  • Quick response times and efficient handling of emergencies.
  • Friendly and caring staff who are attentive to both pets and their owners.
  • Thorough examinations, with options explained clearly by knowledgeable veterinarians.
  • Compassionate treatment, especially during distressing situations.

However, it's important to note that several users have raised concerns about high costs associated with the service. Many reported feeling overwhelmed by expenses, particularly given the emergency nature of their visits. Specific feedback indicates:

  • Cost of medications and treatments often exceeds typical veterinary fees.
  • Instances of perceived dismissiveness from the veterinary staff during examinations.

Positive experience: Short wait, thorough examination. The cost is ridiculous though, I’m sure this puts people off using an out of hours service.

Fantastic experience: Had to use these guys in the early hours of Monday morning, and have to say they were really reassuring on the phone but also were more than happy to welcome us in to check my dog over. The cost is a lot more than local vets out of hours initial cost which was a shock however as I wasn’t registered at at that local vets I couldn’t attend however these guys would see us no matter what and that’s what’s worth paying for! Thank you so much, the staff on the phone, reception and the vet were all very helpful. The check out easy and yes they charge another £35 for admin to help you claim (I don’t agree with that) but at least this way I’m likely to get my money faster and it was so easy to reply to the email and it’s done! Thanks for being a part of helping my dog get better and helping through a painful evening. Photo 1 sad and feeling sorry for himself to photo 2 happy back in his chair feeling better!

Hi , we're delighted your pet is doing well. Wishing you both all the best. We also appreciate your feedback about the cost of our service. Generally, it’s a lot more expensive to run an out-of-hours clinic and our costs tend to reflect this. Positive experience: I attended after seeing my own vet on the Monday morning after my dog displayed symptoms of a problem that he had before Christmas. I attended Tuesday at 1am after he displayed distended tummy and labored breathing. We sat in the waiting room for twenty minutes whilst they dely with an emergency. I was asked before she examined him “are you sure you want me to look at him he looks fine” I said I’m very concerned, explained some back history. She examined him thoroughly and said he seems stable i can hear his heart clearly and his vitals are fine, we can take bloods and do a scan but you could take him your vets in 8 hours and it would be cheaper” I agreed to take him home. Long story he has declined is currently have a procedure on his heart. His heart has succumbed to damage due to pressure from fluid. To say I’m disappointed is a mild emotion. I’m devastated my dog has been in in-necessary pain since Monday which could have been picked up or listened better to the owner who knows their pet! I’ve spent £327 pounds o could have put towards his 600 scan. No pet owner has unlimited access to money and although we have insurance it’s paying upfront for these costs. More importantly my baby drowning in his own body fluids is the main point

Negative experience: Would not recommend. Was told on the phone that there will be a possibility of paying £320 for treatment of my cat, that's if he needed any. She didn't. All the vet did was check her eye and give her 3 eye drops and said to keep monitoring her for the next week. So I was like okay. Then the receptionist stopped me and told me to take a seat. They then called me up to pay bloody £380. My sister was the owner of the cat and he is o benefits and although I’ve been asked over the phone if we claim any benefits or not, the receptionist sat there and said there is nothing they can do. I have payed £100 as couldn’t afford more but they expect me to pay the rest. Don’t think so. For a 5 min visit and 3 drops this is beyond ridiculous. The nurses were very insistent to see them. The whole system needs sorting out. Appalling and outrageous!

Hi George, thanks for your feedback on the cost of our service. As you may be aware, it’s a lot more expensive to run an after-hours emergency vet service. The greater running costs we incur are reflected in our prices. Fantastic experience: Our old dog was very distressed and frightened to go outside more than a few yards. The emergency vet told us to take her in immediately. She diagnosed the problem (she’s suddenly lost her hearing and some of her sight) and sorted out meds to calm her and reduce her anxiety which she thought would help. They did…and 6 days later she’s a lot better and going for walks again

Negative experience: Very disappointed vet was rude. Lot of money for not a great response. Won’t be returning here

Amy Ward Posted on Google 5 months ago

Fantastic experience: We were worried as our dog had ingested a Christmas tart containing dark chocolate during the out of hours emergency period. We called first and they said to take her in, however, upon closer examination of the item she had consumed (from ingredients) they said she should be ok, and therefore only charged us for the active charcoal. We were so grateful for this kind decision, so please thank the team that was working 28.11.2025, as they couldn’t have been any more helpful.

Negative experience: Unfortunately my pet was taken into this vets after he was ran over by someone. And they rang to inform me. They had him for 2 weeks whilst i sorted his cremation through his insurance which was nice of them. But was not told there would be a £35 admin fee to fill up insurance papers. I spoke 3 different times with different people and was not once told about this also passed emails. However i contacted the main vets now and as a goodwill gesture they took the £35 off. Which was really thoughtful. I was then told they could give me a print of my cats nose - paws and fur to keep. I told them How it would be the best thing for me and id love to pick it up from them personally as i didnt live far. But i was reassured they will post it to me. Its been over 2 weeks, iv not got the prints or his fur. I rang to ask if they had sent it off and i was put on hold and then told it was sent 10 days ago. The lady on the phone told me to contact the courier service to ask where it is. Bare in mind they did not give me a tracking number or anything for me to do this, but when i asked which courier service she said she dosnt know. I felt my heart sink as this was the only thing i would have had left of him. I asked her to transfer me to the MK branch but she said as the person that posted it isnt in the office no one could answer the phone. I found this very upsetting and unprofessional. Its been in 16 days and i still havnt got anything through the post.

Negative experience: The reception team are so welcoming and sensitive. The vet I saw seemed to have a heavy cold and he was not very communicative. He did not even examine my dog (who had and still has a stomach problem). He only took a temperature and then leaned nonchalantly against the wall, shrugged and suggested bloods. He then took him away with no explanation of what my dog was being tested for. I felt like he was very dismissive of a very anxious dog owner, no communication skills and not an ounce of empathy. I had to ask to speak to someone else in order to find out next steps for my dog. Paid £520 to be treated like an inconvenience. Previous visits have been wonderful though.

Negative experience: My cat was bitten by a dog and a piece of his ear was left hanging off. Our regular vets advised us to take him to the emergency vet to ensure it was removed properly and wouldn’t cause further issues. Unfortunately, the experience was appalling. The vet nurse literally yanked the piece of his ear off without any pain relief whatsoever and then casually said, “Oops, I thought that was dried blood.” I was absolutely shocked. Not only was this incredibly unprofessional and careless, but it also showed a complete lack of compassion for my cat. Throughout the visit, the nurse were robotic, dismissive, and unwilling to answer our questions. There was no empathy, no reassurance, and no sense of care for either my pet or us as worried owners. Overall, it was an awful and deeply upsetting experience. I would never trust them with my pet’s care again.

Positive experience: Excellent service from phone call to arrival and my 4 day pup was taken out the back immediately. Nurses and staff very kind,I left the vet with my pup and was advised he was too small for any pain relief, another one of my dogs had caused puncture wounds. All unsure whether he would survive but told mums milk was the best thing for him.He is still with us and doing well.I Hector mini daxie, thankyou. The only reason 4 stars instead of 5 is the price, his antibiotics cost 12 pence the bill was just over £180.00.

Claire Bailey Posted on Google 9 months ago

Negative experience: 2 stars because Chris who we spoke to on the phone was polite. Brought my dog in out of hours - the vet we met Caroline has to be to rudest person I've ever dealt with. After rolling her eyes at 'not insured' she failed to take a history as she was too busy faulting our normal vet - hostile and confrontational. I felt absolutely terrible leaving my dog here as the consult was truly horrible. Fees are insane. For an ultrasound scan, a set of bloods and an IV bag my bill was 2k which is to be inspected since small animal vets are being investigated for this.

Fantastic experience: On Sunday my dog had a stick injury. VetsNow were amazing. Vets Maria and Caroline were great with him and me (who was extremely emotional) The nurses (whose names I didn’t catch) were so kind and made me feel so comfortable ❤️ They promptly referred him for surgery at Davies, they were clear about cost and gave me clear options and helped me to guide my decision. Very grateful for this service

Rod Law Posted on Google 10 months ago

Negative experience: ARCHIE our 6yr old black Lab ate something/did something last Sunday while out for his morning walk. Got home and he went "dead" asleep latharp shallow rapid breaths laying in bear lke position with paws/legs forward head slumps forward neck chin bottom jaw flat on the floor. Wife not happy. Attended pratice in Walnut Tree on Sunday afternoon explained all the facts to the vet. After relatively cursory examination no temperature taken basically ineffective visit to the scales recording a far too high a weight guesstimate because Archie was too hyper and living up to his disco bum nickname. The vet did check his heart rate but he's a painter so not easy to be accurate. His condition was no better so he visited Willow Vets in Olney yesterday totally different attitude temperature taken heart rate checked weight checked possible problem diagnosed medication prescribed. Today Archie back to his old self the 7 day course of tablets started and appear to be working. Very very disappointed in the costing of £325 for the Sunday visit with no result against £65.50 yesterday. For pensioners hard to swallow let alone afford.

Eve R Posted on Google 10 months ago

Negative experience: Our dog was projectile vomiting and refusing to eat, so we rushed him to Vets Now. We explained that he had swallowed two pieces of corn on the cob a few weeks ago, and we had only seen one come out. We were worried there was a blockage. The vet immediately said, "Forget about that, there's no way it would still be in there," and made us feel like we were being ridiculous for even bringing it up. Fast forward to today, 3 vets and 6 days later, and our dog now has a 50/50 chance of survival after having a piece of corn on the cob surgically removed from his abdomen. The absolute irony is that Vets Now have a blog article on the topic of corn on the cob and how serious they can be if eaten, so why was it dismissed so readily in our case? What makes this so upsetting is that our concerns were completely dismissed. If the first vet had taken us seriously, this could have been caught much earlier and our dog wouldn’t be in this life-threatening situation. Instead, we were made to feel stupid...and now our dog is the one suffering for it.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely excellent service from the people on the phone and in the surgery. Kind and friendly receptionist and can't fault the vet I saw (Caroline) as she is my usual and favourite vet at my usual practice. My only problem is the eye-watering out of eye consultation fee. I would expect to pay extra for out of hours, but I think that was over the top. However, I am extremely grateful for the service being there when needed. Definitely recommend them though. Negative experience: Had to use the emergency vets and Vets Now were open. Went down to get an enema to be given to my cat for constipation and the nurse came out to take him which I didn't understand so I asked if I could go in with him as this is what usually happens at a vet appointment. She was funny with me and said "Errr, yes?". I followed her into the surgery and apologised and told her I assumed I'd be there with him. She was still snarky with me so I left my boy to her as he had to be held down by another nurse, which I also didn't know. This nurse made me feel bad and I was already stressing. Not kind or professional.

Negative experience: My dog died of lymphoma due to mis diagnosis, negligence and clinical errors. Even with bundles of evidence from the oncologist Who diagnosed it- they still declined to see their errors. I hate this practice. I hate the vet that dismissed my dogs coughing and swelling for laryngeal paralysis…if they hadn’t of misdiagnosed him he would’ve had 14 months- 2+ years….yet he had only 4-5 months because of the delay in diagnosis and the treatment of steroids which made the cancer more resistant They offered £100 of the £2000 they stole. And my dog still died in pain because of them So much more to the story than I have said- I will also be going to the newspapers now I hope karma comes for you Rest in peace buddy- 08/02/2017-20/06/2025

Negative experience: Brought my dog in who was having a severe collapse episode, was told to wait in reception… not good when you fear for your dogs life. Vet was great when we saw him and put our minds at rest with the diagnosis which was luckily not life threatening, although her symptoms looked it. One staff member on reception kept saying how this place is awful and hates it there… awful customer service. If they took a more professional approach to what seemed like a life treating condition, and reassured us, I would give a much better review. Oh and staff member on reception being extremely negative needs addressing.

Negative experience: The service is fine, it's just a normal vets, but the pricing is predatory and extortionate. £325 just to be seen (with no idea what the cost of any treatment will be until you get there). I appreciate it's out of hours but to 10x the price to me seems as though pet owners are being preyed upon as they have no other choice.

Fantastic experience: Always been a great vets over the last 5 years. The reviews on here are massively varied but we have always had great services and our cats have been cared for. Vets have been great and so have the reception staff. I do like that the carpark is close so carrying our cats is easy and they have a separate waiting area for cats and dogs

Negative experience: READ THE REVIEWS BEFORE CALLING PEOPLE!!! DO NOT USE THESE GUYS, FIND AN ALTERNATIVE!!!! My normal vets were closed so had to use these cowboys. Keep a long story short, my cat was showing signs of UTI, he's had a UTI before which was treated with antibiotics so knew the signs and what he needed. Took him in, the vet was NOT interested in treating for a UTI, refused to give him antibiotics, gave him a random injection and tried to send him on my way. I ended up arguing with the vet and demanding antibiotics. VET claimed cats do not UTI's even though mine had been treated for one previously!!! Ended up leaving with cat untreated as vet was too stubborn to admit he was wrong AND £300 down. Took him straight to my normal vets the next morning and guess what he was prescribed and treated for? Antibiotics for a UTI and he made a full recovery. Ended up opening up a complaint with them and got my funds back from my credit card provider. Cowboys, DO NOT USE!!!!!!!

Negative experience: If I could give zero stars I would. We took our very poorly ragdoll cat on Saturday night having become deeply concerned at his lack of appetite, coughing, gagging and lethargic demeanor. The vet was extremely abrasive, he was very rough with our gentle boy when checking him. He kept saying he couldn't talk to the animals so he could just give anti nausea (despite our cat not having vomited) and pain relief and we could monitor. Upon injecting the medication he was so rough he drew blood on our cat. Moreover, he appeared to not be very familiar with handling cats and would jump back at every movement of our dear boy. He then told us to wait in reception and never came back. We were just sat there for longer than we were in the consultation room. And then we were charged £440! This was an entirely traumatic experience for us and I wished I had read the other reviews before taking him here. Absolute charlatans who only seem to be good at putting animals down and taking your money. Please avoid.

Fantastic experience: Saw a vet very promptly out of normal working hours late Saturday night . Diagnosed issue and provided medication at the same time. I can’t fault the service provided.

Zach Oliver Posted on Google 1 year ago

Negative experience: Refused to give my dog a repeat prescription for the exact same issue. Were willing to let my dog suffer as I couldn’t afford another appointment, instead of giving him his medication. All just so they could get another appointment fee. Absolute disgrace.

Negative experience: Not a 1 star If I could give 0 stars for this place I would, very rude. Avoid at all costs this place is the worst vets ever they only want your money it’s nothing to do with the welfare of animals. I came in with my Birman which was very ill with high temperature they needed to take bloods for test and put her on IV fluids she was kept in over night on fluids, when I collected her the next day she looked like she’s been though the wars from a fluffy cat they shaved her neck, her two front legs and her back leg I know they needed to take bloods but I specifically said, do not touch her neck to take blood she will fight you as my vet ever does her neck from experiences but they ignored what I said. What upsets me she must of went through hell in that place they way she was treated disgusting. AVOID

Negative experience: Daylight robbery but for emergencies. Realised how poor and under valued animals are to humans. We have lost sight of empathy, love and care for one another that the company milks from the vulnerable. I’m no vet but I have cats and at the time my cat was in distress. Scared the life out of me so I called for emergency. Sadly at the time I couldn’t wait afford for my vets to be open and it was days away from Christmas, struggling financially and with mental health. I have my own personal problems but thankfully it’s temporary. My cat was so poorly at home. As soon as we got to vets now my cat suddenly looked well. His tooth had been sore and was about to come out but at the time he couldn’t close his jaw and it looked like I was going to loose him. I love my cats. Got to vets now and they assed my cat and said they did not see an emergency. They gave him an injection for pain. But being fully aware of my situation and explaining it clearly on the call…there was no sympathy, empathy, no humanity and showed how flawed this system is for animals and how as human beings we take advantage of the vulnerable people that actually love and care for their animals. I am now in £350 debt for nothing will accept that maybe I should have waited and not panicked suddenly. I did what any animal lover would do…put my needs aside and wanted what was best for my cat. I know others weren’t so lucky and my heart goes out to them that lost beloved animal. They’re family and do take a part of you regardless of wealth, status. He is doing fine now. Needs a proper check up and when I am able to I will get my cats all looked at properly and will approach a veterinary surgery that actually really cares. This whole experience was daunting and I cannot say that I was happy nor impressed

Fantastic experience: Today my dog was struggling to give birth and I was in desperate need of finding a vet . I decided to go to Vets now in Milton Keynes and I met there a lovely lady Georgina she is the best doctor that I ever met she took care of my dog I had a very good experience with her and all team . Thank you very much for everything you done for me and my dog xxx

Negative experience: Absolutely awful . Want to leave zero stars , but not an option. Was sent there as an urgent case last night. Little Teddy was suffering from convulsions and was in a desperate state. We got there , the vets came over and just grabbed him. Took him out the back where we sat for at least an hour. No updates and no empathy. She then bought him out and she put him down on the floor. He was flopping about and was too weak to stand. She picked him up plonked him on the table and told us that it would be £800 to start with. It would probably end up being £1800 up to £5000 ! When you love your pet you'de pay anything, but to be told to pay £800 by the next morning or take him home. That to me said it all. They don't care about your babies only the money. Please if you care about you pet , avoid Vets Now at Walnut tree milton keynes at all costs. Poor little Teddy passed away earlier today, but these people must be bought to task for the trauma caused to Teddy and us. RIP little man, we miss you and always will

Negative experience: Would not recommend. Was told on the phone that there will be a possibility of paying £300 odd for treatment of my cat, that's if he needed any. He didn't. All the vet did was check his mouth and took his temperature and said to keep monitoring him. So I was like okay. Then the receptionist stopped me and told me to take a seat. They then called me up to pay bloody £350. I claimed directly straight away as I was not going to pay that much money just for them to check my cat's mouth. It's been a few days now and still my insurance company has not received any details about the claim the vets apparently made on my behalf. Absolutely ridiculous that they try and charge us this much. At least make the prices reasonable. I would have paid £30 but not ten times that. The whole system needs sorting out. Appalling and outrageous!

Negative experience: Absolutely dreadful experience. If I could give 0 stars I would. Travelled to this clinic through a storm as our nearest out of hours from this chain was closed. Our dog was having what I had assumed were seizures. The vet was dismissive, told me that unfortunately he cannot speak to animals and couldn’t diagnose an issue. He gave my dog an anti-nausea injection despite him not having vomited. I was with the vet for less than 5 minutes. He then told me to wait in reception for him and never returned. I asked to speak with a manager but there wasn’t one. The receptionist was lovely and tried to help as much as she could, but obviously needed to charge me (the £320 consultation fee!!) The following morning we sadly had to have my dog put to sleep as he was so unwell. I have raised a formal complaint but have been told this will take up to seven weeks to resolve.

Positive experience: From the care, attention and professionalism side of things, Vets Now are amazing, really can’t complain. However, the costs levied are extortionate! I appreciate that they are an out of hours / emergency provider, but the fees are TEN TIMES the normal practice costs. When you are already in an anxious state because your beloved pet is ill, this just heightens the feelings. But then you are stuck…. What other options do you have…. They’ve got you!

Laura Kearsley Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Found a hedgehog in severe respiratory distress at 2 am. Only service around where I could talk to a very kind and patient nurse who helped me get the animal examined without cost. Unfortunately they had to be euthanized as ther were too far gone but the staff were AMAZING. They took care of me too and never rushed or dictated anything. Very kind people.

Claire marsden Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: The staff are the most loveliest bunch of people I have met, our cat got brought in after being involved in an accident and the lady I spoke with was so caring, I wish I got her name. They took good care of me and my family, gave us some of our cats fur and some paw prints with a card, if you ever have an emergency with any of your pets this is the place to go. The team are so empathetic and caring and we need more people like these vets.

Positive experience: This is the first time I’ve used Vets Now. The cost was over £400 in total so I probably won’t be using them again. Medically, a steroid injection and some ear drops were provided but they couldn’t clean the ears out because they were an emergency vet only ?

Debra Drinan Posted on Google 1 year ago

Negative experience: Our vital dog feeding regime not followed and our malnourished dog (has IBD) was given back refusing food (odd spoon of egg or salmon yesterday nothing today) and weak whereas was ravenous and less weak before admission. 48hrs later still not eating and looking very sick. Have had to see Vet every day since picking her up. Scan booked for tomorrow. So angry and sick with worry. Seeing a vet this afternoon. do not want her looked after by them ever again (our vet uses them for out of hours) Complained and they refused to consider her empty stomach syndrome could be cause. Stating normal for pets to go off food when stress from admission. Or could be due to drip. Refused to take on that her needs were not met when had alerted - which causes further issues. Also only tolerates certain proteins. The vet at vets now had no idea what protein was given. She always refuses food and poorly if too long with empty stomach which I told to 5 different people! Update: Given appetite stimulant by different vet day 3 and now eating.

Positive experience: An excellent service, speedy and professional. I do think the initial £309 flat fee is excessive but if it truly reflects the additional costs that a 24 hour practice expend then fair enough. Our cat’s abscess was treated and a care plan carefully explained.

Negative experience: I would had given zero stars if could. Attended couple nights ago for my Ragdoll cat. After explaining I had a video call with a vet by my insurance company I was advised it was deemed urgent and to get him to a vet. Beleive me I was well aware it was going to cost a disgusting price of £309 just for a consultation before any treatment. Knowing I have insurance and told by them to go I did not hestitate. Just so you know they do not give a flying toss insured or not, so I am confused why the receptionist told me bring photo ID & Policy documents. Rushing around to prepare all of this to be told irrelvant no matter what treatment is needed I pay upfront first and my job to claim back. So if your pet is going to cost a considerable amount be prepared you need to have the funds first! There are vets out there that accept your excess so find one. You also expect when paying £309 for five minutes £61.80 per minute you receive first class service. Think again you can do better by googling! The Vet spoke to me like I was completely wasting her time and said my Cat looked fine and is not an urgent case it can wait. Urgent or not I have no choice but to have the consultation now and you better give that service , if not..., Send me on my way and charge less. She accussed me of under feeding him, despite me advising nothing has changed but weight loss. Said he wasnt off colour and he looked fine. Made no eye contact with me what so ever. Offerered bloods to check dehydration although told me not dehydrated. She did not listen to my concerns and told me a dog fitting is more important. I paid £309 for five minutes of her talking to me like a child. Like we want to spend 70% more for no reason. Next day My own vet agreed he looks grey/pale heart rate elevated and now tests being done. With my own vet plus full set of bloods cost £184. Im not the only one saying how much the vet was disinterested and could not give a crap to find that actually your pet needed medical care. For that reason Im going to be speaking to legal on my insurance as they can look and listen to my video call before going and compare to 10am the next morning. I hope all of you that have been treated similar do the same and consider taking to court for paying for a service provided thats not actually been received. I beleive all this vet is interested in is making a quick buck! Only used as was my Vets out of hours service. This is the MK Vetinary Hospital

Negative experience: Really good to be able to be seen out of hours when my dog was injured but was a very rushed appointment with abrupt vet who although previously agreeing to us having 30 days to pay for the £310 fee to be seen said we couldn't do that as it wasn't life threatening (which was known when it was arranged). £380 for 6 Co codamol, 1 injection and about 5 minutes of the vets time would have been okay if the vet had not treated us like we were a inconvenience. The receptionist was lovely though.

Negative experience: Emergency Vet 7th July 7:30am - Walnut Tree MK NOT impressed with emergency vet, ZERO bedside manners - especially when paying such an extortionate consultation fee £309 just to walk in the door! No smile or warm greeting…just ”can you get her on the scale”. Which I did, she then commented “that’s some weight” or words to that effect… which got my back immediately up. The dog has had an awful start in life (rescue dog) and has been on steroids for 4 years - to comment, THREE times on dogs weight - without knowing her history is bang out of order, very judgemental. Negligent when dog was on the table (I’m one side and vets another side - dog was in with vestibular disease so very shaky/no control) my dog almost went over on her side and would of fell off if I hadn’t of grabbed her…..shocking and lack of attention and care. The coldest/worst vet I’ve ever seen, no compassion, no empathy or talking to soothe dog or me and seemed like it was the last place on earth she wanted to be. I regret that I didn’t tell her this at the time..(!) Seems very much a money making practice rather than genuinely care for your pets.. Reading the reviews, this isn’t a one off and nor is it difficult to fix/do, they need some customer service training! No doubt I’ll get the cut and paste response that you do with ALL reviews. Vets Now have you over a barrel and would not recommend! I’ll now be looking to change to independent vet who does their own out of hours. Zero stars!! UPDATE: I’ve emailed you with my details and phone number. Let’s see if you follow up and actually call me.. UPDATE: 12 August… only getting updates to say ‘reviewing your case’. It’s almost 5 weeks later. It feels like Vets Now want you just to forget about it and string you along. I want answers and what’s happened\acrioned since my complaint UPDATE: 2 Sept 2024. I still have not had any answers FORTY working days later. When chased they email saying it’s being looked into. Useless..!

Negative experience: Called about my puppy explaining his leg was obviously broken. Was told to go straight down to Walnut tree vet hospital. The vet was very nice but explained she would only give an injection but was unable to do anything out of hours. I was told to go to my usual vet in the morning. I was then charged £370 emergency fee. Bloody criminal and they capitalise on vulnerable people who want to do the right thing by their pets. If i was given the information that nothing would have been done that evening, I would have made a different decision. And put the £370 towards the present treatment he is now undergoing.

Negative experience: Took my pet rabbit to vets now Saturday morning because my normal vet opens mon-Friday. I was of course relieved to have experts on hand to help my pet, but I have to say the bill I received almost gave me a heart attack. With drugs. It was almost £700!! I think that’s atrocious and it feels like pet lovers like myself who are trying to do the best for their pet are being completely ripped off and exploited. I spoke to two other ladies when I was there who shared exactly the same thoughts. Something needs to be done in terms of what vet practices are permitted to charge as there is a real danger of people abandoning their pets due to these extortionately high vet bills. I would hope that vets enter the profession for the love of the animals they are looking to help so I’m sure they would not want abandoned pets on their conscience. Something needs to be done. We are ordinary people earning ordinary salaries.

Amy Hirson (A to Z Art) Posted on Google 1 year ago

Positive experience: It was expensive, but we knew that in advance. Our bad luck that our pup developed a problem on the weekend outside normal hours. We had to wait about 30 min to get seen. The Vet seemed knowledgeable, but it didn’t feel as though he did a very thorough exam. Just offered anti inflammatory. They were kind in a stressful situation which is what we hoped for.

Negative experience: We will never use this company again. Minus five stars. Really not impressed with the customer service from both nurses and vet. When I called with our emergency nurse was wasting time on asking me many unnecessary questions, I understand if she was asking for things related to the emergency but she seemed to be more interested in my address and phone number, what was worse, when we arrived another nurse was taking the same details from us because apparently it wasn't her who took our call (!?!) When it comes to our vet - she was rude and condescending, I'm not talking about her explanation and advice - she was just snappy and impatient. Veterinary service is extremely expensive and in my opinion customer service we receive should be the highest quality. People should be respectful and considerate - it is up to staff and vets to make us feel reassured . In relation to Vets Now M K response to this review: no, I do not want to discuss it with you, what I want is that your company employees treat every customer with respect we deserve.

Negative experience: If no stars were an option that would have been first choice. What an absolute rip off to exploit pet owners into spending thousands to keep loved pets healthy. Out of hours service because unfortunately the dog needed urgent care when normal vets closed. Dog had a seizure and is 14 years old so family were very worried but It was my nans dog a pensioner in her late 80s who if she didn’t pay up the money instantly she loses her companion. Over £1300 later she was sent home with a few tablets and told to monitor over next couple of days. How can you justify charging that kind of money just so someone can save a beloved pet. It should be capped or atleast a payment plan offered for people who do struggle as this kind of money a lot of people would not have there and then. Re evaluate pricing and make it more affordable for people and maybe wouldn’t have so many abandoned sick animals coming in.

Fantastic experience: What can we say, amazing!! our little Luna (maine coon) had fractures to pelvis which was likely the result of being hit by force which could be a number of things... Vets Now was our first call as it was out of hours for the surgery and acts as an animal hospital... we just wouldn't be without them, so attentive and caring with people/vets that I think specialise in a split of cats and dogs... we were kept up to date and it was so reassuring to hear how thorough the handover is between both the rotation of staff on shift and to the main practice when the surgery turns back to a bau pet clinic... so two separate entities if you will sharing the same premises for one common goal, to care for our loved ones... truly amazing people here too during the day with all the same attributes and sentiments as mentioned above... they also take time with you and understand the bond you have with your pet, irrespective of them perhaps not having the same close connection and dealing with a multitude of cases, it felt like they got to really know Luna as an individual and not just someone else's furry friend... they even went as far as to conduct a nurses q'aire asking about Luna's individual likes and dislikes as well as habits as to replicate them to ease the pain of not only the physical symptoms of a fractured pelvis but the abnormal environment and surroundings that tends to cause most pets anxiety. Please, if you are considering where to sign up your pet, Walnut Tree Veterinary surgery is the place for your loved one(s) for peace of mind that despite the obvious change in familiar scents that it is in some way home from home, especially how they are cared for... this said I don't think it is possible in this world we occupy for anyone to love our two kittens as much as we do :) Huge love and thanks to a few that come from memory during a traumatic time and is not limited to... Gemma, Jo, Nathalie, receptionists too who I'm sure have their own stresses of us animal lovers coming in for a magic pill or wand to put things right like yesterday when emergency strikes. You can opt for a plan with the surgery at a cost too for administering monthly checkups and frequent meds as well as yearly inoculations. Additionally, the added benefit of the PetsApp for relatively instant messaging! THANK YOU ALL FOR HELPING US... IF YOU EVER FEEL YOU'RE SOMEHOW NOT MAKING A DIFFERENCE... BELIEVE US YOU TRULY ARE!!!! ALL OUR LOVE P, K, LUNA (AND MINNIE)

Positive experience: Can’t fault them on the speed of service in an emergency however it’s sooooo expensive and I was not given any option for my insurer to pay them direct instead of me so I cant imagine how heartbreaking it would be if you dont have access to £309 just to be seen. I was a little disappointed to find that the prices for medication are also a lot higher than a regular vet - £81 for eye drops which is at least twice what my usual vet say they would have charged. I’m glad the costs of veterinary medications is being looked at as I can’t see how that can be justified? I mean I get that it’s out of hours but it’s not like the eye drops themselves don’t need compensating for their time and trouble…?! My cat was given an anti inflammatory jab which I was told needed to work before he could be examined and was told to go home and see my own vet in the morning. It had worked by the time we got home about 20 or so minutes later but I didn’t want to go all the way back as it was so far and my cat was extremely stressed in the car and for fear of being charged another £309 but that meant he ended up going about with a grass seed in his eye for another 24 hours causing more damage to his eye so that was a disappointing piece of advice.

Negative experience: First of no I won't even give a star. So take that one away.... This vets hospital may look nice but the vet I had was out ragous. He wasn't happy to help my pootch who was clearly in pain. He wanted to gloat on how much its costing me for him just to sit and talk to me. He asked me how I come to get my dog. I was gifted her by my friend. He replied with no one would gift a fully breaded French ball dog. So from that moment I felt like I was lieing. he then told me she like an egg in the microwave. he referred to her as a car ..he called her a car crash. And a rocket in the exhaust. He then tryed to tell me she isn't allergic to foods. But instead she has a skin disease. Witch isn't the case. Actually it's fact... he also said if I get insurance it would be like me crashing my car then trying to get insurance the next day. I was talking about how she's not in my name yet. But shes still mine. So have to get her incured He said shes not mine and I should give my friend a pound. He then also said to me about 5 times when he was being so rude.. that point I was in shock. He said he likes to be ignored. 5 times he sliped that in to his nasty viel conversation.

Positive experience: Good triage Nice facility Reasonable updates Pricing extortionate - £1100 for a case of constipation, plus further visits to our own vet - pricing of care will soon mean pet ownership will be reduced purely to the rich.

Negative experience: Made it clear if I was atending at there crazy prices I wanted my dog treated not just given some pain killers I could buy over counter and sent home. Told would defo fix her swelling. Got sent home with pain killers only to find out dog had absys that they could've drained while there. Dog spent further 2 days with lump on face and I got a £400 bill for some basic meds. Lied to on phone and vet looked like he was more interested in getting back to sleep than treating my dog.

Positive experience: Quick, friendly, service. Staff were kind and efficient. Chocolate stealing pup sorted in under an hour. Only downside is it's very expensive. I understand it's out of hours, but still over £500 for making my dog sick seems excessive.

Negative experience: Just be careful would be my advise to anyone. I took my dog there at 8 o’clock on a Saturday and was charged over £650 for antibiotics and metacam - My insurance won’t pay out because they are charging well over 100% mark up on medication subscribed. They have you over a barrel because it’s an emergency situation but it’s just disgusting what they get away with.

Negative experience: We were referred to Vets Now in Milton Keynes at the weekend, as they are the only out of hours / emergency vet available in our area. I will be emailing more detail to them directly in a complaint, but when I took my cat in, the woman who saw us was rude and abrupt which was really unnecessary. My cat had developed a large lump on his face within a couple of days, we had just returned from holiday. She stated it was just an abscess (phew), she drained off one small syringe full of pus, gave him a shot of antibiotics and anti inflammatory. She then said we could not give him more anti inflammatory due to his age - unless we paid for a blood test first. We were given 4 days of antibiotics and sent on our way - no after care advice or anything. I asked what may have caused so she gave me a reason and walked away to look at her next patient. No people skills or empathy at all! After 48 hours my cat had pulled all of the hair off of his abscess and the skin was looking very sore. Thankfully I managed to get an appointment with my usual vets. They stated that the abscess should have been completely drained to give it any chance of clearing - they took him away and did this for me and it only took a few minutes. They also gave us another 4 days of antibiotics as the ones given by Vets Now will not have been nearly enough to tackle the infection. They also then gave us some metacam - they said Vets Now were being very over cautious not to give it, the risk of his abscess not healing was greater. They also gave us a cone so he couldn’t scratch at the abscess. So I’ve now come away wondering why Vets Now thought it was acceptable to give my cat the bare minimum of care? In fact they didn’t really treat him at all. And it all cost us over £400! I would say avoid at all costs if you can, but unfortunately they are the only emergency vets available out of hours in Milton Keynes, so most people have no choice.

Positive experience: Initial consultation rather off hand. Was told 'we probably won't be able to do anything as we're really busy'. Given what they charge to walk through the door, and that I never would have gone unless it was something that couldn't wait, that was a bit disconcerting! However, although we did have to wait quite a long time, (as they were really busy), my dog's treatment was successfully, professionally and very compassionately carried out. The vet that carried out the surgery and nurse who assisted and supported me and my pet were absolutely lovely and an extremely stressful situation was resolved with a minimum of anxiety for my dog.

Fantastic experience: Very professional and most importantly caring vets practice. They knew exactly what was wrong with our dog and he was treated promptly. A very big thank you to everyone involved with his care.

Fantastic experience: I took my cat Hugo to the out of hours vet service and the treatment was outstanding. The vet took great care of Hugo and everything was explained to me in a kindly manner. She even text me after the procedure and followed up with a call the following morning. With grateful thanks

Fantastic experience: Very happy with our recent emergency visit. Seen promptly by a lovely, caring vet. Who alleviated my major concerns quickly and then efficiently identified and sorted my elderly dog’s issue. Happy to pay for such great service at such a worrying time

Negative experience: Long wait to be seen, but they were busy. Vet was efficient and caring (5-star) Costs are unreasonable though - 10 minutes £309 and a further £80 for a bottle of anti-inflammatory meds - hence 2-star. I have since been back for a second visit - 5 days later - ( during normal hours) - doggo still sick- given antibiotics this time- £100 later. Dog is still not well - still has a blocked nose and sneezing volumes of snot out. Do I go back again?

Fantastic experience: We visited Vets Now in MK 4am on 14th January but it is only now that I can leave this review. We brought our dog in and were immediately seen by the team. The vet who treated our precious dog was called Iva I think. She was one of the best vets we have ever dealt with. Our dog was very poorly and she did the necessary tests before leading us down the path we had to take with kindness, understanding and firm support. Our little one was put to sleep. The team at Vets Now certainly made the awful process as smooth as they could. Yes, it was expensive but we would have paid double for the best treatment for our dog. Thank you.

Negative experience: Had to bring dog on good Friday firstly i fail to understand the need to charge 309 pound just to walk through the door ,lots of people these days have to work on bank holidays.....i was surprised to learn that u are not conected up to the vets practise we attend and so unable to get dogs history, which i am sure in alot of cases is helpful...my dog was experiencing sudden falling over with what looked like loss of balence,i explained this to the vet,she examined the dog and all she was suggesting was possible osteoarthritis, as sometimes change of weather etc makes this worse.....i did think to myself that sounds highly unlikely to cause such a sudden reaction...the vet gave a pain killing injection ,metacam and some paracetamol(23 tablets costing 53 pounds) why did she not advise me the paracetamol i can get from shops are just as good and safe to use....once I got home and got over the stress of sick dog I remembered my freinds talking about vestibular syndrome...and thought it was a more likely diagnosis..on Saturday I rang my vets to make app spoke to someone there who even without seeing the dog tended to agree that it was a more likely cause...I stopped the painkiller on the Sunday as even the next day the dog was showing no sign of pain...so all in all I was charged 455 to be given a highly unlikely diagnosis and some painkillers that may not have been needed, and some of which ie paracetamol could have been purchased alot cheaper...I was also advised to have a blood test done first to check if metacam was OK to be taken, which I declined.

Fantastic experience: Very pleased with the professional advice, treatment and care we received from this clinic. We had a very nice experience by the reassurance of the vet, Georgina who looked after our cat and gave us constant advice and updates to make sure that our cat received an outstanding care and was looked after during her stay overnight. Thank you very much.

Fantastic experience: Excellent service. Prompt to book an emergency appointment, within 15 mins of my call. A follow up text with directions to the surgery and warm welcome when I arrived. The vet took good care of my dog and offered excellent advice. Highly recommended.

Positive experience: We needed to attend Vets Now as an emergency due to my cat having an abscess after being attacked by a neighbours cat (not the first time). Vets Now staff were very polite and explained how the appointment would work - Vet Nurse triaged my cat to ensure there were no open wounds that needed immediate attention, and as there weren't we waited in line. There was one vet available and she seemed rushed off her feet (apparently a very busy day), however she was very polite when we finally got to see her and apologised for the wait. She then promptly dealt with the problem & dispensed medication for us to take home. Nurse/Receptionist was very helpful in explaining how the claims process would work (this was our first time). All the staff we came into contact with were polite and helpful - Thank You.

Negative experience: I have no complaint about the vet. The vet prescribed 2 injections and a bottle of pain relief, metacam Charge for 32 ml metacam £54.00 ( can be bought on line for £7.33 then then have a charge of £18.33 for ‘fees’ for the drug. What are fees? For spending 2 minutes finding it on a shelf? No explanation on the invoice. The inhections cost a total of£37.51. No idea of actual price but I have my suspicions. Again, additional fees of £44.16. What for? This is ON TOP of the consultation fee of over £300. I accept it was (just after) 9 am in a Sunday when I arrived at the clinic but your prices are a total rip off and I would never recommend you to anyone and suggest that others look elsewhere before considering you.

Positive experience: The reception was very kind when we contacted them to put us through our vet. Our vet, Dr Hannah was incredible. Though our cat, Ding Ding, had to be put to sleep in the end, our family appreciates Dr Hannah’s accurate diagnosis and prompt management. She was also very compassionate when she spoke about our poorly cat. We felt that Ding Ding was in good hands when we talked to her. She isn’t just professional. She is also personable. The day practice is affordable, but the overnight stay could be costly for anyone considering to visit the vet there.

Positive experience: “Thank you for choosing Vets Now” ?? No one CHOOSES Vets Now! Those of us who care about our animals have no choice but to pay the excessively inflated prices! If it could have waited for my usual vet then it would have done, but it couldn’t so I’ve had to pay £328 that I don’t have to spare for a metacam injection, simply because my cat developed cystitis on a weekend.

Positive experience: I took my dog to the emergency vet in Milton Keynes on Saturday afternoon whilst the service from phoning to arriving for my appointment was very easy and swift The vet was not very friendly She did not talk to my dog or try to reassure her at all I found her to be sharp and insensitive It was as if she did not want to be there at all. When your animal is poorly it’s important to have a friendly face who is reassuring and kind in what is likely to be a stressful situation. She treated my dog with the correct medication I was very disappointed when I left with the way my appt had been handled.
