Fantastic experience: Very friendly and thorough annual check up. Pippa always enjoys going to the Vets. Strokes and treats. She doesn't notice the injection.

Fantastic experience: I've been with these vets for over 30 years. The vets take time to listen to you. Get to know your pets and have time for a little fuss to put them at ease. The appointment was spot on time on the day although I had wait a couple of weeks to get a check up. I'm sure they would get you in quicker if needed!

Fantastic experience: They are always caring and helpful. They were very good to me when having to say goodbye to my old dog toff. They vet was fantastic with my pups first visit. All staff very approachable and emphatic.

Negative experience: I highly recommend avoiding this vet. I have had a couple of instances where the recommended tests did not seem necessary and were rather expensive. During a recent visit, it was suggested that my cat get a white blood cell test, when I pointed out that this didn't make sense because the vet had said he thought it was a virus (a condition where a blood test will not affect treatment), he said "Well, it might have shown us something". This is not the only instance where the suggestion made did not seem to align with the diagnosis suggested. But what has led me to never return, is that my cat was supposed to get a subcutaneous injection of fluid, to help with the illness she was experiencing. When I got her home and took her out of her carrier, she was covered in blood and fluid, her carrier had blood all inside it and my floor was soon covered. I immediately rung the surgery and after they put me on hold, they told me to come in. I brought her in and they took her back. Five minutes later they brought her out and said "she's fine, it was just a small leak". They had dried her off and put her back in her carrier. On my drive home the vet called and left a patronising message about how a "small amount of blood and fluid can leak out and he's very sorry her didn't tell me". The whole interaction was completely unacceptable. It's clear they messed up the procedure, as all the fluid that was injected came out, mixed with blood (this also means they hit a blood vessel). To clarify I have photos of the blood all over her carrier, the pad inside, and my floor in three rooms of my house. As she was soaked in blood and fluid. The gaslighting and attempts to convince me it wasn't incompetence is ridiculous. They put a sick animal through unnecessary stress and trauma and did not have the decency to take any accountability. I will never allow them near another pet.

Negative experience: I held back from writing this review in the hope my concerns could be resolved directly with the practice, but sadly that hasn’t happened. My recent experience at Tower Vets has cost me £1,100 and a huge amount of stress. Due to incorrect and misleading notes left on my dog’s medical records (which were passed to my insurance company), my insurance claim was refused. These notes were based on nothing more than a 5-second visual glance in my dog’s mouth during a booster and flea appointment. Somehow, from that, the vet recorded extensive “conditions” that even I was unaware of. Because of those inaccurate records, the insurer deemed my dog’s dental issues a “pre-existing condition” and refused the claim. In reality, my dog only had plaque build-up – which all dogs get. I booked a dental clean expecting 2–3 possible extractions. Instead, without proper pre-checks or X-rays, I was told afterwards that 10 teeth had been removed. At no stage was I clearly informed of this severity beforehand. Worse still, when I asked about the pre-check and X-rays that were initially suggested, I was told they were “no longer needed” once they realised I was on the pet plan (which meant they wouldn’t profit from it). That felt like a decision made for their own gain, not for my dog’s best interests. I have spent the last month disputing this with them, only to be told they had done nothing wrong. My emails are now being ignored, and the only resolution offered was to “amend” the medical notes – which is meaningless after the damage has been done. This is actually the second poor experience in three years with this practice. Unfortunately, their actions have now cost me over £1,000. ⚠️ My warning to others: Please reconsider before trusting this practice with your pets. The positive reviews may be genuine, but the negative ones all seem to highlight the same concerning patterns. I am now taking this further with the RCVS and the Ombudsman, and if I do not achieve a satisfactory resolution, I will pursue the matter through the Small Claims Court to recover all or at least some of the costs I have incurred.

Fantastic experience: From arranging appointment to seeing the vet all the staff were friendly and efficient. My cat was fairly relaxed throughout her annual examination, vaccination and check up.

Fantastic experience: I cannot speak highly enough of Tower Veterinary service’s. I have been with them now for 5 years and they have looked after my Border Collie dog superbly. Their prices are competitive and attention to detail exemplary. I have no problem in recommending them to pet owners near and far.

Fantastic experience: I took both my dogs here for the first time yesterday and I cannot thank the staff enough, they was absolutely spot on with both of them but especially with my male dog who is quite old and abit funny at times. We was very unsure of how he was going to be and I was so stressed about it but the ladies on reception and the vet Hannah did a smashing job with both of my dogs and put me at ease straight away. They did everything in their power to accommodate to the needs of my dogs and the staff gave them both so much fuss before and after the appointment to reassure my dogs. Such an amazing team! So thankful.

Negative experience: What's happened to this country! And it appears our vets have jumped in on the act too. Gone are the days when vets actually give a toss about our pets, our animals, but care more about their pockets, and this seems disappointingly true of this vet surgery as well. Several times we've requested a prescription so that we can get the drugs our dog needs from a different and less expensive source, and yet they repeatedly delay, to force us to buy them through them it seems! We'll be changing our vets!!

Fantastic experience: Yesterday I took our pug Theo for his yearly vaccine, Theo’s not a fan of the vets, he remembers when he’s had eye ulcers (his 1st ulcer was soo bed he nearly lost his eye, luckily that didn’t happen) He gets very aggressive (a pug, aggressive, I know) So yesterday, we had a lovely vet, who came down to his level, checked his heart rate, quick play with him, we decided not to put him on the table for his vaccine, so she did it while he was on the floor, no aggression at all, so thank you The lovely receptionist has now put that on his notes, so thank you for a stress free vets visit

Positive experience: My cats were treated lovely when I visited with them. They were not rushed out of their carriers. They did it in their own time. The vet and his assistant were lovely. They spoke to the cats and treated them gently and put them at ease. Overall a stress free visit . I do like the separate cat area and the shelves to put the carriers in.

Fantastic experience: Excellent vet group. All the vets are personable and thorough. Our dog had an emergency medical issue today and we were seen within 30 minutes of calling.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely wonderful staff, very knowledgeable, kind and compassionate. The nurse doing the intake form with me noticed I was shaking with worry over my dog's operation and really helped make me feel better about it all, explained anything and everything I needed or wanted to know. They didn't try to upsell me on all sorts of extras either, just what was sensible and warranted (X-ray, histopathology). Kept me informed the whole way through when she left surgery and when I could pick her up, made certain I knew what to do with her medications and what she shouldn't be doing for a bit while she recovered. Happy for me to call with any concerns too, and made sure aftercare appointments (included in operation price) were all booked before we left.

Fantastic experience: I have always found all branches of Tower Vets friendly and efficient , they have always given great service and they have the back up of a 24 hour emergency service.

Negative experience: Seems to be a high turnover of staff, so it's impossible to build a relationship with a vet you trust and who knows your animal. This also means that you get varying opinions and practices from multiple vets which especially in my case was extremely detrimental. I've also had varying experiences with the receptionists, at least once they were extremely unpleasant and unhelpful (and gave me completely incorrect information). It can often be difficult to get medications dispensed and records updated/referred to, which means you have to chase things up all the time, and I found requesting prescriptions on their website to be unreliable. They charge for a lot of things that seem unnecessary (they'll take your pet's blood pressure in consultation and charge you extra for it, for example) but I suppose that's normal for vets these days. They got some things right and carried out successful procedures in my time with them, but ultimately it's definitely a no from me.

Really friendly staff on reception and the vet answered all the questions we had and made our puppy feel at ease with treats whilst vaccinating. We used Tower Vets for our last dog our beautiful Labrador , which they cared for with professionalism and compassion. Can highly recommend

Fantastic experience: I've been visiting this Vet since a little girl. Yesterday I took my little puppy Penny, having bought her nearly six months old and her first time venturing out and a ride in the car. The staff were very kind as she was so nervous and a thorough checkup and advice was given. She was given a vaccine, no problem with treats, and her second due in a month and she is a nervous pup but it went very well. Great staff

Negative experience: With only one days notice I receive an email saying that my branch is closing so I have to either travel 18 miles in future or find a new vet. I understand your reasons for closing my branch but I think one months notice is reasonable. One days notice is disappointing.

Fantastic experience: They are always so nice, knowledgeable and kind. They are also incredibly sensitive to how difficult sometimes it is to bring your pet to the vets. My dog, Pedro, approves.

Negative experience: I had one of my kittens spayed here as she was adopted from BOR so we had a voucher. When i brought her in the morning, i was waiting well over 45 mins to be seen with a stressed kitten, then when i was seen the nurse went through everything with me, but then mentioned my kitten would be spayed on the side, not on the middle of her stomach like Minster Vets do. I questioned this and she said it’s the vets preference, when we took her home, we kept her in one room, I had a look at the stitches and I couldn’t believe mess they made stitching up, it was as if they rushed it. My kitten then started jumping up etc as cats & kittens do, and eventually opened up the stitches. ( We have another kitten who was spayed on the middle of her stomach at Minster Vets and we never had a problem with her jumping up etc and she healed within the 10 days) We were in and out of the vets for 4 weeks after her spay, we eventually had to put her in a dog crate for nearly 2 weeks to let it heal as one of the vets in Acomb rudely spoke to me and said she’ll have to get stitched back up unless we keep her in a cage for 1-2weeks, baring in mind she’d already been stuck in the same room for 3 weeks prior. I took her to Minster Vets and they were shocked as to why they spayed her on her side, as that’s “old school” in their words, and they said that would’ve been the reason as to why it took ages to heal, because it was pulling on her skin a lot more compared to having the operation done on the middle of her stomach. I definitely won’t be taking any of my cats back here, and I’ll stick to my original vets in future.

Fantastic experience: We are thrilled with our experience of Tower Vets in Fulford! Becky is the best vet we’ve ever had and she is so good with our nervous rescue dog - we’ve gone from having to have her muzzled with previous vets to Becky being able to draw blood muzzle-free! As our dog has a few health conditions that have us at the vets semi-regularly it is a huge weight off our minds to find a place that understands her needs. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Fantastic experience: Amazing vets. We were originally with Minster Vets from 2008 to 2013 ish, but switched to Tower as someone we knew was a vet there. As well they have a branch in Acomb so it was easier for us to get to from Rufforth. Tower vets have been amazing for us over the years. We've had the highs and the very lows with animal ownership and Tower have been incredible. The ONLY downside is if you need an Emergency Vet. Whilst they are linked with York Emergency Vets over at Salisbury road, your pet needs transferring between Tower Vets and YEV for any overnight stay and then back again for day-care at Tower. As a person unable to drive, it is expensive and an extra worry. They do offer YEV transfer transport for you but it comes at an additional cost. Which I absolutely understand the need for, but for me it's an extra worry on top of an already stressful situation. But I can't think of a way round this, other than to switch to Minster Vets which I'm reluctant to do. Tower Vets have seen us through the best and worst of times with our cats and dog. Their compassion is excellent and if something goes wrong or not quite right, it is always ✨immediately✨ resolved. Their staff are all extremely lovely, knowledgeable and clear animal lovers.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazed by the staff at this practice after having a bad experience with the previous vets we used, I came away feeling confident in their capabilities and Linda is an absolute asset, I couldn't believe my nervous dog took treats from her, such a lovely person and we will definitely be back for some confidence sessions. I went to minster vets and they referred me a to a specialist. My dogs condition is so much better and getting better every day. I will be in touch for a refund of every penny you took from me. I will spend alot of money just to take you guys to court if not. Unbelievable

Fantastic experience: I had a springer Bertie with bacterial dermatitis who saw the same vet every month for almost a year. We lost him after taking him to the emergency pet hospital. When I saw the vet he cried with me. I have a 15 year old springer Bobo who is on monthly injections, the staff and kind, caring and extremely knowledgeable. I also have a 5 year old cockerpoo who is treated beautifully to ensure he isn't scared to go and see them. I would highly recommend Tower vets. Xxx

Negative experience: Bad bad vet. Sent my dog home with an ongoing issue that got worse after he was sent home. When I voiced this at reception I was threatened that my dog would not be seen again through a letter. A different vet sees the dogs every time and they don't have a clue what the previous person has done. If you care about your dog do not use this vet. Rachel Bishop and Lisa winter are the worst two people that I have delt with at the practice. Lisa winter is supposed to be practice manager yet she sent me a letter threatening me instead of trying to find out the issue and fix it. Absolutely appalling. Could give -1 if I could

Fantastic experience: Where to begin.......we recently had the misfortune of losing our very beloved cat Tiggipig who was poorly for about 10 days prior to our decision to let her go (she was my world). The Vet and the Vet Nurse (I'm sorry I don't know your names) we're nothing short of amazing. I was a complete mess but was allowed to hold Piggy whilst the Vet administered a sedative prior to the final injection. Piggy fell asleep in my arms and was wonderfully relaxed and unstressed, watching the birds from the large picture window prior to the last injection. Every care was taken with Piggy, my husband and I and every wish we had for the end was met and surpassed. They made a very difficult day into a day we can remember with happy hearts. The compassion and empathy were genuine and beyond kind. We received a Sympathy card today from the Vets, which was just lovely and another example of the kindness and caring shown. You really are THE BEST Vets I've ever patronised and I will be back with parts of my menagerie in the future. You deserve so much more than my thanks, you made Tiggipig's last day very beautiful. Since the interior was redesigned, creating a more user-friendly environment, I have found it to be even better. I feel as though the vet really cares about both pet and owner, is ready to answer any question and keen to impart knowledge that would be helpful. We are lucky to live within easy reach of this practice.

Positive experience: Took the cat along for his booster injections for flu etc.. The staff were welcoming, the place was clean and uncluttered The building is olde worlde.

Fantastic experience: Dr Elizabeth Britz (veterinary surgeon) has been a breath of fresh air for us. Since moving to the area in June we needed to find a new vet to look after our 13 y/o dog. She diagnosed his ongoing ailments in a matter of minutes and has been on hand to advise us moving forward. Olli hasn’t been this happy in a long time and we cannot thank Elizabeth enough.
