Westway Veterinary Hospital: Reviews
Fantastic experience: My cat Was ill unexpectedly and the out of our team advised me to bring him in. They talked me through everything before doing any tests or examinations. The results were that he was suffering from gastritis and had to receive treatment right away. They gave him ultrasound and did blood tests, Give medication to treat the infection, increase hydration and monitored food intake, toileting and his response to treatment. He was discharged from care after overnight observations and I was given antibiotics to continue treatment at home. He is doing a lot better and I appreciate lucie the veterinarian and the westways team at Newcastle. Make sure you have insurance to help with cost of tests and treatment. As costs do add up to avoid additional stress for yourself and getting into financial difficulties.
Fantastic experience: Great
Fantastic experience: 1st time at west ways with my little angel staff very friendly polite and proffesional Glad i made choice to take my little bany there she was very scared but they made her feel comfortable vet i seen was absolutlly fab with her very nice woman so thank you guys for putting my mind at ease Lisa
Fantastic experience: My dog collapsed very suddenly while on a walk, I immediately took him to Westway, he was seen without delay as this was treated as an emergency. I was kept informed throughout the process on what his ailment was and what the procedure would be to save him, the Westway team treated my dog with a lot of respect and empathy. Thank you so much to Lucie (Lucy?) and the whole Westway team for saving George's life.
Positive experience: Great service as always at Westway.
Negative experience: I am extremely disappointed with this clinic’s service and lack of compassion. My partner’s dog had been suffering from itching on his leg for several days, to the point where he had injured himself. This is not a new issue — he has had the same problem before, and the vet had previously prescribed a cream, which is already on his medical record. My partner works until 10 PM, and I was unable to take the dog to the clinic myself. We called several times to ask if I could simply collect the prescribed cream, especially since it was a repeat prescription. We even sent photos and videos clearly showing the redness and irritation. Despite this, we were told that my partner must bring the dog in at night and pay an emergency fee. Charging over £200 just to obtain a cream for a known, previously treated condition is completely unreasonable. During my last call, I explained that we genuinely could not come in during the day, and that they were leaving us in a situation where our dog would have to continue suffering. Their response was simply that “it’s the clinic policy.” This clinic clearly does not prioritize animal welfare or understand clients’ circumstances. It feels like money is more important to them than the health of pets. For something as straightforward as a repeat prescription, this level of cost and inflexibility is unacceptable. You should be ashamed of this kind of treatment.
Fantastic experience: As it was a Sunday night we could not attend our usual vets for emergency care. We called them and were asked to come in straight away to see our spaniel pup. The vet we seen was lovely and talked us through everything and everything was sorted very efficiently. Would highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: Can not rate this vets enough!! Very professional and VERY competent! Had to take my very nervous bulldog after suddenly struggling to walk and being in pain. Sue the vet I seen was brilliant with her, took her time and had confidence handling her. The consultation was extremely thorough and not rushed (at least 20 minutes). Sue was very friendly, and knowledgeable, and made me feel at ease. Have to give a huge mention to Jason also for being on hand at literally the drop of a hat!!! Wouldn’t take my dogs anywhere else now.
Negative experience: Because our usual vet wasn't available, unfortunately we had to take our pet here to be put to sleep. What a mistake. Whilst the vets were fine, the admin staff were horrendous. We were told that, as our pet was insured, Westway would deal with all the claim (which was over £1,000 for 8 hours of treatment - a scan, some meds, then euthanasia). Even though we were insured, we had to pay out of our pocket hundreds of pounds before leaving that morning for the scan. The very next morning after our poor beloved pet had been put to sleep, I get an angry call from the admin team demanding payment. I say that the vet said this would all be dealt with directly via the vets and we wouldn't need to deal with it. Not once did the admin person apologise or say sorry for your loss. I then claimed my hundreds back from the insurer, but the insurer said they couldn't pay it back because Westway had already claimed it! I then complained to Westway, said they've overclaimed, there was no apology at all, and that I should have known that I needed to put a downpayment even if this was going through insurers. Westway also messed up the claim, so I had to call the insuers and Westway AGAIN to send a correct invoice. This was all within days of losing our beloved pet. It was deeply painful, unnecessary and extremely stressful. I sent a complaint into the practice but it was completely ignored. No apology, nothing. Horrendous service - all the admin and practice manager want is your money. Avoid like the plague.
Fantastic experience: My dog died Christmas morning Bella the young Scottish vet who has looked after my other dog Beau was an angel I am forever grateful for the care they have given all my dogs
Negative experience: They violated and posted a false post on there Facebook page. A cat aged 21 was taken from her home street and did not need any medical treatment . i messaged them to ask why they posted this dishonest info as there post comments were switched off, and they did not reply. This not only traumatised the cat keeping her overnight but also caused my elderly mother immense distress. It has now come to light they are continuously taking cats in from their own locations and falsely saying they are receiving treatment which is a scam. Instead they should be focusing on animals that do need medical treatment. Disgusting and needs reporting being dishonest on there own Facebook page
Fantastic experience: Always so helpful. Excellent surgery conducted on my cats teeth! Pumpkin has a new lease on life!
Positive experience: Always good caring people who take great care of my pets, they always give good advice about our pets.
Fantastic experience: Thank you for your excellent 24hour service at Newcastle West Road. We brought our Labrador Retreiver Tilley after some very serious Diarrhea and she was back with us in recovery two days later.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely flawless, they treated our cat with upmost care and affection and gave us valuable information about his health and conditions and also were really friendly and approachable
Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing care! Couldn’t recommend enough!
Fantastic experience: We had an unfortunate and unexpected turn on bomb fire night with my beautiful Newfoundland. Unfortunately we had to let her go upon arrival but West Way staff were amazing through this difficult time. They rang as I was on my way checking everything was okay, they waited for my arrival and rushed to our aid the second we pulled up. They were compassionate and understanding, and they kept reassuring scarlet and my family during the process. As for pricing, I believe it was very reasonable for an out of hours, private vet. And I would pay 10 times the amount again knowing scarlet was shown love and affection from all members of staff who didn’t even know her. Thank you West Way for everything ❤️
Fantastic experience: My corgi has been registered with the vet since 2022 and I have always had only positive experience with the clinic. From annual vaccination, emergency care to travel certificate- the clinic has always performed its absolute best. Not to mention how professional and caring all staff are. Very grateful. Thank you.
Negative experience: Very poor place to deal with all vets these day money grabbing dont care about the animals before you even go the to speak to a so called vet they want £60 consultaion fee i would advise looking up house hold remedeys might be cheaper if not dont get a animal even is if its a stray dont bother taking them here. Thought VETS were like DOCTORS took a vow to help all animals even if you can afford it not no more a money enterprise ....long live the PDSA . As your reply cant answer me on here instead with a quick answer you rather take it to an email so you can hide the fact your a money enterprise. Answer this right here "if i brought in a stray cat that needed help badly what would your responce be"... we need a £60 consultation fee or take it elswhere.... that what your staff have already said to me... makes me sick.
Fantastic experience: Our dog Lottie took a bad reaction to meloxicam after her spay and became very unwell a few days later, developing HGE (haemorrhagic gastritis). We managed to get an emergency appointment at our local West Way, and the vet suggested putting her on fluids due to dehydration and severe blood-clotted diarrhoea. At that point, she was refusing food and water, and we were so worried. We took her to the hospital on West Road and she was admitted as an inpatient and stayed for a number of days until she got better. The team at West Road were absolutely fantastic and instantly put us at ease, and they gave Lottie the works to get her better again. Caroline and Lucy, in particular, kept us informed every step of the way, but every single person we dealt with – from the receptionists to the nurses and vets – was amazing, caring, and completely hands on with Lottie’s care. Thanks to them, our girl is back home after what was an awful week, and we couldn’t be more grateful. Truly a brilliant team. Cannot thank you enough for keeping our baby healthy.
Fantastic experience: I cannot fault our dogs vet, she is absolutely lovely. She genuinely cares for her patients & is very supportive to the owners too. Sue has been amazing with our boy, he completely adores her & feels safe with her which puts our minds at ease. It is good to have continued care for him with the same vet. That is very important to us, as she knows his health issues, his needs & we trust her 100% with our baby boy. The staff are always lovely to Cooper, he enjoys lots of cuddles from the staff & because of all that he is always happy to go to the vets which is great.
Positive experience: Jenny was superb as usual(West Road). Thorough, professional and empathetic. However, the prices seem to go up every time we visit!!!
Fantastic experience: Took my cat Max to Newcastle pet hospital for ultrasound but unfortunately he had to be put to sleep they found cancer, he received wonderful care and lost of love and compassion They were wonderful to me and my family can’t thank them enough ❤️
Negative experience: Avoid Avoid Avoid!! Unfortunately there is no option for no stars so that’s the only reason I have gave them a one. We took our dog here after he became poorly and we were told that he needed a specialist scan that they couldn’t give us until a weeks time because their sonographer was on holiday for the week and they had no one else qualified enough to carry out this scan. During the weeks wait my dog became very poorly and we had to rush him to the vets 6 times 3 of which were all on the same day. We were extremely concerned and worried about our poor boy as we could see him deteriorating in himself and we expressed this to the staff. We were met with extremely rude comments such as “unfortunately you have just picked the wrong week” “you will just have to go find a different vet”. We paid £430 for a basic scan and a further £150 for medication to treat something found on that scan to later find out from a different veterinarian practice that our dog had been misdiagnosed. We spent £1270 at this vet and left with nothing but a seriously unwell dog that we shortly after had to sadly say goodbye to due to his actual diagnosis and his condition rapidly worsening. This vet is all in for the money and not the well fair of the animal and this shows as every time we visited this practice they told us the price before they even asked our dogs name!! I have tried to take this further putting in a formal complaint with the practice however their response was to look at the holidays in more detail to make sure their is always a sonographer their for a emergency and to address negative comments in their next staff meeting which to me is just a little to late and staff should of been addressed there and then as I gave names of the vets that made these comments! Not to mention their failure to see any wrong doing in letting my dog suffer and refusing us compensation for his misdiagnosis. So as my complaint has not been taken seriously I’ve decided to spread terrible and heartbreaking experience to try and help other not have to go through the same.
Fantastic experience: Have taken all my dogs to the West Road branch since the 1980s !!! Always had superb service and staff so kind to my gang.
Fantastic experience: I’ve been with Westway Vets at West Road since August 2014. My cat has been through a lot in the past 11 years (including a tail amputation done here!) and he’s still keeping strong thanks to the care of the team at Westway over the many, many past years. As an older diabetic cat he’s in need of medicine regularly. It’s nice and easy to order medicine and pick up, sometimes even on the same day if I have to ask on short notice for insulin. On one occasion I needed a new insulin after hours and was able to pick it up straight away, meaning my cat didn’t need to miss his nightly dose. I’m grateful for your continued professional care for a pet so dear to me. Outside of treatment for my own cat, I’ve brought an injured stray and a pigeon for emergency treatment before and they were taken care of as quickly as possible. I haven’t had any issues with Westway in my 11 years with them and I know my cat will always receive the best care and empathetic service. Thanks for your hard work!
Fantastic experience: Brilliant vet saw our kittens for first vaccinations. A vet we saw previous week about one of the kittens came in too to see how she was which was really good follow-up. The vet yesterday was really lovely too and gave great advice and was so good with our two kittens. The reception staff are lovely. Great experience all round. Thank you Westways
Fantastic experience: We were referred to see joe yesterday at west road from our usual branch at eden hill due to buddys poorly eye. Joe explained everything he was doing in great detail & went through all the options even tho he knew removing the eye was really the best option but it was our choice. Hes down for surgery next week & we are happy to know joe will be doing the op & will take the best care of our little soldier, hes a rescue & has been through alot in his life. Joe is an ecxellent member of your team & the reception staff we dealt with during the visit were also brilliant, kind & helpful.
Fantastic experience: After a short illness and cancer diagnosis, Dexter was put to sleep this morning at the West Road branch. A heartbreaking situation as he’d been in our lives for 15 beautiful years. I want to praise and thank Joe for the love, kindness and patient way he approached everything from the initial diagnosis to euthanasia. His caring nature and love for animals really shines through.
Negative experience: Disgusting vile rude staff. Stole my dog tried to say he wasn’t my dog handed him over to the dog warden for the dog warden to confirm he was infact my dog and brung him straight to me. kept him hostage for 15hours multiple phone calls to them the staff got ruder and ruder.
Positive experience: I took my puppy to Westway for his first vaccinations and his microchip. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The vet we saw was very gentle with my puppy and very patient. He was calm but I think that was because it was a new environment. We had a few questions about worming treatments and flea treatments and the vet explained the processes, taking into consideration what was best for Toby. I was very happy with our visit
Fantastic experience: Incredible service from Esme and Jade looking after our poorly boy. They were exceptional in dealing with an anxious pup, and provided treatment so fast. Jade & Esme are exactly what you need in these challenging situations, caring, kind and professional. Thank you so much for taking care of our boy. Deal really well with any insurance provider, and Doggy A&E is 1000x faster than people A&E. Thank you so much from us and Cruise x
Fantastic experience: An excellent veterinary practice,, staff are very knowledgeable and helpful, everyone puts the welfare of your pet first & help you decide which course of treatment is suitable for your budget. Commendable
Fantastic experience: We adore Westway west road and so do our girls. Can’t recommend enough if you want lovely vets who shower your dogs with love!
Fantastic experience: Thanks to all the team at Westway West road for looking after Daisy and Poppy over their lives, especially Lucie and Caroline for giving us an extra special 3 months with poppy after performing emergency surgery due to cancer we are very grateful . Thanks to Sue and Caroline for looking after us all during the heartbreaking evening we had to say goodbye to Poppy. They both made her as peaceful as possible
Fantastic experience: Pleasant staff who had the welfare of our dog as a priority. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: We’ve used Westway for about 6 years now. All our pets are registered there (both cats and dogs). Every time we have been from emergency to routine appointments, the care they have received from everyone they’ve encountered can’t be beaten. From the reception staff to the nurses to the vets to everyone else they are all wonderful and would never trust our pack to anyone else.
Fantastic experience: Very nice service and the treatment received was professional thank you.
Fantastic experience: Great veterinary practice, Caroline is an amazing vet (west road) my 5 gun-dogs are always happy to see her no matter what the visit
Fantastic experience: I'm a new dog mum and honestly I was a complete mess not knowing what to do and the staff not only gave my puppy the best care they was also hands down amazing with me too! Highly recommended.. can't thank them enough for being so kind when I felt so lost
Fantastic experience: It turned out that Charlies health problem was an emergency. It was a Saturday, I phoned mid morning, got an appointment for an hour later, he was operated on that afternoon. He was cared for very well, made a successful recovery, after 10 days he is almost back to normal fitness. Many thanks for looking after my little boy so well.
Fantastic experience: Want to say thank you for the vet who helped my cat Kitty who was sadly put to sleep on Monday. I was very upset and treated us with kindness and treated my cat with dignity. Thank you for taking care of her till the end
Fantastic experience: My pets have always been well cared for and everyone who I have met there have been extremely professional and friendly
Negative experience: Never open as advertised, unbelievable rude receptionist, vets who cannot speak good english and money grabbing practice. Avoid.
Fantastic experience: Had a great experience with westway. My other vet only gave me an option to use general anaesthetic to x ray my 14 year old dog with breathing problems which obviously i did not want to do. I contacted westway they got me an appointment the same day where my girl was x rayed and given and ultrasound scan. She was diagnosed and given treatment immediately. They showed compassion and i feel like the service was personal to my dog and her needs. Can not recommend westway enough. Especially Caroline who was our vet. Thank you
Fantastic experience: Thank you to everyone at Westways West road for taking such good care of Bobby my Yorkshire terrier during and after his recent opp. Always caring and helpful with advice on aftercare .
Fantastic experience: The staff at the west road branch in Newcastle are fantastic, very friendly and always helpful Goose loves all the attention & treats when he visits. Wouldnt go anywhere else!!
Negative experience: They poritise annual income over animal health and welfare. That is the top and bottom of it. Profit first, animals second. They want to charge a consultation fee every time they see my dog for the same, ongoing issue, that they themselves have so far not been able to diagnose. I've asked for a prescription to keep going with the current course of medication as it seems to be helping, but they won't give it without seeing her again and charging me another consultation fee. Money grabbers, full stop. They did the same when they nearly killed her last year after a dodgy spaying: sent her home ill (they're the alleged experts, I'm meant to assume they know if it's normal for her to come home groggy and out of it to the level she was) and when I took her back in the next day they kept her overnight and charged me for it all. They took my lack of pushback then because I was happy she was fine in the end, to mean I'll just fold and keep paying them endless supplies of money. Can't stress enough how much I recommend everyone stay well clear and find a more animal centric, caring vet group or independent. Can't slate individual members as they're nice and smiley enough when you're in, but for £60 a pop minimum, I would be as well.
Negative experience: I wouldn't give it any stars but you have to rate at least 1. I took my dog that had been knocked over he was pouring of blood from his paw. They said he needed stitches an painkillers never mentiond an xray witch he would clearly need. They said so stitches an painkillers total £987. Because I said I couldn't afford it all in 1 go they let me walk out with my dog in agony an his foot still bleeding I still had to pay £250 fee for a consultation. What a disgrace they say they care about pets it's just money to these ppl
Fantastic experience: I found the receptionists and vets were great. My cat got seen time. I was given advice on her dental problem and was given a few names for toothpaste to help her. I have recommended Westway Vets to a few people.
Fantastic experience: I have been using Westway Vets for over 40 years and I have always found the staff to be pleasant, compassionate and knowledgeable. Highly recommended!
Fantastic experience: Thank you to everyone at West way on the West Road for their care of our dear boy Niall who sadly passed away on 1st June. Their compassion, gentle kindness and genuine desire to make his passing as peaceful and comfortable as possible was a great comfort to us. Sending our gratitude.
Fantastic experience: Giving 5 stars today for fabulous service and thank you for helping this swan
Fantastic experience: Thank you to Lauren for playing her part in getting my cats scan results to our regular vet. Much appreciated.
Positive experience: My cat was given a chip and a castration and then was given a follow-up appointment for immunisation all for £10 GBP
Fantastic experience: Can not praise these vets enough, after my dog took very ill he was admitted to west road hospital and was started on fluids and abx. I now have my boy back with me after some time in hospital and he is making a full recovery! All staff are so kind and are so helpful, always available to speak to you if you want an update on how your pet is doing! Words can not express how grateful I am that you saved my boy and he's now home!
Positive experience: My dog was very I'll had to rush in on weekend cost a fortune MONEYFIRST....then animal but treat my pet quickly and keep her in two days thank god she was insuranced as they wanted money first, being upset and worried they need to strongly work on people skills more caring toward pet owners.....UPDATE..... Even though hard first treatment money and let down by insurance company first westway they spread out the costs over time ...and are brilliant with help and advice 100% but still need to be up front with pet owners not make them feel guilty and uncomfortable other then that wouldn't go any where else being a customer 28yrs. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,(2024)16 th march 2024 second dog still the same money Kassie had to be put to sleep within 3 days pay up oe added charges be added heartless her in office KNOWS WHO SSHE IS heartless....Get a big checkbook before committed you can see our cost expansion extended on west road ............money first.
Fantastic experience: Only ever once had an experience I was not pleased with, however the past month my marmite cat has been unwell with stress related UTI symptoms. each time I've called I have received a same day appointment and the veterinary staff have been fantastic. Lady I had yesterday even gave me a call today to see how he was doing. I am unsure of her name now sadly, I hope this review brings attention to the staff though and she gets the recognition she deserves. They all care very much about animals and have given me huge relief with my boy. Thank you :)
Fantastic experience: Fantastic vets - have visited many times over several years and always feel they go the extra mile to look after our pets. Best vets around!
Fantastic experience: The staff are really caring and look after the humans as well as the animals. The vet Su Lo is amazing at calming out dog.
Fantastic experience: Attended fenham surgery for my ‘xl bully type’ castration surgery. He is a very anxious boy but everyone was so caring and compassionate. No discrimination or sarcy comments I have had previously at other vets. He went had his operation and I was contacted earlier than expected to pick him up which was great. They explained he had been crying and anxious the whole time after coming out of the operation so they took him out of shared kennel space and put him into a ‘quiet room’ to ease his anxieties. All information was clear and precise and felt I could contact the surgery if I needed any further support. Thank you so much to all the lovely staff members
Fantastic experience: Copybook castration. Staff were excellent, reassuring and professional. They answered all our questions/concerns. Would recommend!
Negative experience: Booked a follow up appointment for my bulldogs second vaccination. Was at Leam Lane Westway literally 4 weeks ago. Vet asked to make her second appointment for 4 weeks time. I work funny shifts from 1 week to the next.so phoned Leam Lat the beginning of this week and made an appointment for 15.15 today. My circumstances at home changed and had to ask for my appointment to be brought forward and the did for 2pm today. Anyway I go to vets for my appointment at 2pm get there to be told there's no vets till 4pm. Apparently Consett answers leam lanes telephone calls and had decided to book me in up there. Bearing in mind I've never been there ever. Total shambles of a company 1 lost customer.
Fantastic experience: Sadly I had 2 say goodbye To my 2nd dog Bernie yesterday. Although westway is not my normal vets they dealt with my 1st dog having 2 b put 2 sleep at 15 so well when it was bernies time thats where i wanted to go. The vet think her name was Marianne was sooooo lovely. I was never rushed and her compassion was so nice. She made lossing my baby torralable. She has it just right. The reception staff knew i was coming and I didn't have 2 even open my mouth which was gr8. Thank u from the bottom of my heart 4 yr compassion and his peacefull end. The vet treat him like my baby when she took him away. U r all amazing.
Fantastic experience: This hospital was wonderful with my poorly cat they were caring and kept me informed by telephone every step of the way they fought hard to keep my splodge going but had to be pts and the vet Tom was wonderful with me on phone and they took excellent care of my boy at a very sad time They even took time to send pawprints and hair clippings for me
Negative experience: Absolutely shocking service and refusal to take a cat in and asking me to release at hood street Newcastle a busy street is not acceptable. Yes you scan her and yes she was not a stray but this from. Vet is beyond a joke. I tried to release She was nearly hit by a bus so came back where you pulled shutters down and refused to let her back Threaten police. I even offered to pay to board her over night and I would come back the next day to take her to cat rescue. I rang police 4 times. You told me it was illegal to leave her but it was not.
Fantastic experience: Our dog Benson who was 14 1/2 started showing signs of stiff joints due to Arthritis earlier in the year. Christina a vet who works at Blaydon and at the West Rd branch began Benson’s consultations is brilliant and I can’t recommend her highly enough. She always showed compassion for Benson and us and respected our wishes and never tried to push additional treatments. Christina gave us some options to think about but always respected what we wanted to do at the same time. Unfortunately Benson had got to a point in his life where it would of been selfish of us to keep him going as he was in pain and lost the ability to walk. After a really bad night I made the call to Westway and explained he couldn’t go on and this was the right time to put him to sleep. They agreed to see him straight away to minimise his pain and stress and following our instruction they did the right thing for Benson with dignity and respect for him. I have to admit Christina and all the staff we came into contact with, gave us 14 1/2 years of amazing care for Benson. As heartbreaking this is to write, but thank you for looking after our little boy Benson.
Fantastic experience: Excellent staff and very polite jade the night staff was amazing tonight well done Jade and thank you very much x
Negative experience: Countless terrible experiences at this vets. Our more recent experience was the final straw. Our dog has a corneal ulcer and requires plasma drops which need to be applied every 2 hours and can only be used for 72hours. We received a second lot of eye drops Saturday which were to start8pm that evening. We went to go use them that evening to find there was no dropper so we couldn’t use. Therefore we have lost a whole days worth of product until we could go and speak to them the following day. Went first thing Sunday morning for them to tell us they’ll just give us the dropper. We explained no we’ve now lost 24hours of use of this product from their error therefore they need to replace. They flatly refused to do this and instead charged us again for the product. They sold us a faulty item and made us buy another hats product. Utterly in dismay at the poor level of customer service shown. Will be escalating this further as this is surely a breach of trading standards. Further to this I checked a cost price of one of the eye drops they supplied to us at the wholesaler at the pharmacy I work at. The cost price was £2.5, they charged us £38. That’s a 1500% mark up on the drug cost. Be warned this company is out for nothing but money and greed. Edit: Just in relation to the response by Westway. We did email all our concerns to the email mentioned and never received a reply.
Positive experience: Thank you to the staff at westway vets today for their handling of my dogs passing over . I could not of asked for a better service
Negative experience: I can not stress enough how unprofessional and unethical this practice is. DO NOT USE THIS VETS. £140 later for a ulcer on my dogs eye, after a second consultation we were advised he would need another course of ‘plasma eyedrops’ which cost a further £25. On that evening we tried to use the drops but there was no ‘topper’ to pour into my dogs eye. We had to use these drops every two hours so after multiple attempts of trying to pour the drops into my dogs eyes we gave up and decided we would go back in the morning to advise of the incompetence and get a new drops. Upon arrival the receptionist spoke to me like I had just spat on her grave, total jobsworth when I was simply trying to correct THEIR mistake. After explaining the situation the receptionist spoke Asif it was my fault? That I should have came back and got the stopper, at 8pm?. Long story short, we were given a new bottle of plasma and advised we would have to pay again!!! So we had ti pay an additional £25 because of this practices incompetence. Filed numerous complaints and reported to trading standards. Nothing but scam artists. We have since changed vets (I suggest anyone in the westerhope/Ponteland area to do the same) to the vets in Ponteland who charge less for consultations with follow up consultations £35 (not the extortionate £50 westway charge for ALL appointments). AVOID THIS VETS AT ALL COST.
Negative experience: There was a bad experience from this branch. My dog was neutered and failed. After the post check, they claimed that they would not charge the 2nd surgery and provide the required medication. After the next day, they arranged the surgery but suddenly they told us my dog just need time to recovery, no need to attempt surgery and gave us the medicine. After few days, we received an email invoice charge us that we need to pay for the medication. We never been told this required payment and we told them the vet confirmed we do not have to pay anything on the post check. After investigation, they told us due to internal communication between their vets, but we still have to pay 50% of the medication. Their business is extremely not reliable, and they found the debt collection service and tell them the 50% offer is expired before the date they offered to us. Everything is ridiculous and unreliable, they cannot comply what they promised.
Fantastic experience: Thank you so much for treating my cat (not going to show the nasty photos) even though it was out of hours We found our cat with a piece of mettle in his cheek which later found to be a bullet and he wet himself on the journey up to the vets and you couldn't have been more professional and calm The vet team were a star from start to Finnish and the journey throughout was smooth And informative He's now at home resting up and Thanks once again ☺️ From Dylan and Harvey (cat).
Fantastic experience: Recently had to bring my 23 year old cat in because she took a bad turn. The vet squeezed me into the clinic to see her. Had to bring her in to say goodbye yesterday and again they managed to get me in as soon as possible. Staff were lovely and the vets really understanding. They gave me an extra month with my baby girl and I'm forever thankful to them for it .
Fantastic experience: My husband and I had to have our beloved cat Kizzy PTS on her 19th Birthday on the 21st of April, all the staff from the Receptionists, Nurses and Vets at Westway on the west road are amazing they are so compassionate and caring, because they understood how upset we were to lose our cat and the care she had over the last 19 years has been incredible nothing was to much trouble for them, we couldn’t pick up her ashes until today and I couldn’t of been happier by the way everything was presented to us with a very touching card from all the staff, we are getting a kitten after our summer holidays and we will definitely be using Westways again thanks again to an amazing excellent team.
Fantastic experience: The staff is simply amazing, so attentive and friendly. They’re always accepting lost and found pets!
Fantastic experience: My pets have always received the very best care and treatment from Westways Veterinary Hospital. They're handled gently with great kindness and compassion which makes their experience as stress free and happy as possible.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing vets, cannot fault them at all. I have a nervous border collie who is always put at ease when there. Recently we were planning on getting him neutered however had a few concerns, the vet Rachel, took the time to give us options and come up with a solution that works not just for him but also my female golden retriever. Thanks again Rachel for taking the time and putting our concerns at ease!
Negative experience: Never take your pet here. Took our lil dog last nite clearly very distressed, he had heart problem and fluid on his lungs, hadnt ate or slept for days, yet the 4th diffrent vet he seen in 3 month refused euthanisation because he hadnt seen him enough. ( no continuity of care ) Offered us more very very expensive treatment incl overnite stays, we took our baby boy home, he died with in an hour drowning stressfully in our care. Please take your pets elsewhere, away from theese greedy uncaring disgusting people. UPDATE,,,,, months after theese so called "vets" let my dog die in agony, this arrives today UNBELIEVABLE,, ALONG WITH A £160 BILL, for a 15 minute chat when he said they wouldn't help and let my dog die in agony 2hrs later at home !!!!!!!!!!
Fantastic experience: Came in on a Saturday for an emergency prescription as I live away from Newcastle now and the service and care was 5 star. Totally recommend this vet
Fantastic experience: A great experience at my last visit to the West Road branch. I had to reschedule my appointment and the receptionist was very helpful. I also spoke to the practice manager who was very kind helping me with any initial concerns I had regarding the procedure. If I have any issues again, I will certainly be back!
Negative experience: Called West Rd, Fenham branch at 12:11pm today to make an appointment for my dog, Luna, to get spade. The phone rang for 2 mins before anyone answered & the lady who answered began by sighing into the phone, clearly unhappy I had let it ring for so long. I understand that it can be annoying & I would have hung up and rang back however I only get so long for my lunch break and the vet at Westway Tynemouth told me on Friday to make the appointment ASAP on Monday so she didn't come into season. The receptionist continued in a short and unfriendly manner. She asked me a question relating to my dog's post-puppy health to which I said 'the vet on Friday at her pre-spade check up should have put it in her notes’ as it’s very important to get the information correct & I didn’t want to paraphrase/ get anything wrong for the sake of speeding up the phone call… This seemingly angered her as she snapped that ‘she couldn’t see it because she was looking at the calendar as I had already asked her to do’. After whinging about the speed of the computer & some huffing she found a space for tomorrow (even though when I first asked if there was anything tomorrow she scoffed and said 'Tomorrow?!? We are of course all booked for then' like I was a fool for even asking) then the worst: barked through the instructions for Luna 'don't eat after 8 etc' so quickly that I couldn't take any more notes or process what she said. The whole conversation (about something very very serious) was handled in such a way that I refused to go ahead in the end, and explained to her why. I am a 34 year old woman who works in the often volatile world of sales & see many unhappy customers however I'm ashamed to say that this got to me (my dog is my world) & I ended up in tears & her reaction was to shout 'OH SHE WILL BE FINE!' This is the 2nd incident regarding this branch. The 1st happened in Dec when I very sadly had to take two of Luna's puppies in as they were weak. When I phoned up to book the appointment she initially chastised me for breeding ('people don't realise that it is going to be hard etc' however never asked me if I had done it before/ the reasons for doing it). Then when I got to the vets one had passed away and so I was sat with a box, alone, close to the desk, waiting for the vets, in floods of tears & not only was I offered no kind words/ a tissue/ any compassion they all proceeded to loudly discuss what sandwiches they were going to buy at lunch, talking about their hair cuts, festive plans, laughing away. So insensitive! I have no idea how this woman is in a job role which centres around care or to be honest any customer facing role at all. I usually go to the Tynemouth branch and the receptionists I see there are very nice and the female vets I have met (one is called Danni) are very kind and took time to explain things to me/ to be friendly. I will not take my dog to the West Road to get her operation done as this woman has made me feel like she will not be safe or cared for adequately. I know that she will not be performing the operation but unfortunately as the 1st port of contact, receptionists set the tone. I will now have to spend time looking for another vets which has unfortunately put my dog's wellbeing in jeopardy as she could come into season & the puppy we kept is male so we will have to keep them apart which will upset her greatly. I never really leave reviews, especially bad ones, which shows just how bad this experience has been! Edit: Just had a call from manager who repeatedly told me he was 'sorry IF I had taken anything negatively' and that the receptionist was just being 'bubbly!!!' Disgusting to try & manipulate me to think that I was reading the situation wrong rather than just own up & apologise. He also had a go at me for leaving a google review (inappropriate to even mention as he was responding to a separate formal complaint) & seemed to care more about that then helping my Dog- SO unprofessional and the final nail in the coffin.
Fantastic experience: All staff members are extremely caring and friendly. I would 100% recommend to anyone
Fantastic experience: Our dog Bud was referred here after becoming seriously ill, the staff were lovely all treatments and costs were fully explained and could visit him whenever and for as long as we wanted, sadly he deteriorated and was PTS. The vets Caroline and Lucy were so nice he had a peaceful end
Fantastic experience: First time use this vets and will definitely be the first choice in the future reasonable prices with a fantastic helpful friendly staff thank you all so much
Negative experience: only cared about money my dog was dying in my hands and we went there around 11 pm while they say the condition my poor dog was in all they asked about was money and said we should leave if we didnt have the money for her treatment she stayed overnight and was better the next morning they made her stay until 9pm for more blood tests when she already looked much better and the receptionists were rude and disgusting they told us a hour before her pick up thwt the total would be £475 and ended up telling us the payment was wrong and we should pay more due to another blood test when they already made one before the call and told us she was fine in my opinion they did another blood test just to get another £100 off us. we ended up paying around 2k for overnight just to save my dog and they only cared about the money not my dog even when we were crying about my dying dog they asked us to leave if we didnt have £300+ on hands the first time we entered unbelievable
Fantastic experience: Would like to thank the lady on reception who was so helpful after my toy poodle ate a paracetamol. She set my mind at ease and helped me with the process of making an insurance claim.
Fantastic experience: Very friendly and thorough with our new pup. I feel valued as a customer and have every confidence in the vets, nurses and receptionists.
Negative experience: Only bothered about taking your money! Our dog was PTS today & the vet told us to leave the room to go & pay whilst finding a vein. Absolutely diabolical. You should be ashamed of yourself. Teach your staff to have some compassion
Fantastic experience: Westways are an excellent vets practice. Always friendy, professional & reasonably priced. Today we visited the seperate cat clinic, which is a couple of doors down. Very clean with cat "pods" with a blanket to cover any nervous cats in their carriers if needed. Excellent that there are no dogs etc in this seperate clinic for your cats. The vet & receptionist were both lovely & friendly. The vet was also very informed re my cats issue & offered lots of advice. A check over was also done & booster given. We left happy knowing that we had been advised well & what we booked in for completed. Excellent for transport links too as we dont drive. Highly recommended & thank you xx Edit: Also recently dealt with Westways as our guinea pig died. We had her cremated via them & the price was very reasonable & the service excellent. Receptionist was lovely both times i saw her, and the ashes came back beautifully presented with a lovely, touching card from the vets practice. Thank you for caring xx
Fantastic experience: Excellent service and expertise. I have been using Westways since 1997 and have never had a negative experience. All the staff appreciate that every pet is an important member of your family.
Fantastic experience: Our cat got into a fruitcake resulting in a week-long ordeal, throughout which Westway was excellent to deal with. all staff were friendly, compassionate and helpful. They took time to listen and ensure Dexter had the best possible experience while admitted, and discharged him today in top form. It isn't an easy job, but you guys hit it out of the park. Keep up the great work!
Fantastic experience: Fantastic vet's who always provide great service, with regards to caring for my pets
Fantastic experience: Visited the cat clinic for the first time today. Great addition. Much less stressful for my cats.
Fantastic experience: Great service from the staffs and doctor and affordable. Bird specialist and receptionists were super nice and kind. I Highly recommend going here
Fantastic experience: Absolutely superb service and people. Couldn’t be faulted at all. Had to take Skyla in for some urgent treatment yesterday, didn’t have an appointment but Jo on reception was absolutely brilliant in sorting things out for us. The advice, treatment and professionalism from Becky the vet was second to none. We’ve had Skyla at other previous practices but none that can match Westway. 5 star and thoroughly recommended
Fantastic experience: Amazing care as usual, happy to recommend Westways Group friends, family and adopters without hesitation.
Positive experience: Great staff - receptionists to vets The only negative that I can think of is the follow up vets fee. Not sure if other practices do the same but £40 ish per visit can soon mount up. Thank god for pet insurance.
Fantastic experience: I cannot thank the team at Westway vets enough especially Dr Scobie and Dr Clark. We were working to bring our beloved cat home from UK to Singapore and they provided us with robust information and detailed documentations to ensure the process was smooth sailing. We had no issues with documents on our arrival in Singapore and got our cat with no issues. Thank you so much to the team once again!!
Fantastic experience: Buddy cut his paw and was in, anaesthetised, stitched and out again within 3 hours. The follow-up care was brilliant and the staff are absolutely lovely. There are text reminders for appointments too, I cannot recommend them highly enough. Thank you to you all!
