Negative experience: Wrote a review before but it’s been taken down. My bunny had a gut appointment on the 01/05 and nothing was done and I was charged £68 and he died on 05/05 my way to moulton emergency. I saw Laura at Rhodes and all she cared about is money, so insensitive and not sure why she does the job if she lacks empathy and doesn’t really care about animals. They’re supposed to be professionals, they know what they’re doing and all for money only! She didn’t offer me a refund after the lost of a beloved pet so made a complain and this is what the clinical director said.. At the time of the consultation, the main concern was that Mr Grey was not himself, he was losing a bit of weight and not eating as many treats/vegetables. My colleague performed a full physical examination and there were no obvious abnormalities detected at the time of examination. During the appointment, it was discussed the possibility of performing some blood tests, but it was decided to monitor the situation at that point, given the fact that Mr Grey looked healthy on examination and his clinical signs at the time were mild. Many times, minor issues are self-limiting, and it is better to be conservative as rabbits are very fragile, and any intervention causing stress can trigger serious complications. Collecting blood samples can be challenging and is not well tolerated by these patients. Imaging techniques such as ultrasound are often of limited use due to the high presence of gas in the gastrointestinal tract and radiography requires at the very least some degree of sedation which can be life threatening on its own. Rabbits have a higher complication rate than other species when having sedations or anaesthetics, including death. Sadly, during the days following your initial visit to us the situation did not improve and Mr Grey passed away 4-5 days later. It is difficult to say if the outcome could have been different had we seen Mr Grey back a few days later. Regrettably, it is not unusual for rabbits to suffer from sudden death since, being prey animals, they hide evidence of illness quite well. I can see from the out of hours notes that the reason for his passing was strongly suspected to be gut stasis. At the time of our examination, this was not considered an issue as Mr Grey was still eating and passing normal stools and he did not present bloated or painful in his abdomen. Gut stasis often develops as a consequence of some other underlying condition. Having reviewed the case myself and discussed it with the colleague that saw you and Mr Grey, I am satisfied that our management of his care was entirely reasonable and appropriate and, for that reason, trust you will understand why I consider a refund of fees is not warranted. I cannot finish this email without mentioning your review on google about our services, particularly your strong comments about our colleague. We completely understand how heartbroken you must feel after the loss of your beloved pet. However, we feel it is not justified to be so offensive towards one of our very experienced and caring veterinary surgeons. We do care for every single patient we take care of. Losing a patient is not easy for us either. No matter how long you are in this profession it does not get easier when things go unexpectedly wrong. The advice our colleague gave you following the assessment of Mr Grey was based on the clinical findings at the time of the consultation. Advice was given with the best of intentions and based on the clinical findings at the time. Such strong and disrespectful comments from your part are totally out of order. Making these types of comments in social media can cause significant mental health issues to professionals that only try to do their best every day. We don't tolerate this from any client towards our staff, so we agree with you that our professional relationship should end here. I hope this addresses your concerns and explains our position. I’ve been taking my kitten here for the last 6 months and have nothing but positive things to say - about both the receptionists and vets. All so lovely and welcoming. My kitten, Mylo, got neutered and microchipped today. Arthur was so helpful and reassuring throughout the whole process.

Fantastic experience: Our cat Tigga became very unwell with breathing difficulties and loss of appetite and was seen by Melissa. She immediately arranged a blood test and x-ray which confirmed Tigga was very unwell with a substantial amount of fluid in his chest, compressing his lungs. Melissa arranged a specialist ultrasound vet to visit in the evening outside of normal working hours to assist with diagnosis. She clearly, but compassionately explained the risks of what we might find and also the risk of the actual procedure. She encouraged us to visit Tigga in late afternoon, and this confirmed our resolve to continue. When the phone rang at 8.15pm we were prepared for the worse, and were amazed to hear Melissa advising us that Tigga was awake and they had removed 300ml of fluid from his chest. This was sent off for analysis - but Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) was strongly suspected - confirmed some five days later. We picked Tigga up later that night and arranged to start his 84 day course of anti viral treatment. The level of commitment Mellissa showed to stay and treat Tigga beyond opening hours was outstanding. The reception staff and nurses were also compassionate and sensitive to us when it looked like Tigga might not make it. He is now a week into his FIP medication and is doing really well with his weight gain and general condition. It's early days, but we are hopeful and grateful for the excellent care Tigga received.

Fantastic experience: Used this Vet's practice for a few years now and no problems. Staff friendly and helpful and the Vet's give good advice. You can order repeat medicines over the phone, also if you are part of the pet plan you will get reminders on your mobile for check ups and when flea treatment etc is due. Highly recommend.

Negative experience: My dog started losing weight realized in august went from 45kg june 38kg august 34kg then 32kg by the time she went for ultasound she was 28kg not that these vets seemed to take any notice.my labrador had injection for arthritis 24 september they could see how much weight she had lost all they seemed intrested in was this injection.when my labrador was in hospital when they finally found out she had diabetes one of the vets asked about my labrador and said well shes got alot of things going on when she should of said best luck with everthing.they putting a downer on your pet.they have got some very rude people working there have no compassion .the nicest people that work there are the reception staff.i will never set foot in that place again.very bad experience that will haunt me for the rest of my days.my beutiful girl is not with us now she has passed away and she had been going to this vets for 10 years .no message no card to say sorryfor your loss .someone warned me the other week and said all they want is your money so that is so true.she was let down by these vets as they knew a test came back last year that wasnt right and they never said anything till 11 months later.now biggest regret of my life taking taking my beutiful girl to this vets.message then sent about looking into my concerns you should of been concerned when the test came back slightly high last year it should of been investigated then but no vet even spoke about it till september this year .so i would definatly say she was let down by these vets after going there all these years.as i put earlier in my reveiew biggest regret of my life taking my beutiful girl to these vets and this will haunt us for rest of our lives.i would definatly not reccomend this place to anyone knowing how our girl was so let down.pain everyday for us because she was let down.

Negative experience: My experience has left me shocked. 10 mins cost a bit more money than I get for a week. A consultancy, a worming tablet and a 7 sachets of a canine probiotic. I won't be able to visit them again as I don't have the money in my life. I'm left shocked but on retrospect not really suprised

Negative experience: I was a bit in the brim of writing this review. We’ve been coming to Rhodes with our Frenchie for a really long time and we absolutely love the ladies that have been looking after our boy. However, when it mattered the most we were really let down :( right before Christmas we came for an emergency appointment with all of (what I now know but didn’t at the time) IVDD symptoms. Our poor pup was in so much pain and we were just sent home with a soft tissue bruise!!!!!! And I’m saying it again…as a vet, with the symptoms that we came in and especially that it is a Frenchie, it screamed IVDD!! We have done our research now and know what the early symptoms are, however, the guy that checked our pup was slightly dismissive and did not take it seriously. I get that it was right around Christmas and everybody was a bit more relaxed and in a Christmas spirit. However we almost lost our beloved pup because of this. Our dog absolutely loved all of the vets that we’ve been going to so far, but I’m not sure I can trust the clinic now :( Thank god we had the emergency vet at VetsNow that have quickly reacted to his illness and he has now been operated and slowly recovering.

Their vets give different opinions on the same thing (my dog has cherry eye - 1 vet said it's fine till he show it's annoying him by clawing at it etc the other said no it needs to be dealt with asap as if left can be a bigger issue.. and this was their 'Senior' and 'Head Vet'). I also feel these people are not only, but mainly about the ££ and not actually helping people. Just avoid, there are much better vets out there.

Negative experience: Rang them today to book an appointment and 3 years later they still want you to wear a mask in consultations. Unprofessional and pedantic, move on......

Fantastic experience: Found a stray dog . They took it in and cared for it and scan for a microchip. Fortunately I found the owner and she went collected him . Very professional and friendly staff. Would recommend 100%.

Fantastic experience: Rhodes vets have always been brilliant with our cat. They have managed to book us in for same-day appointments, where needed, and for our cat’s routine injections. It is clear the staff care a lot about the animals they look after.

Negative experience: I had the most worst experience in my life at this vets few years ago, affected my life for 10 years thanks to them never ever I will have an pet/animal in this country, honestly very bad vets I can't recommend it to none, and always I advice all my friends to not attend Rhodes vets. I swear to God never ever I had that bad experience in my life.

Fantastic experience: My cat was unfortunately knocked over. He was taken to Rhodes as it was the closest to where he was found. Even though this isn’t my usual vet practice the service I received from them was superb; from the original call to let me know he was there and had passed, through the cremation process and collection. They really cared and absolutely went the extra mile to make things as easy as possible for me in a sad situation. Thank you on behalf of both Munchkin and myself.

Negative experience: I am very dissatisfied with the services of this clinic. I will never visit again or recommend to others. A clinic that charges for services not performed. It takes payments every time, no matter if you were there yesterday or a month ago, for the same. They use the opportunity to charge each of you and your pet!!! They don't care what happened and how much it costs. After all, you pay for everything!!! All the post-Brexit vaccinations for your pet to go abroad is just emptying your wallet! All these services are just a cash grab. They create false stories about taxes introduced by the government, but are you believe is it true???!!! 170 pounds for the sheet of paper? And for every each trip required new one!!! Do you understand what a madness??? I found so many similar reviews...

Fantastic experience: We lost our cat, Aslan on Friday. The vet we saw was absolutely fantastic. Comforting and reassuring. Today we arrived with our old terrier girl, JD. They forwarded the appointment because of our concerns and the gentleman we saw was very prompt in his investigation. Answered absolutely every question we had and advised on many other things that we queried. They did a speedy blood test to establish where to start treatment. She improved not long after arrival. Hands down the best veterinary practice in Northampton. Open and honest. Thank you so much to all of the staff. We’d be lost without you and our fur babies.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely fantastic service. After being let down by another local vet, I called Rhodes at 6pm in a right state as thought my cat was really ill and couldn’t be seen. The lady who answered the phone was incredible and booked me in straight away! A vet even came from another practice across town to see my cat and gave her a clean bill of health. I was incredibly anxious and Rhodes Kingsthorpe have really made my mind at rest! Incredibly lovely staff and very reasonable too. Was sure I’d have to pay an emergency fee but no! I will always bring my baby girl here now. Thank you.

Negative experience: The services are good, but expensive and, sadly they don't communicate with me. I have got the unpleasant surprise that I had to pay over 110£ for two injections but I was not told in advance about the price and what was wrong with my pet (because it was an emergency). I went there myself, when on internet I have seen vets provide home services too for emergencies. Lack of information and communication. I still don't know what was wrong with my pet.

Fantastic experience: Struggled to find a vets practice that would register our 8yr springer, as most would only take puppies. This was our first visit with our dog, very friendly and informative vet. No hesitation in going again or recommending to someone else.

Negative experience: I bought my cat in today. Now the Vet was lovely no faults at all. My argument is the fact I got charged £56.85 when I walked into the vets room I said that his wound had healed so didn't need a consultation just his claws clipping which should of been £16. 70 which is fine. Why did I have to pay more when I clearly said just claws cut. Now I have no money for the rest of the week as that was my emergency money. I don't work as I take care of my Mum as she is disabled. I don't get alot of money. I'm angry as it's left me short. I have decided I won't be coming your vets anymore if your going to charge for things I didn't ask for. Then as was paying the receptionist was trying to tell me I owe more money from a past consultation. I am not happy with this service at all.

Fantastic experience: Very helpful staff, usually managing to fit in an appointment same day for our elderly cat. The Vets have always taken time to give our cats a health check and to provide valuable advice.

Negative experience: Brought my cat in to be neutered and he peed in the cage on the way to the vets and panicked so he splased wee everywhere and was covered (including the leash). I told the vets what had happened and they told me if be alright and that they would give him a little wash. When they rang to tell me he's ready to be collected I asked if the lead was dirty or if I need to buy a new one. They said the leash was all good and not to worry. When I got home with him and took him out of the cage he was covered in a pungent smell of urine and the leash was wet and stinking of urine. Very disappointed. Price for the neutering was great and staff was lovely on the phone and face to face.

Negative experience: Saw Melissa today at the Rhodes Kingsthorpe. She didn't know exactly what the issue was so suggested a blood test as a first step. I asked how much she had to look it up on the computer and I was told no more than £130.00 but reception would confirm it. Agreed to this plan and went to pay and was charged £97.27. Just before 7pm, the Clinical Director called to say we owe them another £70.00 as we were charged incorrectly because of a computer error. She also said that they would do nothing with the blood until we paid the additional money! No apology, just a very aggressive, rude, obnoxious women! She also completely took it for granted that we had the funds to pay. For some people the cost of treatment at the vets is a consideration as to what route you take. This is not an acceptable way to do business. If you make a mistake then you put it right for next time. Your can't expect the client to pay for your mistakes!!! It's your responsibility as a business to conduct your business in a professional manner and for fees to be transparent. We will not be returning to Rhodes vets again. You may care about your animals but your certainly didn't care how you treated their owners.
