Fantastic experience: Wow! These guys are amazing.. Brought a fledgling here early hours of the morning as I was unsure if it was injured. They checked it over (veterinary assistant Leena and a Spanish vet) told me it was a house martin that had chosen to fly the nest and because of the storm we were having, was unable to fly safely. Leena told me how to care for 'Martin' overnight and how to safely let him go in the morning. They even thanked us for taking him in to be checked over ♥️ What a lovely practice with lovely staff! Couldn't thank them enough! Martin also sends his love

Fantastic experience: Visited the emergency vet clinic and they were very quick to triage and treat my cat.

Negative experience: Unfortunately, this veterinary practice seems far more focused on taking your money than providing proper care or decent customer service. Their prices are absolutely extortionate, and for what they charge, you’d expect at least a professional and respectful experience — but that couldn’t be further from the truth. I have a 5-year-old American Bully XL, and since the ban came into effect, most vets I’ve encountered here seem terrified to even go near him — despite him always being calm and muzzled. They require a health check every six months, which costs over £70, yet the appointment lasts less than 10 minutes and is nowhere near thorough. On top of that, they charge an additional £35 just to write a prescription. The vets seem extremely timid and clearly uncomfortable around larger dogs. It feels like they’re only equipped — or willing — to deal with small breeds and cats. When I had to visit their Risca branch, it was even worse. The staff fawned over a small dog in reception while giving my dog dirty looks, despite him showing absolutely no aggression. To make matters worse, they got two prescriptions wrong — incorrect tablets and the wrong ear treatment. This isn’t just bad service; it’s dangerous. Their pricing is outrageous. Tablets that cost £1.50 online are sold for £10 each here. Antibacterial wipes are £6 online but £25 in the practice. It’s clear they are prioritising profit over animal care. If you have a large breed dog — or value competent and respectful service — I would strongly recommend avoiding this practice. They are not equipped to handle larger breeds and their pricing model feels borderline exploitative.

Fantastic experience: Great vet. Very caring and reasonably priced.

Positive experience: Cat seen by a male but I'd asked for a female. I Said does the cat have a temp - response - no - but no thermometer reading taken. Told cat had heart murmer, but then checked and said mistaken due to cat panting. Base of tail not checked and dandruff remains, nor discussed. Tartar observed on back molar, a little gum redness over front tooth. Cost of consultation £65 for appx 15 mins. Print out costs given on request. £550 Scale and Polish Inc blood profile but cat only 4 to 5. X ray £203 Extraction £250 to £450 Est £1453 No payment options given. How many creatures end up suffering I wonder due to such potential costs. Government needs to regulate and vets need to be transparent on their websites re costs.

Fantastic experience: Very clean and hygienic place very welcoming

Fantastic experience: I’ve used this practice before for emergency out of hours treatment and they have always been wonderful. Two years ago they saved my cats life and I’m forever grateful to them. Two days ago I had to rush my boy back in at night there and sadly he didn’t make it. My partner and I were deeply traumatised but the staff were all brilliant, kind, compassionate and caring. I couldn’t have asked for better people around me during this very difficult time. From the receptionist to the assistant vet nurses and special mention to head vet Jon, thank you sincerely for making one of life’s difficult moments easier to bear because of your care and thoughtfulness. Thank you to nurse Liane for taking paw prints and fur of my boy so I can remember him. Please continue your exceptional care and genuine love of animals so other pet parents in similar circumstances also feel so cared for.

Positive experience: We had to use Alphavet out of hours for an emergency visit for our Dachshund, Floki. He was well looked after, but I feel that the resulting bill was extortionate at £414. Thank goodness for pet insurance! For example, a prescription of 5 paracetamol and codeine tablets which we didn't use cost £28!

Fantastic experience: In general I’m not a fan of vets (no offence) but after using other vets that seem to make money off pushing treatments, I find the vets here, notably Pheobe, only do what is necessary and seem to really care about animals.

Fantastic experience: I had to take my Boy Duke here as an emergency on the 15th February, I knew he wasn't in a good place, I had to make the very hard decision to have him PTS. But I would like to say all the staff were great and all very professional I can honestly say I am not impressed with the vets I have dealt with in the past but found the vet and staff very honest and caring at Alphavet centre the care they gave my boy I will never forget , just like to say thank you all you do a tremendous job. I know some people will say about money but I left there feeling that it wasn't just a job but these people really care about the animals they treat thank you all for making a very sad and hard day easier. Even when I picked Duke ashes up the staff was Brilliant and caring Thank you ❤️

Positive experience: Always a warm welcome and a professional attitude when dealing with any pet, no matter whether the visit is routine or an emergency. Having been in the emergency situation 2 years ago I can honestly say everyone at Alphavet did everything humanly possible to save my Boy. Thanks again to you all especially Dr Dana and her able assistant Dr Ellie for going above and beyond on that very sad weekend. Xx

Fantastic experience: Always great service.

Negative experience: This practice is money orientated rather client and pet focused. Awful experience with this practice in the summer who viewed me as a cash cow rather than doing what was right for my dog (it was implied that I did not understand if my dog was in pain and I didn't know what was best for him-I was offered no other treatment option than the 3k+ removal of an eye in a 13 year old pug) The eye is now fine. Today, I was to be charged again for yet another review for routine meds and flea treatment despite being seen very recently. The senior management of this practice appears to only care about her profit and loss sheets. This is no longer the lovely and caring practice I joined 9 years ago who put the pet first. AVOID.

Negative experience: Alphavets was the only emergency vet available on a Saturday. I was pre-warmed emergency consultation fee without any treatment would be £288. I stated my disapproval as I knew my cat only needed antibiotics for a wound. I had approx. 10 min. Consultation with a vet who prescribed antibiotics and metacam for a further £100. Total £388 . The cost in my opinion is unfair and disproportionate. My cats wound has healed well but not impressed by price. No wonder there are multiple signs warning people not to verbally abuse staff and little wonder people are abandoning pets when vets charge prices like this. I know there is help offered from pdsa for low benefits, alphavets told me, they also told me about payment plans and "would I like to phone a relative,?"; all this information just adds to the frustration of having an ill pet who needs urgent meds.i do hope alphabets will rethink their price strategy. :(

Fantastic experience: Both the visit I made to discuss joining, to our puppy's first check up and first vaccination, Langstone Alphavets were excellent. The emergency staff, reception and vet were all so very welcoming and friendly which is just what you need for you and your fur babies.

Positive experience: The receptionist was on the phone, I get that she was busy, but some sort of acknowledgment would of been nice, she was still on the phone 4/5 mins later, If I'd of known she was going to be so long id of sat down n waited as I have alot of health issues, then another member of staff came over & waiting 4 her to get off the phone, she asked the person she was talking to hold for a moment & regardless of me still being stood there, the receptionist blanked me & had a 2/3 minuite chat with the other member of staff, then carried on talking on the phone, purposely not even making eye contact, at this point I just said, "Il sit down n wait" as soon as my bum hit the chair she called me back over, didn't even stand up to look over the desk, just shouted accross the room, "how can I help?" No appology or anything, I felt like I was just an inconvenience to her, worst thing us that I was the only person there (except the staff member that came out)

Positive experience: They help my dog after being attacked in the park. However sadly price are over the roof , was lucky I was able to pay the bill, but feeling sorry for those pet owner that need attention out of hour and unable to pay the £££ prices

Negative experience: Not impressed. Whenever I have dealings with this veterinary practice I'm always disappointed. Long wait for anyone to answer the phone (10 minutes or more). Long wait at reception (10 minutes or more) for anything from checking pets in for an appointment to collecting flee and worm treatment. Text to say flee and worm treatment available for collection then when you get there told its out of stock. Long wait when collecting flee and worm treatment as well as medications. Went today to collect flee and worm and the nurse decided to have a little social chat with a colleague making me wait longer. Long wait for any type of appointment whether routine or emergency. Routine appointments are a minimum of 3 weeks wait. Never had these issues at my previous practice.

Fantastic experience: Parking was good, with good access. One of the nurses came out to meet us and took the cat straight away to the consultation room. They were very professional and sympathetic in the very difficult situation,

Fantastic experience: I recently moved to Alpha vets with Mama cat and her boys, it was an excellent move. Charlie was a poorly boy when I took him in to Alpha vets langstone. The reception girls and vets were exceptional, nothing was too much trouble. The vet explained everything that they would do & cost. Charlie was a inpatient for a couple of days, the staff were lovely with him , gave him cwtch's, kept me updated and when I went to take him home I had the old talkative Charlie back. Thank you. Fantastic experience: Best vets in the local area. Keep up the fantastic work. 2 years on, the lack of compassion is noticeable. The level of care is not what it once was. The loss of 4 amazing vets is a real concern. Knowing that Alphavet, Sunmerhill, and fields are all owned by IVC evidensia means they have the monopoly in the area, pushing small independent vets out. Go independent they're much cheaper also..

It was a restart to my dogs vaccination programme, even though I was anxious about taking them I felt so at ease. Our vet fiona was wonderful. Would highly recommend to anybody looking for a vets.

Positive experience: I have previously visited this vets on 4 occasions, out of hours, the service we received was outstanding when our first beautiful cat Ozzie was put to sleep, and when we came to collect his ashes, outstanding service. The 3rd visit again out of hours when our cat Tonto passed away, the service we received was respectful. When we came to collect Tontos' ashes during the vets actual opening hours, we were ignored by everyone in the vets. We stood in front of the reception desk. The lady ignored us on the reception for 20 minutes, I then spoke to her to ask her if anyone could help as we had come to collect our cats ashes, she retorted I work for alpha vets, I don't deal with that! I was shocked by her attitude. This is a very emotional time for anyone who has lost a pet! Then another lady said, "Oh, I'll get that for you," and came back and just handed a box with Tontos' ashes in, didn't even say I'm so sorry for your loss. The out of hours team is amazing.

Fantastic experience: I was referred here from my vets due to my cat needing surgery. I cannot fault the team. Russell is a brilliant surgeon and all the other vets and nurses have been brilliant. I ended up having to go back several times due to my cat not leaving her stitches alone and the staff have been nothing but accommodating and friendly each visit. I fully trusted my cat with them. I'm even considering changing from my normal vets to here. My only concern is the very small waiting room and how I can be sat right next to loud, barking dogs which my cats don't like.

Fantastic experience: I can’t explain how incredible the staff are here. We took our beautiful old boy here last minute on a Saturday, unfortunately knowing what the outcome was going to be. The staff were so sensitive about the situation and his vet Dana was just incredible. So compassionate and cwtched him in with us until he had passed. I am so grateful for everyone here, the receptionist I believe her name was Maggie was also so beyond lovely we called so many times in the morning just in a complete mess. You guys made a horrible experience a little easier on us. Thank you for everything x

Negative experience: My 12 year old found a kitten (practically newborn, cord still attached)rushed it to this surgery and put in writing that if the kitten survived we wanted to adopt it, rang up the next day to check on the kitten to be told in a roundabout way that one of their nurses is keeping it. My daughter is devastated, Email was ignored

Negative experience: After being a loyal customer for a number of years, recent experiences are making me consider a new practice. I visit monthly for an injection for my Doggo, and each month the price is different, so much so that it was +£23 more expensive than my last visit. Staff at the counter insisted it was right, and I had to prove what I paid last time with the transaction for my bank before they even looked at it. They blamed their system for not allocating the correct discount! If you do visit or are an existing customer reading this, be sure to ask them for a cost breakdown as from my experience prices tend to get made up!

Fantastic experience: I have been using the Langstone Alphavets practice since it opened approximately 7/8 years ago. For all the times my dogs have needed treatment I do feel they’ve received the best possible and most professional care.

Fantastic experience: Rushed my puppy which I only had for 24 hours on Thursday evening ,they were there waiting for to arrive Rushed her straight through .They explained evening from what was wrong ,the best treatment for her and the cost they could not of been more helpful, keeping me informed all night unfortunately my little puppy didn't make and had to be put to sleep .I can't thank them enough for all that they did to try and save her.

Fantastic experience: Our beloved dog collapsed late Friday evening and we rushed to this emergency vets. They were amazing and did everything they could for her and us. Discussed what was happening, cost and were very caring when our dog could unfortunately not be saved due to her heart failing. The team who tried to save her were also affected by the loss and we're very caring and compassionate towards our girl, offering support after we left as well which we appreciated. I would recommend them highly.

Fantastic experience: All of our dogs are registered here as every member of staff helps you as much as possible ... not just with the physical health of your dog but also in terms of empathy for the owner. With one of our dogs being very ill, Alex has been with us every step of the way and Rhiannon has offered constant support to get the right referrals and experts too. We would never go anywhere else.

Fantastic experience: I must first say that I was not with my own pet but I was accompanying a friend whose young Beagle had been knocked down. This vet's is a 24 hour one . The Veterinary staff where very friendly and helpful and I think along with there total professionalism and having humility and understanding of costs and the levels of emotions and stress pet owners are going through. The tried finding possible charities and vets who maybe able to offer help in ways such as payment plan. They could not have done any more than they were doing. I am as was my friend both fully appreciated the extra effort to help.

Fantastic experience: This is an excellent veterinary surgery. We are all so pleased with the way everything was handled when Charlie had to have an operation after jumping and damaging his back leg. Excellent orthopaedic surgeon. Explained everything clearly. You knew what you were getting and how much everything cost. All questions answered. Felt we could trust the doctor and all the staff to look after Charlie. Thank god my sister found them.

Fantastic experience: I came without an appointment initially because I was really worried about my little rat. The staff were so welcoming and helpful, they could clearly see I was really worried so they were able to have us seen within 10-15 minutes. Everyone was lovely, little rat definitely enjoyed their company and sitting on everyone's shoulders. The vet was great, he listened to what I had to say and my concerns before offering a diagnosis and treatment options. We left with antibiotics and a plan in place should he get more poorly or not improve. The price was extremely reasonable, and less than I had expected. Thankyou everyone at alphavet!

Fantastic experience: I had to bring my beagle ella aged 10 years into Newport late last night as she was suffering so extremely badly with pain and panting so hard. The vet that, dealt with us was, absolutely amazing and caring and compassionate and I cannot thank him enough. I think his, name was John, he helped to ease the pain and suffering until my daughter could get to the clinic to say goodbye to our baby girl. the compassion he gave not only to Ella but to me as, an owner I will forever be grateful I would recommend your vetinary practice 100% Christine Edmunds

Fantastic experience: Our puppy was electcuted. From the moment we phoned to say we were on our way they were marvellous.on arrival they immediately took Cwtch and made us feel at ease. Cwtch was one lucky puppy . And sends her ❤️ and a big thank you for looking after her .
