Derby PDSA Pet Hospital: Reviews
Fantastic experience: Thank you for being so professional and empathetic today
Fantastic experience: Turned up with no appointment and was still seen and sorted beautifully, thank you
Positive experience: Very friendly caring staff .
Fantastic experience: Had telephone consultation. Collected meds the next day and my pooch is almost fully recovered, a few weeks on. Great service and staff.
Fantastic experience: My little dog had a growth on her eyelid. I was nervous about dropping her off. No need to worry staff was brilliant from the moment I went in, so I was happy to leave her and the same on collection explained everything they had done and so friendly and polite.
Fantastic experience: Saddest day of my life, saying farewell to my eldest pup, Max, yesterday. Was a horrid situation, but the PDSA staff were very accommodating and kind. They let us take our time and say our farewells without rushing us. I'm not sure I'll ever get over, Max, but im grateful for the PDSA team for helping to calm what was a heartbreaking day. Thank you for helping Max over the years. X
Fantastic experience: kind and friendly staff, was understanding and very helpful on the phone before my appointment. The vets are also lovely.
Fantastic experience: Ansaphone needs changing to calming music please. Hearing a repetitive voice is stressful. Managed to message via FB and got a reply the same day. Super helpful Heather helping to resolve the problem. Thank you
Fantastic experience: Staff was perfect, the only downside is telephone line, not easy to reach directly.
Fantastic experience: Highly recommend can't thank these enough for the help they gave us
Fantastic experience: Had to have my baby girl put to sleep yesterday and I have to say that the staff were absolutely fantastic. From the 1st visit back in May to yesterday they have been the most caring and empathetic and loveliest of people especially Bridget who was with us at the end. My beautiful Frenchie went to sleep in my arms and this wonderful lady made it just that little bit easier if that was possible. Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️
Fantastic experience: Hard times they respectfully and caring Thank you
Fantastic experience: Absolutely fantastic place. Helped me with my St Bernard, unfortunately she crossed over rainbow bridge
Fantastic experience: We was having our 14 year old staffy put down, and they was all caring and helped us along our sad journey also did her footprint as a memory, forever cherished thank you
Negative experience: Vile, they need to offer an ACTUAL person who can answer the phone. Travelled to our appoint, stuck in traffic. Made countless attempts to phone them to say we were running late. Only to be met with an automated phone line saying send a email. Get there only to be told we won’t be seen because we was late. Vile change the phone systems.
Fantastic experience: Took daughters cat for repairs, fully repaired and home the same evening well impressed
Positive experience: Marvelous people, especially when needed
Negative experience: Twice now the PDSA have let me and my family down. First was a year ago when I phoned as my 6 month old puppy had collapsed and was floppy. Insisted I register and have a video consultation with an online vet to see if she needed to be seen (it was obvious that she did). Took 30mins to register and hear back from the online vet only for them to say she needed to be seen immediately. Phoned back on the promise that someone would be "waiting for the phone call so she could be brought in asap" was on hold for 25mins before being cut off. Phoned another vet in desperate need of her being seen, but by the time I got on the phone to them she died in my arms. My little girl was beyond devestated and I was so so angry that PDSA had let us down so badly. Phoned again this evening, with concern for my 5yr old Maltese as she is not herself and shaking a lot yelping when she is picked up. Told by the woman on the phone that i'm no longer registered as they haven't seen my documents since 2017 (balls as I sent them when my puppy was ill last year) so my registration has expired and they are not accepting new registrations so can't see her. I asked if she could be seen under my partner who is also registered with them and they said "well if you split up the dog will be with you so we can't put her under his name". So refused to see my dog, no other vet offers their services (i'm disabled and on universal credit so cannot afford vet prices of £300+, my dog acts as a support dog for my little girl who has autism and helps her a lot) so I have to basically hope that she doesn't get more sick in the night as it will devestate us all if something happens to her, plus add on that I feel extremely guilty that I can't afford £300+ to have her seen by a private vet. PDSA don't care about your pets, they only care about money to line the big bosses' pockets upstairs! 10 years as a registered patient with them doesn't hold much worth either. Totally disgusted. Wouldn't do it if it were a child!
Fantastic experience: I don't usually leave reviews but i felt compelled to write this one. Our beautiful fur baby went for her forever sleep this morning and i am so thankful to the lovely staff including the receptionist who made such a difficult time so much more easier. We are so lucky to have this service available and we honestly cant thank you all enough.
Negative experience: If you want a vets to NOT answer your calls or reply back to your request forms then PDSA is the one for you! LONG wait times, never any appointments.. they never answer your calls but when you go in the receptions are just chit chatting and you can see they have put the landline telephones on mute so they don’t ring! Absolutely joke!
Fantastic experience: Cannot thank the PDSA enough for looking after my cat when he suffered a life threatening injury. Every single staff member is kind and compassionate and you can tell they care deeply about every pet they encounter. I knew my sweet cat was in good hands. They are easy to contact in an emergency and don't hesitate at all to get your pet the help they need. Thank you from the bottom of my heart PDSA.
Fantastic experience: The staff were kinda and caring when my dog took ill.and unfortunately passed away
Fantastic experience: Genuinely caring passionate people from the reception staff the vets and the medication dispensary. Would recommend to everyone
Fantastic experience: I've used the PDSA services in the past when my financial standing was poor, and, I will be forever grateful. I found their compassion and kindness always a staple and the staff, never judging. ⬛️ A heads up for pet owners, and other commentors in the reviews. There are so many pet owners in the reviews that believe the PDSA service is free when in reality the service is paid for via donations from the public and kind volunteers. Other comments regards to owning multiple pets and only being able to receive treatment for one pet, per PDSA policy ( the owner has 3 cats). If you can't afford to financially care for 1 pet why would you consciously own multiple and why would you feel "entitled" to "free" treatment for "all" your pets. The choice to own multiple pets comes with responsibility, those responsibilities go further than feeding twice a day or walking once a day. You are doing a dis-service to the pets and need to ask yourself, am I really rescuing them if I will constantly need financial assistance when things go awry.
Fantastic experience: Thank you PDSA pet Derby. The surgery of our lovely roxy was a success. Roxy is recovering really well after the surgery. Thank you all guys! Friendly and very accommodated staff. The surgery fees was just fair for us without much benefits to showed. Zero fees for only who has benefits like housing benifits and universal credit. We've paid our share of the fees, but still much cheaper if you go for the private vet, unless if you have the money. Thank you again PDSA Derby, for a job well done to all your customers.
Negative experience: Impossible to get hold of can't talk to anyone just repeats the same thing when phoning up
Negative experience: I was disappointed with my appointment, the vet had no people skills & was very rushed & blunt ,I left upset & very confused about my dogs health but felt too intimidated to ask.
Negative experience: Phoned for the out of hours service as I thought my pup had been stung by a wasp, they wanted £302 to book an appointment for her to be checked. Phoned Scarsdale Vets on Pride Park and they helped me over the phone, gave advice, asked loads of questions and did it for free.
Fantastic experience: My dog recieved a Fantastic service at PDSA. All Staff and Vets were friendly, welcoming and professional and id say provided an outstanding service. Thankyou PDSA for looking after me and my dog!
Positive experience: Amazing place for what they do to help people with pets that are less fortunate. Top vets, come across like they actually care. Some reception staff are very rude and dont seem interested or don't go that little extra.
Fantastic experience: They previously saved my Milo's life and when it was time for him to leave me they were so very kind.
Negative experience: My cat was critical and they refused to see her which delayed her being treated due to having to travel to another vets costing me as much as my rent and led to her passing due to delayed treatment, delayed due to no fault of my own!
Negative experience: Don’t get me wrong, they were brilliant with my cat who had to be put to sleep recently due to illness but if you can afford it, please go to an actual private vets. Last year my dog suffered for 3 months, which ended up in her being put down. If only they had’ve stopped sending us away with antibiotics and looked into her issues further, she wouldn’t have suffered brutally and still been alive today. She was only 9 years old, such a nervous little soul and this vets failed me and her, the man who dealt with my dogs case was cold and clearly didn’t care much for animals.. It’s took me over a year to finally come to terms with it, which is why i am writing this now
Positive experience: This was 5 stars but now changed. Waited a week for my dog to be seen. Then it was a nurse who kept going and asking the vet for advise. Asked why I wasn't booked with the vet and told they are busy .
Positive experience: Very good prices. It's just a shame some of the vets are quite dismissive and indifferent. I've had genuine points to make at appointments but they tend to just not hear you out on things.
Fantastic experience: Very knowledgeable rabbit vet, saved our rabbits life when the dummy got some straw stuck in her back tooth and half down her throat leading to a tooth infection. Not many vets good with rabbits but they are here. Receptionist that I spoke to was also absolutely wonderful.
Fantastic experience: Brilliant with my dogs would have been lost without them, thanks PDSA
Fantastic experience: Very friendly staff and look after your pets lovely
Fantastic experience: We took our brand new 8 week old boy, Teddy, to the emergency out of hours vet. Dave the vet looked after him and the lovely nurse, did the triage. The wonderful ladies on the desk were warm and welcoming. Teddy was too young to have an injection and despite our nursing care with the oral hydration, became increasingly poorly overnight. Our boy had to be taken back to the breeder at first light, and as I type, he is with the breeder's vet. We want to thank everyone at Derby PDSA for the kind and gentle attention last night. We just hope our little boy has the strength to pull through, especially as his brother died within 24 hours of having the Lepto4 vax.
Fantastic experience: After years of being ripped off by several vets and over-charged for meds and treatments I was referred to PDSA Derby. I found all the staff to be down to earth and offering honest and practical advice and treatment.
Fantastic experience: We needed a vet urgently this morning for our elderly dog. The staff were warm & inviting, super compassionate and gave us our options. Unfortunately it wasn't a good outcome for our Dukie & he had to be put to rest. His passing was peaceful and the staff were very respectful. Thank you PDSA for seeing him quickly, showing compassion and making him comfortable and giving him a peaceful transition home to heaven.
Fantastic experience: I don’t know what I’d do without these guys; lovely caring staff and when I was absolutely penniless I didn’t have to panic about sky high vet bills. They want what’s best for animals and their humans
Fantastic experience: Excellent staff excellent environment sadly taking dog to be put to sleep but everyone was compassionate caring and made it a little easier well done ✅
Fantastic experience: We had a poorly dog last Sunday evening. The vet Claudia was excellent and all the other staff were friendly and helpful. Everyone put our minds at ease and made us feel confident that our hound was in good hands.
Positive experience: Not too bad if you have 1 pet, if have other pets worth just going to the local vets as it's probably closer unless it's your 1 pet that is on there main policay then not too bad, tried to switch pets and can take up to a year to change the main pet but that doesn't help if your 1 pet that is main is fine nothing wrong then your 2nd 3rd ect... Needs help not that helpful and was more than the vets so for 1 pet it's fine
Fantastic experience: Very friendly and helpful. Our dog had a neuter everything went according to plan:) Thank you
Fantastic experience: Always there to help even if you do the online form. Had to put our Katey to sleep last week after 20 years together. I can't tell you how much I appreciated the quiet room they had where I can sit on a sofa and take my cat out her carrier to snuggle up one last time. Thankyou x
Fantastic experience: The staff are so patient especially when other people are being rude to them, which I've witnessed. Always go the extra mile and the care for animals is immeasurable and I would urge everyone to donate as much as possible.
Fantastic experience: We had to say goodbye to our old girl and the staff are very caring and respectful to you and they have a quiet room that's more like a little sitting room to make things more comfortable in this situation it makes a change from being to clinical
Fantastic experience: We used this practice for an emergency appointment on a Saturday night and found the vet and all staff to be very knowledgeable and extremely helpful and considerate. This 24 hour service I would highly recommended if urgent attention is needed.
Negative experience: Brought my cat in on several occasions back in 2023 because he was rapidly losing weight, over-grooming, vomiting and having diarrhoea everyday. He was obviously severely ill. But my concerns fell upon deaf ears. Was told by nurse Megan Kemp that he was just stressed and that "Cats vomit." During a visit with the same nurse she cut his nails too close to the quick causing him to scream out in pain, she claimed he was "being dramatic." I saw one of the vets here who acknowledged he had a heart murmur but no tests or anything were done, and I was sent home to where I watched him deteriorate. When I bought him back again a month later after he had suddenly developed ascites, and breathing issues I was rudely asked "why didn't I do something about it earlier." I had been working with another vet in the meantime, but because of PDSA's negligence it was too late to save him. These "vets" do not know what they're doing. I am now with an excellent vet, which at the time was something I unfortunately wasn't able to afford to do, if I had taken my cat to them instead he'd probably still be here today. If your pet has a life threatening condition, it's better to take them elsewhere and work out costs at a later date. I'd rather be in debt then ever take another pet here again.
Fantastic experience: Got to say the staff are brilliant but let down by the phone system they have have looked after various off my pets over the years and always looked after them. Ok system is still rubbish kicks you out and tell you to go online that doesn't do anything either just says not recognised your details. Please sort the whole contact system out as animals are suffering due to the new system. As a pet owner just want to able to speak to someone.
Fantastic experience: They know their job and do a marvelous job at that. They've looked after all my cats I've had in some way or another. Cannot fault them. Thank you PDSA!
Fantastic experience: First time using pdsa due to financial circumstances. They treated me fairly and were very welcoming. They made me feel at ease and never as though I was a scrounger for using their services. Finally, and probably more importantly, they treated my cat thoroughly and effectively. They also gave me advice on her condition to help me better manage it in the future and I have the peace of mind in knowing that she is no longer in pain and is behaving like a young cat again.
Fantastic experience: Great, wait times not bad and fast, friendly, and efficient pet emergency services.
Fantastic experience: my sister and I had to take her 16yo pet cat to have hus tooth took out, unfortunately, he had to be put down cos of a tumor that had grown at the back of his jaw and burst his access, he had too much of the poison running round his system. They were very considerate of my sisters feelings and it was all done humanely and painless. we still donate to PDSA for that alone.
Negative experience: Bought my little dog in he stopped eating and drinking ..PDSA did blood tests and an abdominal scan ..said it was probably his teeth .kept sending him home even though he was so sick ! Took a loan out and went private ..the did an abdominal scan he had shadows in his kidneys ( more likely cancer ) fatty masses on his pancreas ..and a blocked colon with poo .PDSA said his scan was fine ??? How could they miss all that ??? 7 days my Hugo suffered back and forth to them !! Hugo died and maybe I could of done more 7 days before ..PDSA should be ashamed of themselves .yes there a charity but do not call your self vets ! You are a bunch of liars !! And do not care properly for animals ..maybe lots of people's pets have died and they didn't have to .you could of saved my dog from alot of suffering if you had done your job properly ..maybe because your not getting paid for being there you don't care ..shame on you call yourself vets !!! Joke
Fantastic experience: Lovely, kind, understanding reception staff. They were thoughtful and polite and very patient with me as I was really upset about my little Jessie. They gave us appointment really quickly and the waiting time was really short. The place was spotless and the vet was really caring and explained everything to me more than once. Nothing was too much trouble for them and I cannot fault them in any way. Thank you PDSA Derby, you are amazing.
Fantastic experience: We had to take a cat to these guys for help this week after a spot of financial difficulty and the detail of care is absolutely 2nd to none, these guys do an amazing job so please make a donation to them after your pet has been seen, without donations this care isn't possible, so so grateful for their help
Fantastic experience: Sadly it wasn’t a good visit as my cat was put to sleep but that aside the staff here are so professional and kind with all the time in the world. Couldn’t fault them at all
Fantastic experience: Absolutely fantastic staff, so welcoming and understanding. we unfortunately had to let one of our beloved dogs pass and they treated him with such love and respect he deserved after 16 years. The staff were so understanding and never rushed us at all. It's always hard loosing a loved pet, but they completely understood what we were going through. They offer such a great out of hours service, I wouldn't hesitate using them at all again.
Negative experience: Went in to collect my cat they said 50 pounds for antibiotics and pain relief went in to see vet and collect cat was given just pain relief which on the internet was 6 pounds asked where my antibiotics was which I paid for they said you didn’t need them told them that at reception they made me pay for both they said it was night rate
Fantastic experience: Took my beautiful Izzy in today (I have only had here 3 week) I have never known such wonderful staff on reception and the lovely vet named Paige was brilliant the pdsa have made my life so much better I can not thank you enough x
Positive experience: As much as I would like to give them a good review, & I know they do there best to help pet owners, unfortunately I can't do that, as my pet needed to be seen by a vet, & they decided that I could treat him at home, I did get in to see a nurse, a week later, which he clean he wound & told me to carry on doing as I had been doing
Positive experience: My dog passed away Thursday They were good on seeing her at 2am but because she wasn't registered they asked loads of questions which I can't help thinking if they didn't she could have been seen and saved. The questions could have been asked when I was there.
Fantastic experience: my puppy had an emergency spay. they have done an amazing job and she is healing nicley. lovely friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Fantastic place for your beloved pets. Knowlegable staff but also compassionate and understanding. Thanks guys!
Fantastic experience: Fantastic, caring and respectful. I've used these twice in the last year. Once at a very sad time and once for a normal vaccination and both times I couldn't have asked for a better, more caring service.
Fantastic experience: Rang up regarding my cat at about 11pm. Got me booked in immediately and told me to head over. Every single member of staff were lovely and clearly care about the animals so much. Did a great job of settling my nerves and were really informative. Thank you to everyone at PDSA from me and Gizmo
Fantastic experience: Had to recently take one of my pets here and the vet was lovely. Took the time to listen to us and did the relevant tests. Can't fault the service at all. 5* all around.
Positive experience: Tried to ring with an emergency last week was on hold for 28 mins then got cut off phoned back and still on hold another 15 mins walked out the door with my pet in hand to rush him there when they finally answered and agreed he should be seen, unfortunately he died an hour later not sure if getting him there earlier would have saved him.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely 100% score. They do a great job from reception to nurses, vets, and pharmacy staff. Thank you so much for taking care of our cat Bolt. Bless you all.
Positive experience: Very caring staff, and they gave great advice once we got to see them, and we have a treatment plan moving forward. It's a nightmare having to book everything online and not being able to phone and talk to someone. I had to do this process for an older family member, and I found it difficult. It's so frustrating that we were at the vets and needed another appointment but couldn't book one in person, we had to leave and go online and am now waiting for another call back to book one, takes so long to get to see the vet.
Fantastic experience: I cannot speak highly enough of the staff here at the Derby centre. They took excellent care of my girl (dog), and tried to vet to the bottom of what was wrong with her. They gave brilliant advice and really took the time to explain next steps to me. They dud everything possible to make her comfortable whilst she was there and I couldn't have asked for more.
Fantastic experience: Had to take my bird in this morning. I didn't think he was going to make it. After a couple of hours of treatment, he came out like a new bird. Excellent service
Fantastic experience: We're really helpful to me when I had to put my rabbit down. Services are stretched as expected but they were very compassionate.
Negative experience: Said my dog wouldn’t survive surgery as she’s too old and needs to be put down immediately, however she was only 8 years old and made it perfectly fine through surgery with private vet! Don’t recommend this place if you actually want help for your pet
Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing vet's. The staff here are all so great and lovely. Every vet has been so helpful and amazing with all of our dogs, and the reception staff are amazing with us. Always so helpful. You know they are always giving their all, when you're asking for help or information. Sadly one of our dogs passed away last year but everyone here was unbelievably so loving and understanding and really helped. It was the only vet's he didn't get scared of, that says a lot about them from my dogs point of view. Thank you, everybody, at PDSA.
Fantastic experience: They have been great over the years! I've used them since my dog was 2 ,they have saved his life before!!
Negative experience: neglecting uncaring behavior by vets and reception, i have called multiple times for my extremely unwell dog offered probiotics and oralade, called back sunday when my dog COULDNT WALK EAT OR DRINK, was told was not emergency, which it CLEARLY WAS, vet too bone idle and not bothered ( dr melanie) the poxy video messages i had with her advised me to feed a dog who refused to eat or stand? tried to call and enquire today for a “non emergency appointment” never heard anything back. my dog has been to another vet who’s diagnosed him with kidney failure amongst other things which has resulted in me putting him to sleep. i hope you all take a moment to know how the neglect you displayed has affected my family, myself and my life. and can i just state that if you are not passionate about saving animals, get another job.
Fantastic experience: The staff are so helpful and thoughtful. Looked after the feral we bought in . I recommend their services and thank you all very much.
Fantastic experience: All the staff were amazing and really friendly and explained everything clearly. Now got a dog who's feeling sorry for himself but well thanks to their care!
Negative experience: horrible service, asked for help as me dog is in troubles and lia client servise manger at derby pick up phone she was talking the whole time in laud voice with me offered zero help unless iam on benefits. me explaining her that i can register and proof today that iam in extra tiny on budged and cant spend much money on dog treatment she was not interested more like talk in rude way. i will never ever again donate to pdsa and i advice people to not donate to those frauds and rude people, they will leave your dog to death unless they get paid
Fantastic experience: Can't thank the team enough, our little pup of 10 weeks broke her leg, they operated today and have managed to save her leg from amputation, honestly the work you people do is priceless. We made a generous donation but in all honesty it dosnt compare to what it would cost privately Thankyou so much We will be making a monthly donations Thankyou thankyou !!
Fantastic experience: The staff that work here are incredible. They are all so kind, supportive and knowledgeable. My dog was really poorly, we were devastated. Rang up as an emergency on Saturday, within an hour we were there and our dog Pip was being treated. We are so thankful for their love and care..We are so thankful for this service, what they do is amazing. Thankyou ❤️
Fantastic experience: Had a concern with my dog, phoned at 10.30 at night and they were so helpful. Gave advise over the phone even though I'm not registered with them. Couldn't have been more thankful.
Negative experience: Worse place ever!! Vets said my dog had mites so given my dog steroids which we didn't know made it worse.. we went to white Cross vets in the end and that's how we got told! Clearly no care for the animals at all!! Watch what vets you go to!!! Making my dog worse
Fantastic experience: Have the wonderful pleasure of speaking with two fantastic ladies today. Megan and Leah are an absolute credit to this organisation, extremely helpful, kind, understanding and informative. Even went above and beyond. I couldn't have asked for two better people to help me with my issue today. Thank you
Fantastic experience: Our cat recently had to have an emergency stay at PDSA due to chewing part of a lily. The hospital were amazing with simba and got us in within the same 30 minutes and we were seen straight away. Thank you PDSA. Couldn’t recommend enough
Fantastic experience: We recently had to make the heartbreaking decision to put our young cat to sleep due to an untreatable disease. The whole team from those at reception to both vets we spoke to were truly amazing. They took us to a private room where we got to spend time with her. When the time came, they treated her with dignity and us with kindness and compassion . They made it a slightly more bearable experience. Nothing was too much. We weren't rushed , we had all the time we needed to say our goodbye.
Fantastic experience: Staff very helpful, may not be the outcome we hope, that wouldn't be down to the staff though, but the pet is in good hands
Fantastic experience: Rang Emergency Contact number, Spoke to a fantastic lady, As my cat was struggling to breath, Told me to bring her straightaway, But sadly on the way there my cat sadly passed away, Just want to say Thankyou for your kind words of loosing my cat, You guys do an amazing job, Thankyou Again,
Positive experience: Took our dog here for some dental work. The work they carried out was exemplary although they took quite a while to let us know it went well. I understand they're very busy and such with incoming emergencies but even an automated txt or email would have put our minds at ease. Ended up having to chase. Other than that the staff were very friendly and helpful and this is an invaluable service to have for those who can't afford the vet prices.
Positive experience: PDSA has helped tremendously with my kitten who has been so poorly. They arnt always as punctual with calling back or updating you on your pet when they are admitted and unless you go through the emergency line you can only contact via their website or email them but they work hard and they do everything they can within the limited sources they have to help sick pets. My girl is far from healthy but she's so much better than she was when she first went in. Medication given at a fraction of the cost of normal vets, donations accepted instead of normal consultation fees. My girl was in Ambivet for 24 hours previously and it cost £1019 on the insurance. They maxed out the insurance policy in 24 hours. So off to PDSA and so far she's spent 5 nights been seen at 2 appointments and been given 3 lots of medications, ultrasounds, blood tests stool samples oxygen treatment all for little under £100 in donations! The vets and nurses have been wonderful with my kitten who is needy and just wants to be held constantly. They've given her hugs and kisses and massages. Treated her so well. Can't thank them enough.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing saved my cat and her kittens couldn't find anything wrong with them. They were very nice helpful and caring. Extremely busy but a great service. Many thanks to the team
Positive experience: Waiting time information! Amazing service, but sadly very understaffed. I brought my little jackchi in for emergency dental surgery under general anaesthetic, and we were treated really well. Unfortunately there was quite a lack of communication due to lack of staff. We brought her in at 9am, and still hadn't heard how her surgery went by 5pm. I tried calling but the phone line just disconnected. I was beside myself with worry. I sent an email a little after 5pm, which thankfully they responded to to let me know she was in recovery and doing fine, and a vet would call me shortly. A vet called at 7pm to give me the details of her surgery and recovery. She was still on a drip, but we could collect her at 8. Everything was explained really well. We went to collect her at 8pm and everything went smoothly. I'd like to reassure pet owners that it's normal to not hear from the vets for a considerable amount of time if their animals are having surgery, and that it doesn't mean anything bad has happened. Its so sad that this place is struggling so much due to lack of staff. They're only able to see emergency cases right now which is understandable, however I really feel reception could send off short text messages or emails when pets are out of surgery to set their owners minds at ease.
Fantastic experience: The Staff here were amazing. I want to thank each andeveryone of them for looking after Luna for 20 days after a so called friend that was looking after her for me abandoned her there. They quality of care and affection for Luna was second to none and I will be forever grateful for this xx THIS IS NOT A CRITISISM OF THE ACTUAL STAFF JUST THE POLICIES OF PDSA. My only criticism is that maybe it should be policy that whatever the reason an animal is bought to the PDSA the Staff should scan them so that they can check the Owners details. If this had been done I would have been notified sooner and Luna could have come home sooner.
Fantastic experience: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I want to commend PDSA for their extraordinary care during a difficult time, especially considering the neglect my pet, Bella, faced from another facility. Bella's breathing issues were consistently dismissed elsewhere, and communication about her diagnosis and care plan left much to be desired. This experience left us deeply concerned. In our moment of distress, we turned to PDSA, and their considerate care was a beacon of hope. Despite Bella's passing, PDSA's team showed unwavering compassion and professionalism. They offered solace and support during this challenging time and ensured that Bella received the best possible care. While Bella is no longer with us, I'm profoundly grateful for the exceptional care provided by PDSA, which stood in stark contrast to the neglect we experienced elsewhere. Their commitment to animals and their owners shines brightly. I encourage others to choose PDSA for their outstanding service, especially during those critical moments when our furry companions need care and compassion the most.
Fantastic experience: First time I had to used the PDSA and it was amazing service from start to finish. My dog ripped his claw off and I rang up, got advice after sending pics and a video. The receptionist was lovely . Then was made an appointment first thing the next day. My dog was seen and treatment explained. Due to the nail hanging on, he had to be sedated and the care he received was great, always checked by the nurses and information shared with me and the vet explained the after care and even stroked him goodbye, in there just over two hours. Overall an amazing service.
Fantastic experience: EDITED - Upgraded to 5 stars. Did a bit more research into the struggles here! They need more funding. They are going above and beyone with little or no support. I'm ashamed I was so harsh in the beginning Edited! Have upgraded to 4 stars. There are lots of great things about Derby PDSA. Clean, friendly and great with the animals. Prices are great and they rely heavily on donations that they don't get anywhere near enough of. Lots of services and help are offered but aren't available due to demand and a backlog. It's hard to actually get an appointment, this is mainly due to clients claiming their pet needing an emergency appointment when there isn't a need for it.
