Our comment from InfoVet about Stead S T Ltd:

Stead S T Ltd is a veterinary practice located in York, UK, that has garnered a range of feedback from pet owners. Many clients appreciate the practice for its direct approach and reasonable prices, making it worth the travel for those coming from farther locations like Hull. Clients have praised the staff for being friendly, helpful, and quick to respond in emergencies.

Positive experiences often highlight Mr. Stead's knowledge and efficiency, especially noted for his quick diagnosis and excellent surgical skills. Numerous clients have expressed their trust in his care for their pets, describing the service as caring and compassionate, often commending the warm reception provided by the staff.

However, some reviews have pointed out issues with communication and compassion, particularly regarding the owner, Mr. Stead. Several clients reported experiences where they felt rushed or encountered a lack of empathy during critical moments for their pets. Instances of considerable charges for brief consultations and treatments have also been noted, leading to some complaints about perceived price gouging.

Overall, while many customers advocate for the practice based on their positive experiences, they also caution potential clients to consider the mixed reviews regarding the vet's bedside manner. Stead S T Ltd remains a popular choice for those seeking veterinary care, particularly due to its affordable pricing and reliable service.

Fantastic experience: Mr Stead is a very good veterinary, you don't have to wait long to be seen and the staff are helpful and friendly.

Negative experience: Prices are absolutely shocking! ! ! Paid £200 for a 5 minut visit! 70£ for an appointment ,46£ for a cream which you can get for £9.99 and £84 for tablets which you can get for £20 . Disappointed.

Negative experience: Please read the low star reviews especially if you are on PDSA or don’t have an expensive animal, or litter, he can make money from. Tim despite signing up to do PDSA subsidised fees appears to treat all these cases with disgust. I’ve spoken to countless people with the same experience. I was down as a PDSA patient but intended on saving the charity’s money and paying. He laughed in my face demanding to know where my kitten was from, told me my cat had fleas when he didn’t (confirmed by a different vet) and injected him with something without explaining what it was. He charged me for a load of flea treatment he didn’t need and then said “you can make your “donation” on the way out” and began to just walk out. He was also covered in blood. I said no I am paying in full. He just raised his eyebrows. I don’t know whether it is because I am young or because I am a woman but he treated me and my cat with disgust. We never went back. Why Tim, who doesn’t have a charitable bone in his body, agreed to be the only PDSA vet in York I don’t know, and on asking around it seems he treats his more profitable cases a lot better. His receptionist seemed appalled and I feel so sorry for all the team working with this ‘’man’.

Fantastic experience: I moved away from York and still travel back to this practice with my cat if she needs the vet. Tim just gets on with it and does what needs doing to help your pet. Highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: The reaction was so quick, thank you for saving us dog ❤️

Marie Clare (Snorabulls) Posted on Google 5 months ago

Fantastic experience: Ive used this practice for many years and am surprised to see some negative reviews. Tim is a traditional vet. He gets the job done and in my opinion his surgical skills are 2nd to none. My breed is Bulldog and I have found no other who understands the breed issues like Tim. Yes his writing is hard to decipher and he comes to his diagnosis quickly without unnecessary small talk but I trust him and I know he cares for the animals in his care.

Negative experience: I had my cat put 2 sleep here on the 9th December x absolutely traumatic from start 2 finish x the vet didn't speak to us or let us know what he was doing x as he was lifting my cat out of the carrier he jabbed him in mid air and said..I have just given him a sedative and left x I had to shut the surgery door because he was doing all this for all the waiting room to see x I was mortified x my cat was finding it hard to swallow as i was cuddling him and I began to panic x the vet was gone ages and i couldn't see anybody to shout of,and I just stood there in tears til the vet came back x he came back in the room grabbed my cats paw and shaved his leg and then just injected him with the stuff that puts them to sleep and left again x he came back...said my cat had passed away and said I will give u 5 mins with him x my cat emptied his bowels on me after he passed and the vet just picked up a towel...sprayed my coat...wiped it off and left x I never saw him again x I was left holding my dead cat for that long I just had to walk out and leave him on the table x if I hadn't have had to get the bus home I would never have left my cat there x heartbroken isn't the word x the place was filthy...cluttered and nobody cared x

Negative experience: Horrific. Cold, zero compassion, in the wrong profession. Barely looked at my girl when she was poorly, dismissed us saying she had dementia that was all, turned out she had a brain tumour and she passed a week later. Disgraceful.

Harley Cooper Posted on Google 5 months ago

Fantastic experience: My girl had a c section done here about 2 weeks ago She has healed up perfect with minimal scar visible and her puppies are doing great Staff and vet was both very friendly and helpful

Dallas Wade Posted on Google 5 months ago

Fantastic experience: I couldn’t speak more highly of this vet and all the staff that work there very friendly full of knowledge and couldn’t do any more to help us well worth the hour and a half drive. Thank you

Sarah Feenie Posted on Google 6 months ago

Fantastic experience: I’ve had nothing but wonderful experiences with this vet! Every member of the team has been incredibly friendly, helpful, and genuinely caring toward both me and my pets. I’ve recommended this place to every pet owner I know because the service is consistently excellent. I was honestly shocked to see some 1-star reviews — if I could give them 10 stars, I absolutely would! Highly recommended.

Sazzle Rose Posted on Google 6 months ago

Fantastic experience: In my opinion this is the best vets in York and I wouldn't take my animals anywhere else. Tim Stead is really knowledgeable and genuinely cares about the animals, spending a lot of his spare time fund raising for animal charities alongside his veterinary work. I've called out of hours a few times and always had helpful advice and I've always been happy with the service received on visits as well.

natasha hardman Posted on Google 6 months ago

Fantastic experience: Tim is brilliant. He is the only vet here and would recommend highly

Fantastic experience: Steads is a fantastic veterinarian surgery Tim is a great vet very knowledgeable and understanding, his staff are amazing and nothing is to much for them.. Always happy to help with your pets from the car etc overall a great experience thank you for looking after our fur babies

Kelly Tinson Posted on Google 7 months ago

Negative experience: I struggle to put into words just how absolutely horrific this vet is! He has a total lack of compassion. Treats animals like their dirt, with barely any communication to explain what's going on and couldn't wait to get rid of us, we were in the room for less that 30 seconds! He reduced my boys steroids which I questioned with another vet, not only was the dosage he reduced it to useless and doing nothing it was also dangerous and he should have been tapered down slowly, luckily not enough time has passed for it to do any damage! Luckily this was a follow up appointment from the charity I got him from so I won't ever have to see this man again! You couldn't pay me a million pounds to take my babies back to see that horrible man Reception staff all really lovely but I would really advise they get out of that place quick sharp!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Matthew Williams Posted on Google 8 months ago

Fantastic experience: Unbelievable Vet helped us with an emergency C Section at 12.20 at night answered the telephone and gave clear advise and instructions was waiting when we got there and performed an amazing clean opp and handed us 7 beautiful puppies at 01.10 carried our girl back to the car for us and supplied the follow up information. This Vet clearly has many years off experience and it shows thank you

Laura-Mae Bowes Posted on Google 8 months ago

Negative experience: Shocking experience. As many reviews say on here - extremely dismissive, zero compassion, and not interested in our girl at all. Staff were absolutely lovely and so sweet - clearly embarrassed by the doctors demeanour! Our girl had just had puppies and was extremely hot, not eating and we were very worried. Told she had ‘some form of infection’ and despite asking questions were dismissed and rushed out with a £250 bill! Told to give her two things (which were not explained). I tried to say I felt she had swollen mammoth glands and milk production was stuck. He just said ‘Normal.’ and walked out the room. Turns out I was right! Pus filled glands and he did not care or even acknowledge it when we called again. Money chasing, rude and horrible. The staff should work elsewhere as they were the sweetest ladies.

Fantastic experience: This is a new review August 2025 as we now have an 17 month old Cocker Spaniel who has just experienced his boys operation ,enough said poor lad but once again we must say a big thank you to Tim & the staff who do a wonderful job in this small & friendly practice we were reassured & didn’t worry unfortunately one testicle was undescended all went well & our beautiful boy is back to his normal self ! Tim looked after all our Guinea Pigs over 20 years before we progressed to dogs !, we had eye surgery , ovarian treatment … almost anything a little piggy can have we have always been treated with care and compassion when needed especially with the loss of the small animals when I have sobbed terribly all have gone to rest at Tim’s .We then lost our previous Cocker Spaniel at age 2 very sadly due to a blood disorder nothing any Bet could have done to save him but our new boy is now under Tim’s care .Thank you all !

dawne wright Posted on Google 10 months ago

Fantastic experience: Telephoned as we had a small issue with 1 of our Cats. Spoke to a lovely friendly lady and got an appointment same day ( which wouldn't have happened at our previous vets) arrived early but was seen straight away by Tim. Issue was dealt with within minutes and we were on our way back home with a happier furbaby. Changed to Steads due to issues with previous vet and so glad we did.

Steve Guest Posted on Google 11 months ago

Fantastic experience: Great help very we'll priced and lower than any vets I know.thankyou for your help and support.

Elizabeth Cooper Posted on Google 11 months ago

Positive experience: I have given 3 because they used to be good. Discusting £60 per item, I wanted a perscription for my dogs flea treatment to buy cheaper online. Would be £120 for 2 dogs... Pure greed.

Michael Ward Posted on Google 11 months ago

Fantastic experience: Once again my cat needed to visit mr Stead he needed a cyst removed . Got an appointment within 24 hours and the cyst was surgically removed same day . Great no nonsense vet cant fault the guy .

Sarah Stewart rawnsley Posted on Google 11 months ago

Fantastic experience: My french bulldog was booked i. for a planned c-section, the vet was very kind and could sense I was worked up he let me stay with my girl whilst he delivered the Anastasia. He safely delivered 6 pups. Mum and pups are all doing well. After reading the reviews I was sceptical but I would definitely recommend this vet and will use them again.

Darren Nunn Posted on Google 11 months ago

Negative experience: My 79 year old mother took her dachshund fo a skin problem. The vet took a look under her armpit and without close inspection charged her £105 for a small tube of cream. I understand the price structure but this is ridiculous. The same cream is available on line for £6.95.

Fantastic experience: We are so grateful for the kindness, skill and professionalism of the team at Stead's Veterinary Surgery. All of the staff have been so attentive and supportive during our cat Magnus 's long illness. When we had to call at 2am on a Sunday morning because of an acute obstruction, Mr Stead met at us the practice within 15 minutes, carrying out the emergency surgery immediately. Mr Stead is a straight talking, no nonsense vet which we appreciate and the nurses are lovely. The welfare of the animal is always at the forefront of the service at Steads, and we trust them with our pets 100%.

This will be the vets we stick with and travel over an hour to get to just from this experience. Thank you to all the staff at STEAD x

Positive experience: My dog has had two ligament surgeries with this vet now, both thanks to the Blue Cross. Both successful, neither time infected, neither with any trouble healing. Mr Stead is perhaps not one for hugging, but his staff are lovely and we are treated professionally and kindly. A no nonsense yorkshire vet.

Fantastic experience: Excellent Vets. After a very stressful 24 hours with my Frenchie in labour and 50 calls to extortionate vets.. I was referred to this place and wow.. I went from a total heartbreaking mess to reassured and dealt with in the space of half hour. Happy Juliet and pups and I’m going to rest better tonight knowing she’s been looked after by the best. I highly recommend to anyone with pets and urgent medical care. Amazing place and very professional

Negative experience: Absolute joke of a vet, palmed us of with antibiotics for infections our dog never had. only interested in taking quick money of us (never more than 5 mins in room) We took our dog to another vet because we weren't happy with the service from steads and were told to bring him in straight away as so poorly and had to be put sleep. avoid at all costs

Natalie Mackley Posted on Google 1 year ago

Negative experience: I urge everyone with a pet not to use stead vets!! My dog had been unwell for a few months and he showed no compassion or sympathy. He kept fobbing him off with antibiotics without investigating the issue properly. We arranged for a new vet to check our dog over and got the devastating news that he was a very very poorly dog and their advice was he must be put to rest to free him from pain! Our poor dog had been suffering and we was always made to believe he just had an infection

Dave Sweet Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: I took my sister and her dog. It's a small practice with some parking at the front. The staff are very helpful and understanding. The vets are great and again, very understanding. Her dog was having its teeth cleaned under general anesthesia. She lost her last dog after the same procedure so was quite upset and worried. They did her dog first and rang her as the dog was coming round. They even rang her later with an update as she was unable to collect him until 16:00 hrs. Sometimes it's not about the money.

Marc Bailey Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Thank you to all at this practice, i had my senior greyhound in for extensive dental work which resulted in complications of none stop bleeding. Tim & the crew took her in & saved her life, she's at home now recovering after 2 days of intense care at the surgery & it didn't cost me the earth like other vets would have charged us. Thank you to all the team there, amazing work & care

Louise Moody Posted on Google 1 year ago

Negative experience: One of my dogs has unfortunately developed an eye infection whilst I'm on holiday resulting in an emergency operation to remove her eye by the vets close to her kennels. Upon communicating this scenario to Stead, he said he could operate within "a few days" (she's in extreme pain despite painkillers) and the infection could spread beyond the eye. I have been told that using the kennels vets shows "you have money" (what business it is how someone funds a genuine emergency? He has no idea) and they are cancelling my funding plan as a result. It's not about money but about my dogs life who might not have "several days" given her condition, and even if she could manage, I consider it cruelty to leave her in pain. ASo, no, I don't have vast sums as he bluntly suggested. I have just prioritised my dog's comfort and life. Meanwhile, the operating vet, Howells, have acted with respect and compassion at all times throughout what is obviously a difficult ordeal.

A Bishop Posted on Google 1 year ago

Negative experience: Both kittens we took here for neutering ended up with severe infections, with large amounts of pus forcing open the single blue stitch that he put in to close the wound. Fortunately the kittens survived - despite needing more surgery to fix what he had done to them. We could easily have lost them. 'Butchering' is a word other vets have used when seeing the photos of what was done to them - from other reviews I can see we were not a one off situation. If you have to take a cat here to be neutered, make sure you have got them fully insured first, and watch the wounds very carefully to spot infections forming under the skin.

Fantastic experience: Thank you Mr Stead and Nurses you all went above and beyond duty in care for Gem our gentle girl with her really bad oral teeth condition, a very small cost to pay for her speedy booking in to treatment which you did a fantastic job indeed, Mr Steads had sad memories as our previous little Boy Jack fitted the very day we went on holiday in a lovely caring kennels of Alicea Clanceys, she speed to Mr Steads from Murton but sadly our boy died while been trying to be saved by Tim, the kennels let us know on the day we returned to save our grief until we got home, Tim kept our Jack lovingly for our return, could not ask for better service. We was very nervous on returning with Gem only because of the sad memories but this was soon dispelled on the friendliness of all at Steads. Thank you! Paul and Mandy

Steve Claffey Posted on Google 1 year ago

Negative experience: Won't be using you lot again think you knew this was coming so was referred to you guys as you were a quick service and was decent on price. But what I didn't expect was for you to hand me back the puppies un-resuscitated therefore we had to resuscitate them on an hour and half drive back home which caused loosing three of the four pups, your service was bad from loosing multiple booking appointments prior to your care for the pups on arrival you basically dumped them in the tub and said that's all we can do for them.

Nikki Draper Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Amazing care and service. The staff were professional and kind. We will be using them again

Mike Walker Posted on Google 1 year ago

Negative experience: We had the misfortune of having to put down our family pet, and while the lady on reception was lovely and provided us tissues - the vet was severely lacking in compassion or social skills. Jabbed our pet, rather aggressively to which he naturally reacted to, with an injection to make him slowly fall asleep (prior to an injection to put him down) but did not communicate this with us. This caused undue stress as our pet fought against the drowsiness, hissing and otherwise being in distress for several minutes - leading us to think something wasn't quite right. Eventually the vet returned, shaved his leg and administered the injection to finally put him to rest. This was promptly followed by 'that will just be £80' - yes there is a bill to pay, but please give people a minute or two to unpack what has just happened. I appreciate that this part of the job is awful, and you need to be detached from it in order for it not to swallow you up. I have endless respect for that, as it is not something I could do, however it does not excuse a lack of compassion and communication towards a family that is grieving in their pet's final moments.

Jasmine Rawlinson Posted on Google 2 years ago

Negative experience: Please avoid at all costs!! If I could give 0 stars I would have … The vet was horrendous. He stabbed my puppy with such force with the needle as if he got some sort of enjoyment out of hurting him! He didn’t want to answer any of my questions, the only comment was the price! Very rude and no people skills whatsoever. The vet also knew that my puppy was from a puppy farm (we didn’t know this until collecting the puppy) as the breeder is well known to the practice! This is why we were so worried about our puppy and wanted him thoroughly checked which he didn’t do or want to do. It’s clear the vet only cares for money as he is willing to support puppy farming by providing his services to the breeder! The staff however were lovely. Please don’t bring your pets here and please read the other reviews as I don’t want any animal or owner to experience what we did that day.

Negative experience: I would not even give this vet a star. The staff was really sweet and caring and you could see that what had happened to me, happened many times before, and you could tell they felt bad. The doctor?! Horrible. I have no words to describe that man. I came in with my dog because she has been throwing up, couldn’t stand on her legs anymore, and she was really ill and i was really panicking because i have never seen her like this before. As i was trying to talk to him, i kept getting ignored, he showed no compassion at all, he would cut me off and without EVEN inspecting my dog to see what is wrong, he told me 3 things that was wrong with her. So, i asked “what does that mean?”, because when he told me the issues, he addressed them as i was a vet and i knew the specific names of what my dog has. His response was “what i said”. So i asked again, and he gave me the name again. After that i kept telling him about my dog’s eye infection, that I KNOW she had, to which he responded by saying no she has cataract (which i know she does, but that was not the thing that i was really worried about) and that he can’t do anything about it. After i just wanted to know what was wrong with my dog, like any other person would do, and i tried to ask questions that were easily dismissed, he then rushed me out and said i will have to pay for “these two things” without informing me what they were. Same thing happened again, i tried to ask questions and he would barely talk to me and he would dismiss me very quickly, and then i left. Never again, now my dog keeps throwing up and is not feeling good at all, and i will have to wait until tomorrow because everything is closed.

Negative experience: Very short and if I am honest seemed a little uncaring my own vet is brilliant the ladies behind the receptionist were absolutely lovely maybe it's because my own vet is so good I judge from that

Mick Posted on Google 2 years ago

Negative experience: Had my dog c sectioned by Tim, unbeknown to us they were to early by the blood level, two were struggling straight away and the other 4 were just handed over without any advise or any check from him a Vet that in my opinion should be caring and considerate.3 hours after getting home they all died.easy £750 pound for you heartbroken

katelynn wilson Posted on Google 2 years ago

Negative experience: I recently adopted a kitten and was taking him to be neutered as this is the vets they use. The reception staff and all female staff working there were lovely and were genuinely interested in helping my cat as he is a snotty kitten since previously having cat flu. However, the vet himself was awful. He did not seem to care about my kittens health and his communication skills were shocking. When I discussed my worries about his sneezing and snottiness and if there was anything else I could be doing for him I was told 'that's life' and he didn't even bother to have a look at my kitten. My cat had to have an incision on his abdomen which I was informed of after the surgery (was perfectly okay with this) but since this wound has been opening up and weeping. I spoke with the vet on two occasions about this, once after the surgery when there was a small hole and today as it seemed as if the stitches had completely opened. Both times I was dismissed and told it was fine. I ended up spending my own money on a different vet closer to me for a second opinion. They told me that I had done the right thing fetching him in as he needed antibiotics. Please avoid this vet at all costs.

Negative experience: I urge you to read my review. I first brought my dog here for an x ray as she became lame at just 2 years old. Stead did an x ray and said she was riddled with arthritis throughout her body and that painkillers were needed for life but surgery wasn't possible. Secondly, my dog had severe dry eye and he made his own medication for her which he said was the "same stuff as optimmune." I asked him to use the paper tests to monitor her tear production and he said her eyes were 'good.' I also on a later occasion asked him to check her ears as she had gone deaf and was scratching her ears. He looked inside her ears and said there was nothing wrong with them . I was flabbergasted. Her ear canals were smelling, they were rattling with the build up of infection, they were extremely red and my dog had lost her balance and was distressed because she couldn't hear me when I called her. I cried when I got home. At this point, despite being on a low income , I decided to change vets and to end my Blue Cross membership . This decision saved my dog from a life of suffering. The following day I went to another vet who confirmed she had a bad ear infection which has gone on for too long. Antibiotics were given which treated a very basic and easy to spot ailment. Her tear production was also tested and she was producing ZERO tears. The homemade medication had been doing nothing from stead despite him saying my dogs eyes were good. I then changed to opptimune with my new vet and my dogs eyes have improved ever since and are producing tears and every time I get them checked the tear production is getting higher and higher . By changing vets I avoided my dog from going blind. Also, my new vet has just given her an x ray and said that she does not have arthritis she has a condition which can be repaired by surgery and because the condition in her back legs has been left untreated her bones have started 'remodelling' so the surgery is urgent. Please don't use this vet. I believed that his lack of compassion and rudeness was just his unpleasant personality and I kept making excuses for going back . Please trust your instincts about this man. I can't understand why he wouldn't have treated my dogs ear infection as he would have made money from the treatment and I have to accept that he gains satisfaction from the harm he causes .

Fantastic experience: Got an appointment the same day for our poorly dog to be seen, after suffering with diarrhoea/sickness. The vet was polite and efficient and knowledgeable in the diagnosis. Came away with the appropriate medication. I think reading some of the negative reviews people have left they have felt that the bedside could be improved on, I think it's a busy working vets and there probably isn't always the time to say how lovely your pet is! My advise is to always to try for yourself, as everyones opinions are different.

Fantastic experience: The Vet practice is really good, they've helped all 3 of my cats. They're professional and very friendly. Able to fit us in quickly and the vet is incredibly knowledgeable. Couldn't ask for better.

Negative experience: Absolutely horrendous! My daughter had her kitten spayed a few days ago ,she has returned twice as the wound is infected ,Vet just didn't care been today he removed stitches from a gaping infected wound then stapled it with no warning her kitten was already extremely suffering with pain , we took her to a different vet who were horrified by the Butchering (there words ) that this vet had done , her kitten went straight into surgery for life saving treatment , Thank god she took her to a different vet !! She would have died today , Steady vets should be Struck off !!!! He maybe needs to get a job in a butchers !!!

Negative experience: If there was an option for minus stars, this vet would get minus a gazillion. We used this vet when my cat was extremely poorly, he initially advised we should put him down and that he would have no quality of life, we decided to wait to see how he was and after a week, our cat was back to normal health, he lived for years and years, happy and healthy. Eventually when he came to the end of his life he was very ill again, we knew it was his time. When we went, Tim Stead showed absolutely zero compassion, he didn't even close the door to the waiting room, so we had a full audience while we were having to say our goodbyes in a very traumatic experience. He did not explain to us the process and didn't give us a chance to say our final goodbyes, just walked out and came back in and injected him and then he was gone. I have had various encounters of this vet and God knows how he has gone into this line of work with the attitude of him. What an awful, incompassionate and judgemental person. DO NOT USE if you love you're animal, he is not acting in the best interest and care of your pets.

Fantastic experience: My dog first went for a section and I was scared after reading the reviews. I couldn’t fault the service we received what so ever. I had to call Tim for an emergency appointment one night this week as a puppy was still stuck inside my girl. Within a hour we arrived at the surgery after been quoted £4000+ from a local yet. My girl was in and out within an hour and we was on our way home. Tim saved my girl life. He greeted us with a smile and talked us through everything. I cannot fault him at all. Please ignore all the negativity. He is always there afterward too and will answer the phone or message you back with any worries. Thanks Tim

Fantastic experience: My Cat, (Simba) was recently operated on by Tim for what was a very dangerous and life threatening condition. He has had several urethral blockages and despite environmental changes and dietary changes, blocked again and required P.U. Surgery or Penile amputation. Tim and his colleagues were indeed wonderful throughout and provided realistic information and potential outcomes, it was after all, very much so a last resort. Cannot thank Tim enough, he is an amazing Veterinary Practitioner and I would absolutely recommend him to other pet owners. Veterinary care isn't always cheap, but we cannot put a price on our pets lives. Thank you for everything guys, Steve x

Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing exceptional veterinary practice! Everyone was super friendly and kind to both us and our dog. They were very helpful and reassuring throughout the whole process. The lovely receptionist and wonderful vet and nurses took very good care of our little girl. We would highly recommend them to anyone as they really do care about animals and not profit.

Negative experience: Absolutely appalled by the lack of compassion, care and knowledge from the owner and vet at ST Stead Vets. After taking my puppy in for his 2nd vaccination we were not greeted at all by the vet himself instead just ushered into a fairly shabby, messy room (which looked more like a messy office than a sanitary space). What I was most appalled by was the lack of care as he was handling and injecting my puppy. Instead he went in all force, practically stabbing my puppy with the injection, causing him to yelp. Apart from checking his heart with a stethoscope, not one word came from the vets mouth or question of how my puppy was doing. Instead we were met with a measly ‘That’s £25 pay at reception.’ No aftercare either. Since getting home my puppy has been sick, and has been crying every time his back is touched (which we believe is from the harsh handling by the vet). I urge anyone to look elsewhere for treatment of any kind for any of your pets. This vet needs closing!

Fantastic experience: Great vets- very understanding and will try different examinations and treatments in order to cure an animal.

Fantastic experience: I was worried about sending my kitties here for spaying after reading some reviews. However, my kitten and my cat were taken in spayed and microchipped, they were very well looked after and the staff explained everything to us pre and post procedure. The wounds have healed very well and my kitties are happy, so overall I do recommend these vets:)

Fantastic experience: The best vet I’v ever been to I live in leeds and travel to York to use these guys

Negative experience: This vet has killed my cat. He kiled her in five days. My female cat got spayed by this vet five days ago. She died today from what was a literall STABBING, not a spaying incision. I trusted this clinic as qualified but I was wrong for so, so, many reasons. My poor cat. She was my best friend, and I wanted her to stop suffering from looking for a mate. They just killed her. I btought her in today because she started having AWFUL symptoms of infection in a literal HOLE of incision tied together with a plastic BLUE CABLE TIE (what looked like). The incision was ON THE SIDE. NOT IN THE MIDDLE. and it was HUGE. And he didnt prescribe any ANTIBIOTICS JUST SAID TO RETURN THE CONE IN 7 DAYS FOR REUSE. She was suffering and meowing in pain when I brought her there. She died there on his operating table after he said he would "clean" the infection and she will be fine. I had 5 minutes to decide whether I want her ashes before they closed and disposed of the body upon closing. I am ashamed people like ones who run this clinic exist on this planet.

Fantastic experience: What absolute super stars, this vets was recommended to me, I got shoddy treatment from my old vet. Ststead has given me faith and trust in a vet once again. Thank you to all staff that looked after my girl. quite obvious that this place is caring and the price of treatment reflects that. Finally found a vet in his game for love not money.

Fantastic experience: Cannot Thank Tim and Team enough for the professional manner in which you looked after our cocker spaniel . After traveling from HULL im glad i did after a terrible experience with local vets , who almost had a leg amputated / worse put to sleep . Tim was professional in every way , performing a operation on her paw , follow appointments and great care given. Staff were very attentive and gave advise on the phone also . although we see neg reviews we would recommend highly and would not hesitate to use again . Thank you all at the practice for your help its very much appreciated . Take care all

Negative experience: AWFUL,RUDE&NO CARE FOR PEOPLES PETS!! My friends rat was poorly so took him to be put down, waited in waiting room then the vet shouted NEXT. Entered a small awful room, Tim asked what we wanted. We explained he wasn’t well and thought he was better off been put to sleep. Tim grabbed a needle from god knows where, grabbed the rat threw him to a side and jabbed him with the needle causing the rat to squeal… then left the room and said I’ll be back in a few minuets. The rat was still moving and breathing. He came back in to check the rat told us he would twitch but he was still alive and breathing!!! He didn’t measure the medication out or even warn us he was going to do the injection. Once he threw the rat into the box we took to take him home in he said ‘£20 at the desk’. This man shouldn’t be in this job if he can’t be kind to pets or owners! It may just be a rat to him but that is my friends family pet. So sad to see someone treat a pet in such a horrible way.

Julie Bentley Posted on Google 2 years ago

Negative experience: Awful experience. Whilst the receptionist/staff were lovely there was a complete lack of compassion, empathy and basic manners from the vet/owner. He injected my dog without warning, prescribed tablets without explaining anything and completely misdiagnosed him. We then went to another vet who contacted Stead for the notes from the appointment. Nobody could understand any of it, no mention of what the injection was for and alarmingly he’s dishing out tablets that are for human consumption but sticking labels on as if he’s giving animal medication. No wonder so many healthy animals are dying in his care. Do not visit this practice, he needs to be struck off!

Negative experience: I took my 13 week old kitten for his second vaccine. I was appalled by the lack of care given to him. No checks to make sure he was growing properly, no questions about how he was and I felt like I couldn’t talk about anything with him. He simply opened the cage, grabbed him by the scruff, shoved the vaccine in and closed the cage. Never have I dealt with a vet who appears to not care about animals before. The neutering of our kitten would’ve been free as we adopted from a charity. We are so concerned about the lack of care provided that we have registered him elsewhere and have decided to pay for it instead. That’s how bad we found the service and the treatment of the animals. If he treated us and our kitten better then we would’ve gone back yearly and kept him registered. You’ve lost custom and Stead. I am not usually one to write negative reviews, but I urge anyone who considers taking their pet to this practise to reconsider and look elsewhere!

Fantastic experience: Highly recommended I was recommended myself by a family member we came all the way from castleford to visit, due to constantly being ripped off and let down by my local vets4pets. The vet was very hands-on with my dog that my local vet was scared to touch. He did a scan, blood tests and had a quick detailed diagnosis. He offered his number for advice following the appointment, which was a great help and offered reassurance. Unfortunately, the news wasn't what we wanted to hear. However, I felt a lot more at ease hearing it from him rather than my local vets4pets who just talked about the costs and future costs. The treatment was also a fraction of the price my local vet4pets charged. Only downside I can see was the practise was pretty small and compact and due to an emergency procedure the waiting area was pretty full so if you have an animal that's not too keen on others it's worth thinking ahead of schedule I waited in the car with my dog until the vet was ready to see me.

Negative experience: Will never use this vet again ! The main vet (man) is shocking to say that he got into this line of work because he cares for animals makes me laugh he did not weigh my pup before sticking a needle of god know what in his neck talking to me as if I was a child because of the breed of dog I own , I had to keep with this vet to finish my pup’s vaccination and would never come back again he told me my puppy needed an operation because he has the sniffles (since had a second opinion) he’s fine ! This man should really learn to care for the animals and not use them as money bags because us people who care will pay it !!!

Fantastic experience: If you join the blue cross charity you pay about £40 a year for your pets medical attention/needs,it's therefore renewed yearly but you get a confirmation letter telling you Wen times nearly up for that year! Then Wen your pet needs medical help you pay a donation after treatment, The staff are friendly/helpful over phone too bookings are usually prompt that day if necessary! The staff even remember my 6year old cats name from being a kitten Mr steads usually rushed off his feet,But the help is fantastic hes a good veterinary surgeon he's quick at dealing with issues an Efficient! Thankyou I'm glad to feel secure in my place with your practice Mr Stead I certainly couldn't afford average pricey extortionate vet bills like other practices

Negative experience: If I could give zero stars I would. We picked our puppy up from just receiving her 1st injection. From the day we took her home, she had diarrhoea for nearly 3 weeks. We reluctantly took her back for her 2nd jab, because no other vets did the same injection. On walking into the practice, we were greeted by a young girl, nothing wrong with this. She took us into a room, that I can only describe as filthy, all doors open, no privacy and dog hair on the table from god knows how many other pets. We said we’d come for her 2nd jab and also wanted her fleeing & worming. He asked if our puppy was a working dog or pet! (She had a bow on her collar, so I thought this would give it away!). He picked up the needle, just stuck it in her neck, didn’t talk to her or anything. The poor puppy would’ve been wondering what was happening. Then he picked up the syringe with what was supposed to be worm/flee solution, although it just looked like water, and just threw it on her fur! He didn’t part the fur or put it on the nap of her shoulder. He didn’t weigh her, nothing, he just walked us to the door and said that’s £35, and no receipt was given. He didn’t explain how long it would be before we could take her out, any side effects or anything. He was one of the most rudest, uncompassionate people I’ve ever met. He shouldn’t be allowed to practice or be round people, let alone animals.

Fantastic experience: I travel from Bradford to York to take my dogs to see Tim as he is a brilliant vet and his team are lovely. Can easily get an appointment and prices are very reasonable. I sadly lost my boy Leonidas nearly 2 week ago but Tim and the team did all they could to try save him and to make him comfortable. We just want to thank Tim for doing his best to try save our boy and we are grateful for how much you looked after him. We are grateful we got to bring him home for a little while longer.

Fantastic experience: I suffer with a compulsive disorder and I have a dog am always on the phone asking questions about my puppy always worried about him, he damaged his claw over 3 months ago he was under a different practice and I was fed up of spending over £300 a fortnight on prolonging a problem when the problem should have been solved straight away.. Negative experience: The receptionist were all lovely and friendly! Shame can’t be said about the vet. Jesus .. what a miserable sod, no care for animals either! No information given just gave the vaccination and sent us on our way. Didn’t even say hi to us when he walked into the room! Will be using a different vets from now on.
