St James Veterinary Group Parkway: Reviews
Fantastic experience: the vets at St James Parkway always seem devoted to getting your pet well and interested in hearing what has gone wrong. Such a reassuring experience. Everyone is so friendly there.
Fantastic experience: Great veterinary practice very professional and great service
Fantastic experience: I recently had to have my springer spaniel Harvey put to sleep he led a full and happy life for 16 years, thank you to the lovely vet Ellie, for your kindness and compassion.
Negative experience: I used this vets since 2000 and found them to be amazing. However, the quality of care they provided over those years has dropped. A lot of them are cold and they have caused deliberate suffering to pets that I have had particularly Steele. I will go into details at some point on here cos I believe that my babies stories deserve to be told. But for now I just want led to give a warning about how disgusting some of these of the vets they employ are. They’re money hungry. The managers don’t care either, I’ve made complaints but it gets ignored. They are sorry that the customer is unsatisfied with their service, they do not pride themselves on quality of care, they’re just sorry that people can make public statements about them.
Fantastic experience: I want to express my thanks for the care and compassion shown to me and an injured bird I brought to the practice today. I am not from the Swansea area. The Receptionist was excellent confirming an appointment. The Nurse I saw was so caring. I then rung for an update and again another Receptionist was informed and efficient. I even received a call out of hours from the Practice with a further update. It’s so refreshing to come across such a caring practice - thank you to all.
Negative experience: TRIED TO KILL MY CAT if i could give it 0 stars, i would. a few months ago my very elderly cat was snatched from the garden and eventually handed in at this St James location. the vet that took care of him was called Fran i believe, she was very blunt and had a blatant disregard for me and my family’s emotions as we were extremely worried and scared about what had happened to our cat and instead of giving us the time to process the situation she repeatedly told us that our only option is to either A) leave him in overnight which would of been costly £££ or B) put him down as he was not in a fit state to go home and it was time to say goodbye. they hadn’t actually done any proper tests but we were told he could have cancer, kidney failure and lots of other scary diseases with no real basis to make these claims. we said we wanted to take him home and putting him down after a very stressful day for him isn’t morally right and she kept relentlessly attempting to convince us that putting him down was the best option, in my opinion, a poor attempt at a quick cash grab. she did not have my family or my cats wellbeing at heart. I am so thankful that i stood my ground and took my baby home as since then he’s had his 19th birthday and in the best state he ever had been in this latest stage of his life. we scheduled a checkup within a few days after from another St James Vets location as this lady made a welfare claim as she thought we were mistreating him, in my opinion in retaliation to us not listening to her, and the second vet said he was perfectly fine and had no doubt we looked after him greatly. i really disagree with this culture within St James Vets that thinks it’s acceptable to manipulate vulnerable people into spending more and more money by misleading them
Fantastic experience: Always top quality service from St James Vets. The kindness and care we have received over the last 4 months in particular has been exceptional
Negative experience: I am disappointed and discusted with st james veterinary hospital!! Last week I had a consultation for my small dog for an extraction, and was quoted £1130 +£60 consultation fee, i have since been to another recommended vet who has given me a quote of £610 worst case! Why are these vets allowed to rip people off. I am considering getting in touch with the fca!!!
Fantastic experience: With the recent passing of Poppy, our 19 year white cat who spent all her time with us as a devoted companion we regrettably came to that point we all dread of taking our beloved pet to the vets that final time. We saw Gregg Evans at Parkway and he was kind, respectful and totally professional and understanding. With plenty of time to process the situation I made the difficult decision. We arranged for an individual cremation. We received her in a very thoughtfully presented urn which brought a lot of comfort to this painful process. Would highly recommend this practice.
Fantastic experience: Went above and beyond to help. 5 star service. Thank you for helping the local fox tonight.
Negative experience: I can't put in to word how awful this vets is. It's all about the money.
Fantastic experience: I took my dog Buster in as his ear was all torn the reception staff were always amazing kind and friendly and the vets and nurses were all amazing Buster was well cared for and you could tell they all loved and cared for animals and also their owners. Thank you all so much what an excellent friendly and caring team
Negative experience: I brought a stray cat to this clinic in critical condition — with pus in his mouth, difficulty breathing, and severe dehydration. I truly hoped he would receive proper care. The cat was left at the clinic, but I have since been denied any information about what happened to him. I am not the legal owner — because this was a homeless animal. But I am the person who rescued him, fed him, transported him, and cared for him. I deeply care about his wellbeing. I sent an official request, simply asking for: Confirmation that the cat was registered in the clinic's system; Whether any treatment was given; What happened to him afterward. But I was told that no information can be shared. No transparency. No compassion. No answers. I am not asking for confidential medical records — only basic facts about a living being I tried to save. It breaks my heart to think that he might have simply been turned out onto the street again. This is my personal experience — one of deep sadness and disappointment. I urge the clinic to reconsider how they communicate in cases involving vulnerable, voiceless animals. Sometimes, a little clarity and empathy could save a life — or at least bring peace to those who tried.
Negative experience: I have been a long-standing client of St James Vets, and while I have always appreciated the care provided to animals, I feel compelled to share a recent concern regarding the pricing of repeat prescriptions. Over the past several months, I have noticed a consistent and unexplained increase in the cost of a particular prescription for my pet. To clarify the situation, I contacted the manufacturer directly, who confirmed that there has been no increase in their pricing. This strongly suggests that the incremental costs are being introduced solely by St James Vets. There has been no communication or justification for these repeated hikes—no explanation regarding operational changes, sourcing difficulties, or inflationary pressure. It gives the impression that these increases are being made arbitrarily, and regrettably, it seems to reflect a shift in priorities toward profit rather than client transparency or animal welfare. While I understand veterinary practices are businesses, there is a line between sustainability and opportunism. Sadly, this experience has left me questioning whether St James still values its clients and their trust as much as it once did. #Cold&Callous #MoneyHungry
Fantastic experience: My French Bulldog recently underwent BOAS surgery with Geraint Jones, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From start to finish, Geraint was absolutely incredible—not only with my dog but also with me. I was quite nervous about such a big procedure, but the level of care and support we received was truly second to none. He did a fantastic job. The entire team, from the veterinary nurses to the reception staff, was equally amazing—so kind, supportive, and reassuring throughout the whole process, especially during the aftercare. Any time I had a question or concern, my calls were met with warmth, compassion, and expert advice. I couldn’t recommend this team highly enough and am beyond grateful for such a positive experience. Thank you all for taking such wonderful care of my dog and for making a nerve-wracking process so much easier!
Negative experience: My wife and I brought a deceased cat to the branch in the early hours of 8th March, after a friend had contacted us to say that he’d found the cat on his way home from the cinema, so we offered to help, as our friend doesn’t drive, and we didn’t want the poor thing to be left to the elements. Whilst at the branch, I completed a form with our contact details and was informed that the cat did have a microchip, so I asked if my wife and I could be contacted to let us know if an owner was found. They told us that they would be in touch with an update if they were successful in locating the owner. Fast forward to today - I called the branch this morning to ask if they’d been successful in locating the owner, as I’d obviously not heard anything so wanted to chase it up, and the receptionist told me that they don’t normally contact the person who brought the animal in. All I said in response was that they’d told me that they would contact me and when she said that they don’t do that, all I said was that they shouldn’t tell people that then. She had a right attitude with me about it, like I’d done something wrong, when all I was doing was questioning what I’d been told. She ended up telling me that the owner had been located anyway! What an appalling way to treat people when they’re just trying to help. It’s your fault at St James that you are giving people incorrect information. Why take someone’s details and say you’ll be in touch if that’s apparently not what you do? You need to retrain your front of house staff to not treat people like rubbish when they’re just enquiring based on information that you have told them! There was no apology that I had been misinformed. I’d give zero for customer service if I could and am considering pursuing a formal complaint.
Negative experience: Took my German shepherd on a Tuesday. Only for a spayed opp.they said its a straight forward half hour opp.not l9ng.i had take her next day to Morriston vet..and again the next day.and rush to the other sister vet.then I have call saying she died.heart breaking and I was told when I picked her ashes up.pay first.3.000 pound.no more than that omg she was my world she kept my parents alive this broke they heart.never again will I trust or listen to them.they are more interested in money. I'm so angry with them.never trust them always money
Negative experience: Be VERY CAREFUL about the chargers and costs they provide you with. Overall, we had a great experience with the doctors at the practice, up until our first serious procedure. The doctors seem very caring, animal-loving and attentive, but the practice itself feels either money-driven or extremely disorganized. We had our dog booked for the removal of a tiny breast mass, only a few millimeters in size, which was supposed to be accompanied by an x-ray of her hips since we didn’t want to put her under anesthesia twice. The vet assured us that this was completely doable. After picking her up post-mastectomy, we thought everything went according to plan. However, a few days later, when we called to inquire about her x-rays, the receptionist seemed confused. When we saw the vet for the removal of her stitches, we learned that the x-ray had not been done, supposedly because they ran out of time. The doctor we spoke with claimed that our dog was under anesthesia for about 3 hours, and any longer would not be safe (which is true, a dog should not be under anaesthetic for longer than 3h). She even asked us, "Would you prefer your dog to die for an x-ray?" However, that sounded a bit surprising to us, as one of us studied medicine, so we have a brief idea of how long a surgery like that should take. We also have several friends who are veterinarians, and they believe that removing one mammary gland should not take 3 hours. In fact, 3 hours would be more appropriate for the removal of a whole breast panel... After finding out that the x-rays were not taken, and the doctor posing a question of whether we'd prefer our dog to die, we were then told we would have to pay for anesthesia again to get the x-rays done. At that point, I wasn’t even that upset about paying again; I was mainly frustrated with the vet’s attitude and the fact that our dog would need another traumatic visit to the vet, which could have been avoided. We decided to proceed, and after raising our concerns, they assured us they would not charge us extra. Initially, we were meant to pay approximately £500-600 for the x-rays. On the day I dropped off my dog, a visibly stressed nurse presented me with a list of charges totaling approximately £1000. I was confused, but thought I might have misunderstood something. However, after discussing with my partner, we both agreed that we were only supposed to pay for the x-rays, not the anesthesia. I went back to the surgery, inquired about the cost, and found out that they had added extra x-rays without consulting us, essentially increasing the price to what we would have needed to pay for the entire procedure. I told them that I preferred to stick to the original treatment plan and didn’t need the additional x-rays. Ultimately, we paid the agreed-upon price, but if I hadn’t checked, I would have been significantly overcharged. Additionally, my dog returned from the x-rays visibly terrified and is now afraid of the vet, which was not the case before. Although the whole situation was solved rather amicably, I am leaving a review as I believe that other customers should be aware that they might potentially get overcharged. I think pretty much every vet I interacted with in this practice had the best interest of my animal in heart, but I am not so sure about the practice policies being the same? Still, it is a good clinic, so I'm not going to leave it one star, but leaving it low enough so other potential customers will read this.
Negative experience: Avoid this place like the plague! Do not trust these people, they pretend they have the best interest of our pets at heart and they have proven they do not. Unfortunately, they are more interested in profiting from whatever situation they can. Money is no issue but when they prioritise money over the health of a pet, that is when the line has been crossed. They look for the easy option to make as much money as possible. I truly thought these people had the best interests of our pets at heart and to warn you from experience they do not! Revolting and horrific service from an older lady receptionist that should not be allowed to issue pet advise. I do not think they realise that they have not obtained a veterinary degree and are a receptionist. Worst experience of our lives being apart of this practice. Deal with caution.
Fantastic experience: I would just like to say that when I arrived at Parkway and took Cooper and Spencer in we were greeted with a very warm welcome all the girls on reception were amazing , also Sheryl came to say hello to Cooper and Spencer and she was amazing with them both also would like to say 11/10 for the vet that we saw Lisa Jones was amazing , outstanding customer service and was amazing with Cooper and Spencer thank you all for what you all do , your practise is amazing and I will always recommend St James Veterinary Group , I am 48 years old and always brought my poodles to your practise also my mum has also and my mum is 74 years old and always brought her poodles there also , don’t change as your practise will go from strength to strength keep being amazing Craig and Matthew Swansea
Fantastic experience: I cannot recommend the St. James Veterinary Practice and small animal hospital at Parkway highly enough and, in particular, Rhian who looked after our dog Poppy for the last 10 days of her life before she crossed over the rainbow bridge. Rhian had the most caring of approaches and attitude to Poppy and also to my wife and I when we too needed significant emotional support during the hardest of 10 days imaginable. Rhian went out of her way to arrange to keep in contact with my wife and I on a daily basis and even rearranged some of her own appointments on some days to accommodate seeing Poppy and her doggy parents. When Poppy's time came, Rhian was there with us, making the entire process pain free and as dignified as possible for the three of us, even allowing my wife and I as much time alone as we needed to say our final goodbyes to someone who had been at the heart of our lives for 14 years. Rhian was absolutely amazing and will definitely be our "go to" vet when the time comes for us to welcome a new dog into our home. Thank you Rhian and all the staff at Parkway Veterinary Clinic, you are awesome!!
Fantastic experience: I cannot thank this practice enough! We had an emergency with our Leopard Gecko and we had an appointment instantly. The care was outstanding, treated her amazing, they are such a wonderful practice and we cannot thank them enough :)
Fantastic experience: Just want to say we lost our beautiful boy woody this evening which was heartbreaking and the vet Rhi-Anne was so kind , caring ,patient and considerate of our feelings she took care of him and us and let us have as much time to process what we were going through. He was looked after until it was time to say goodbye ❤️
Fantastic experience: Amazing at Saint James Vets especially vet Linsey who was so kind to my cat Theo. Another young vet can't remember his name saved my Oliver from a broken hip. And most recently for the care of a very poorly stray cat I put into their care You are all Angel's thank you ❤️
Fantastic experience: We took our beloved Pug for a second opinion after 6 whole months of diarrhoea and trying several different medications to no avail. Rhian and Ellie were beyond amazing! The kindness, empathy and sincerity in trying to find out the cause of his distress was more than I could have hoped for. Unfortunately, he cannot be cured but after a diagnosis the treatment and specialist food suited to his IBD and Enteropathy will hopefully mean our sweet, sweet boy will be in our lives a little longer and there is already a great improvement. I cannot recommend them enough. The best vets I have ever been to. Thank you so very much for helping our boy and lifting our deflated spirits!
Fantastic experience: Great service. Reception staff made us feel incredibly welcome.
Fantastic experience: Lisa Jones is always 100% dealing with my very nervy cat Trevor - he open mouth breathes when in - not today! Lots of patience, calm voice, cuddles and creamy dreamies and we got through with just a little bit of concern as to what was happening the other side of the door! Lisa is our go to vet for Trev - he even head bumped her on the way out today - high praise indeed
Fantastic experience: The staff were warm, welcoming and friendly. The vets were patient, kind and gentle. Paisley is a little nervous and they were just amazing. I wanted to ask a few questions and I didn’t feel like my appointment was rushed and they help me with my decision to neuter her. She was also very gentle giving Paisley her needle, she may be a bulldog but she’s a complete baby and didn’t bat an eyelid. Thank you
Fantastic experience: St James is such a beautiful place to take your pets none of us want to see our fur baby's get sick but one thing that makes you feel better is knowing that they are getting looked after by some caring staff and I must say molly has looked after lola our baby every time she as been to St James, thank you all for everything ❤️ X
Fantastic experience: Great first visit for a second vaccination with our 12 week old border terrier pup Frank. A really warm welcome that settled the dog & then an examination by Bryn the vet was outstanding. Frank had a very thorough MOT & was extremely calm during the process. Bryn also clearly explained the treatments Frank was having & what we needed to do to protect him in the next few weeks. We had already joined the vets tier 2 healthy pet club & had scheme discount on the bill. Thanks
Negative experience: I strongly discourage anyone from using St James Parkway, especially if you have an animal that isn’t a cat or a dog. We took our rabbit here at the urging of another St James vets branch as he was suffering with GI statis. We were told it would be £400 for one night hospitalisation, and that if the plan changed we would be rung immediately to inform us and for us to discuss further options. Not once did such a conversation occur, instead he was kept in for another night without us being contacted to discuss if this was our wishes. We were told on numerous occasions that a vet would ring us back in a certain timeframe, however we received no such call. We were told repeatedly that more important emergencies have come up and that our rabbit was less of a priority, hence why we were not contacted. While it is of course more than understandable that emergencies will arise in a 24 hour vets, perhaps it would be beneficial for the staff to consider not repeatedly making promises they cannot keep when the life of their clients pet’s are at hand. We were informed today (1/1/24) that our rabbit had taken a turn for the worse and the words “time is of the essence” were used to describe the situation. We contacted a specialist vets in Swindon who were more than happy to take our Charlie in, so we rang St James to inform them of the time we would be arriving to collect him to relocate him to the new vets. Half an hour after arriving, we were still sat waiting in the waiting room, with the very receptionist who told us “time is of the essence”. To add even further insult to injury, another client in the waiting room was engaging in a conversation with the receptionist about what she thought was her pet - until she was showed the carrier and it was revealed that it was our rabbit all along. If you are overrun to the point that you do not even know which pet is which, it might be time to start considering not taking on patients you are clearly not equipped to deal with. Googling “specialist rabbit vets Swansea” brings up St James’ which I could not disagree with more. Save yourselves 2 days hassle and £400 for nothing and drive 2 hours to Swindon to receive actual customer service and quality of care.
Fantastic experience: Took my poorly cat in as an emergency and the vet Gareth Field was outstanding. He was so kind and thoughtful as well as thorough and my cat was really cared for. It was all good news and whatever treatment he gave worked wonders. Thank you so much x
Fantastic experience: St james vets to me are very professional been going to this vets since 1983 when dave Roberts and Mr Jones where in the uplands surgery.
Fantastic experience: Thank you guys. Diolch yn fawr i Bryn who helped our cat out last night. She needed surgery and Bryn was excellent in all aspects. She has a lovely bunch of stitches on her paw and is recovering well. Very professional, very clear and a wonderful manner with our cat. Thanks
Fantastic experience: Absolutely brilliant!! We were on holiday here our dog was poorly, great reception staff and Elli the vet! They couldn't do enough to help us, our dog is 14 so it was a bit hit and miss xx
Fantastic experience: Fab service, very friendly team, made us very welcome and best of all took very good care of my kitten. Well recommended.
Fantastic experience: Great vets practice. The vet I see is Lisa Jones who is wonderful - really listens, spends time checking everything, explains things well and is extremely thorough.
Fantastic experience: Really impressed with St James VG. As a tourist with a lame dog, their service was super efficient. Within an hour of making the call we were registered ( lovely reception staff), seen and medicated. Vet was super helpful and lovely too. Great service. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: Very impressed with my experience of St James so far. After having some serious concerns regarding the treatment put in place for my guinea pig from a different vet I transferred to St James. The man who saw her for her appointment was very thorough in her care and explained all treatment options available, after opting for surgery, she was in pretty much straight away and was awake and recovering only a few hours later. The treatment she received was exceptional, and the lady who performed the operation and discussed after-care was amazing. I would highly recommend.
Negative experience: AVOID. The first thing this vets will ask you, is if you have insurance? The purpose of this is to see how much money they can extract from you and your insurer and your final bill. Secondly, they will then provide over inflated medication which you can buy for a quarter of the price anywhere else or online. It will all be under the disguise of your pets welfare and because you have an emotional attachment to your animal. It's a great racket they are running.
Fantastic experience: Excellent vet practice. The vets and all the staff are kind and caring. I have every confidence in them.
Fantastic experience: We recently had to bring our cat to St James Parkway Vet Hospital due to respiratory distress. Marie Claire was very patient and helpful in explaining the possible causes of his illness, and helped us to plan for our his admission and investigations. After admission under the care of Nicole and the nursing team we were kept informed and involved throughout, the team were so considerate. He was given oxygen by mask and fed intravenously. It was decided to place a chest drain under GA and this allowed a lot of water to be drained from his lungs. However his breathing got worse until he wasn’t breathing on his own. It wasn’t easy but all things considered we made the decision to let him go in peace while still under the general anaesthetic. The next day we met with Leanne the senior nurse who helped us to see Rico for the last time and to arrange for his cremation. She was so kind, patient and respectful. We want to thank all the staff at Parkway for helping us achieve the best care for Rico and us after he passed away peacefully.
Negative experience: Appalling service. Not interested unless you are happy to keep giving them money. Our dogs condition is not covered by his Insurance.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful vets. I wasn't registered with St james but they were able to see my hamster out of hours yesterday and they were so kind and helpful. Unfortunately my hamster passed as we arrived there however the kindness shown by the vet and receptionist will forever be appreciated. Thank you so much.
Fantastic experience: Lovely facility and very polite helpful staff. The two vets that dealt with me ( Imogen and Rhian) were both amazing at a very sad time for us. They tried everything they could to help our dog but ultimately things didn't go to plan. What really impressed me was the way they handled a very sad and awkward situation , we felt supported and cared for. Thank you St James team.
Fantastic experience: Amazing practice always a great service,so friendly, helpful staff and your pet is their first priority would highly recommend them
Fantastic experience: Fantastic vets! Thank you so much for seeing us on such short notice. On holiday and the dog takes poorly. Appointment for the following morning, I can complain at all. Excellent idea with the pagers, Mabel didn't have the chance to work herself into a state, walked straight into the vet to been seen. Marvellous idea. Vet actually managed to hear her heart, as she wasn't stressed out! No panting or holding her breath, her go to speciality, just to keep the vets on their toes. Again thank you so much for seeing her and thank you for putting my concerns to rest. 100% would recommend to anyone, tourist or local! Archie and Mabel send their thanks.

Vets are so busy at the moment, it was very kind of the staff to help us out at such short notice.
Fantastic experience: One year old German Shepherd stole a box of mince pies & ate all 6 + foil cases . Parkway out of hours vets were excellent...giving advice/recommendations over the phone. Took her in early hours of the morning...due to restrictions, I was not able to go inside the surgery, but while the medical procedures were going on, we were kept up to date in the car park. She made a good recovery, thanks to their prompt actions. Very grateful to all concerned.
Fantastic experience: My dog cut his paw on glass and they managed to see him same day and the vet (Rhian) was fantastic and great with him. Exceptional service.

Fantastic experience: Our beloved cat had to be rushed to the out of hours vets. He was very unwell and was struggling. The vet on call was absolutely outstanding. He was compassionate and put us at ease. He treated our cat with kindness. The receptionist was kind and very caring over the telephone when I rang to pay the bill. I can only say good things about the care and treatment our pets, especially our cat has received over the years. Thank you. I highly recommend St James to anyone who needs a vet.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely the best vets, couldn't be more kind or helpful.
Fantastic experience: As always, the best....just the best possible care for pets and their owners. Competent compassion. The staff on all levels treating each client as if they were the only clients in the world. Nothing is too much trouble. Excellent. Can't recommend this practice highly enough.

Positive experience: For a few months this year we had professional +truly caring service from them.In particular the vet who treated our cat, was unbelievable, I don't know how we would have coped without her at this time. I w
Fantastic experience: We had to rush our cat in as an emergency over the weekend and really can't thank the out of hours team enough. Bryn and Jenny, the vets, and the many amazing nurses who cared for our boy over the weekend were incredible. Their hard work, dedication and love for animals is clear to see. We really can't thank them enough for saving the life of our cat. They are a credit to the practice and we would definitely recommend St James vets.
Fantastic experience: Ella was lovingly taken care of after to much fun whilst on holiday. Staff all round were amazing. Thank you x
Negative experience: Sketty - I'll be honest in that my previous experience here was okay but today it was a shambles for some reason. The receptionist didn't give me an electronic beeper so I could be called when it was my turn, leaving me to wait outside for 30 minutes from my original appointment time before I had to go back in to remind them and to make sure they were aware that I had two appointments one after another for each dog. Within 5 minutes of me reminding them (told they knew I was there) a vet collected my first dog. Whilst the first was in there, I received a phone call advising me that I was 20 minutes late for my second appointment. I told them I was in the car park and the receptionist was aware I was waiting. My second dog who is pregnant was taken in for her scan, I had asked if pictures of the scan could be taken and the receptionist said they would ask. This is our first ànd probably only dog pregnancy we will have so are very inexperienced. I had called prior to ask questions and was told I could ask at the scan to save on cost of over the phone consultation. The vet came back with my dog to advise puppies are healthy and potential number. I asked for more info and the first thing the vet said is if she needs a c-section it will cost £2k which just made me feel like I was only breeding for money if I'm honest. I wanted to know more on the labour, when to wean, what additives etc to make sure my girl would be fine prior during and after, what the pups needed, checks etc. What is a puppy pack and what's included. The cost of a c-section is no problem if it keeps my girl safe. On top of that the vet said - don't think that far ahead until they arrive. Which I get but still it again made me feel like a scummy breeder. Both my dogs live together and are in our eyes a couple and family members. This is not my normal branch and will only return if an emergency demands it.
Fantastic experience: Great first experience and really good covid secure setup. Plenty of parking.
Fantastic experience: We very unfortunately had to take one of our cats for an emergency consultation on May day Bank Holiday. We were met at the door by the veterinary nurse who took the cat and checked all her vital signs until the veterinary had finished with the patient he was dealing with. After the consultation we decided that the best course of action was to let the cat slip away peacefully. The vet(Bryn) was very supportive and at no point wanted to influence our decision but completely understood and was very sympathetic. Even at such a sad time I would have no hesitation in recommending St James practice to anyone and would particularly like to thank Bryn for his kindness and understanding.
Negative experience: I lost my beautiful cat at the tender age of 5 years old, due to the incompetence of the vets at St James Veterinary Group. I came to the vets with my very unwell cat on two separate occasions before losing him, only to be told that my cat is fine and perfectly healthy, despite disclosing all very worrying symptoms, which should've been red flags to anyone working in healthcare (human or animal). The first time I took my Pedro to the vets, he was having regular coughing fits; I showed the vets video evidence of the coughing fits and they told me that he is perfectly fine. The second time I took my Pedro to the vets, he hadn't eaten anything, he had lost a considerable amount of weight, he was coughing, heavy breathing, fever, too weak to walk, no voice etc. The vet took him in and brought him out within 10 minutes and told me my cat was perfectly healthy and had lost the same amount of weight as he would if he had "done a big poo", and sent us away, telling us to come back at 9am the following morning to check if his fever had gone down. Please bear in mind, we paid £240 for this out of hours appointment. It was my impression that the vet simply could not be bothered to deal with my cat on his night shift. We took Pedro home and hoped he would improve overnight, but he did not. We brought Pedro back to the vets the following morning, not knowing that this would be the last time we saw him alive. We received a call from the vets, saying that my Pedro is seriously unwell and that he had a severe seizure and he might've suffered some brain damage. I was devastated. I had another call from the vets saying that Pedro had gone into cardiac arrest and that we might have to make that decision at 6pm when the vet finishes his shift. I refused to make my decision based on what time someone's shift finishes and I found this absolutely appalling, especially as they pride themselves on being the only 24/7 vets in Swansea. The vet told me that I would have to make my decision by bedtime (so that the night staff can have a good night's sleep, I'm guessing). I believe that my Pedro could've been saved, if it wasn't for the obvious negligence and incompetence that St James Veterinary Group displayed. Do NOT take your pets here.
Fantastic experience: We’ve used St James for over 20yrs and they’ve always been excellent. We recently had our 14yr old dog put to sleep and the Staff were amazing. They dealt with us all with such dignity and care. They made an immensely difficult process much more bearable. Many thanks in particular to Ellie, you are a credit to St James and your profession.
Fantastic experience: 1st class dental service at St James vets Rocky gives 5 stars and is a very happy pug
Fantastic experience: An amazing practice, my first time here today, such friendly staff and the vet was brilliant she listened to what I was saying about my pets problem, it was good to have a discussion and see a methodical approach, she then treated accordingly. I felt so reassured. I highly recommend St James.
Positive experience: Our vet rhian was lovely and caring with our dog who was gravely ill. But it was so busy there they need more staff.
Negative experience: absolutely appalled. I brought my 9 year old dog here after she had started having little accidents in the house. we were told to get urine samples which cost £150 to get tested which was fine. we were told to ring in a couple of days for the results, when we did ring we were told the vet would ring us back, we had no call back. we rang on 3 separate occasions and was told the same thing. when we finally managed to speak to a the vet, 3 weeks later, they told us they had been trying to get hold of us but all our details they had for us were wrong? they then explained that it wasn't good news and that she had possible renal disease and kidney failure and that we may have to make a difficult decision, we were devastated. they told us she would need blood tests and a scan to find out what was going on, this would cost over £300 again was fine. we dropped her off and was told she would be there all day and someone would call us to collect her by 3pm but by 5pm we still had received no phone call. so we rang them and they said she was ready to collect by 6pm. my husband arrived and informed them that he was there to collect her only to be made to wait 30 minutes! when he asked where our dog was, the girl stuttered and left to get her returning seconds later with the vet, who explained that our dog was fit and healthy but slightly anaemic! when my husband questioned him about the previous prognosis , the vet had no answers. we weren't worried about the cost, our main concern was our dog but I cant help but feel like we have been ripped off and been put through unnecessary worry. will not be returning.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic vets. The vets are kind and explain things really well. They are patient with the animals. Reception staff are lovely and very helpful. Glad I am with them and so is my cat!
Positive experience: Have had enough of one of the staff cutting my conversations short. When I have been upset and have struggled to speak quickly about my dying dog she has interrupted me and spoken over me with "right, what's the surname" . So much for empathy.
