Plymouth Veterinary Hospital: Reviews
Fantastic experience: Just completed Puppy Training class with Jo, these sessions are excellent and free if you are part of pet club plan. We've learnt so much in the few sessions we've attended, from basic training to socialisation. Lots of information sheets provided too. Would 100% recommend thanks Jo!
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a lovely review, with such a gorgeous photo! We really do appreciate it.
Fantastic experience: The new premises are clean and create an efficient space for waiting comfortably before seeing one of the tram of caring and knowledgable vets.
Thank you for leaving us a positive review, we really do appreciate it.
Negative experience: Sad state of affairs!! Lovely people. Posh expensive building. Unfortunately test on my little dog's eye could not be performed owing to equipment not working. That cost me £78 to be told this.DISGUSTING!!!!!¡
We are sorry you feel this way, please feel free to send an email to [email protected] so we can discuss your case further, we are unable to do so in an open forum.
Fantastic experience: I highly recommend Plymouth Veterinary Hospital. We recently took our dog, Honey, in for a suspected cruciate ligament tear, and the staff were wonderful. Lauren at reception was lovely and so helpful. A huge thank you to Simon, who was incredibly patient with Honey. She has a major vet phobia, and while nothing can truly put her at ease in a clinic, Simon was gentle, kind, and understanding of her fear. Honey is family to us, and we are so grateful to have found a team that treated her with such genuine compassion. Amazing service! I would recommend
We are so pleased of your positive experience with us, we hope Honey is doing ok. Thank you for leaving us a 5 star review, we really do appreciate it.
Fantastic experience: Best vet’s I have ever used very professional & lovely clean & welcoming environment

Thank you so much for your lovely review. We are so glad you feel that way!
Fantastic experience: I cannot express enough how kind and caring every person who works here is. From the vets themselves, reception staff and nurses. Every person we had contact with was incredibly kind. Unfortunately for us it was time to say goodbye. At what was an awful time for us, was made peaceful for our pup. Thank you for all your work, and support.
Please accept our heartfelt sympathies to you all at this very difficult time. We are here for you if you need anything. Thank you for taking the time to leave a lovely review at such a heart breaking time, it means so much to us.
Fantastic experience: Treated our rat with dignity in her last moments. Also gave us a generous discount on the price because we are students. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a lovely review, especially after such a difficult time for you.
Fantastic experience: Every time I go all the staff are all ways happy friendly polite willing to help and do that extra bit if needed

Fantastic experience: Recently finished puppy class with Jo. Jo was very friendly, informative and accommodating sorting out classes for us. We really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of the classes. Jo continues to support us well after the sessions have finished, for which we are very grateful. Denny loved meeting all the other dogs.
Thank you so much for your kind review. We are so glad Denny has enjoyed the puppy classes :)
Negative experience: I have to say this company is a little bit over priced for what the went in there few weeks ago and about £600.00 with in 15 minutes work it's wrong way to much if you ask me c
Please feel free to email us at [email protected] should you wish to discuss this further. We provide a 24 hour, 7 day a week service for clients and animals. The out of hours consult charges are always generally discussed prior to appointments.
Fantastic experience: Excellent care given here. Very clean. Friendly staff.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a lovely review. We really do appreciate it.
Fantastic experience: Amazing vet practice! Very friendly and knowledgeable staff, very clean and tidy❤️ highly recommend!
Thank you for so much for taking the time to leave us a lovely review. We really do appreciate it.
Negative experience: I took my 6 month old kitten on Sunday evening as I was worried after her spay the Wednesday before. Vet took a very Quick Look at her and promised me and my 12 year old daughter she was okay, just sore. £293 later we went home. The following morning after she had gone down hill quick, I took her back to our vets where I was told she’s in kidney failure and nothing could be done so she was put to sleep. If the vet had actually done the routine checks properly that night she may have had a chance of survival!
We are sorry to hear of the loss of your kitten. Unfortunately we are unable to discuss specifics on an open forum, but please email us at [email protected] if you wish to discuss further.
Fantastic experience: Linda and Kirsten make it a pleaaure in coming to the vets at Plympton, Super Service and Alex the vet is brilliant. Well Done.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a lovely review. I have passed this onto the team :)
Fantastic experience: Excellent vets ,lovely staff. Willing to go the extra mile for your pets.

Fantastic experience: Excellent place to take your pets - very clean, lovely team, very welcoming and friendly
Thank you for taking the time to leave a lovely review, we really do appreciate it.
Fantastic experience: Well organised ,clean practice with friendly staff who put pets and their people first. Paying monthly on the pet plan means no surprise bills for regular visits and healthcare flea and wormers . Update New building on William prance road. A lot more spacious ,with room to separate the dogs from the cats. Also a bigger carpark.
Thank you for your lovely review. Kind Regards
Fantastic experience: Took my little dog in today, the staff were fantastic, got his ingrowing nail sorted out, thanks for their patience with my feisty boy. My chihuahua called bear,I put my maidan name, many thanks Dawn
Hi Dawn,
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a positive review. We really do appreciate it. We hope little Bear is feeling better now. Kind Regards
Fantastic experience: Excellent support for my dog. Alex the vet was brilliant with my dog and explaining the processes of treatment, costs etc.
Hi,
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a positive review. We really do appreciate it.
Fantastic experience: Excellent service all round with friendly reception staff and kind, caring vet who explained things and answered any questions. Highly recommend
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and your kind words. Best Wishes
Fantastic experience: I have gone to this vets for many years and have always found them very helpful and kind. My only thoughts, which is to all vets, is the charges. Considering the claim is the animal comes first due to the prices many people, including myself, cannot afford to get another animal when I lose my precious Ruby, not because of feeding, grooming etc but because of the extortionate prices vets charge. Animals that could be finding loving homes are at risk of being put to sleep. What a shame. Please vets reconsider your prices. Other than that they are by far the best vets in Plymouth
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We understand, we do try to help where we can, for example, now offering klarna to spread out the costs of veterinary care.
Fantastic experience: Visited the vets with a few concerns, vet was brilliant listened to my concerns suggested we did test which eliminated a lot of my concerns nothing was to much trouble, would definitely try and get any follow up appointments with this vet
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a lovely review. We really do appreciate it.
Fantastic experience: On holiday and our German Shepherd Leo had a massive allergy flare up. Treated him same day and were just brilliant with him and us. Thank you so much. He’s already improving and the cost was so reasonable considering the urgent appointment we needed. Amazing treatment all round. Thank you Isabella
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a lovely review. We really do appreciate it. We are very lucky to have Isabella with us :)
Fantastic experience: I think plymouth veterinary group is fantastic thank you so much mandy&girly loveless
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a lovely review. We really do appreciate it.
Fantastic experience: Attended two puppy classes with Jo and they were both amazing. Jo really does know her stuff when it comes to puppies and myself and my family have learned lots. I would say to anybody getting a puppy to attend these classes because not only will it help your dog but it will also help you. Thank you Jo for helping not only bluebell but us too. We really enjoyed the learning and the WhatsApp group has also been a great addition to our puppy owning journey Bluebell sends kisses xx
Aww look at gorgeous Bluebell! Thank you so much for your lovely review, we really do appreciate it, we are really pleased you are both enjoying the puppy academy.
Fantastic experience: No veterinary surgery is cheap, but the prices are reasonable. I highly recommend the surgery because I’ve been taking my African grey parrots to them for five years and they are always very thorough, Kind, Warm, Caring and they don’t rush and you can tell they care. Great level of service, so it’s a win-win all Round. I travel all way from Exeter down to Derriford to use them since I moved away from Plymouth But I’m staying with them most of the level of care service is consistent and great. Highly recommended
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a lovely review and recommendation, we really do appreciate it. We are very proud of our vets who have achieved their exotic certificates and are so passionate about providing high level of care to our exotic patients.
Fantastic experience: I have moved my bunnies to this practice which is 45 minutes from home as they not only have vets with a brilliant knowledge of bunnies as well as the facilities to diagnose and treat them but also go above and beyond! It means everything to have found this practice.
Hi Jennie,
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this kind review. We are so lucky to have two such caring and knowledgeable vets who have exotic certificates. Take care :)
Fantastic experience: We've just completed our puppy training with Jo and it's been a fantastic experience. She's been incredibly supportive, always available to offer advice and help us navigate any challenges with our little bundle of joy. The WhatsApp group has been a great addition — it's been lovely connecting with other puppy owners, sharing tips and tricks, and discovering new ways to keep our pups entertained, from toys to scent mats and more. Thank you so much for all the helpful information and the email leaflets — they've been great. Our little boy says a big thank you too! xx
Thank you so so much for your glowing review and beautiful photos!! What a handsome boy! We really do appreciate you taking the time to leave us feedback. :)
Negative experience: Absolute rip off, pay a monthly fee with there pet plan go in for a 6 month check up and vet is needed to look at my dog Mistys ear witch cost £75 with no prior warning of the cost for not even 5mins of her time. I am very very disappointed as when spoke with girl on the desk they where unhelpful and just making excuses as to why it’s cost that for less then 5mins of someone’s time. Wish I could get paid £75 for 5 mins of my professional time wouldn’t mind then. Will be cancelling pet plan and moving to a different vets
We are sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction with our service. Unfortunately due to prescribing laws, in order to prescribe the ear medication, Misty needed to be examined by a vet. This is governed by the veterinary medicines directorate (VMD). Please feel free to send a complaint to [email protected] should you wish to discuss further, rather than an open forum.
Fantastic experience: Just completed the puppy academy with Jo and wow it was so beneficial for Ted and myself. I learnt loads even though I have been a dog owner for years. So many tips, advice and useful information. I highly recommend these classes to anyone with or getting a puppy. Thank you Jo. Much appreciated xx
Thank you for your lovely review and photos. What an adorable boy you are Ted! We are so pleased you enjoyed our puppy academy.
Negative experience: My cat was taken in by someone following an RTA, so this is not my usual practice. The care given to my cat was good. The reception staff were lovely. BUT...the company ethics leave a lot to be desired. I was not informed of costs before proceeding with treatment, which in itself is problematic, and secondly, the costs were extortionate. I am realistic about the cost of veterinary treatment, and know it is not cheap. However, on presentation of the invoice I sought comparisons from 2 independent practices, one of which was over 50% less, the other just over 40% less. Prices are not fixed in the industry, so they can charge what they like, but it feels unethical to ramp it up so astronomically, especially when not discussed prior to treatment. When this issue was raised, the clinical partner Richard Hazard blankly denied not having discussed the cost - a direct lie. I was further incensed at being told that I must have been upset and therefore didn't remember properly. At a time that vets are getting a lot of flak for their charges and practices around transparency of pricing, this practice is just making the landscape worse for other more ethical companies. I would suggest avoiding, as there are other great veterinary surgeries close by.
We are so sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction with our pricing. We appreciate your feedback with regards to the care of your cat being good and the reception staff being lovely. Please feel free to send an email to our [email protected] if you wish to discuss this further.
Fantastic experience: Our cat Aggie was run over and killed. Someone found the body and took it to Plymputh Veterinary Hospital. They scanned the chip and IDd Aggie. The way they handed Aggie and the care given was amazing. When I collected Aggie to bury her at home, they handed me a small envelope with her paw prints and some fur, which my daughter loved. All this was done with no charge. Thank you Plymouth Veterinary Hospital
We are so very sorry for your loss, we are thinking of you at this difficult time. If there is anything else we can do, please reach out to us. We appreciate you taking the time to leave us feedback at this difficult time too.
Fantastic experience: They have always been excellent with all of my German shepherds, been with them over 25 years and never had any problems, so wouldn't trust anyone else with my dog
That's so lovely, thank you Tanya!
Fantastic experience: Very freindly and professional service. Would recommend them to anyone
Thank you so much for your kind words and review. We really do appreciate it :)
Fantastic experience: I and my family would recommend The Vetenary practice at Estover, Plymouth. To all of my friends and pet owners, as they give a very good service.
Thank you very much for your kind review. We really appreciate it :)
Fantastic experience: This is for the puppy academy, thank you so much for all the help and advice, and especially for your patience dealing with us new puppy keepers. We, that is Jude. Steve and Pepper the puppy highly recommend the puppy group, it is great fun, friendly and very informative
Thank you for your kind review, we are glad you are enjoying the puppy academy.
Fantastic experience: lovely vets, always fit me in with very little notice. Nicolai was great with my young cat, he has a problem with his teeth and he gave me great advice and help
Thank you for your lovely review, we really do appreciate it :)
Negative experience: This Vet is usually so good. Not on the last visit. Extortionate charges and for what, my family took a poorly cat home in the same condition they brought it in. They didn't feel listened to when trying to say what's been going on and didn't get to go in with our cat to the consulting room. Very upset and angry at the whole experience. Our cat was so ill she had to be put to sleep the following day.
We are very sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction of the service you received. We hope Richard has been able to help with your complaint.
Fantastic experience: Highly recommend. All staff at the practice are approachable, helpful, patient and understanding. They know your pet and their individual needs and preferences. I have always felt well informed and supported discussing and implementing long term preventative health care.
Thank you for your lovely review, we hope your pets are doing well :)
Fantastic experience: The Puppy Academy with Jo has been a life line and a life saver. Jo is so supportive and person centered and goes above and beyond for each puppy and each owner. My puppy has grown in confidence from the socials and we have learnt so much. Jo even did extra walk with us to help us understand more about doggy behavior and to help with anxiety. I actually think I would have had a breakdown if it wasn't for Jo and the academy. It's also been wonderful meeting other new pup owners and sharing info and supporting one another. I cannot recommend this enough!
Thank you for such a lovely review, we are so pleased you are both doing well :)
Negative experience: Please everyone be aware, this veterinary practice is part of a europe-wide group currently under investigation for anti-competitive practices. Their commercial strategy is to buy up all independent vet-owned businesses in an area - as they have done in Plymouth. They then cut costs and raise prices as pet owners have no other local options. I have personally been charged £800 here for a service I was charged £200 for at an independent vets. Find an independent vets’ practice further afield, don’t let yourself be swindled to make a Swedish billionaire richer.
Sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction with our service, feel free to email [email protected] to discuss further.
Fantastic experience: Great staff and a lovely practice. Listened to everything I said and gave me options of treatment etc.
Thank you for your kind words :)
Fantastic experience: Took our puppy to the Puppy Academy which was part of the veterinary groups Pet Health Club and would highly recommend to anyone with a new puppy. Jo who runs the Academy is excellent, always willing to help anytime with any query is realistic with training and reassuring with all worries and problems.
Thank you Spencer for taking the time to write a review and your kind words.
Fantastic experience: We've had a great experience with Plymouth Vets' Puppy Academy: Toby, our baby Shih Tzu, loved spending time with other puppies and learning through play. Joanne leads the course really effectively for dog owners, too: we got plenty of advice during the virtual and face to face classes, not to mention via the group WhatsApp which provides long term support and stories from fellow owners. Having had a Shih Tzu previously who didn't attend classes like this, the difference in Toby's socialisation is noticeable. I'd really recommend this as the best start for any puppy.
Thank you for your lovely review. We are so pleased to hear Toby is enjoying the classes :)
Negative experience: What should have been a painless, quick experience for our 14yr old dog turned into 10 minutes of him crying and screaming. Lack of preparation made euthanasia for our family dog hell!
Fantastic experience: I have a nervous Chihuahua and he was looked after with understanding and compassion. It’s hard to trust other people with your pets but I fully trust this practice. Thank you everyone
Thank you for your lovely review Jo, best wishes :)
Fantastic experience: Excellent vets for an emergency visit. Thank you for your kindness and patience.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and your kind words. Best Wishes
Fantastic experience: For a dog to love their visit at a vets says it all, great service, friendly and helpful, and great attention to my dog who has to greet everyone.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review and your kind words. Best Wishes
Negative experience: Disgusting service we received, my kitten had been poorly for a few days, I understand we arrived 35mins before closing but the vets gave a 2min look over and gave a shot to him and sent us on our way. Didn’t even let us wait inside and left me and my poorly kitten in the cold. HE DIED THE NEXT DAY, the next day we took him to another vet where after X-rays was shown his organs were dying. He was put down the day after this awful practice didnt take any consideration of his health. We were charged £155 just for a 2min consultation where they obviously didn’t even look at him. Disgusting behaviour for a place that is supposed to help‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
We are sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction with the service and the loss of your beloved kitten. If you wish to discuss further please email [email protected].
Negative experience: Wouldn't trust this vet at all. Took my kakariki in as an emergency due to an injured leg caused by another bird and the vets opinion was pts. I then took him to a friend with an incredibly vast knowledge of birds who was able to amputate the severely broken leg and give appropriate care. This is my beautiful boy 4 days post op and doing great. A bird this vet was ready to euthanize rather operate. Only 1 star as Wouldn't let me rate 0
Please feel free to send an email to [email protected] to discuss this further should you wish to. We are pleased to hear your bird is doing well.
Negative experience: Honestly the worst vets In Plymouth absolutely crazy how stupid the staff are in this place! All the good vets have left to work at other practices do yourself a favour avoid this place like the plague! Overpriced (about 3x the price of any other vet in the city) and they definitely don't care about your animals!! After my mother died and inheriting her pets this vets caused nothing but a headache for me for over 2years! First problem took the dog in for some issues the vet took a look at her for all of 10seconds said "I don't know" and charged me £50 for that.. I took the dog elsewhere and she got diagnosed and treated immediately for less then the £50.. no problem il register the dog to the other vets from now on.. Then I take my cat in to these for flea treatment shes well over due for everything at this point as I'd dropped the ball after my mum's death These lot refused to treat my cat at all wouldn't even look at her unless I gave them a death certificate which I had lost and is a long wait for a replacement! Despite not needing it for the dog, living at the same address, and having the same name.. and the cat clearly in need of some help they point blank refused to do anything. Tried this a few times over several months cat just getting worst and worst at this point same result point blank refused to do anything with my cat or even look at her so time to transfer her then. Took my cat to a different vets (same as the dog) they examined diagnosed and treated her immediately no questions asked and we're shocked how this vet had refused and even wanted a death certificate.. it was clear the cat needed some help and they were there to help as vets have a duty of care! Something this vets seems to have forgotten a long time ago! the new vets.. requested the info of my cat these lot refused to pass on my cats details due to data protection..eh? Your refusing to transfer medical records to another vets?! Well turns out my new vet actually used to work here and fills me on what a mess the place is (which should be pretty obvious by this point) and explains I will have to go in and resolve this in person due to mass incompetence. I go in to resolve this face to face my cat needs some help and all this place wants to do is anything but their job and help my animal.. it takes an extremely heated conversion for the vets to FINALLY play ball but not before they threatened to phone the police over me trying to get my own data on my own animal to people that actually want to do their job! Again I transferred the dog no problem but they refuse the cat due to data protection? Was my dog not covered under data protection? Or did you actually breach data protection? Or are you just being awkward for the sake of it? or actually is it just pure incompetence? Because there is no other options left here!? your all either thick or you just broke the law you were shouting so much about! All while doing absolutely nothing for either animal every time I walked in! Again still never been asked for everything you required from a single other practice all have been genuinely shocked by you requesting a death certificate and refusing treatment every other vet has bent over backwards to help and care for my animals except this place! And the stupid thing is I never even brought in a death certificate after all that I brought in a random bit of paper I printed off the internet and it worked If you want substandard practices at inflated prices this is the place for you!! come on down to incompetence incorporated and get ripped off today! If your lucky we might have a clue what we are talking about but odds are we will just make it up! And don't even get me started on the threatening letters to my deceased mum about dying before making it so they were in profit on the pet plan she had one treatment to many and boy they were not happy about it. Do yourselves and your pets a favour just go some place else.. this money pit will just bleed you dry and gaslight you about it the whole time 0/10 wouldn't advice a dead dog to use this vets
Feel free to send a formal complaint to [email protected], should you wish to discuss this further.
Positive experience: Sorry I put 1 star on wrong vets. It was meant to be for woodlands. My friend did use your vets and wished she had stayed, because her other vets she went back to caused her cat to suffer a horrible and painful last year of her life. I wrote I small review on correct one now. But I know she praised you up and you diagnosed her cat with hyperthyroidism when other vet practice didnt. You did regular bloods etc. But she regrettably went back to other vets because she had a vet she knew for years and could email her and felt communication was much easier. Sadly going back to her old vets meant they didnt want to test her bloods and her hyperthyroidism likely was bad by time she was finally got put down as the one test they did do apparently was double. Apparently her vet said not to alter dose and not to bother testing again. But that wasnt the worse part of her treatment, but she just told me that you were far superior to vets she went back to. Because she knew her vet over a decade, she fell for all her excuses and guilt trips. She says thank you and she hates herself for ever leaving your practice. So thank you from my friend, her cat and me.
Sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction with our service. We would appreciate some feedback, if you could send to [email protected].
Positive experience: Based on my experience with the puppy academy, this is a 5 star review, however I've had only limited experience with the vets so far. I've been to Lipson vets a couple of times and they've been fantastic and helpful. My initial phonecall is why I've dropped a star, as I wasn't really sure what I _needed_ to do when registering and the result was a vet appointment which I didn't exactly need. So essentially I was upsold unnecessary appointment instead of helping me understand more over the phone.
We are sorry to hear this Sam, please feel free to send your feedback to [email protected]. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review.
Negative experience: Very bad vets! Very costly and they haven’t got a clue most of the time been with them for 10 years definitely time for a change.. the amount of blood tests they have done unnecessarily as they know it’s my actual dogs medication that affects his liver to which they have never tried to reduce the dose even though that is what is meant to happen I have recently found out..
We are sorry you feel this way about the service you have received. If you would like to discuss this further please email [email protected].
Fantastic experience: We have completed the puppy academy and Jo was amazing. She’s really knowledgeable and always there to help with a variety of questions. The classes were so useful with socialisation and recall and other training. I would highly recommend joining it really made a huge difference with our puppy and his training and you get to meet so many puppies, what’s not to love
Thank you for your kind review Jemima. We hope your puppy is doing well :)
Best Wishes
Fantastic experience: The vet and nurses were all very kind and caring during my visit with my elderly cat.
Thank you for your lovely review. We really appreciate it.
Positive experience: People complain about the price, then make sure your pet is fully insured that way you don’t see the money as everything is sorted on there end. I would also suggest the kitten/puppy plan.
Thank you Paige for your kind words and review. What a beautiful kitten :)
Fantastic experience: Attended online and in person puppy classes with Jo. She is very professional, helpful and great with all of the dogs. I learned a lot in the classes, and am well on the way to having a well trained and well socialised border collie!
Thank you so much Joel for your kind review. We hope your puppy is doing well :)
Negative experience: Used this vets for years so expensive and trying to push medication on us constantly on recent health check dog was in pain all evening due to his constant pressing on her spine. Not sure I will be staying now
We are sorry to hear of this experience Tina, if you would like to discuss this further please email us on [email protected]
Fantastic experience: I have had an amazing experience with all at this vets even though I wasn’t registered with them they have really looked after me. Unfortunately my cat got ran over and passed away and the person who did this took her to this vets. So glad she did as my vets didn’t even care when I rang to tell them. I was kept up to date with everything and was allowed to visit my cat. They were so professional and helpful and really sympathised with me as it hit me hard I guess they go through this a lot. I had her cremated and only took just over a week and when I collected her they gave me her ashes with dignity and not in front of everyone which was lovely. I love the fact they got her paw prints and her hair along with a card. Thank you so much I would highly recommend this vets.
We are so sorry for the loss of your very loved cat. Our thoughts are with you at this incredibly difficult time. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, despite what you went through. Kind Regards
Fantastic experience: Spoke to the receptionist who deals with animal health certificates. In the end the company could not offer an appointment at the required time, but she was so helpful in advising me about the process and who else I could contact, which has ultimately led to us finding an appointment elsewhere and not having to cancel our holiday. Having spoken to lots of other vets practices to try and resolve the issue, I comparison to others she was so incredibly polite, non-patronising, helpful, and informative - we’re so appreciative, thank you!!!
Thank you Chris for your kind words and review. We are glad you managed to get it sorted with our help :)
Fantastic experience: Staff are so friendly and the waiting room is always clean and tidy. Staff are professional and loving to the animals.
Thank you for your lovely review, best wishes.
Negative experience: Called in and booked an appointment for a steroid injection to aid our dogs anxiety. When we arrived for the appointment, they had set out the regular injection our dog had already had a few days prior. We were told we had booked in for this injection when we had not. Waited 30 minutes to see the vet when we saw them we were told that they don't do steroid injections even tho we had been given one the year prior. We were then finally told we could have steroid tablets. Seems like there is a lack of communication between bookings and the veterinary team overall within this establishment. This is not the first time we have had issues with this vetinary. Only positive from our visit was that the vet was very thorough with our dogs general health check over.
Thank you for your review, we are sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction with our service. We are unable to discuss details in an open forum, but feel free to contact us on [email protected], if you wish to discuss further. Kind Regards
Fantastic experience: Jo was extremely helpful and is always there if I need anything with Bear. Great puppy classes, thank you Jo
Thank you for your review :) Best Wishes

Thank you Jane for your kind words and lovely review. We hope your dog is feeling better.
Fantastic experience: On Saturday 13th April 24 our elderly staffie, Jake, who has been part of our family since he was 8 weeks old, had to be put to sleep. Covered in lumps and bumps, blind and a little deaf, we kept him going as long as he was happy, eating and playing. On Saturday it became clear the time had come. I just want to say the staff at Colwill Road, receptionists, nurses and the vet were outstanding. Jake was eased out if his pain with care, professionalism and compassion. The vet was caring and sensitive both for Jake and my wife and I. They made a dreaded experience as compassionate and caring as possible. Thank you all. Dave and Heather.
We are so sorry to for the loss of your family member Jake. We hope in time you are able to cherish all those precious memories together. Thank you for your kind review at such a difficult time.
Fantastic experience: Really can not recommend Jo at puppy academy enough! Jo is a fantastic dog trainer and has helped me and my pup so much from both being nervous of other dogs to feeling much more confident to meet others! You can freely get advice from Jo who listens very well and always there to help! I have learnt so much from you about all things dog! Thank you Jo from myself and Dottie!
Thank you for your lovely review.
Fantastic experience: We have just completed puppy academy with Murphy, and Jo was fantastic! It’s a great environment to introduce your puppy to other dogs and get advice as a new dog owner.
Thank you for your lovely review. We will make sure Jo sees your lovely comments.
Negative experience: I don’t often leave reviews, but I feel it’s necessary to warn people of my bad experience. Belatedly, I have discovered that Plymouth Veterinary Group is part of Independent Vetcare Limited, which was investigated last year by the Competition and Markets Authority after they received “complaints about higher prices or lower quality services”. My own experience bears this out. I was charged about £150 for my first consultation and was informed my animal would need x-rays and a tear duct flush costing £500-£600. I arrived for the x-rays only to be told that the price was now £800-£1000 and the clinical director “could not recall” giving me the lower price. I decided I couldn’t go ahead. I have since found another local vet practice where I have paid £44 for the initial consultation and £180 for the x-rays and flush.
Hi Hope,
We are sorry you feel your experience was bad. We are unable to discuss specifics on a open forum, if you wish to discuss further please send to [email protected].
Negative experience: Charged nearly £300 for an emergency appointment, I understand out of hours fees but come on, to be told my dog didn't seem to have anything wrong and given a prescription for a tiny bottle of pain relief- they took my dog away and left me in the waiting room which I'll never let happen again. Members of family also had issues including a failed sedation for teeth to be taken out and nail clipping that resulted in cutting the quick- blood bath. Embarrassing! Money orientated.
Hi C W, we are sorry you feel we are money orientated- this makes us feel quite upset as we care so much about our work and our patients. An anaesthetic would have been needed for any teeth removal and unfortunately we are human and sometimes we do catch the nail quick. If you wish to discuss this further please email [email protected].
Fantastic experience: I used PVG extensively for 15 months. It was found my elderly cat had heart disease, kidney disease and hyperthyroidism. Im pastoral staff on the NHS i give service to the sick. I think carefully every day about service. At Estover we received the kindest most professional service at every stage of my cats illness up to and including his death. Plymouth vets is a business , in my experience staff manage to hide the fact.
Thank you Andrew for your kind review, we really appreciate it. Best wishes
Positive experience: The service was good however was quite expensive but I don't suppose it's any more expensive than others I phoned early Saturday morning and they were able to fit us in that morning which was I liked .There opening times are late on week days which also fits around my work which is also something else I like .
Thank you Nova for your review. Best Wishes
Positive experience: 2024: I think that they are on the expensive side these days which has prompted me to find another veterinary practice. I've always found the vets, nurses and reception staff caring and understanding, as well as skilled and knowledgeable. When I had to have a cat put to sleep they were absolutely fantastic and I'm truely grateful. I took my cat up today and as usual, wonderfull service and good treatment from the vet and supporting staff. I'm not sure if it's fair however, I've dropped one star due to the cost of the meds being expensive compared to what they are online (changed to 5* as I think it actually wasn't fair). But, I accept that money has to be made somewhere and occasionally they do little things that they don't specifically charge for too. Thank you to the vet who took care of Percy today, much appreciated!
Hi Chris, thank you for your review. We are very happy to hear that. However unfortunately we are unable to compete with online pharmacies due to our enormous overheads which enable us to stay open 24/7 should you ever need us. We ensured the team that saw you have received your thanks.
Fantastic experience: Cannot rate Plymouth Vet Group highly enough. Not only have they given amazing care to all my animals, when our cat was in the hospital they let my son (aged 6 at the time) deliver a card for him, and the little things like that make such a big difference. I have 2 dogs both of whom have done Puppy Academy with Jo and this is another fantastic service. Jo is so knowledgeable, easy to talk to, and gives great advice without ever making you feel like you're getting it wrong. Both dogs have really benefitted from it, as have I as an owner. All the staff are friendly, helpful and really seem to care about the animals! I wouldn't go anywhere else for any of my pets.
Hi Catherine, Thank you so much for your kind words and 5 stars. We really appreciate it! Best Wishes.
Negative experience: My cat needed eye drops for an infection. £48 for human eye drops which can be bought at a pharmacy for £14. Here's the Clinical Director's response to my complaint and my response back. You decide. Good morning Richard and thank you for the reply. Daisy's treatment has been fine; my issue is with your pricing for medications. If pharmacies can sell the exact same product for £14, and make a profit on that which they obviously do, then why can't you? Why do you need to charge £30 for a prescription at all? Why not provide it at £14? The suggestion is that it is simply profiteering. I told the vet when she was treating the cats that I was on a budget. The simple consequence of this is that a visit to the vet becomes unaffordable and issues such as Daisy's eye infection will go unnoticed and untreated. Which I would hope is the last thing you want. Lee Dear Mr Grant, Thank you for visiting the Estover Hospital yesterday. Your medication query has been passed to myself and my name is Richard Hazard. I am both one of the veterinary surgeons at Plymouth Veterinary Group and the Clinical Director. I am very sorry to hear of your concerns regarding Daisy’s treatment and hope to address this below. Chloramphenicol eye drops are human medications and, although they may be obtained over the counter for human use, cannot be purchased for use in animals without a prescription. The prescription of human medications to animals is done so via a legal system called the cascade and only vets registered with the RCVS may prescribe medicines under this legislative provision of the Veterinary Medicines Regulations. A written prescription, to allow the purchase of medications outside of the practice, is advertised in the waiting area and available on request. The current price for a written prescription is £30 and due to this it is our experience that purchasing Chloramphenicol eye drops outside of the practice is rarely cheaper. I hope the above helps to answer your concerns. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer a refund for refrigerated medications and I understand the returned item is being stored for you if you do wish to use this for future use. Yours sincerely, Dr Richard Hazard MA VetMB CertAVP(ZM) MRCVS Clinical Director Plymouth Veterinary Group
Negative experience: Took my elderly chihuahua to be put to sleep 3am out of hours. I’m not with these vets but all out of hours go here. £540 odd to have her to sleep and £390 for a tiny casket! Charged £60 for a consultation I never had.. just under £800 to have my girl pts and her ashes back Told I come and collect her ( her dead body) and take her to my vets if cheaper. We, no I don’t want to collect her frozen dead body in a bag! What sort of prices are this!! Disgusting!!!
Dear Clair, we are very sorry to hear about your chihuahua. We are sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction with our out of hours service. We are unable to discuss your concerns in an open forum but we would appreciate it if you could email us on [email protected] to discuss further.
Kindest Regards and best wishes.
Fantastic experience: Today we had to take our dog in after she had an accident. Absolutely spot on care, seen quickly, very understanding and informative, great care and the upshot is that my dog is now home. A previous visit a few years ago didn’t go so well and the difference now is remarkable. Well done to all of you there, Tidy Job
Thank you for your lovely review, Tony.
Negative experience: We made an out of hours appointment for our French bulldog who we thought was having a seizure we were advised the consultation would be £350 when we arrived we rang the bell and were told someone would be down shortly the lady that answered the door showed us into the waiting room she was not welcoming and not very friendly she looked tired like we had just woke her up and we wondered if we did. The clinician was also unfriendly and not welcoming. She listened to what we said and examined our dog she did not reassure him in any way she took his temperature something he has not had done before and was clearly anxious again no reassurance was shown our dog struggled a bit and she asked me if I could help I explained I suffered from chronic copd and as my wife was already holding and reassuring our dog she then called the nurse to help.(He's a French bulldog not a great dane) After she examined him she found he was in pain from a back injury and gave him 2 injections again no reassurance and did not in any way make a fuss of him. The attitude we recieved was one of inconvenience from start to finish I get it was early hours of the morning but that's why you pay for an out if hours appointment fee £350 We shouldn't have felt like we had got someone out of bed and caused them an inconvenience.Although we appreciate the diagnosis a little more compassion towards our dog and us would not have gone a miss.
Dear John,
We are sorry your dog has been unwell, we hope he is feeling better now. We are sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction with our out of hours service. If you would like to email us on [email protected] we could discuss this further.
Kindest Regards and best wishes.
Negative experience: We have been with this veterinary group for over 20 years with no issues but recently they seem to be understaffed, no vets available at the local branches and a deterioration in the standard of care, recently resulting in emergency treatment elsewhere for our pet. We have left and registered with another practice.
Dear Sally, We are sorry to hear you feel this way about the service you have received. Please feel free to tell us more by emailing us [email protected].
Kindest Regards
Negative experience: I honestly don't ever write reviews on places but if there was a option for no stars or minus they'd be getting that I've have pleasure of this vets regarding 2 animals that we're misdiagnosed and are no longer with us and even had the cheek to tell me ( we didn't get there soon enough unfortunately) even though 2 weeks previous to this we took the dog to them and we given pain killers and told to leave, was even asked to pay for my appointment before even seeing a vet. Then to add more salt to the wound I go to collect 1 of the animals ashes from then to find its missing his paw print castings and hair clipping , as we requested, to be told I'm sorry we've misplaced them and can't find them anywhere " we'll use this as a learning curve " I honestly couldn't believe what I was hearing All there after is money and not caring for the animal £300 for this £500 for that I left this place in 1st time nearly £1800 2nd time £1200 still without animals I obviously cannot speak for everyone's experience with them but mine was honestly shocking
Dear Lewis, we are sorry for your loss and dissatisfaction with our service, please feel free to email us on [email protected] if you would like to discuss this further.
Kindest Regards
Fantastic experience: Found a stray dog late on a Friday night and needed the chip checked to help find the owner. They were so helpful, couldn't have done anymore for us. Thank you for caring, it's shame we couldn't find the owner, but it certainly wasn't from the lack of trying.
Dear Andy,
Thank you so much for your positive review and for bringing the stray dog into us to try and reunite them. We really appreciate it!
Kindest Regards and Best wishes.
Fantastic experience: So very understanding friendly at estover as this has been a terrible year with my partner recovering from cancer, losing my two girls in 6 weeks now I have Charlie who is ill. . Don’t do what I did disappear and worry about funds for my pet even I have insurance still have to find a bit of money they will help find away to help.. Thanks again so understanding. They have looked after all of my furry friends. Enclosing photoes
Dear Jayne,
Thank you for your lovely review and photos! We loved looking through them. We hope Charlie is doing well at the moment. Kindest Regards and best wishes.
Fantastic experience: We always feel in safe hands with Plymouth Veterinary Group - skilled, caring staff, great service all round. The Pet Health Club makes routine preventative care easy, with regular reminders. Communication in general is very good. Most importantly, they have just taken excellent care of my little dog during knee surgery. Thanks to all for making it a gentle experience for us all.
Dear Sorcha,
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us this lovely review. We hope your dog has recovered well.
Kindest Regards and best wishes
Fantastic experience: Every time I call, I talk to a polite receptionist and when entering the building we are both welcomed and everyone at the vets are kind and very friendly, especially to Peanut
Dear Tracey,
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us this lovely review! Kindest Regards
Fantastic experience: We recently took part in the Puppy Academy classes run by Jo. Jo is such a lovely lady with a wealth of knowledge and experience. The classes have supported us to give our puppy a great start in life. Support doesnt stop at the end of the classes either as Jo also provides the opportunity to join a whatsapp group chat with herself and other puppy owners to share experiences, ask questions and support each other. This has proven to be a very valuable resource. We highly recommend Jo and the Puppy Academy to anyone with new puppy's.
Dear Louise,
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us this lovely review! We are so pleased you value our puppy academy.
Kindest Regards and Best wishes
Positive experience: "I got very good service from them! On the 13th of July 2023, I had a very sick parrot named Tinkerbell. I made an emergency appointment and was seen right away. I loved this, I was very upset as the only option presented to me was euthanasia of my 12-year-old parrot, who had a stroke and was unable to survive along with other ongoing problems that weakened her. I asked if we could have her ring back, which was a little thing on her leg that identified her, but they said no, I was very confused by this as it is easy to remove the ring, but somehow this violated the policies in place? I just wanted the ring to remember her by! And turn it in to some jewellery! Later, looking back on this situation, I was puzzled as the vets are really kind people to the animals but cold and distant to the pet’s owners! I got a "you don't understand how to care for this animal" vibe from the vet treating Tinkerbell. This was evident when In my sadness and grief I said “You aren't supposed to die you were supposed to live to 80” I said this to tinkerbell the parrot the vet then said that “only parrots with perfect care live that long” in a mocking tone. I didn't register this at the time but my sister did and told me on the drive home! I love the care for the animals and have an education in animal care and welfare! I do wish they could be more empathetic to the owners of some of the animals and be more understanding to the owners of the animals instead of judgmental In the end, I did get tinkerbell cremated, and she is now home as of July 21st." Good service over all all would only recommend as a last resort!
Thank you for taking the time to write this Lou, we really appreciate any constructive criticism on how we can improve our service. Your situation with Tinkerbelle is something we will take a further look into, and we are very sorry for your loss.
Negative experience: Terrible Doctor in there. Didn’t do their job right. Really left a bad taste in my mouth. Will never go back. Genuinely shocked someone in this vet should be dealing with animals when they don’t do it right or by the book. Following procedures correctly and checking everything over to make sure the animals are healthy. You would think they would do this. But they can’t even do that. Being condescending to their customers too! Quite unreal! Don’t go to these vets!
Hi Mitchell, thank you for taking the time to bring this to our attention, we would really appreciate the opportunity to be able to look into it further. Please email us [email protected] to tell us more, we hope to reach a resolve.
Fantastic experience: Jo was absolutely fantastic. I learnt so much from her puppy classes and would reccomend her services for anyone with a new puppy. The classes were so fun and friendly and my puppy slept so well after. Thank you so much for your help and support.
Thank you so much Clare!
Fantastic experience: Excellent caring staff from reception to vets, explained everything so we could understand and kept us informed by phone of our dogs wellbeing throughout the day and night he was admitted. Would highly recommend using the Plymouth Veterinary Group as your first port of call.
Thank you Sue, that's lovely :)
Fantastic experience: We have been clients for 15 years. We lost our girl 18 months ago and the kindness, understanding and sympathy we received was above and beyond anything that We could have expected. Made coping with our loss so much more bearable. We have a lovely new girl now. A beautiful Jack Chi who we adopted at 8 weeks old. We joined the Pet Club and entered Bonnie into the Puppie Academy run by Joanne Pogson. What a woman! What knowledge and kindness. Without her help we would never have succeeded with Bonnie's training. She was there at every stage. She trained us into being good parents and Bonnie into being a well adjusted though mischievous pet. Nothing was to much for her. When Bonnie ate stuff that could harm her Joanne was just a call away always giving the right advice and reassurance. Behavioural problems were all solved with great understanding. Really, what Joanne doesn't know about dogs doesn't exist. Visits to the surgery at Estover have been always met with great professionalism and utmost understanding. We have always been given treatment options and costs so we could decide on the treatment options. Bonnie ate quite a few poisonous substances and each time help was Immediate upon arrival. The vets and nurses are so good in handling Bonnie's needs making her feel comfortable in their care and making us feel reassured that she was very safe in their hands. Would I ever consider another practice? Absolutely not. Being insured we don't count the cost, that's what a good insurance covers and takes that worry away.
Thank you so much, Mark! That was truly wonderful to read. We are sorry for your loss but thrilled to hear that you have found love again with Bonnie.
Fantastic experience: Scooby enjoyed his first vet trip and very much enjoyed the treats. Everyone was warm and welcome g. The vet listened to my concerns and advised my on everything from how to help to insurance.
Thanks Isobel! We are glad to hear that Scooby enjoyed his first visit :)
Fantastic experience: Recently moved here and had a first visit to see the nurse with our dog. She was so friendly and positive, really relaxed which helped our dog put up with having her AG’s expressed! Will feel comfortable coming here again in the future
Thank you so much Rosie, that is lovely to hear.
Fantastic experience: Very happy with the vets, always helpful and caring. We’ve just completed Puppy classes with Jo and can’t thank her enough for all the advice and support. Max really enjoyed the puppy socialisation at Central Park. Would definitely recommend the puppy classes with Jo’s support for any new puppy owner.
Thank you for the positive feedback Lindsey!
Fantastic experience: We were treated with kindness & concern from the initial telephone call & through to appointment following our cat's car accident. Best clinical options & possible outcomes explained clearly, costs honest. Estover reception staff especially lovely. Thank you.
Thank you for taking the time to give us this feedback, Juliet.
Fantastic experience: The staff at Plymouth Veterinary Group are always so kind and reassuring, to our pet of course, but also to us worried humans! They are efficient, attentive and thorough and I highly recommend them - I have been to Lipson, Plymstock and Estover branches and its the same everywhere.
Thank you, Tammy! That is wonderful :)
Fantastic experience: Nellie recently graduated from the Puppy Academy and we cannot recommend Jo enough. She’s great with all the pups and has a lot of patience when teaching them new things. She provides ongoing support which continues even after the pups have graduated and is only ever a text away if you need anything! Thanks Jo
Thanks Amber, we are pleased to hear you both enjoyed Jo's classes :)
Fantastic experience: I had to bring my ragdoll kitten to this vet I believe he had a fit. I was extremely surprised at the service I recieved . They rushed my baby straight in no hesitation . They were thorough quick and extremely open about it . They do an amazing job I would recommend this practice to everyone they are amazing . Luckily enough my didn't need treatment I believe he had a fit or a bit of sun stroke . But no medication was needed. But he could have and I thank them so much for just being there to help my baby if he needed it Thank you with all my heart
Thank you for your lovely feedback, we are glad to see that your kitten made a full recovery.
