Negative experience: Following my decision to adopted my neighbours wee dog after him sadly passing away I would like to express my deep disappointment in the PDSA , I attended the PDSA in Edinburgh for treatment for an ear infection in December 25 I was informed she needs to be neutered in march 26 , I have since been informed , there are no appointments for march and it may be as late as may 26 ,if indeed , I can actually get an appointment, correct me if I'm wrong but I thought pdsa was set up to care for the well-being of animals and their owners who can ill afford the veterinary inflated prices ?? Have this charity lost its principles? Very disappointed

Negative experience: Shocking, called twice on their emergency number was cut off once then was on hold oven an hour, then tried to book online and it tells me i am not registered although i am, as it was an emergency i went to the closest vet to have my Dog seen to and paid nearly £600 i didn’t have.

Fantastic experience: We used the PDSA Edinburgh for a span of 3 months when my cat was poorly. Every single member of reception staff and vet we dealt with was compassionate, friendly, and helpful. Sadly for us the outcome was having to put our almost 15 year old cat to sleep as there was just no more that could be done to help her and on the day when we got there I asked at reception if we would be waiting long as the reason we were there was for ethenisation, she was very empathetic and took my cat to get pre prep'd and we were quickly moved into a little side room and the vets were so kind and caring and treated my cat and my family with the utmost respect and care during the difficult time. I cannot fault anyone in the practice as I had no bad experience. The wait time can be particularly lengthy but that is to be expected with the strain they are all under being the only practice serving Edinburgh and the Lothians so we didn't mind too much and planned ahead for each visit. I cannot thank them enough for everything they done for us :)

Negative experience: Mother donated 50 g at least ya robbing barstools could answer your phone. I've been with your get since 5 years old on bridges in Edinburgh. Your now and corporate company. Your were ment to help people who can't afford expensive vets .shame on you ta robbing barstools

Positive experience: I have used the P.D.S.A. for many years and can't fault the service. Indeed, the vets there saved my youngest dog's life. When my oldest dog had to be uethenised, the staff were very considerate and sympathetic. They arranged my dog's cremation and had the ashes, which were in a sealed metal container, delivered to me.

Fantastic experience: Excellent vets that give up their time to help animals with owners that have little finances. So long as you get housing or council tax benefit and the PDSA are taking on new Clients. The 1st animal is free , second and more paid for. Still when paying it's very cheap. 25 pounds initially and about 15 pounds for 3 medications for a week or so. So 40 pounds total for a minor injury. Even if you don't have the funds they will see the pet and treat them. A veterinary surgery would be 40-60pounds on average to make the initial appointment. Lovely staff and great price. Only grumble is sometimes it is like a chemist at 9am when all the people on daily supervised drugs are mullling about with animals on top . Although this isn't always the case as a lot of people are very kind . Little niggle is 9 out of 10 times they are half HR to HR late. Tbh when getting great value with proper vetinary surgeons who am I to complain. It's a great service that's overly used and abused . Many animals would suffer without such a place.

Fantastic experience: I recommend 100% Ms. Ola the receptionist, it's not because she's from Poland like me, she's a wonderful person, thank you very much for your help, translation and that warmth radiating from your eyes.

Fantastic experience: It took six times the average dose of the meds to put my boy under for a GA so they can take bloods from him and do other tests . Staff were Amazing if not a little terrified of him ..he is really a big softie

Fantastic experience: Great help unfortunately had to have cat put down but where so good about everything.

Theo Priestley Posted on Google 4 months ago

Fantastic experience: Staff were amazing during a very difficult and emotional decision to say goodbye to our 15yo Maine Coon due to sudden ill health. For someone who was made redundant and can no longer afford vet bills or pet insurance, the PDSA were a godsend during this time. Please leave a donation if you can.

Negative experience: bad hospital, my pet budgie was dying and they kept on asking for unnecessary details and acting stupid, my father asked them “so if my pet is dying these unnecessary details are more important?” And they said yes, do not go to this hospital in an emergency. They wasted all of our time and our budgie sadly passed away

Negative experience: My pet was in serious pain and suffering and all I kept getting is we can't help. We're not taking new people and go to another vets. My pet was left suffering while they were unsympathetic while I was having a panic attack and trying everything to get him help. DO NOT RECOMMEND. THEY WILL TURN YOU AWAY.! no such thing as sympathy with these people.

Fantastic experience: Beware of sitting on hold for an hour just for them to hang up on you before answering the call… besides that, can’t thank the vets enough for there help with my dog.

angela angel Posted on Google 8 months ago

Negative experience: I do not recommend the worst clinic I was in!!!I came with a sick cat, apart from taking blood, they gave him nothing medications and the cat overflows through my hands. They are not even able to answer the basic questions about the treatment of animals.Avoid this clinic with a wide arc because they will finish your animals

kurt christie Posted on Google 9 months ago

Negative experience: On hold emergency call for 37 minutes just for them to answer and ignore me and then hang up.

John Highet Posted on Google 9 months ago

Fantastic experience: Just a vets that cares about animals, came across in every way with all the members of staff I had the pleasure of interacting with...a vets where it appears the animal matters more than the money and the treatment we received was so nice and very much appreciated , Thank u all pdsa edinburgh

Negative experience: I used this vet awhile back while i still had a dog, This vet was only meant to take out one of his teeth but instead removed every tooth in his mouth without asking or notifiying us which was disgusting it completly destroyed his self esteem he just wasnt the same dog after ALL his teeth were removed, after writing a letter addressing this they apologised saying it was student vets that preformed his care. Reluctantly i decided to give this vet another chance, when my dog called skip who was a collie had a throat infection they mispreformed his surgery and kept him two extra days providing "treatment". We tried to visit him during this but they wouldnt allow it, my rescue dog died alone and scared in this vet when he was healthy beforehand. Please if you love your pets dont let this happen to them, I still blame myself for trusting this practice

Negative experience: I had an appointment for my pet at the hospital in Edinburgh I was trying to re remain the appointment for another day I spent almost 2.5 hours on the telephone do endosphere get reply from them I attended the veterinary surgery spoke to a receptionist customer services skills my dog was poorly more polite than she was reschedule my appointment she said to me if you're not happy you can go to a private veterinary surgery then I requested emergency medication for my animal your pet has to be seen first I also an appointment then she replied to me the closest when we have if it's not an emergency I said I wouldn't be standing here if it wasn't an emergency I would be better off going to a private vet some of the people in the show today and the animals pole had more intelligence and manners than the Women Behind the Counter

TEGROF Posted on Google 11 months ago

Negative experience: Getting an appointment is not easy obviously overwhelmed everyday been trying to get through to them since Monday zero reply

Louise Miller Posted on Google 11 months ago

Negative experience: So I attended with my dachshund at 8.30pm on the 1st of June because he couldn't move his back legs. We attended the Edinburgh hospital and waited to be seen. When he was getting his consultation, we were told it could be a suspected IVDD, she would need to get a referral made, she took him through the back and gave him pain meds and he got a catheter to drain his urine as he couldn't do the toilet. Little boy was sent home with no pain meds only the ones he got in there. It's now 7.02am the 2nd of June and hes been crying since the back of 5 with pain. How the hell is he meant to cope until he gets a referral for an MRI? Bearing in mind this is to do with his spine and his back legs are limp, no movement in them whatsoever. Also never got instructions on how to help him do the toilet, so he's meant to struggle on, so I've had to do my research, bloody may as well do the job for her after now paying for the service. So for a consultation, pain meds they gave him through the back and a catheter, it cost £404 and he never even got pain meds home. The care was lacking and I am disgusted at the service. The lady on the reception with the green scrubs and glasses was bloody abrupt to the animals owners and it was every person she dealt with, it was unreal what I was witnessing. Look I understand they are a charity but I paid my way and now I have a wee boy at home in pain crying with nothing to help him. The service here is a joke and it's not the first time I've witnessed it, my cat was brought in here and the service was terrible yet again. I will be taking this matter much further. Your meant to care for animals but my dachshund is at home in pain struggling. You would think sending home a dog with suspected IVDD, they would give him something to settle him until he's properly seen, I'm angry right now, hate seeing any animal in pain but when it's your own, you feel helpless. They aren't a charity, they are money grabbing ediots!!!!!

Fantastic experience: Helped us so many times with my cat and dog. Went there couple of days ago for my dog's broken claw. There was a little wait but you can't blame them they are quite busy and when we got called in the vet was very nice and fixed my dog up. Gave them a donation as well ☺️

Fantastic experience: We have a diabetic dog, and we buy insulin at a third of the price, a private vet charges, great service

Lia Rose Posted on Google 1 year ago

Positive experience: I think they are seriously overwhelmed by the numbers of pets needing help. It feels like some staff who work there don't know what the out of hours service and costs are. My friend who I took was a bit bamboozled at information a nurse told her as was told something different the previous day. Needs more vets desperately as my pup was knocked off the accepted list for castration as staffing was bad. I applied three times and third time i was told id be seen but when i got in touch after waiting 3 weeks after PDSA emailed to say they d be in touch. I have had to go private to get service or pup will be too old, advised within guidelines, to get castrated after 2 years. Not helped me but helped a great many others.

Fantastic experience: From the first emergency phone call, to arrival at the surgery, finally to seeing the vet and diagnosis for our dog, these people were fantastic. Pleased to day Zakk is making great progress too. Very caring people.

Yvonne Neilson Posted on Google 1 year ago

Negative experience: The receptionist who I spoke with today, absolutely disgusting, she shouldn’t be working there, she put the phone down on me in mid conversation. I had to put 1 star….actually I wouldn’t give any stars.

Fantastic experience: A great hospital if you can't afford a private vet. They go above and beyond to help

George Smith Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Absolutely fantastic treatment and staff . This is a tremendous service. However how can some people attend. Get treatment and pay NOTHING. Others complain about waiting time.( Go to a vet and pay a FORTUNE in bills . Please don't sit waiting and keep moaning) Have never seen anyone arriving in an old car

Fantastic experience: We would like to thank the dedicated and caring staff who took care of Bubbles. We appreciate the care and love you gave her till the end. Thank you

Rachel Harris Posted on Google 1 year ago

Positive experience: Helped my cat out of hours emergencies, very grateful for that. Could do with improving customer care though! You're wrong about the cats not needing their human parents in the consulting rooms though as I've noticed that with another vet that now covid restrictions are lifting she's much better with me in the consulting room and likes me close as separated a bit too young from her mum. Glad PDSA exists but wish they were friendlier. Also if overloaded offer more help by phone and antibiotic etc. Help people help themselves.

Cammy Stewart Posted on Google 1 year ago

Negative experience: After our cat being put down due to a clot in the heart, my devastated partner left in tears. After scrambling to sort transport, going through the euthanisation process and the long journey of devastation back home.. surely that isn't the peak of the sadness? Nope. The vetenarian took it upon himself to tick a box without any consideration for my partner or the children by processing our cat towards cremation with other animals. There was NO mention of this from the vetenarian or my partner & it was only until the Monday she called that she had found out this was carried out. The vetenarian is lying claiming he did not do this but you can tell straight from the tick itself who done it. Would NOT recommend this vet until an honest non-bias investigation is carried out. Edit: After close to 2 months+, we have ONLY had a response stating an investigation will take place and THAT IS ALL. They only emailed us because of THIS REVIEW. Avoid at all costs! Complaint submitted to RSVS.

Maggie Williamson Posted on Google 1 year ago

Negative experience: Took our dog on Sunday as she had a still birth at 2am then nothing. We're told by vet the pups were dead. We were devastated. Then at 5pm our dog gave birth to a beautiful healthy pup. Then a second pup at 10pm. The strange thing was I could hear a heartbeat with stethoscope. Needless to say not happy

Pallavi Menon Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: By the time I got to the hospital, my baby dog was too far gone for the emergency vet to be able to help her, but the staff were very kind and able to deal with me at my lowest point. I will always be grateful for that.

Joanne Adams Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Very happy with this service always friendly and polite and they do a great job

Bill McNie Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Took our 22 year old cat to be put down by the PDSA team in Chesser a couple of weeks back. The staff were extremely respectful and professional and the whole process was very quick. We opted to get our cat individually cremated and have the ashes returned to us in an urn - we received the urn in the post today and it's a lovely item. Top class service from start to finish - thank you.

Marta Dłubek Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Absolutely fantastic place! I took my 10.5 year old staffordshire with a pyometra in a really bad state. They have taken the greatest care of her and even tho she had a slow recovery, she got the surgery done and is a brand new dog just 1.5 weeks later. I don't know how to thank you for saving her life. Would highly recommend the place and every single person I have interacted with over the few days my dog was in your care. The right people in the right place ! Just brilliant.

Luisa Barclay Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Very professional service. I just really wish I could remember the name of the vet we saw! She was so calm and gentle with our sixteen year old cat last night during an emergency appointment and went out of her way to discuss our options and reassure us. Thankfully, Poppy is now recovering at home after her visit and is doing much better. All of the information about the out of hours appointment was sent to our usual vet’s practice with no issues. Absolutely fantastic service if you ever need to see a vet at short notice at night or on the weekends in an emergency.

Fantastic experience: Vetsnow - came in a while ago to get our dog seen to. Super professional staff! Came in again later on and Tiffany was incredibly helpful in getting all the documents we needed. Great team!

James Lagarde Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Thank you to Alistair who saw my 19 year old cat Fred this morning on an emergency appointment when he was very unwell. Unfortunately he had to be put to sleep but I thank Alistair for explaining the options and procedures with great kindness and compassion, including giving me time with Fred. I don't wish for anyone to go through what we did, but should that time come, you and your furry friends will be greatly looked after at PDSA Edinburgh.

Alan Milroy Posted on Google 2 years ago

Negative experience: Receptionist was rude and was more interested in telling us not to walk on her mopped floor also did not offer our poorly little dog some water when it was obvious she was panting and in distress. We were refused treatment with PDSA and told basically our dog can die rather than receive treatment as we did not fall under a ridiculous area code. We had to use VETS NOW who share the same building but are private so had to pay over £400 for our dog to be seen although we were so glad our dog was seen by a lovely vet and she was ok so thank you to VETS NOW and no words for PDSA other than train your receptionist on being more caring and our dog could or would have died unless we had money to pay for her treatment.

Kirsty Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Used pdsa a few times with my dog every member of staff I came across was friendly and very helpful very knowledgeable. I recently had to make the hard choice to say see you later to my fur baby the 2 staff members who helped with the situation were very caring and supportive not only for my beautiful dog but also for my family ❤️ they didn't rush us they gave us plenty of time with our furr baby to say goodbye I will.forever grateful for the team and the amazing job they do !

Fantastic experience: Visited with my cat (Ninja) after him taking really unwell. Sadly he had to be put to sleep after lots of tests. I would like to thank all staff in the way he was cared for. Staff where absolutely amazing and so helpful. Allowed me to comfort him and spend time with him. All dealt with in a very careful and professional manner. Outstanding service and keep up the good work.

Audrey Gray Posted on Google 2 years ago

Positive experience: Chummed a friend. Place was heaving. One woman was still waiting an hour after her appointment. One of the receptionists was rude by discussing my friends business so loudly that everyone could hear. I know it's free for one pet if you can't afford to pay but that's no reason to be horrible.

Maja Zan Posted on Google 2 years ago

Negative experience: I was there today with 1 from 4 our pets. We have continued diarrhoea problems with all of them. I don't know how many time I been there alread with the same problem never resolved. And again I was charge fees and get the same medication which are not helping. My appointment was one hour later than should and took us maybe 5 min in a consultation because vet was in rush. Really disappointing visit. Wasting money and time! Where is amazing staff from before very helpful and with lots of love for animals?

Alfie Plays Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Took my poorly hamster to see the out of hours service. Unfortunately, the outlook for him wasn’t good so had to make the decision to let him go, but the whole process was handled with incredible empathy. I got to sit with him as he went and spend as much time as I needed with him. Whilst I hope I don’t have to use the service again in future simply because I don’t want my pet to be ill, I would use it again in a heartbeat. Grateful for the sensitive way they handled everything, despite the sad outcome.

Lauren Anderson Posted on Google 2 years ago

Negative experience: It states that all animals should be scanned but yet they get a stolen dog in and treat her then hand her back to the person that stol the dog knowing that its stolen as was informed by myself with pictures of the dog and people that have her

Colin Paterson Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Staff were fantastic, lovely and caring unfortunately it wasn't a visit we wanted to do but they were very respectful to our situation

Denise Farrell Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Outstanding service have had to use twice now during an emergency situation and the staff are incredible. They saved my male cat when he had a blocked ureter a few years ago and today my female cat threw a blood clot and couldn’t breathe the vets were amazing.

Sharon Robertson Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: I've used them on off through the years, and I've never had a bad experience with them. Decades ago, you were only asked for a donation, which I used to give. Now, you need to pay for certain proceduresand medicatios, depending on your income. It's not just people on full benefits but those on housing benefit too. Ask the staff what donations they need, eg, old bath/hand towels, puppy training pads, etc. I usually give them staff donations, too, especially at Christmas your allowed 1 animal free, I think, the other one you need to pay more for. It has a small carpark sometimes on street parking is available not all the time though.

Cat Collective Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Lovely vets with good animal and people skills. Its usually quite busy when we come in, but most the vets and nurses still take the time to answer my many questions and treat my fur babies with patience and care. Very thankful this service is available! Thank you My one suggestion for improving this service would be to consider having a separate waiting space dedicated to cats and other small animals who might get stressed around dogs. Fantastic experience: Great pet hospital. All the staff I met were very kind and caring. I didn't have to wait long for my dog to see the vet. My dog was treated well by the vet and after diagnosing his problem we were discharged with some medication for him. I was very happy with the service

Fantastic experience: This is an amazing vet proving to those who can't afford private vet care. Unfortunately it was also a very sad visit for my sister who had to put her amazing little cat to sleep due to old age and I'll health.

Negative experience: Even though I really appreciate their services, I have to admit that I was completely disappointed when I assisted an owner to take the dog to the emergency after a hit and run. I used all the first aid rules and while I informed about the dog's condition i.e. multiple broken bones mostly ribs, internal bleeding etc, and carried the dog with extreme caution on a carrier so that no movement was made, the nurse just lifted the dog from the car leaving me speechless... Eventually the dog passed away 20 minutes later. :( I hope it was just an unfortunate event but I would advise to be more careful when receiving a dog after a hit and run.

Fantastic experience: I can’t praise this place more highly and all the great work the PDSA does. My beloved cat of 15 years was put to sleep there last October, the vet was clear, honest, direct and let me hold my cat while he went to sleep forever. Now I have a young Ginger cat and yet again, everyone at the Edinburgh PDSA Pet Hospital have been professional and great…

Fantastic experience: Cared for my poorly cat again and again. Wonderful staff. Can't thank them enough. Help especially for those on UC but even then, the private people still not as high as other vets.

Fantastic experience: Quick and painless, for myself and dog, staff are friendly and helpful and as had Pablo on his back wanting belly rubs in record time. Keep it up. X

Fantastic experience: This is such a good charity for pet owners. They are so important helping owners and pets who haven't the money for insurance. They treat all pets every day including Sunday. A professional. A small donation is required after pets treatment.

Fantastic experience: My cat was booked in for an operation to remove a cyst. The staff took very good care of her and called me as soon as the operation was finished to let me know how it went and to arrange a time to collect her. Fantastic staff and facilities x
