers or injury to the eyes, which was clear. He then advised that the symptoms are likely from the steriod drops and to lower the dosage to a stop. Also from experience of the breed and observations, it is likely due to allergies and gave me advice which helped him improve further. After i stopped the drops, he was no longer drowsy or showing symptoms of weakness. I submitted an insurance claim for the appointments. It was at that point, I realised that due to getting dates mixed up. I stopped the first eye drops 2-3 days early. I called south wales vets who prescribed them, as I was told in the first appointment, to complete full treatment, even if symptoms improve. They advised me to make an appointment, which I attended earlier today and south wales vets told me to bin them. I assumed they were going to see if he needed an additional prescription. Instead, before looking at him, a vet told me that the advice the out of hours gave me was wrong. She explained that the out of hours are rushed and work awful times, so often give rushed advice. She advised that the symptoms during the emergency vet, would not have been from the steroid drops and would be an underlying condition, meaning I need to pay a further 400+ pounds for a blood test and additional tono-pen test, which I could not afford. She said the only other option would be to put him back on the steriod drops, which I didn't feel was best. I therefore had no option but to stick to the vet's advice from 4 days earlier, and continue clearing his eyes and remove allergens for now. As a result, the vet opened her door and told me to go to a different vets if i feel that way, infront of a busy waiting room and receptionist which was mortifying. I've been visiting that practice for years with my old dog, but I knew at that point I couldn't go back. I thanked the receptionists as they were so helpful but unfortunately I wont be returning. Update picture below, Bandit on a 4 mile run today. South wales vet, should have tested the eyes with dye for scratches before prescribing the steriod drops and they didnt. Likely was poisoning his blood stream with steriods. Thank you south wales vets, for turning a simple eye infection and allergy, into 500 pounds worth of vet bills and made my dog more sick! Heard back from the insurance today. No surprise the out of hours vets submitted their claim but south wales vets havent despite me setting it up over the phone the same day.
Fantastic experience: Really friendly practice. 100% recommend Felt listened to when I have concerns about my dog
Fantastic experience: Fab service and staff, thank you
Fantastic experience: Managed to fit us in at last moment to be seen. The vetanarian was very kind and empathetic.
Negative experience: Extortionate prices. Used to be Budget Vets but now owned by Independent Vetcare Ltd. They do not care about the animals, just how much money they can make off you. £40 for a prescription only or buy the product for £37! Daylight robbery. I advise you to steal clear. The place is also disgustingly dirty and unkempt.
Fantastic experience: We always have a great experience at SW VETS Malpas The staff are very warm, welcoming and helpful both on the phone and ìn person
Fantastic experience: Always polite, helpful and welcoming!
Fantastic experience: Great experience at South Wales Vets
Fantastic experience: Very friendly and excellent service would highly recommend
Fantastic experience: Excellent service as usual, so polite and the staff are so friendly, very professional and compassionate
Fantastic experience: Very good customer service and helpful vet, really satisfied
Fantastic experience: Always treated well and every kindness shown to my dog
Fantastic experience: Lovely friendly staff
Negative experience: In 24 hours this robbing vets had £900 from me and showed no care. When it was budget vets they was extremely passionate and supportive of your pets. This latest experience with my phone constantly going off asking for money is a disgrace. When entering the vets to have my beloved dog of 16 years put to sleep all staff was sat behind the counter reception (5 or 6) having a tea and coffee whilst I stood infront asking where do I go ? Can I be seen please for £900 is this good service ? No care at all. Extremely disappointed and I would never recommend this shambles of a place to any animal lover .
Negative experience: Since using this vets, havent been impressed with the service or extra appointments they wish to add on and then charge. To get flea treatment, my pet needs to see a nurse then be weighed and be charged for the privilege. Stay clear, much better vets around.
Negative experience: Been with this surgery since it was Budget Vets and it was a wonderful place. Have just called them to request the transfer of my 3 pets details to a new practice and they couldn't be bothered to ask why I was leaving. I've been going for years. Obviously not a valued customer. Such a shame.
Fantastic experience: My elderly cat had her annual vaccination and health check yesterday. A very thorough check by student vet on work placement and then checked by Dr.Joe Carter. I was very impressed by both of them. So professional and competent whilst being friendly and caring. My questions were answered fully. I would recommend Dr.Carter to anyone looking to book an appointment.
Fantastic experience: Amazing! Friendly staff members health, the pet health plan has been a great bargain for us helping us look after our cats and keep our beautiful babies healthy.
Fantastic experience: The reception area is very welcoming. My appointment was on time and prior to it I received reminders The staff are all very professional and friendly
Negative experience: Would say the Vets are nice and did look after our dog well. My issue is with the cost. £65 for a consultation (this is reasonable even though its was 10minutes). I was going to claim it back through our insurance anyway however as we are with Animal friends the vets have to submit the claim on the portal. To do this the vets wanted an 'Admin' Charge of £37.50. I think this is ridiculous and shows they don't really care about helping you out they just want to make as much money as possible! This really let the experience down.
Fantastic experience: Took our 20 year old cat for her pain jab today. Vet nurse Callum AKA the cat whisperer was AMAZING!!! The cat didn’t feel it. She’s a stroppy old feline so this is unheard of. Callum - you are worth your weight in cat treats. Thank you x
Fantastic experience: Registered our new cat and had her vaccinated and spayed. Well priced, lovely vet and reception staff and the pet health club is excellent. Very pleased so far.
Fantastic experience: We really appreciate everything our vets have done for us. They have helped and supported us all the way through and are always there for us. Every visit has been reassuring and the reception staff are always friendly and welcoming. Thank you for your continued support and reassurance.
Positive experience: They are very good. They are very caring and they explain everything clearly, and if you don't understand, they will explain it in a different way. The reception staff are always friendly too. Their Pet Plan is easy to manage and saves a lot of money in consultation fees. The only downside is that their medications and treatments are a bit expensive and they don't have any payment plans to help to pay it.
Negative experience: Hugely overcharge for all services. Considering this used to be budget vets where afrordable veterinary treatment was priority. Now there always seems to be some sneaky additional cost for a treatment or requirement not discussed prior to charging and the prices are substantially higher than UK average. Just read all the 1 and 2 star reviews. It speaks volumes.
Negative experience: How they can justify these prices is beyond me for a total of waiting for 25 minutes in the waiting area..actual appointment 5 minutes ….
Fantastic experience: Always a warm welcome (the best receptionist) and helpful service. I have a monthly payment plan which works out well, they send regular reminders and always fit us in if an emergency.
Fantastic experience: Very caring and highly committed nurses who took great care of Kaeger whilst he was in hospital.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful vets, always friendly and welcoming and today refunded me almost £800 for not needing to do a procedure I'd already paid for! They could absolutely have told me they'd done it all and I'd be none the wiser, so nice to have a honest and trustworthy vet, who take the best care of their patients! Xx
Fantastic experience: Great vets alway helpful and friendly when we visit
Fantastic experience: Really really nice people , tried there hardest with my crocodile/cavaschon to cut her nails . Really fair on prices !
Negative experience: Can you please explain how your comprehensive health check is £24.99, yet for a 10 minute consultation and some eye drops is £160 Then you want another £57 to call back When you used to call yourselves Budget Vets, my question is 'Whose budget?' Ronaldo? Elton John? Elon Musk???
Fantastic experience: Very happy with south Wales vets very welcoming and always kept up to date with everything x
Fantastic experience: Very helpful caring staff very professional explaining everything in detail highly recommended
Negative experience: Exterior of the premises need more maintenance and significantly more parking. Staff Very friendly and professional. Not pleased that we have to pay a consolation fee every six months for repeat medication, although nothing has changed with the animals health.
Positive experience: Arrive on time was and told the vet was running late...didn't wait to long and another vet took over ..very happy with the service and advice give .10 out of 10 from Bonnie.
Fantastic experience: Thank you vet Jon Reilly, for your kindness on Monday when I had to bring my dog Jessie to the surgery,I was so upset you talk me through a very difficult time, you were so caring to Jessie Thank you
Fantastic experience: Been a customer of this vet’s surgery before under its previous name and it was brilliant and they still are South wales VETS
Fantastic experience: Had to travel down to the Newport branch as the one in Abertillery had no openings for vaccinations until mid October( by then she would have been sturer crazy and four months old b4 her first jabs)we had to travel half hour out of our way to get our baby Nova out and socializing sooner but worth it.Lovely vets very friendly and welcoming clean spacious waiting room. We were able to take our puppy straight in. Would recommend.
Negative experience: Sioned the vet at south wales vets should not be in her job! Her bedside manner is awful. She made our last few days with our dog Bella alot more stressful than it needed to be. Then even though she knew Bella was dying she wrote us a letter saying we were no longer welcome at the vets & I received it the day Bella passed away. The service was disgusting, they are just all about the money. Even though I said I would have a phone consultation as Bella had been on her meds for over 2 years they still insisted I took her there even though she was petrified & in her last days so they could charge me more. I would advise anyone with a pet to steer clear of this practise.
Fantastic experience: My cat Mikkie was really poorly, hadn't eaten for 2 days, was very sick and was in a bad way. Made an appointment for him in the morning for after work. Returned from work to find him much brighter but took him to the vets anyway. The vet thoroughly examined him and found nothing wrong, but did not rule out that he may have had a tummy bug. I felt rather silly to be honest, but she was so nice and reassured me that I had done the best thing. I have always had the best experience at South Wales vets and will only ever trust Mikkie in their care. Lovely , friendly staff.
Negative experience: I really wouldn’t bother is my honest opinion. Honestly I don’t know where to start with the Malpas practice, not only are they all about the money they are rude, liars and completely unprofessional. I have been taking my dog every 8 weeks to have his nails cut for over 12 months. My dog is not easy he is so scared and it takes a lot for them to do it and I used to be so appreciative to them all. But then all of a sudden they refused to cut his nails without being sedated. My dog is small and I pay a pet plan £21 a month which includes nails but now they want me to pay £42 as well on top. I expressed my concerns and my upset to this and now they have refused to have my dog at there vets. It’s inhumane they can do that. Absolutely disgusting and so unprofessional.
Fantastic experience: The entire staff are friendly and helpful. The vets are always gentle with my dog and he generally enjoys his visits to the practice.
Fantastic experience: Excellent, First time back after many years, and tollerating an alternative. My sweet little dog was given treatment , rather than excuses. The vet was so nice, explaining stuff in relation to my dogs health, Ultimately, acting to solve the problem in hand. Rather than ££££££ Thank you to them all
Positive experience: I wouldnt bother with abertillery branch. They hadnt sent any appointments for my dogs annual checkup, hence why i cancelled as he was not getting the care i was paying for. Prices was going up yearly. The pet health club was like £17 when i joined then £20 and afterwards, slightly before i cancelled they then wanted £21. It mounts up when your not getting any benefit or anything new. Also Hannah the head nurse isnt a nice person and very false, hated every visit when i came across her. My dogs flea and wormer could of been sent to me directly, they never mentioned this and i realised after many years other customers i talked to mentioned this was possible, instead i would have to drive three towns over and back, which mounted up overtime in fuel. I cancelled the subscription as i was not getting my money’s worth or any value for money infact. Shop around to get the best for your animals and not the neglect that i received. If you do decide to go for the pet health club, then make sure your getting everything your pet should be.
Negative experience: No greeting as we arrived ,very disinterested reception staff , very disappointing would not recommend to anyone , had to leave without treatment staff really weren't bothered when we left ??? Zero personality???
Negative experience: Poor service from start to end. Told one thing on the phone by the receptionist then to find out it's completely different when you turn up. Receptionist also has a awful little dog stuck in a pram behind the desk that starts barking all the time setting other dogs off. If you can find another vets I'd definitely think about going there instead. Also for the past 12 years we have been told front line doesn't work yet when we was here last the vet asked a customer if they wanted that or chewables. Staff are rude and unprofessional.
Fantastic experience: Can't fault this practice at all. Highly recommend. All the staff was brilliant and the care they provided for our staffie with her emergency operation was excellent. Can't thank them enough for the help they gave us, Without them our little girl wouldn't be here today. Thank you so much
Negative experience: Extortionate pricing, over charging on meds and extending a consultation doubling the price to answer a questio that took 1 min and reissue a script which I was charged for anyway. When questioned the practice manager tells me I was lucky he could have charged me more, but if I have an issue and want to go elsewhere, tough all the vets in my area are owned by the same parent company - really!!!
Fantastic experience: Excellent service and excellent atmosphere. Very considerate and friendly. Warm and cosy environment. Highly recommended
Negative experience: Shocking service . Couldn't care less about your family pet to busy trying to decide how much unnecessary work they can add to the bill. The astronomical prices wouldn't be so bad if they knew what they were doing but they literally haven't got a clue so many crossed wires. Save yourself the hassle and use these only for medication they haven't got the competence to do anything else literally.
Fantastic experience: Personal and professional service, well priced and excellent timing on appointments.
Fantastic experience: Always very friendly, professional with great advice for our 2 cats and dog
Fantastic experience: These vets are great, friendly staff and always sort out my pooches with care and consideration.
Negative experience: Cash over compassion. I rang to get a refill of my dogs medication and was told they would only issue it after bloods being taken. No problem, I asked that I pick up the medication and make an appointment for the next day as was too busy on that day to turn up with my dog. I have that pesky little thing called work that was getting in the way of me dropping everything at their command. How else am I supposed to pay their extortionate fees if I don’t go to work. Was still refused medication. Had to join another vet practice in order to get my dog back on the medication that is supposed to be given daily. Only
Fantastic experience: I have been using this vet for nearly 8 years since my dog was 8 weeks they have always been friendly and very helpful always answer any questions I have
Negative experience: Having been in the care of these vets for a long time, it's frustrating and sad that it feels money is now a higher priority for this practice than affordable and accessible care for their patients. Frustratingly years back they did "lose" a pawprint of a beloved pet when she was PTS, though we suspect it was actually never done. Following that they failed to notify us when said pet was back from the crematorium and ready to be collected. Weeks went by until chased up by us to find out she was there. More recently treatment has been needed in which a very simple appointment has come to nearly £300, £100 of that alone for the 5 minute consultation?! Truly extortionate. I do feel for those who perhaps can't afford insurance for their pets and consequently do not get the care required for their pets because they simply cannot afford the prices these guys charge. Long gone are the days of "budget vets".
Positive experience: The vets here are really lovely, they take time with your pet and explain everything clearly. It's also very clean and doesn't have any nasty smells like some vets I've been too.
Fantastic experience: Took our dog here this morning for her nails to be cut they were amazing with her so patient and kind thank you
Fantastic experience: Very pleased with the way they took care of my dog .
Negative experience: Really poor.had appointment booked over the phone and a text message to confirm. When we get there , there is nothing booked. Waste of journey. Told only 1 vet available so cannot fit us in for a booster. Naughty.
Negative experience: Very very unpleasant, £57.24 for consultation, less than ten minutes. Told me they can't help. I will be changing vets tomorrow
Positive experience: I've been going to the Newport vets for years, when I need wormer and flea treatment, I go in weigh my dog with the receptionist and they normally give us what we need. Now they have changed it that the vet needs to see them first. Absolutely pointless, why change a system that isn't broken, just putting more pressure on the vet. Wasting owners time when they could pop into pets at home and be quicker.
Fantastic experience: We had the most pleasant vet trip to date, it was our first visit with two cats in tow which was hectic enough and Mozart is a very nervous and fidgety boy but the staff were lovely and helped so much with them. Emily and her apprentice were phenomenal there isn’t enough kind words in the dictionary to say about them both. Her apprentice (I’m so sorry I can’t remember her name) was fantastic and going to make a great vet one day ! and we left with two happy (as can be) cats and two very happy owners! thanks so much guys.
Fantastic experience: The very best friendly staff and vets. Today's vet was so kind and patient. She was very helpful and knowlegable, tried to answer all of my queries with sensitivity all the while being positive and approachable with tha animals I brought in today.
Fantastic experience: I took my cat to the Newport branch on Friday, the vet was very through and now Sooty is booked in for a dental tomorrow. Update: The price for treatment was rather expensive all in has cost me over £900.00, however I don't find them dearer than other vets in Newport and they let me know the price in advance so there were no suprisies, and the veterinary nurses in Risca were lovely too.
Negative experience: My cat was poorly in August. He wasn't eating/drinking very much and suffered with chronic diarrhoea. We took him to South Wales Vets on 22nd August as his eyes had sunken and we thought he was severely dehydrated. I won't mention the vets name on here but she weighed him gave him a check over. And asked us if we would like to do full bloodwork to check for everything. And of course we said yes. She took him in the back room and came back shortly after to say he was to dehydrated to take bloods. However, all we was offered was out of hours or oralade drink and probiotics and to monitor him til the next day when we could bring him back in. Why wasn't he put on a drip at the vet there and then??? Anyway, when we got home we decided to call our insurance company and get a video call to check on his symptoms as we still couldn't work out why he wasn't on a drip. Basically we did all the checks over the call and she said yes your right take him to out of hours. Then of course he was put on a drip and had to stay overnight!!! Next day we picked him up and he was given 2mg Mirtzapine to help with his appetite. Which it did really help him over the weekend. On Wednesday 30th, we took him back to South Wales vets as his appetite was going again. A different vet did his full blood work and said we should get the results back in a day or two. 31st August, called up for blood tests not all had come back yet but the vet wanted me to bring him in to be checked over again so went in that day. (Saw the same vet I'd seen on 22nd) she said the bloods may not all come back til Monday and mentioned if we would like to put him on 2mg Mirtzapine again just to cover him for the weekend to build his appetite. We were not given any other option apart from to monitor him and if things worsen to take him to out of hours. Anyway! This is the part I'm so angry about... we gave our cat his '2mg' mirtzapine late afternoon. Within half hour he was trembling rocking his head back and forth crying. Eyes dilated etc so of course we phone out of hours immediately. The vet had confirmed that the vet at South wales prescribed him with 15mg mirtzapine (which is normally used on big dogs and humans) we were so worried we were gonna lose him that day. He had to have charcoal in his stomach to get rid of toxins, on drip again etc and stay over night. Of course we told South wales about it and they owned up to the fact and that there actually wasnt any 2mg mirtzapine in there cupboard and they would pay the out of hours treatment (however that should go without saying) I also sent a written complaint to say we wanted a refund of the service we received from the particular vet we saw on 22nd & 31st August but they declined and said they 'provided us with all options' and as its written in the records they provided all options that's there final say. I did take it to VCMS mediation but South wales vets declined it saying its not an appropriate way forward. Absolute joke! My cat is now with a different vet and it's really opened my eyes how kind, caring & compassionate they are. And so glad I've made the change. I just wanted to make anyone locally aware of the place as I for one would never trust them again.
Negative experience: South Wales Vets are very, very good, they’re thorough, efficient, and the they are really lovely people. However, their fees are phenomenally high. I’ve been twice in three months, both bills were almost £400.00. The fees for blood tests are extremely high, at least £150.00 more than I’ve paid in London. I would STRONGLY advise you to have a thorough discussion on the charges prior to taking your pet to this vet. The bill attached below is for ONE cat with an under active Thyroid. Almost £400.00 !! I don’t think I can afford to go back there, as much as I like this vet.
Negative experience: staff were nice, but overall it feels like it's geared to making money rather than the animals wellbeing
Negative experience: When phoned about my pets consultation I was told the total was £100, I repeated this back to the person and asked what for. I was told 2 items and consultation fee. I agreed to that payment and made it. But... when my dog got home he had 3 items and my banking shows a total of £182.79 was taken from my account by these people. I phone this morning and was called a liar by that same member of staff and refused a senior member of staff. I called back and someone else picked up I was refused a senior member of staff again and then she tried to tell me they don't tell prices over the phone. Huge lie of course because they couldn't get one without telling me, the person that took him in for me had no phone or payment method on him. I've made a formal complaint but doubt they care or will just say I'm lying. I even asked about calls being recorded for training and monitoring purposes to be told they don't do that ... I wonder why ...
Fantastic experience: Every single staff member at South Wales Vets, Malpas Road is approachable, helpful and kind. We have been with them for a while and each time they have been fantastic with our cat. Special mention to Holly, who is just an extraordinary person
Fantastic experience: I just want to thank everyone at Abertillery branch for all your care and ongoing support and kindness to my boy Roger (dog) whilst having 19 teeth extracted.I can't thank you all so much x
Fantastic experience: Lovely friendly staff who show so much affection to the pets
Fantastic experience: Excellent service, very welcoming n friendly staff. Very clean practice. Won't go anywhere else.
Fantastic experience: Very friendly Very knowledgeable Great with our dog Would highly recommend
Positive experience: They were very compassionate with me and my little Max when I had to have him put to sleep. I can't fault their professionable approach when telling me I was doing the right thing for my little boy thank you to the staff that helped us both through the most traumatic time in my life xx
Fantastic experience: Very professional service. Callum seems to be able to calm the pets very well
Negative experience: DO NOT buy any meds here they charge 10x the market value! I visited the Newport branch and I was told that I need to buy medication for my dog on the spot as getting a prescription would cost about the same and then was charged 10x the market value for the antibiotics. Since I was presented with a chip and pin device a few seconds after the sum total was revealed, there was no time to even think about why the cost is so high. When I got back home and checked the real price of said medication, I realised I was charged 10 times the market value and when I called in to request a return, I was told there is no way I can return the meds - that is the best example of modern extortionate businesses practices that obuse people's emotional state fearing for their pet's wellbeing to charge people criminal prices and get away with it by hiding behind a consumers act exemption for medication products that cannot be returned.
Negative experience: These are the most money hungry vets I've ever come across . They don't care about the animals at all !!! Refusing to give me the medication my animal needs unless I come in for another £400 Appointment. The most uncaring unfriendly and money hungry vets I've ever known. STAY CLEAR AND GO TO FIELD'S.
Positive experience: No nody had no time 2talk 2u you just sat @ waited 2be seen
Fantastic experience: Friendly and always happy to help. A great veterinary experience
Fantastic experience: Lovely staff. We were in and out quickly with our cat, and the vet was lovely and helpful.
Fantastic experience: Always polite and friendly staff. Great level of hygiene floor mopped within less than 2mins after a dog peed on the floor due to being nervous. I have been to all 4 of their Practices and can safely say each 1 is equally respectful and welcoming. Could not recommend these enough to be honest.
Fantastic experience: Always a friendly welcome from the staff. Treatment and medication explained clearly.
Fantastic experience: Efficient service, friendly and knowledgeable staff exactly what I want from a veterinary surgery.
Fantastic experience: I took my two cats to the Malpas branch and had Kristina as our vet ,She was amazing, such a natural with the animals.
Negative experience: Been coming to this vets for a few years with both animals and staff have always been amazing but today's experience was awful... very rude and cold eastern European lady vet who saw my dog .... not a care for the animal and only interested in the money!!!! Even saying to me "what are you looking at" when all i was looking for was tissue to wipe his eyes!!!! Disgusting! Hopefully will get help for him elsewhere!!!!!
Fantastic experience: This a lovely veterinary practice. The staff are all so caring and make each pet feel comfortable and relaxed before they are examined. This makes me less anxious when visiting and makes it a pleasurable visit for all concerned. They listen to what you have to say, advice you but are not forceful when recommending treatments. This is really reassuring as my dogs are getting on for 10 and 12 years old. I've had a number of different vets over the years but the staff here are the best. It is the only practice I've been too where my dogs do not start shaking when they see the building. Thanks
Negative experience: Terrible veterinary. If your pet ever get really ill, don't trust this company to look after them. I'm sure this company loves cash not animals. I woke up and my dog was leaking blood all over the house, we bought her to this company, and fair play they did see her pretty quick. The vet checked her over and said she didn't have a fever, and the bleeding had stopped, but she would like to do ultrasound just to be sure, but it was going to cost £350, or a lot more if she needed surgery, maybe even over £1000. Or they said they would give her two sets of tablets, one for pain and the other to help if she was constipated which would cost £102. So we bought her home and she leaked blood everywhere, so straight away i rand PDSA and they checked her. Straight away the said she had a really high temperature, which south wales vets said she never, then the checked her over and found out she had a severe infection, or possibly worst. PDSA did ultrasound and blood test and gave us tablets to help with the swelling on her bladder. They also told us that the tablets south wales vets gave us were useless for the illness she has. PDSA did all this for £82 because I now know that the PDSA actually love animals more than they love the profit. They also said If she needs surgery it would cost £350 but we could pay in installments if needed. So I would advise everyone who loves their pets to not bother with this company, because they will only care about your pet if they know you have a lot of money.
Negative experience: Absolutely appalling experience with the Eastern European lady vet. Not a care for the dog. She was cold and only interested in the money. We then went to another vet in town and had such a better polar experience.
Positive experience: Just took the dogs for their boosters, the 1 dogs got free boosters for life as we were one of the first to use the vets when it opened and that was the offer.
Fantastic experience: A good fully professional practice that is well staffed and is obviously working hard to meet the needs of pet owners in this community.
Positive experience: Friendly staff, very helpful. Only went for annual boosters for my dog.
Fantastic experience: All staff members very helpful and cheerful. The vet I saw was efficient and managed my little dog, who is very anxious when visiting the vet, with great care. He answered all of my questions and I left feeling that my dog had been well catered for. Excellent service!!!
Fantastic experience: I would like to thank these for their excellent dedication to animals whether cats dogs rabbits etc.. but most of all their compassion & devoted care to my laye jack Russell lilly.
Fantastic experience: Thanks once again to the amazing staff here at South Wales vets Newport, best experience I have ever had with their level of care and knowledge! The team is amazing! Will not go anywhere else. Thanks Liam (owner) Luna&Rayne
Fantastic experience: Changed to Budget Vets as my girlie Lola was not improving at previous vets practice. She was continuously biting herself and losing fur. She had large bald patches on neck, legs and back and was often scratching until she drew blood. At Budget Vets she was put on course of tablets which started to help almost straight away. Within few months her fur started to grow back and she stopped biting herself. Her fur is practically all back now, even though she had grey curly fur and it's growing back straight and black lol. She is so much better and happier now thanks to vet who got her sorted. Linda Holder
