Our comment from InfoVet about Ashgrove Veterinary Centre Ltd:

Ashgrove Veterinary Centre Ltd is a well-respected veterinary practice located in the United Kingdom. Many clients have shared their positive experiences, highlighting the friendly and caring staff who show genuine affection for animals. The facilities are clean and the wait times are generally low, ensuring a comfortable experience for pets and their owners.

Customers have appreciated the professionalism and expertise of the vets, particularly when it comes to treating exotic animals and small pets like guinea pigs and budgies. The vets are known for providing thorough discussions regarding treatment options, which helps owners feel included in the decision-making process about their pet's health.

However, some clients have expressed concerns about pricing and communication. A number of reviews mentioned rising costs and a feeling of being overwhelmed by fees, with some clients calling the pricing exploitive. Communication issues have also been noted, particularly in instances where information provided by reception staff did not align with actual services.

In summary, Ashgrove Veterinary Centre is recommended for its compassionate care and dedicated staff, especially for those with small or exotic pets, but potential clients should be aware of varying experiences related to pricing and communication.

Fantastic experience: Have been taking my guinea pigs here since January 2020 - nothing short of excellent service every time we go. Though I want to highlight the most recent experience with one of my guinea pigs, Lola. She had an issue with her teeth and Nia admitted her to be done on Monday. As we have had massive snowfall, they were shortstaffed, but Kevin still managed to get Lola done and she was home at 6pm eating and enjoying being home. They took such good care of her despite the weather, I am beyond grateful that she didn't have to wait. We had complicated cases as well such as, a guinea pig with asthma, a guinea pig with lung cancer, another one with tumors along his jaw - all diagnosed by Kevin, and I was given multiple options and thorough discussions if further tests would provide more treatment options, or would cause more stress. I always feel that when I go to Ashgrove vets here at Belmont Road, that I will be treated with respect, kindness and understanding and that my guinea pigs will get top level care despite being so small. So far we have seen Kevin, Nia, Victoria, Holly, Lesley and Lindsay - all brilliant with small animals too! A huge thanks as well to the whole reception team, my calls are mostly answered by Kim, Lauren or Brenda, they are always super helpful! Highly recommend this practice for any of your pets, but specifically, if you are looking for exotics savvy vets - this is THE practice. :)

Negative experience: Contacted this practice in regards to getting a blood test done for my dog as a matter of urgency as my practice don’t offer this. Was assured they did in house testing with same day results but I had to register my dog first. Went through the hassle of registering my dog and waiting days for confirmation of registration only to have to contact the practice again to be told my application was still pending but they’d sort that right out for me straight away and give me a call back. Waited 2 hours and called them to then be told that they still hadn’t done it despite me explaining it was a matter of urgency. They finally got back to me only for them to tell me that they don’t do in house testing despite assuring me over the phone days earlier that they offered this service before I registered my dog. What a waste of my time. Reception staff clearly don’t liaise with the vets before giving out false information and wasting peoples time.

Negative experience: This is unfortunately one of the worst practices I ever had to deal with. My dog was seen by someone, I accepted to go ahead with Librela. (i read lots about the negative side effects but felt like it's worth to take the risk if it means my dog might get better, he was 16 and started struggling a lot more in the recent months) I asked the vet what they think about the side effects (seizures and cases of death) the vet assured me there are minor effects like drinking more water, nothing serious. I was told more about the price difference in between this and another cheaper option. It was emphasized that he will act a lot younger and that I have to keep in mind his age and to take it slow even if he would want to run, etc... Nothing about the potential negative effects of the drug. He started having severe diarrhea, twitching, crying, acting way worse then before. Called the practice and requested a call from a vet. I didn't want to bring him in due to how uncomfortable he already was. Receptionist told me that since it's a Monday it will be unlikely to hear back from them as the vets are very busy. (3 prcatices and not one vet could speak to me for 5 min about a dog in this state) Funny how I could however book an appointment for the same day. The receptionist was heartless to say the least. It took 2 days to get a call back even tho I explained how he is reacting badly to the Librela in both email and call. By then I already took him to another vet but sadly we had to put my dog down a week ago, just after a month of taking the first Librela as he was not improving and deteriorating even faster then before the "treatment". Like probably a lot of vets in the UK, these people only care about money, without even having the skills to deserve it.

Fantastic experience: Professional excellent services.

Clarissa Wright Posted on Google 6 months ago

Negative experience: Been here for years. Had amazing service from amazing vets here but this 2 stars is cause of the management or whoever has decided to double-triple prices (within the space of a month) which I think is exploitive of the local community who care about their pets and might not have the money to help them anymore. I am making this review to raise awareness, as I hope this exploitation does not trickle into other Veterinary businesses as it does not just put people at risk but animals.

Fantastic experience: I want to thank Catriona Urquhart from the bottom of my heart for all help, support, understanding and treatment for my cats! It was a very difficult time for me and without her support it would be impossible to get through. Catriona is very professional and kind as a person! All staff in Portlethen is amazing too! Thank you so much!

Positive experience: It’s a good veterinary surgery. Nia is the best vet we have ever had, she is fantastic! The only negative thing are the reception staff - I’m sorry but they are rude and not well trained when it comes to social skills. There is no real empathy or kindness, which is imperative especially when dealing with people whose animals are very ill or dying. There is nothing inviting or kindly about them. They are too busy chatting to each other to realise you are even there!

Fantastic experience: Friendly vet, problem with parking, a parently you can park at the Sainsbury car park.

Laura Gibson Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Amazing knowledgeable staff and the reception team are fab. Have been so helpful with my 4 cats and I never feel anything they do is unnecessary just to get the bill up.

Paigey mallen Posted on Google 1 year ago

Negative experience: After being a loyal customer for 10 years with my rabbit they carelessly posted her Paw prints and fur to me with no tracking and no proof of posting and have shown a complete lack of care and empathy and have not even offered to help me track this down. Such an important package was apparently sent SECOND CLASS WITH NO RETURN ADDRESS. I am so disappointed with the lack of care. At this point I doubt they even bothered to post them as they cannot provide any receipts. AVOID the heart ache as they clearly only care about your money and once your pet has passed could not care less.

Fantastic experience: My cat is registered to Ashgrove Vets on Belmont Road. I take him annually for his check up and vaccines. He has also had to attend in an emergency. The staff are always so lovely, they were able to get me in fast in the emergency situation. 100% trust in them and know Buds in safe hands. Highly recommend.

Gniddew Liame Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Was with Ashgrove Vets from 2021 - 2024; unfortunately, no longer with them due to relocation. We own budgies and Ashgrove Vets were pleasant to work with. We were seen on the same day or within the week. Thankfully, we were able to stay within vicinity, but handy to have the Peterculter branch if needed to be seen asap. We mostly dealt with their vets Kevin or Lindsay for check-ups; they were knowledgeable and had possible treatment plans if needed. Thankfully, we did not need extensive care plans and were able to alleviate any health issues after meeting the vets. Their receptionist Neve was kind and helpful for the times our birds needed to be seen. Their reception staff were professional and were helpful. The only fault was the parking, being near a busy junction meant it is a nightmare and it's really down to luck Overall, from our interactions and dealings, we are grateful to have been with them. Unfortunately, we lost 2 flock members this year and Ashgrove Vets showed us compassion and were thoughtful in sending out a sympathy card and were gracious in helping us navigate through the aftercare of losing a pet.

Grant Clark Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: A really exceptional veterinary practise who offer an excellent service at fair prices. Each member of staff I’ve dealt with has been very friendly and caring with my dog. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to others.

Carol Gerrard Posted on Google 1 year ago

Positive experience: I can't fault the staff. From reception to nurses & vets, everyone I dealt with was polite, friendly & caring. I had no qualms about leaving my dog in their care (first time ever he's needed a procedure). However for the money they charge, the practice owner could do with spending some of it on a refurbishment of the premises. It's tired and shabby, needing modernisation.

Alice Wright Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Very professional staff warm and friendly. Have helped us through a new puppy and a loss of an old dog. Couldn't recommend them enough. Still an amazing vet, wouldn't go anywhere else.

Scott Wilson Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: I always have a good experience at this vet clinic. The staff are incredibly helpful and genuinely passionate about caring for animals. I appreciate that they have a semi-separate waiting area for cats, which helps keep them calm and comfortable away from the dogs. Their 'Happy Pet Club' subscription is a fantastic value and makes it easier to stay on top of my pet's healthcare. While parking directly at the clinic can be limited, the nearby Sainsbury's offers a convenient alternative.

Michelle Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Our pet Marley was very well look after by the vet! It is very easy to get in contact with the team through the app and their voice mail call back systems!

Fantastic experience: Sadly I lost my much loved cat today due to an aneurism. The compassion shown by this vetenary team was excellent , even came home with paw prints and a wee patch of fur . I may add I only changed to this vet a few years ago . My previous vet who I had spent hundreds at trying to save another cat showed ZERO compassion when nothing else could be done. I am so glad someone recommended Ashgrove Vet to me .

Negative experience: I asked for a small needle and syringe to put lvermectin into meat to treat a fox for sarcoptic mange l even showed the receptionist the photos she said the owner said no but l went to my local pharmacy they gave me it free of charge so didn't think much to that vet l thought they were kind and caring towards animals maybe not all of them.

Fantastic experience: My cat was seen by Lyndsey today and she was so good with her! I was worried she would be uncooperative or anxious but little Lola was perfectly at ease and Lyndsey was wonderful. She answered all the questions I had and provided quality care for my cat. The reception (Brenda) was also wonderful! I am so grateful for the people that work in this practice.

Fantastic experience: Been going here for years, lovely folk

Lisa Cook Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: I picked Ashgrove Vet as my vet over 7 years after I rehomed my cat. From the first visit with Kevin I knew I’d made the right decision- he’d diagnosed my cat with a blocked tear duct that day but said they’d not put him under anaesthetic just to unblock it but would attempt to if he ever required an anaesthetic. Some vets would’ve jumped at that money making opportunity (like one back in my hometown). From then on my cats best interests wete always at heart with every vet I saw at the practice- he suffered a lot with pancreatitis so we were in often over the 7 years. I saw Nia for the first time a 3 weeks ago, during the appointment it was decided it was time to say goodbye. The way she compassionately handled everything by quickly getting her next appointments covered so we could talk more, to coming out that evening so my boy could go for his final sleep in the comfort of his own home. I can’t thank you enough for how you handled such an awful time so beautifully. I’m still absolutely heartbroken over the loss and will be for some time but I couldn’t have asked for a more peaceful goodbye with such a lovely, compassionate and honest vet. Thank you to all members at Ashgrove Vets- vets, receptionists and nurses- you always showed kindness to my boy and me during many times where I thought the end was near for him. The nurses always gave him a glowing report as well, which is like what I imagine a parent getting a good report from school felt like! If I ever decide to own another pet, I’ll be sad I won’t be using Ashgrove Vets as I’m moving away from Aberdeen.

Jill Youngson Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Nice, caring thoughtful staff. My dog can get a bit vocal when other dogs come in. Lovely vet nurse offered me a wee treatment room to sit in while we waited to be seen. Vet (Holly) was a really kind, nice lady and put my dog and myself at ease. The Receptionists were nice too. The prices a LOT better than previous vet. Thank you to all at Ashgrove from Jilly and Ellie.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic Vet practice - could not rate them highly enough. We have a number of animals and have had experience with cats, hamsters and bearded dragons. In all cases the staff were friendly, experienced, and handled our questions professionally. Our bearded dragon unfortunately required it's tail to be amputated and the staff were approachable, caring and responded to both calls and emails. We were very pleased with the treatment our pet was provided Thank you Ashgrove Vets

Kristina Stanley Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Always friendly staff, receptionist are super informative and knowledgeable. Vets are friendly and always great with our Euraiser, who has so much anxiety and doesn't like new places etc. But vets are so patient and understanding. Highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: Professional and very friendly staff. They found space for our cat in hers misery on the same day. The only disadvantage is a location as it is hard to find car park space in the area. If you able to walk easiest way is nearest Sainsbury's with about 5 mins walking distance from vet

RustySpoon Posted on Google 3 years ago

Positive experience: Great Vet! Never had any problems here! For Parking you may need to park at Berryden Sainsbury's as there hardly ever a free spot outside the vet!

Shay Posted on Google 3 years ago

Negative experience: The staff puts in every effort to ensure excellent customer service, the rating does not reflect them. However the company's policies and greed is undeniably repulsive. Recently had my kitten neutered, although he's on a fresh diet we discussed the possibility of feeding him vet prescribed food for a few days. As a taste test we thought we could try what they had to offer. It was one 85g pack of vet prescribed food. I had just run out of cash after having paid over £130 for his procedure. My car was parked well away, where I had some spare change sitting. They couldn't part ways with a £1.09 bag after making well over £100 of me. I had to walk to and back from the car with a neutered kitten. P.S if you're 3 minutes late through no fault of your own and limited parking spaces, you will be expected to wait 25 minutes.

Karolina Posted on Google 3 years ago

Negative experience: Attended during lockdown so can't really compare it to what it would have been like before lockdown. However, on the 3 occasions that I did have to take my pet to Ashgrove Vets they charged me £55 per visit and told me nothing that I didn't know before I'd made the appointments. For example, my dog had been to the groomer a couple of days before and after the groomer appointment had been limping and walking with her back end twisted. She'd finished her first season prior to the groomer appointment. I was really concerned and took her to the vet. After 10mins the vet took my dog back outside and said that they'd checked her over and couldn't see anything wrong, that she may be coming into season. When I said she had finished her season they then said that it could be because she had been recently groomed and it would be like when someone's had a bikini wax and charged me £55. Another time they gave me the wrong dosage of wormer and so I googled it, phoned the vets and said that the wormer dosage was far too strong and too long over a period of 3 days and the receptionist giggled and just said "oh sorry". Needless to say, I changed vets.

Fantastic experience: I don't have enough words of thanks , for the quick attention for my bunny, my baby is safe and good now

Natalie Johnston Posted on Google 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: Very kind, compassionate and knowledgeable on small animals (Guinea Pigs) which we have found rare in the city. Would definitely recommend to anyone with a poorly furry friend.

Warui Neko Posted on Google 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: Great service. They know my pet by name everytime we come in or call. It feels very personal and the staff are all genuine animal lovers. It's obvious that it's not about the money for them and that they really want to help our furry friends! We have been with the vet for almost a year now and have had to go in there a number of times. Highly recommended!!

Vita Posted on Google 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: I had my very first encounter with the Ashgrove team over 5 years ago when I called in distress about my pet rat when my own vet was useless. They were sooo helpful and sympathetic, did everything they could to help and even gave me a call back a few hours later to check up on myself and my boy. Since then I have been with them with my two cats and I have never left the building disappointed or feeling confused. Staff are super lovely, supportive and always happy to help in any way they can. Vets are kind and gentle with my cats and are always happy to answer the most silliest of questions. I do not have a single bad thing to say about the team or their methods and have/will continue to recommend them to everyone I know

Kamila Pyta Posted on Google 3 years ago

Negative experience: Words can't describe what awful customer service I've received after being with them for 10 years! Firstly my prescriptions got written for repeat one up to 5 times (makes sense as they charge £15 for a piece of paper) and now they saying I can only get it prescribed for one time only and having to pay them every 28 days so they write a new one and now they pretend they never did a repeat one. I also had my 10 year old boy for his yearly check up and literally they did nothing and charged us for it (just picked up his paws to check his bones (he suffers arthritis) and I then had to wait 45 mins for them to give me a written prescription (bare in mind I ordered in advanced few days before through phone)) staff was rude and not helpful. I then called the vet and told them I am unhappy with my last visit as they didn't check his heart, ears, eyes, teeth and my questions were unanswered (I told them I feel like my dog acts a bit strange lately looking in one spot etc - all the vet said was as long as he responses it's fine) and then the receptionist John told me am basically lying because in his notes it has been put he had his heart, ears, eyes and teeth checked but me and my sister was literally in the room when the vet was examining our dog! Honestly they will do anything to charge you as much as possible for bad service. I am now looking for a new vet for my dogs. So is my mum and sister as they are also unsatisfied from their own experience.

Fantastic experience: I can't thank Kevin and his team enough for his advice and reasurance on Maisy getting spayed. She did amazing after her operation and recovered so well. Thank you for taking the time to answer all questions we had , and putting our minds at rest . You really do go that extra mile when caring for our fur babies

Jeffjeff1287 Handsome Posted on Google 3 years ago

Negative experience: Had me waiting for a written prescription for 45 minutes. Very unhelpful staff and rude. Would get served within 10 minutes if I paid triple the amount to get the medicine here.

Geraldine Warner Posted on Google 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: I needed my dog to be seen whilst away on holiday. I contacted Ashgrove in the morning and they gave me an apt the same day. Everyone was friendly and the vet took her time to listen to the problem and left with a good outcome and know that I can call them if I need them.

N M Posted on Google 3 years ago

Positive experience: Had a great experience with my dog at Ashgrove. The DVM was attentive and supportive with my goals for my dogs senior years. It's always reassuring the find a veterinary team that is on the same page as you with QOL and aging pets. I removed 1 star because I personally would have appreciated a bit more in the way of fear-free/positive reinforcement tools - for example access to treats at reception or at the scale - but perhaps these were removed due to COVID. All in all, I am very happy with the care my boy received and am glad he is a new patient with the Ashgrove team.

Fantastic experience: Could see my little dog was injured from the window and they were at the door before I could get to it my thanks I think I should mention it cost me 95 quid and all they did was take cloth over the dog's head then handed me a lot of tablets and charge me a lot didn't even get inside the door this took a matter of two-and-a-half minutes 95 quid no wonder the poor can't afford the dog personally daylight Robbery

Positive experience: Didn't enjoy standing outside on the pavement in the cold for over half an hour after my appointment time' I'm registered disabled & a seat of some description would have been nice, staff we're nice when I eventually got seen...
