Our comment from InfoVet about City Vets Ravenhill Road:

City Vets Ravenhill Road is a veterinary practice known for its professional and caring staff. Many users appreciate the kindness and compassion shown by the team during difficult times. Clients have noted that the staff are friendly, attentive, and take the time to listen to concerns, ensuring that pets receive the care they need. The location is convenient, and the practice has a good selection of products available for pet owners.

However, there have been some concerns raised regarding communication and aftercare. Instances of miscommunication, rude staff interactions, and delays in service have also been mentioned.

Fantastic experience: Professional and caring

Pierce Adair Posted on Google 2 weeks ago

Negative experience: I strongly advise anyone using this vet at all! I paid in advance for a paw print of my dog after her passing, something that is meant to be a permanent and irreplaceable keepsake. After over a month of delays and poor communication, I was eventually told that my dog had been incorrectly labelled. Because of this mistake, the paw print was lost and cannot now be produced. There has been no proper accountability! This was not a small error — it was a completely avoidable failure that resulted in the permanent loss of a memorial item that cannot ever be replaced. Based on my experience, I would strongly urge others to be very cautious when trusting this vet with anything as sensitive and important as end-of-life pet care and memorials or just simply move to a different vet seems not to be the first mistake made and surly not the last. The only good thing from this was that the vet surgeon we had was very polite and friendly. I didn’t get her name but she was very professional and took the time to explain how the anaesthesia put my dog to sleep.

Fantastic experience: Took my son's staffy to get spayed. Great with us and the dog. They explained everything. The dog still was happy to come back for her checkup after getting spayed.

Negative experience: I've been going to City Vets for decades because of the convenience of its location yet now the waiting area is extremely uncomfortable especially if I'm waiting near a hour with my cat stuck in a carrier all stressed out. They have have a good track record of giving the wrong diagnosis, from learning dogs dying from wrong meds, and my cats having given tablets that harmed and almost killed them. so if you really love your best friends I would seek better alternatives and steer clear!!

Fantastic experience: I have always taken my pets to city vets Ravenhill Road but when I moved to Comber I thought I would save time and take my cat to vets in Comber big mistake I didn't find them caring I thought they were rude ( not the reception staff they were very nice ) but I'm not sure if the lady I dealt with was a vet or a nurse but all I can say is I definitely won't be back. I won't be changing from City vets Ravenhill Road again all the staff there are really nice and caring

Negative experience: Been with City Vets for years & have always been satisfied with the service provided until recently when I attended thier Shore Road branch . A nurse weighed.my dog as usual & asked what Arthur's problem was. So far so good. She told me the vet will him shortly. About 5 minutes passed and the nurse reappeared and said she would take Arthur to see the vet. Strange I thought that I wasn't asked to accompany him. Anyway I let it go. When she reappeared with Arthur after the consultation she started to convey what the vet had said. The reception area was busy & nosey and it was difficult to hear and concentrate on what she was telling me. Fast forward a couple of days. I rang the Ravenhill Road branch which is my local one & enquired was this not accompanying your dog to see the vet a new policy to b e told that if the head vet had a lot of patients to see then yes that would be the policy. Unbelievable. Will be leaving the practice on Monday unfortunately as I need to be with my dog when seeing a vet. I have never heard the like of it before. Sorry City Vets you have lost a long time costumer

Negative experience: I brought my cat in for an aggression issue. They forgot to write down my appointment and had to rush to see my cat. I was not asked to come into the consultation room for some reason. Therefore, I did not have the time to give any information about my cat. The vet came back announcing that they found the issue: he's blind. I knew that, he was born blind, I could've mentioned it if given more than one minute to explain the issue. I don't know exactly what was performed during this health check, but when I asked if his weight was healthy, I was told they didn't weigh him. I was charged 30 pounds for nothing, except for being told to keep the lights on at home.

Negative experience: After taking my bengal kitten here for 1 year I decided to seek a second opinion on her medical problem. I emailed and called the veterinary practice to ask for her medical history to be forwarded to the vet who would having a look at her. When the medical history wasn't received as told to me by the vet this morning i phoned city vets ravenhill to simply ask why it hadn't been sent and by no means was I rude I was just enquiring.. The nasty abrupt attitude I got from the receptionist Rachael this morning was abhorrent! She was the rudest angriest nastiest person i think I have ever endured and she also banged the phone down mid-way through the end of the conversation. Rachel, the enquiry regarding cleo's medical history bieng sent to another veterinary practice was only a "question" not a personal attack and if I was your employer and you were the first point of contact at my business you wouldn't be after your aggressive combative tone on the phone this morning. Disgraceful behaviour will never bring my pet here again. Avoid this place.

Fantastic experience: Facilitated 2 emergency appointments for my sick dog this week, receptionist is very pleasant and friendly, the vet himself is very thorough and caring towards both my dog and my concerns, highly recommended

Negative experience: If I could give no stars I would. Very rude staff, that need a wee course in respect & manners. Wouldn't take a goldfish to them.

Negative experience: Terrible place. I called them to schedule a neutering for my cat. The receptionist had a very strong Northern Irish accent, and since I’m a foreigner, I couldn’t understand. I politely asked her to explain again, but she was incredibly rude, yelled at me angrily, and then just hung up. I can’t believe a place like that would have any patience with animals.

Fantastic experience: We lost our little dog tonight after near 15 years with him. Myself and four sons were with him at the end. The compassion and understanding shown I will never forget. From all the staff, even to the customers as we left felt our pain with us. No words needed to be spoken. Thank you to everyone at City Vets today who made this incredibly hard journey Manageable. To our best little friend ever Rockey RIP.

Negative experience: I really didn't want to write this review, as being reminded of our lovely wee pet, upsets me all over again. I wouldn't wish my experience on my worst enemy. It's cruelty beyond belief. Having woken up this morning, on the 10th week anniversary of the passing of our wee cat, I have received yet another reminder text and email about Jess. What part of 'my cat is dead', don't you comprehend? Does anyone actually care in this 'practice'? Our cat was losing weight and off her food, so we took her here hoping that it wasn't serious. They took her off us( btw you're not allowed to accompany your pet) and returned very quickly to say that all was fine and that it was good she'd lost weight. We were told to take her back if she'd lost more weight in the next 4 weeks. Of course, we were delighted that she was okay but in the back of our minds there was that niggling doubt that we hadn't been given any explanation for this. Jess did lose more weight over a period of time. We decided to get a second opinion after reading the dreadful feedback about this place. We took her to another veterinary practice with 5 star reviews. The experience couldn't have been more different, lovely people who clearly care about pets and their owners. They quickly diagnosed her with an aggressive form of cancer after blood tests and xrays, and explained that she was suffering badly and that we needed to put her to sleep to prevent her suffering any more. The communication and genuine concern for her were paramount. I can't help feeling guilty that we took her to City Vets in the first place or whether her passing could have been prevented. Two days before Jess passed, I called the lifeless receptionist to request Jess' medical records. I told her that she was having to be put to sleep. Her response was, 'Okay' to which I responded,' No, it's not okay. After three further calls to get this information, my new vets forwarded them to me. They were more successful in getting a response but also had to chase this up. I was horrified to see on the notes that her weight loss was 'Significant', which at no point was shared with us. They also said that she was probably eating at neighbours houses and that she must have needed to lose weight. What utter nonsense! So, four weeks after Jess ' passing I receive an email with her medical records from Aoife. I had already told this woman that Jess was being put to sleep! How insensitive can you be!! I emailed her straightaway to remind her that Jess was no longer with us and told her why, again. I also said that she might wish to share this with the vet who saw her. No response! So, the very next day I get an reminder email and text that Jess needed her spot on treatment. Since then, I've received emails and text messages reminding me to get her booked in for her annual review and vaccination. This is extremely upsetting. My daughter called the practice earlier today to ask them to stop torturing me with reminders of our wee deceased cat and got an uncompassionare and unapologetic receptionist. No surprises there! I can't imagine the experience we would have had if we'd gone back there with Jess. If you really love your pet, avoid this place like the plague. I just wish we'd gone to the other vets in the first place. They even sent us a sympathy card and arranged Jess' cremation and a wee casket for her ashes. Sorry, City Vets but you truly deserve this review.

Negative experience: One star is too generous for this ‘vets’, and like many other reviews have said if I could leave this without one I would. My mum brought our cat in to them after she had lost a significant amount of weight in a short period of time and was not eating as much, and after examining her (which my mum was not allowed to be in the room for) they said she needed to lose weight anyway and was probably getting fed at a neighbours, which didn’t even make sense as she was losing weight. We brought her to a different, good vets who straight away said that it was not normal and ran several tests, which showed that she had multiple aggressive tumours and she had to be put to sleep 3 days later. My mum rang City vets at the time in tears to tell them and to ask for her medical records, and the rude, insensitive receptionist I believe was called Aoife replied ‘oh right ok’ and then took 4 weeks to send the records over despite several follow ups. No apologies, no ‘sorry to hear this’, and from reading other reviews it seems like this was not just her having a bad day. My mum has since rang and emailed again to say that she had been put to sleep, but has continued to receive text messages almost weekly to remind us that Jess was overdue a check up and spot on treatment - with how incompetent they seem to be I would not be surprised that they would again name Jess slimmer of the month despite being dead for 10 weeks and cremated. After receiving yet another reminder today, on the 10 week anniversary of her death, I rang them - unsure if it was the same receptionist my mum had the displeasure of speaking to before, or if being uncaring and nonchalant is a requirement for all employees there, but after explaining that Jess had passed away after being misdiagnosed by them and that they are continuing to send reminder text messages to my heartbroken mum, I got the same ‘right ok what’s the name’ and not a single apology. If you care about your pet at all I would urge you to stay well away from this sorry excuse of a vets. They should be ashamed of themselves, but they seem incapable of normal human emotion so I can’t imagine they are.

Negative experience: Worst vets please never take any animals to this place. My miniature dachshund was due his yearly vaccination and took severe allergic reaction I was not told this could happen no information was given at time of vaccine. On our way home my 1year old miniature dachshund was severely sick then his eyes a face a neck started to swell very bad very quick. When I phoned the vet they asked me to take a photo and email it to them. I was not happy with that and insisted I bring my dog back. They had an attitude like well this can happen. But I was not informed about anything like this they Monitored him for half an hour and was willing to send him home with me. I asked could he die and they could not guarantee that he wouldn’t. I then insisted on them giving him another injection to counteract the vaccine, they give him. The girl that was bringing my dog out had no clue about anything she was saying and the actual male veterinarian that was working with my dog didn’t even bother to come out and talk with me. Very unprofessional behaviour from all staff. I will be taking my issue further as I’m absolutely disgusted with the way they handled the situation. Please stay away from city vet keep your animals safe.

Negative experience: My miniature Dachshund was just in the Ravenhill city vets to get the zoetis van 7 after he got the yearly vaccination then when we were driving back home he was sick all of his food he had the hour before which they should have mentioned not to feed him a hour before or he would be sick but they failed to tell us after we got home his eye started to go red which was also not mentioned would happen after 10 minutes all of his face including neck as well was all swollen we call the vet and they said to send a picture of his face but we said we will come up because we were scared it would got so swollen he wouldn't be able to breathe we went up and the veterinarian said she will take him for 30 minutes to see how the swelling got which we agreed to after coming back the veterinarian came out still without our dog but said that his swollen has gone down and said that they would give him a antidote to help reduce the swelling but the vaccination won't work and then when we asked for the money back from paying 40 pounds for the vaccination she said it might still work and she wouldnt give us the money back and said there was a chance he could die so we just wasted 40 pounds for nothing but worry

Positive experience: Been going hear for a while and they are not bad but have got to be honest it’s stated it’s affordable vets and I called in for worming tablets and was told I have to bring my pup over to be examined which costs £27.50 just to check him over for worming tablets. The prices arnt affordable for some people. I had another issue at Easter with my other dog it was an emergency I was being charged £280 just to look at him lucky enough he was registered with Clare vets and the charges £77 to look at him. I just don’t like the way it states affordable vets when it isn’t. Thing is vets know that pets are like family and are going to pay Wotever it is. They need to do something about the costs and make it affordable for people.

Fantastic experience: Great staff, friendly & compassionate. Been bringing our dogs here for years and always feel they listen to concerns and appropriately investigate. They were so good with our old boy last week, giving us as much time as we needed with him. Would recommend this vets and team to everybody

Justine Hartley Posted on Google 2 years ago

Negative experience: I am only giving one star because any treatment we have had has been beneficial to my pet, but unfortunately the customer services is HORRENDOUS. Worst vets practice I've ever experienced, would not recommend to any pet owner than wants good quality care for their animal. Unprofessional reception with staff that have no interest in anything apart from taking your money. Never greeted well and its very clear that the receptionists don't like animals. Other vets would say hello to my dogs before me (which I love because you know then that they are going to get quality care from people that ACTUALLY LIKE ANIMALS) The actual vets is like a warehouse, there is nothing calming about the inside of this place and its not somewhere I will ever feel comfortable visiting again. I cannot imagine having to experience the loss of a pet in a place as dingy, uncomfortable and unwelcoming as that. These vets left my dog (whom has social anxiety and was re-homed and abandoned multiple times by previous owners) in a crate on his own for 7x hours before a tooth removal without telling me. They told me to drop him off at 8:30am, which I did and when I called at 3:30pm they told me he still wasn't in surgery, meaning he was on his own in a crate for the full day without my knowledge, I would have rather kept him home and taken him to them in the afternoon if I knew this would be the case. We get regular prescriptions and every time the price changes (sometimes £15+) and when we ask for invoices it was such a big deal to the receiptionist to do this for us. We decided to change vets and when we made the request for our information to be transferred we made it very clear that we were unhappy with the services and quality of care and wanted all of our pets moved. When we went to our now new vets (who are great by the way) to get a regular allergy medicine which is needed daily for my pet, they told us that City Vets had only transferred one of our two dogs information, meaning that the dog whom needed the regular prescription had to go without for a few days due to City Vets incompetence, causing him to quite literally rip the skin off himself due to the itching. I had to call City Vets 3x over the course of a week to get this information chased and transferred over. After this I decided to log a complaint with City Vets due to the unprofessional and uncaring nature in which they treat the animals and customers, I logged this complaint on 25/04 and STILL have not received a response or acknowledgement, even after emailing every other day for an update and calling to ask for an update, in which the recptionist is very quick to always say 'it isnt something they deal with', that seems to be a common thing in that practice!! I would save yourself the stress and hassle, and go with a different vets!! If I knew sooner I would have rather spent more money for better vet care than go here ever again.

Fantastic experience: Took my cat for a check up vets and staff are really lovely

Callum Murray Posted on Google 2 years ago

Negative experience: I took my pet to this vet for a sudden health issue due to rapid breathing and lack of appetite. My pet was fine before and after the appointment, in terms of its ability to walk, drink, etc. Was told it had a heart murmur, no loss of colour, and some symptoms common with early heart disease, but no other concerns. Zero discussion of possible side effects, allergies or even possibility of death as vet did not seem to think my pet's condition was severe enough. Vet then prescribed Furosemide and Cardisure to give every 12 hours for 2 weeks. Within an hour of being given medication, following the given instructions, my pet suddenly collapsed and passed away.

Negative experience: On the 05/09/2023 myself and my partner took our dog to this vet as he was extremely ill. Upon arriving we were greeted by a vet named Martin in the car park area (which I found odd). I explained to Martin that my dog was not himself considering he is extremely ill and asked Martin would he mind letting my dog smell him/get to know him before preforming any investigation into his illness. Martin completely disregarded this and told my partner to hold the dog still whilst he felt his abdomen area. My dog became unsettled and he ordered us to place a muzzle on him (bear in mind my dog was extremely dehydrated and uneasy about the whole situation). My dog broke free from the muzzle and let off a growl, my partner had him on a lead throughout this time. My dog then walked towards Martin and he repeatedly kicked my dog in the face whilst screaming ‘I don’t want to get bit, he’s going to attack me’. My dog has never attacked anyone in his life and whilst I can understand a certain extent of uncertainty on Martins behalf I feel this was extremely unprofessional and downright evil. Martin further on told us that our dog is a big breed and he could not risk being bit. I would advise anyone with a larger breed dog or a dog who is seriously unwell to stay far away from this practice. I took my dog to Cornerstone Vets and they were absolutely amazing/patient with my dog - paying an extra amount of money is seriously worth your pets wellbeing. I will never visit this practice again, I am traumatised from the whole experience.

Negative experience: Cats were coming home with fleas. had my cats first appointment about a month ago and a couple days after we found fleas, this was odd because they're fully indoor cats and it would be hard for them to catch but we still weren't 100% sure. Took care of the fleas and the cats were getting better but then had another appointment a few days ago vets said they had no signs of fleas... Two days later the fleas are back and theirs no other places they could have got them from.Vets seem nice enough but with this issue we're just going to change practices

Anna Miksa Posted on Google 2 years ago

Negative experience: Unpleasant experience. Staff don't care about customers. Had to wait my appointment for 30min I was really in the rush, girl at the desk didn't care. Also they had to do scan for my dog, but at the end they said I had to phone in the advice for that (but previously it was agrred for scan) So, basically, he said to me that my dog is not in the good condition, but sure I already knew that. So I payd for information which I already knew and they waist my time. Pity, the old staff was much better.

Negative experience: I’m sorry I have to write this, but my baby talulagh, she was a shih tzu and she had just turned 13. She was ok but she had a bad red cut on her belly that kept bleeding so we took her to the vets to get checked out and they said she would have to get it removed or else it would probably get infected and she would become ill and die. So a few days later we took her back to get a test to see if she was strong enough to be put under anethstesia (incorrect spelling) and it came back that she had a heart murmur and fluid around the heart. They gave her steroids and kept her alone in the vets for 9 hours that day and she came back sicker than we’d ever seen her before. Within the next few days they pumped her with more and more medication and more steroid injections and she couldn’t breathe properly so she was trying to keep her head up to stay awake. She couldn’t even walk and was so weak. Where her heart is she had black and purple bruising from the inside out, probably because of how much meds they gave her, ( bear in mind she’s a miniature so she was very tiny) I laid my hand under her head and she fell asleep sitting up as she rested on me. She died during the night. She never even got the chance to go on her heart meds because of the medication that they injected into her. Before we took her to the vets she was bright and active and barking and playing and now she’s gone. No one in this world could convince me that those vets didn’t kill her. I miss her so much every day.

Fantastic experience: We have been with city vets for over 6 years. Throughout this time our pets have always been incredibly well looked after and we will definitely stay with this practice for as long as we possibly can. We very sadly lost a cat about a month back. Albert, one of the vets, was the one who met us that day. The amount of compassion and kindness he showed us that day was more than we thought possible. When we have been in since the staff has asked us how we are holding up and you can tell they genuinely care. This practice is filled with incredible staff who truly love animals and want the best for them. Could not recommend this practice more, we are so lucky that they look after our family members when they need it.

Fantastic experience: Incredible service and care for animals. Always provides the exact care for my cat without any hassle and sorted pet passport, vaccine and certification requirements for international travel. There's a shortage of good vets in the city which is why they're so busy here and under some circumstances can't take new patients, considering a majority of folks in Belfast bring their pets here for the high quality of care.

Negative experience: Wouldn't recommend at all .unethical practiced and also tricking people into working for free. Not exactly professional that they dont even pay veterinary staff that are supposed to be looking after your pets. Owner said that said staff were "allowed" to work elsewhere at same time. Complete crook. Update that several years on they've yet to pay, apologise or rectify the fact they made me work a 40 hour week and wouldn't even pay minimum wage after literally hiring me to do a vet tech job. Disgusting behaviour.

Negative experience: I was very upset by the recent appointment for my cat. We came for castration, I was very nervous about my cat, the surgery was ok (I hope, we are still recovering). But the condition of cat was awful! The clinic returned my cat, he was fully urinated, the whole body! I put a nappy inside the carrier bag before the appointment, and as I understand nobody change it and my cat lay in urine for the whole day! I can't shower the cat after the surgery, so the cat and all the house is stinking disgusting... Moreover, there are lots of bacteria and infections in urine, so it's dangerous for cat with open wound to lie in this urine for the whole day! Please be careful to pets trusted to you and if it is difficult for you to change nappies (for me it is a real surprise that veterinary do not have nappies or you just do not check animals after the surgery and narcosis), just ask you clients to bring extra nappies themselves!

Fantastic experience: Seen my wee rabbit really quick and made an appointment for first thing next day to check him again. Gave him 2 gut mobilizer injections seems to have sorted him out rightly was about £25 for each visit but needs to be done and would pay that every week rather than go to the Belmont vets, they would of charged a fortune.

Fantastic experience: A great vets, they keep charges low and are really lovely to the animals - and their owners. I have been a customer for many, many years, and wouldn't go anywhere else.

Elle McC Posted on Google 4 years ago

Negative experience: This vet has the worst customer service I have ever experienced at a vets. I had to bring my cat in months ago for serious expensive treatment and although all other vets I have used submit insurance claims on customers behalf through a portal, I had to get a form printed at a library and bring them the forms directly to them for them to not be touched for over 4 months. If you have insurance that you wish to use DO NOT USE THIS VET as they are actively trying not to assist those that require insurance support for their pets.

Fantastic experience: Love these guys, they really seem to care about your pets and listen to your concerns. And theyre good value and wont do anything/give treatment they dont think is necessary. <3

Negative experience: Waited about 45 minutes after the appointment time to be seen then spoke to the vet and my terrified pet was taken away. I wasn't impressed, very expensive and not able to see what was happening with my pet. Defo made the ordeal more stressful for her.

Negative experience: Put my cat down without consulting me. He wasn't even one years old. I called about 40 minutes before they informed me and was told by the receptionist that he was sitting up awake in his kennel which was obviously untrue. Sent him home 3 times when I knew something was wrong. When I went to collect his body in tears I was greeted with "There's an outstanding bill to pay". So cold and emotionless. If I hadn't taken my cat here he would still be alive. DO NOT USE THIS VETS

Dean Burns Posted on Google 5 years ago

Fantastic experience: I've had a bad few months with my two pets with different wee things popping up here and there, so I've been running in and out of here quite a lot. I've dealt with a few different vets each time and I couldn't say a bad word about any of them, or anyone else who works here; they go out of their way to do everything they can for you over the phone and face to face. You can tell everyone in here genuinely loves animals and your pet is more than just a number. The people in here are grafting away for long hours and really aren't given enough credit for the job their doing with everything that's going on. They've definitely made our lives a lot easier and I can't recommend them highly enough! :)

Fantastic experience: One of my wee rescue dogs used to hate the vet when we first got her but goes in happily now when ever we need to pop in. Our other dog got his snip done here but drags us in the door. I think that just goes to show how great the whole team are with animals that dogs are happy and excited to go inside.
