Medivet Derby Osmaston Rd - Saint Leonard Veterinary Centre

Fantastic experience: I recently took my cats to this veterinary clinic and I couldn’t be happier with the care they received. The staff and veterinarians are incredibly kind and attentive, and Melody was simply wonderful with our cat who had a nail issue. She made both our cat and us feel completely at ease. I highly recommend this clinic to anyone looking for compassionate and professional care for their pets!

Negative experience: I had a very disappointing experience today. I booked an appointment a few days in advance for my cat’s rabies vaccination and did not receive any reminder message like they always do, so I arrived at the time I had noted when booking. When I got there, the premises were under renovation — something that was never mentioned during the phone call. I was told to call upon arrival and then wait in a separate room with loud construction noise, which was already stressful for my cat. After waiting, I was informed that I was “an hour late” and that they would not honour the appointment. Even if that were the case, I have always arrived early for previous appointments and have often been kept waiting an extra 15–20 minutes, as many customers are. With no reminder or clear communication provided, there was no way for me to verify the time. I was then asked to leave and ended up standing outside in heavy rain with my cat while waiting for transport home. There were several other people also waiting outside because we don’t all have the privilege of sitting in a car during situations like this. This was a stressful and upsetting experience, and it felt like there was very little consideration for either the pets or their owners. Clear communication, basic organisation, and a bit of empathy would have made a huge difference. I hope in the future customers are given proper notice about disruptions and treated with more understanding. Complete waste of money and time, and my cat ended up being wet from the rain even if I tried to cover her as much as I could.

Negative experience: Was given a price over the phone for a treatment, my dog had that treatment but I was charged significantly more. I queried this but was basically told I had to pay the higher price even though my dog had had exactly what I asked for over the phone. This is also not the first time similar things have happened here and I will actively look for a different vet.

Fantastic experience: Always very responsive, professional and kind to me and the dog!

Negative experience: Was amazing when Abdul had the practice now prices are over priced how can it go from last year paying 850 for eye surgery now ringing with the same issue my other dog going up to 2300! I get inflation but thats just pure greed.

Negative experience: This vet's practice is a money making place now, since being taken over. They keep you waiting at least 15 mins past your appointment time, would be different if the boot was on the other foot! Staff members look miserable too.

Fantastic experience: We chose St Leonard's Vets on Uttoxiter Road Derby (now MEDIVET ) for our new, 11yrs old rescue dog Connie ,as they looked after the health of our cat Bago (and in the Cattery) for a few years before she went to the great Cattery in the sky, at the great age of 19 and a half. They are brilliant and SOOO caring. Connie looks forward to her appointments and actually pulls us into the premises. Also, we know Connie (now a sprightly 13yr old) is treated with care and looked after really well at all her regular appointments. Thankyou Medivet for being SOOO caring ❤️

Fantastic experience: I am a new pet owner and these guys were very helpfull and very patient with somone who has a million and one questions.

Negative experience: Following an awful ordeal with "vet" Miklos unconcernedly leaving my dog in a severe state of shock after what should have been a simple blood test, denying any responsibility, laughing at me, rolling his eyes, then walking away muttering under his breath without any care for my dogs state. Leaving me to bring my dog round from severe trauma alone in the reception area in front of other customers. This man has no regard for animal welfare and should not be trusted to work with animals. It’s taken my dog 3 days to recover from whatever happened to him in that room. No apology given or any sign of care or concern for my pet. Rude, uncaring and extremely unprofessional to my dog and to me as a paying customer. My dog walked into this vets with a stomach bug, and left the room after a blood test eyes wide and unresponsive, mouth fixed open and a white tongue hanging out of his mouth. He had also urinated on himself and wasn't moving or able to walk. It was left to me to help my dog come to after breathing into his nose vigorously rubbing his chest and throat with no help from MIKLOS. When I politely requested another vet to assess my dog his response was "I am the vet", and only agreed on a second opinion when another customer interveened. We will not be returning to this vets and I advise checking who your appointment is booked with before leaving your animals in their care.

Fantastic experience: It's the best vets by far in Derby area. I have been going there for years with my cats. They are very efficient, caring and friendly. They have the personal touch and know their clients and pets. Their Cattery is second to none. My beautiful boy Leo is very relaxed and happy when he is 'on holiday' there and loves the cuddles he gets from the ladies who care for him. What more can I say. Five stars all round!

Fantastic experience: Took my dog for her booster jab Friday 17/10, the nurse did the booster jab this time and she was fab with my pooch. Was defiantly the best jab experience we have had. The nurse was absolutely lovely and my dog Toffee so thank you

Fantastic experience: Just a routine vaccination appt but my elderly cat was thoroughly examined and given a clean bill of health. All the right questions were asked in a friendly and interested way, and my cat was handled with care and understanding.

Fantastic experience: Professional & friendly service. Close examination of my poorly cat with advice for current & future treatment. He's now very much on the mend. Booking an appointment over the phone was straightforward, and they were understanding when I had to cancel and rebook at short notice. Reasonable price for treatment & medication too. Recommended.

Negative experience: Avoid this vet practice. We registered here with our puppy, the vets themselves didn't care about making our puppy comfortable throughout any of his visits. Fast forward to when he was 8-9 months old and struggling with allergies (we didn't know this at the time), we approached them looking for guidance on how to make him more comfortable. The vets advised for an injection to prevent itching. Without any further discussion on treatment steps or administration of the treatment, the vets express our dogs anal glands and tried to do the injection. Our dog was strongly distressed with this interaction so instead of stopping and discussing with us, the vet continued with a muzzle and pinned him down with co-workers to deliver the injection. Following this visit our dog has become terrified of any handling. On top of this St Leonards marked his file as dangerous, making every following St Leonards vet apprehensive of treating him which worsened our dog's fear from continued bad interactions. Now almost 2 years later our dog is persistently terrifed of being handled as well as the vet and any needle-work. This is something we may have to manage for the rest of his life.

Positive experience: People are very nice there. However I always have to wait at least 15min pass my schedule appointment time. There are always delays. The other thing is a nails cutting. It has been trimmer way too short and my dog was bleeding and suffering from it

Fantastic experience: Honestly, this is the best vet I’ve ever been to. My cat, Harley is 15 and was recently diagnosed with type II diabetes. He’s now got an horrible infection as a complication. The receptionists are amazing, are always sympathetic, polite and get you in quickly. The nurses and vets really obviously care about your pet; from the student nurse teaching me how to do his blood sugar correctly, to the vets going above and beyond pulling up research papers into feline DM-II - everyone really cares. They price fairly and don’t try and rip you off like the other vet practices I’ve been to in the past. I have actually moved house but still travel take my cat here, even though there’s a closer branch and they’re even making me consider a change of career! I can’t recommend them enough. Fantastic experience: Amazing vets. We are registered elsewhere but they couldn’t see my dog for over a week. So glad we used Medivet-the two vets we saw were amazing and all staff showed real care and compassion for the animals. The time taken to throughly explain and check I understood my dogs care and recommendations for supplements and future care was fantastic. The real thing for me was after my dogs procedure I received a phone call the next day to check on her well being which I thought was fabulous. Will be using Medivet from now on.

Fantastic experience: I booked an appointment for my dog. Unfortunately, I was running a little bit late Helena was very professional, agreed that Zara's left eye was rather cloudy. She gave her a thorough examination, administered the booster injections and advised us when to return. Zara loves going there and all the staff are really friendly.

Fantastic experience: I had a very scary experience yesterday, having to rush my cat to the vets. Our vet, Helen, was very patient and informative - explaining what she was doing and how this was going to help him. She went by it step by step and I went from being in tears to feeling composed because I understood the basics of the issues my cat was having. The receptionist team were extremely kind and empathetic. It was a horrible and stressful day, especially because my insurance would not cover the treatment, but they made the day bearable with their kindness. Thank you for taking care of my cat (and me too!)

Negative experience: Medivets are money focused and don’t care about providing a good service. You'll be kept waiting regularly despite arriving on time because “emergency” appointments have come in - but of course don’t expect a courtesy call to inform you that you might be waiting 30mins extra to be seen. You’ll get threatening letters sent to you for them forgetting to add a cost to your bill. The prices are extortionate and don’t reflect the service you get. Depending on who you see, they will rush and not clip nails, they’ll ask you to put on the flea treatment / worm tablets at home yourself including other medicine your pet may need that clearly require trained or capable hands to do at home. The days of animal focused care and compassion are far and in between. Do not recommend at all!

The vet was so gentle and caring with my very frightened little kitty both at her health check /vaccination and also when checking her in to be spayed. She is only 1 day post op and a little miserable but eating and drinking. Gave clear verbal and written advice. She also got a Bravery Award Certificate!

I have had my past 2 dogs 14 years registered with St Leonards and before Marshall and tills .... always been happy and service with Karl and Co was outstanding through some of my toughest times owning a dog .. THO since medivet has taken over things ha e changed and iam not just on about prices etc ... now removed my 7yr old dog from the books and registered else where ...

Fantastic experience: Our dog had his teeth cleaned here recently. The staff were incredibly friendly and professional and helped ease our worries about the procedure as he had never been under anaesthetic before. They looked after him so well and I will happily trust them to care for him again. I highly recommend this practice to all pet owners in the area.

Fantastic experience: I took archie my jack chi puppy to medi vet when he was 2 and a half month old for his 1st and 2nd vaccinations flea and worm tablets everything was explained bout the vaccinations I then took him back for problems with his anul glands again all explained so I understood the medication and again took him back for castration teeth extraction claws clipped it was so easy to book appointments reception team are exeptional Archie is now 1 and half year old and thriving being his cheeky self BIG THANKYOU TO ALL THE TEAM FOR TAKING GREAT CARE OF MY ARCHIE would definitely recommend any pet owners to go to Medivet 100% POSITIVE

Fantastic experience: We go to Medivet for years now. But this time our doggy got really poorly, he was in pain and lost weight. He's 12, and I was so worried we might loose him. He had an op, everything was clearly explained to me prior and I was contacted throughout the process. It wasn't cheap, but I must express how grateful I am to everyone who saved him. He is back to himself and in good health now. Thanks to all staff for being kind, patient and understanding ❤️

Fantastic experience: Vey Clean & welcoming all the staff are friendly. We feel listened to with any concerns we might have with our pet. Everyone was kind & understanding when we lost our Mia last year.

Negative experience: A very unprofessional veterinary practice. We have never been treated in such a way, we were lied to by a so called qualified Vet - Melody and the Practice Manager - Nicola Mellor and Regional Operations Director - Jenna Covill are useless and did not address our complaint fully. The communication from them was poor and inadequate. This practise has gone down since Medivet took it over from St.Leonards. If you love your animal and want the best possible care and treatment for them, then please take them elsewhere. We have registered our pets with another veterinary practice that is professional and has integrity to put the care of our animals first before money! This vets is revenue over the care and welfare of your animals! AVOID! I have been informed that we are not the first to complain about the poor service received from Melody. Melody has misdiagnosed another animal that resulted in the owner moving their animals to another veterinary practice. AVOID! The photo is of our cat Yogi who passed away because of the lack of having an experienced vet to treat him. We will never forgive Medivet for the loss of our cat.

Fantastic experience: We came to Medivet for a second opinion for our pets mysterious symptoms. Straight away vet Miklos was very helpful and made a referral for us, diagnosis progressed very quickly with medivets support. Sadly it was not an outcome we hoped for, however the whole team were very supportive and despite only being a client there for a few weeks they treated us and our pet Nala like we had been with them for years. We are so grateful to have been surrounded my such wonderful, caring people during some of our hardest days. Thank you to Kathryn especially, her kindness and warmth made things that little bit easier.

Positive experience: I'm sorry to say this vet has properly gone downhill since being taken over by medi vet. The prices have risen and the staff have all changed. The vets seem unable to diagnose anything without a scan or an xray

Fantastic experience: I visited Medivet with my 3 month old puppy and I can not speak highly enough with the service we received. The staff were so caring not only to my puppy but also towards me and my son (who was very emotional). The services were that exceptional that I have now registered my pup with Medivet from a different surgery.

Fantastic experience: The staff were friendly, caring and kind from first contact through the whole process of Ivy’s (my sprocker spaniel) operation. When the vet first came out to meet us he crouched down to my dog, fussed her and spoke to her in such a lovely “dog friendly” way. Ivy took to him straight away which has NEVER happened before with a vet. Whilst I appreciate vets are a medical practice, this is where I am taking “my baby” who certainly doesn’t care for serious vetinary chat. We both felt comforted, understood and most importantly safe at st Leonard’s vet practice in Derby. Ivy and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Negative experience: Absolutely disgusting service. Rang up for 3 days straight with regards to a pregnant dog being poorly and struggling to give birth. To be told to wait 2 days and then today at 9am to be told the vet will call us back. Yet to receive a phone call. Call another vets and was told to rush to the vets as they realised how serious it was. Mother rushed to surgery and was told it was an emergency situation. If we waited for this phone call mother would have passed.

Fantastic experience: The staff were very helpful on the phone and via email. The prices for treatment and consultation are very reasonable compared to others locally. We felt the vet we saw was straightforward and gave good advice for treatment.

Negative experience: Avoid this place... If you care about your pets. My mum took her cat for a routine check and only wanted stuff for fleas They gave her cat a worming tablet within 90min she had to be put to sleep. Yet her health check up was fine, and was allowed to go home after worming and my mum buying the flea stuff... But my mum had to bring her back because of her breathing. It was negligence by the vet she did not tell my mum if there was any possible side effects.. The cat did not even need worming If my mum has not taken her cat to the vets she would still be alive now. I have read other people's reviews about medivet and all they want is profit they lie and fob you off to make money, also it's known that medivet tell there vets they must earn so much each month... The lady clearly was either put under pressure or did not have proper training for the job... And i am sure there will be more cases like this.

Fantastic experience: The only issue I had with the practice was that it was not explained to me that it would be me giving my dog his anti-worm and anti flea tablets. I assumed it would be a vet doing this as this medication is covered in the health plan. Other than that, a 5 star service.

Fantastic experience: Karl is one amazing vet who is really hard to find these days. He took a great care of our beagles when they needed surgeries, was professional, caring and kept us informed and up to date woth treatment and progress. Melodie was also responsible for looking after us and I can say she is extremely helpful, easy to talk to, friendly and caring. Receptionists always with smiles on their faces and of course helpful. Super vets and great practice in general !

Negative experience: Used to be a fantastic vets, when Karl was there, the absolute best in Derby by far but sadly now a profit focussed commercial practice employing low quality vets and admin staff - at my last visit no one smiled at me or even said hello to me at reception and the vet prescribed me an unnecessary non-medical item that had not been discussed in the consultation which unexpectedly added to the expense. Such a shame. Would give zero stars if possible

Negative experience: Worst vets ever!! Gone completely down hill since changed to Medivet. Avoid like the plague. Rude incompetent staff I wouldn't trust with a pencil never mind an animal. In regards to the generic response. I emailed them before this review. Still had no response.

Fantastic experience: I sadly had to have my dog rudy put to sleep, and I just wanted to thank all staff. I felt it was all done so well with compassion and sympathy. I can't express how grateful I am, even humans don't get that kind of compassion in the hospitals nowadays. Karl was very professional as always, rudy also had his ligament done about 6yrs ago and we are forever grateful of those extra years you gave us. And to top it all off I received a beautiful hand written card with seeds to plant for rudy. I'm just really taken aback with this service. I just didn't expect anyone to care that much but I could tell you all really did.

Fantastic experience: We cannot thank the staff enough at St Leonard’s vets when caring for our dog Rolo this week. The vets, nurses, VCA’s and receptionists have been absolutely amazing and helped us through a very difficult heartbreaking week when we sadly lost our beautiful doggy Rolo. Fantastic experience: After being with Scarsdale Vets with our last Border Terrier we chose to go with Saint Leonards with our new Border and so glad we made the right decision. Compared to Scarsdale who are purely commercial Saint Leonards are what you expect a Vets practice to be. The staff are caring and amazing and could not do more. We had our Border in recently for a procedure and the care was 100% I would recommend to anyone this practice plus the bonus is you don’t feel like you are being ripped off and the staff are so friendly even down to the last detail of giving your pet a certificate

Negative experience: My mother recently had an ill dog. She took him to the vet and was met by a vet who had no compassion whatsoever. My mother is 86 and didn't need this upsetting interaction. We then took him to Paw Print vets who were the complete opposite and couldn't do enough for her. When spoken to she was told that English is not this vets first language, a complete cop out. Shame on you.

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend Medivet here. Amazing staff. The receptionists were very welcoming and nice. We have seen Miklos with our dogs and he was an amazing vet.

Positive experience: Never been before and unfortunately had to have my pet put down . New vet gave us an estimate but then after talking to other staff came back and gave us the correct price . Seemed abit confused about prices . Wasn’t very compassionate and at the end was just stood at the door waiting for us to leave but didn’t say anything , so just felt awkward and uncomfortable. The reception team however were much more friendly and caring. I know vets are very skilled , and knowledgeable but customer service and being kind goes a long way

Fantastic experience: As far as care for your pet goes they are great, never felt brushed off or like your being stupid. Seems extremely knowledgeable unlike some others in derby. Pricey I think I paid around £300 to work and flea two dogs but could of been cheaper on their plan.

Fantastic experience: Excellent service from Karl. We are concerned that now the practice has been sold to Medivet that we will still have a vet with the knowledge and skills of Karl, when he leaves in 2024.

Fantastic experience: Price was comparatively very good and of everywhere we looked they offered the cheapest price for the surgery out dog needed. Despite the (relative) low cost (still £4000) the service was excellent, Karl was especially brilliant but all the various staff we dealt with along the way were great.

Fantastic experience: By far the best vets I have ever used. Such amazing people, very caring and very empathetic. When I lost my boy to rainbow bridge, they were amazing. Made me feel like they cared about my dog as much as I did and that made the whole process more comfortable for me. Will always use St Leonards in future and will recommend anyone use them.
