Our comment from InfoVet about Alder Veterinary Practice - Guildford:
Alder Veterinary Practice in Guildford is highly recommended by many pet owners for its kind and professional staff. Visitors often praise the team for their compassionate approach, making both pets and their owners feel at ease during visits. Receptionists and veterinary staff are noted for being welcoming, knowledgeable, and attentive, creating a supportive environment for those who are concerned about their pets' health.
Clients have expressed appreciation for the thorough care provided by the vets, particularly commendable is the patience shown during examinations and the detailed explanations about treatment options. The practice has modern facilities and offers a range of services, including monthly payment plans that make veterinary care more accessible.
However, some recent reviews highlight concerns about the changes following the practice's acquisition by a larger company. Some clients feel that the quality of service has declined, mentioning issues such as rising costs and inconsistent availability of familiar veterinarians. Certain administrative interactions have also been reported as frustrating, with some clients experiencing delays in communication regarding prescriptions and results.
Despite these concerns, many continue to trust Alder Veterinary Practice for their pets' healthcare needs, noting the genuine care shown towards their pets as a significant strength. The practice remains a vital resource for animal care in the Guildford area.

Alder Veterinary Practice - Guildford: Reviews
Fantastic experience: I can’t recommend Alder Vets highly enough. From the moment I walked in, the whole team made such a positive impression. Receptionist Kim and the rest of the front-of-house staff were incredibly kind, welcoming, and helpful, which immediately put me at ease. A special thank you goes to Jess, the vet, who was absolutely outstanding. She really took the time to listen carefully to all of my concerns, never made me feel rushed, and explained everything clearly and reassuringly. She gave my dog a thorough, full check-up and approached everything with such patience and professionalism — nothing was ever too much trouble. It’s rare to find a practice where you feel genuinely cared for as both a pet owner and a client, but that’s exactly how I felt here. Thank you to the whole team for your compassion, dedication, and exceptional service. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for a trustworthy and caring veterinary practice.
Fantastic experience: The team were so friendly and attentive to my sweet little cat. They’re all so knowledgeable and professional and made me feel very welcome. I’d happily recommend!!
Fantastic experience: I’ve been using Alder vets for over 20yrs now. Always been good with all my animals. Compassionate when it’s time to say goodbye to a pet. The only niggle I’d say is that one kitten I got had FIP, the vets steered me away from treating him, he was euthanised. I was then offered another kitten from same breeder… turned out she also had FIP. The vets didn’t seem to want to help me treat her. I went elsewhere and got treatment for 1/3rd of the price. A year later she is alive and well, clear of FIP. I now wish I’d done research with the first kitten and saved him. I do feel vets need to offer cheaper ways to treat FIP, rather than just suggesting putting to sleep. I am told this is common all over the country. Other than this they are very good. Prices aren’t too bad. Monthly payment plans are very good and recommended.
Negative experience: My family’s dog passed away and we was not informed on when his ashes were going to be scattered. They also have appalling communication skills on informing you and also including their astonishing misinformation skills. I do not advise anyone to send your pets here. Selfish and inconsiderate of your vets, you should be extremely ashamed.
Positive experience: Lovely premises with adequate parking, pleasant staff. I have used this for many years and well before they were absorbed by their umbrella company; Linnaeus. However, my latest interaction has left me extremely disappointed. My small dog needed a dental, so I attended for an assessment and quote. I was advised that the likely bill would be £1860 including anticipated extractions. "What" I'd only had a dental procedure about three years previous and it was less than £500. Crazy I thought. So, i talked to a number of other vets. Some wouldn't quote without first assessing him during a consultation, but one, stated they would carry it out at a maximum of £800, (knowing the breed of dog and its propensity for suffering from dental problems). So clearly, this was the **other vet** I used, with **nearly £1100 saving**. Today, the procedure was carried out. First class service, lovely staff, plaque removed, 11 extractions, with the remaining teeth cleaning and polished. The bill was £580 !!!! I did feed this back to Alders, who stated their prices were fixed by Linnaeus, but they feel it reflected the level of service they offered (implying i got a second class service? I think not!) All I can say is, look at your options. Prices vary a lot. You could save a fortune! Aldervet are a great vetinary service, however, don't be blinkered..........! [photo, post-op recovery]
Fantastic experience: The most amazing vets, so kind and attentive, not just for your pets but for us as owners as well. They treated my little doggy so well, they take the time to explain everything to you. Would highly recommended x
Fantastic experience: I unfortunately had to use the out of hours service at Alder vets to take my sleeping bunny. There was unfortunately several other families saying goodbye to their beloved pets but despite it all the receptionist was amazing, compassionate, and kind. I am very grateful for her support and I hope she knows how wonderful she is. Thank you!
Positive experience: An update. When Alders was owned by Mr Alder then by Dr. Chris it was brilliant. Now it's OWNED BY A CHAIN. Who without my permission cleared my dogs gland and tried to charge me without checking for the privilege. There are only 2 independents in Guildford. Try the Guoldford Vet since when I read all tge reviews I am not sure people realise this is no longer a family run practice and changed a few years ago!
Negative experience: Do not use these vets all they care about is money had blood tests for my bearded dragon called everyday for the results was ignored countless times put on hold for ages. Bear in mind my dragon was critically ill so these results were paramount in getting my dragon the help it needed. Staff blatantly lied about leaving a voicemail then after 8 days of nagging and constantly phoning they proceed to tell is that the sample was not viable and to drive another 30 miles for him to take for another blood test upon getting there i voiced my concerns about the negligence to be told im agressive and that he William Lewis said you and your animal are no longer welcome hee these people claim to care for animals but are really just leeches out to get your money if you love your animal AVOID!!!
Positive experience: Clean, friendly reception staff. We have been attending alders for 11yrs and unfortunately in this time the service has declined. We never see the same vet so you can’t build up a relationship which I feel is important for owner and pet. The vets always seem rushed and really aren’t interested in your pets wellbeing. In the past I couldn’t fault them. We were given great service when our cat was very ill. The kindness, care and compassion has sadly gone.
Fantastic experience: Used them for years, no other vet for us. Caring, super service.
Negative experience: Update: since Scarlett, Colin and Helena and all the original vets have left, alder vets have increasingly gone downhill in their regard to compassion from the vets and high quality service. They cannot retain their vets which says all you need to know! Alder vets are only using Locum vets. Jayne (Reception Manager) can be extremely rude and abrupt. Morals of the practice is questionable especially in regard to putting a pet to sleep without my consent and in particular without me present. However I cannot fault the rest of the reception staff or the nursing team as they are wonderful. Highly recommend Scarlett for exotic pets, she is extremely knowledgeable and treats my pets with the upmost respect and care. She has been absolutely fantastic with my gerbils and rats with their tumours and respiratory infections. Wouldn’t see anyone else!
Negative experience: Avoid. There must be better vets in town.
Negative experience: My dog had a cut on her legs and in pain. We brought her to this vet. It was a late evening around 6:30pm. We met the vet and he suggested to do some Xrays. We waited 3 hours for all the treatments then paid for bill before we left with our dog, the amount is £535. Then a week later, we received a bill from this practice for £126. We didn’t pay, because we are sure that we have already paid all the fee in the reception. Until yesterday, we received a letter from a debt recovery company, claims that we have owe the practice £126 and we have to pay asap plus the administrative charge. So we contacted this Alder veterinary practice today, they told us the £535 was paid to another practice, which is called VetNow. They told us after 7pm , this practice is working by VetNow not Alder Veterinary. Just because we brought the dog in this practice before 7pm, the vet from Alder took a look at our dog for 5 mins . Then refer my dog to another practice (but in the same place, same location)without my consent , so they have to charge me twice for the consultation fee. This is not about the money, I can pay a thousand, ten thousand pounds for my dog for a good, responsible treatment. This is about justice. You want the consultation fee for £500, ok just take it. But you hire a debt recovery company to harass me is not a smart move. Just be careful of this practice, make sure they don’t charge you twice and remember to pay them all at the first place.
Positive experience: Rang mid week for a repeat prescription told I would receive a text saying when it would be ready, Saturday morning still nothing and have to ring them again, only to be told nothing had been done, but she would go and ask the vet to do it today (Saturday)
Fantastic experience: I’ve been a customer of all Vets for a while now with various animals. We have receptionists have always been pleasant understanding supportive the veterinary team that we’ve met so far. I’ve also been very good understanding and generally this tidiness to the place is always good and will continue to use all the Vets for several years to come no doubt, would recommend to friends nice practice on the new Queen Elizabeth Park as well .
Fantastic experience: Great service as always. I rang on Thursday asking for a non-urgent appointment for both of my dogs for the following day, not really expecting to get one, the receptionist explained that it was unlikely as there were staffing issues, one of my dogs could definitely be seen, however the immediate next appointment was already taken. The receptionist (unfortunately I cannot remember her name) asked me to wait 5 minutes, she would make a call to see if that appointment could be moved, I was called back with the news that appointment had been moved and both of my dogs could be seen. As usual excellent service was received when the dogs were looked at, the following day. I cannot recommend Alders enough.
Negative experience: When caring for animals they seem attentive and responsive. But the moment that you need administrative support (prescriptions or medication) their service has been consistently disappointing. We removed ourselves from their vet plan because of this. I called and contacted them frequently about changing medications and was always told 'we'll look into this and call you back' but nothing ever came of it until I escalated further and further. Looking to move to another vet when possible.
Negative experience: I took my dog here a month ago for her arthritis shot and medication. Should have cost £140. I had to redo blood at £110, which had just been done. Pay another £21 for a prescription Consultation cost £150 (for 10 min). They were very slow at coming back with blood results and wouldnt email me the script, had promised to, then charged £44 for a small bottle and £21 for a script. These guys are a rip off and double dip in fees. Would never go back. Service was slow and nothing of value or any advice. A total of over £310 for arthritis. Claire & Pepper
Negative experience: I went on wednesday to see the clinic as my dog was in pain . First visit £89 and some painkillers. The vet didnt know what the dog had and only provided painkiller hoping it goes away. My dog gets worse. Second visit, £230 they noticed it's the pancreas and just give me more painkillers. The dog get worse and worse. I called the clinic and explained that the dog is still in pain and it's worse. They suggest another visit of course for another £80. At the stage, i feel like i just pay for painkiller and my dog is not getting better. Im obviously upset. Apparently you are not allowed to be upset after £300 in bill with no results anda dog is getting worse and worse. I called on friday, they gave me more painkillers but different ones. My dog is crying in pain and suffering. It's saturday night, no other choice than emergency. The vet at the emergency didnt understand why they gave me extra painkiller. On monday, I callled the clinic to understand why. I was supposed to get a call back. Instead i received a letter saying im not their client anymore. All week, I took time over my work to bring my dog as the clinic opens between 9 and 6 same as my work. I went twice, paid £300 and my dog was getting worse and worse. I was quite upset but apparently this is not enough to be upset. I didnt swear, I was just scared for my dog which is totally fair.
Fantastic experience: We recently had to have my darling cat Angel put down. The staff were all so kind and caring. The vet was so lovely And …… today I received a card, a print of her paws and some forget me not seeds to remember her by. You have all been fantastic. Keep being fabulous Thankyou so much Kathy xx
Fantastic experience: Such a lovely vets! We have been with Alder Vets for a few years now and I honestly cannot reccomend them enough. Our dog Kaiser is nothing short of a nightmare but there are so accommodating. The lovely reception staff put my mind at ease today when he was injured stating to come in straight away. I waited for no less than 2 minutes before being seen. I would not consider changing vets as every member of staff have been so lovely to me and my dog. Very fair prices as well and they are open about the cost prior to treatment. Thanks and keep doing what you are doing but the staff, reception and vets the same need a big pat on the back! (I spoke to Jane today and she was fantastic) thanks
Fantastic experience: Friendly reception staff, vet staff are knowledgeable and professional. The practice was immaculate and has a great layout to keep your nervous pets separated from others.
Fantastic experience: Saw us quickly given our cat's cystitis has hit her hard to get her extra help as she is exhausted, they put her on a drug trial and see how it goes, no jab's was a surprise as it was always the routine previous, but they have found unless there is a bacteria element to it all it does is cost the owners more money for something that didn't do any good, which is good to hear, but great help all the way.
Negative experience: AVOID !! My 4 year old dog died at home after being sent home from “ alders “ this new vet should be ashamed to have taken the alders name as they are nothing like the old vets. My 4 year old had no prior health problems. I took her in for 3 days straight as soon as she first got sick and was sent home every day with antibiotics when in reality they had no idea what was wrong with her. She was discharged 4 hours before she died without even being seen by a vet. When I called on the day she died the vet was very defensive and accused me of having a go at her when I just wanted answers to my questions. Over a month later and I’m still waiting for them to start my insurance claim as I’ve been told I cannot do it myself it has to be done by them and after numerous emails I’ve sent with no response I am still waiting for them to even start the claim, money obviously isn't going to bring my dear dog back but in the cost of living crisis at the moment it would obviously be nice and was the whole point of being insured. I am honestly heartbroken and strongly believe with all my heart that if I had taken my poor dog to another vets she would still be alive today. Please please go elsewhere for your dogs sake. I loved the old alders but this vets is far from it, if only I could turn back time and go to a different vets.
Fantastic experience: Lovely, experienced people and great service. They truly take their time to listen and really friendly and don't rush.
Positive experience: Our George visited today for health check, clipping and few other bits he was looked after by Zoe she was so good with him and he actually kept calm so he was obviously comfortable with her And loving the pet plan that has enabled us a stress free visit without worry of financial burden. Thank you again and see you in 3 weeks for his booster jab .
Fantastic experience: Very friendly to both myself and my pets
Fantastic experience: Everyone is friendly and professional, great place to bring your family pet
Positive experience: I felt a degree more comfortable with the old practice, but generally happy with our visits.
Fantastic experience: Whilst in Guildford for nephew's wedding our dog got an ulcer in his eye&we had to take him to the vet. They were really helpful (receptionist &vet) &put our minds at rest. Our dog was fully recovered within 24hrs of being on the eye drops we'd been given. Big thank you to Alder Veterinary Practice
Fantastic experience: My cat and the dog have been their patients for 8 years now. Great, new facilities, free parking, no waiting, good service, yearly reminder for vaccination via email and SMS. Affordable prices and experienced staff.
Fantastic experience: You can feel the love for the animals that visit. I brought my cat in as I was concerned about how he was healing after we removed a tick from him. It turned out to be nothing to worry about (thank goodness) but everyone was so kind and understanding anyway, and we recieved really helpful advice of what to look out for. What's more, I was amazed that the staff remembered my cat from the last time we brought him in! They really do care, and that's something you can't pay for. Thank you all, amazing service.
Fantastic experience: So friendly, great advice and amazing new practice with easy parking.
Positive experience: Have used the practice for years. The vets themselves are good, however since moving premises the staff at reception have changed and it’s not as good as it once was.
Positive experience: Staff are very helpful & friendly. Vets are very experienced.
Fantastic experience: I brought my dog in after he had been attacked by another dog. I was in shock and the receptionists were FANTASTIC, they jumped into action straight away and made sure both me and my boy were okay. The vet and the nurse were also fantastic! Our dog has severe issues at the vets, which added to my concern in the situation (and his, most likely!) but they were so very kind and patient with him. It ended up being not too bad of a wound, and I can't express how grateful I am to them for helping both him and myself in a really stressful situation. I was a bit of a mess when I arrived and was MUCH calmer by the end of the visit, which is entirely down to the wonderful staff being so attentive and caring with my boy. Based on this visit, I could not recommend Alder's enough :)
Negative experience: *****AVOID, AVOID, AVOID***** They prescribe medication that have rare side effects but do not even warn you about these, they admitted to doing so and have turned my dog completely deaf in the process. They also will charge you for certain services without pre authorization a practice they have now been doing for years.
Fantastic experience: Great staff as always and fantastic new facilities
Fantastic experience: Alder vets have been absolutely amazing! From the beginning, I dealt with the same vet, which was Jade. She explained everything during visits/ telephone calls. On collection of my cat, I then spoke to IIaria who explained the tests and went through the xrays with me. Brogan was there on our last visit, who was so sympathetic of our situation and again explained everything. I felt informed on our visits which meant I could make the right decision. The support and care they gave my elderly cat recently was just first class! During his care, they would ring up to see how he was doing and ring back within the hour if I needed to speak with the vet. The reception staff were lovely, especially Steph, she was very welcoming and brilliant to deal with. I love the new build, it has a lovely feel and its great how they have a separate cat and dog area. It's easier to get to and parking is much better! Thank you for all you do!
Fantastic experience: My Poodle and I are new to Alders, and made very welcome and Hugo was very comfortable and not worries at all, even laid down on the table, very relaxed. Wonderful reception staff and of course excellent vets
Fantastic experience: We would highly recommend alders vets , especially our vet Simona , she's not only hard working , but she always takes great care of our cat shadow , and is an all round lovely kind caring person. Also all the lovely girls on reception. Thankyou Lindsey , Wayne , and most importantly shadow
Fantastic experience: Brilliant, efficient and caring. Cannot recommend them highly enough.
Fantastic experience: Lovely practice with very caring staff. Booking an appointment is easy and the team is always very helpful. Highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: Undoubtedly the best vets in Guildford, always so clean, staff are friendly, helpful and super knowledgeable.
Positive experience: Nice new looking practice, parking a lot better than previous location, seen in a timely manner and with care and attention, medication very expensive compared to online
Positive experience: Can not praise this vet enough, especially Amiee she was absolutely brilliant. Went again now they have moved, although the surgery is a lot better, their fees have skyrocketed. Amiee is no longer there unfortunately. That's why I have reduced my star rating. All in all imo not as good as it used to be.
Fantastic experience: Just been in with my elderly neibour and her 18 year old cat which unfortunately had to be put to sleep. The vets and staff are very understanding and eased my neibours fears and worries. They are very caring and professional and I would recommend them to anyone. Lovely large waiting area separate areas for cats and dogs with cubicles and plenty of free parking. 5*****
Fantastic experience: Great place love the layout and you can park
Fantastic experience: They did a fantastic job de-matting our fuzzy cat. She was really grateful
Fantastic experience: Very nice friendly team of vets and other staff.
Fantastic experience: Quickly seen for my suddenly I'll Gerbil, vet was friendly, explained things well, and upfront about the options and vagaries of little animal care, could do with using a little less technobabble though .
Negative experience: I've been using this vet for almost ten years and their service has gone down hill in the last 3 years. All they care about is money. They don't pick up when you call, and they never reply to your email either. How are you supposed to get in touch with them? Emergency - yeap, they will put you on hold forever. And don't sign up to their monthly pet plan! GO SOMEWHERE else!
Fantastic experience: Brilliant vets, we have quite a lot of animals. Everything from Chameleons to wild cats! They are good because they have reasonable appointment times and a good pool of knowledge. Colin who deals with the exotic animals is fantastic, always gives us good advice on habitats etc. you can see it’s a passion and not just a job. Prices are reasonable and parking is good. They also have referred a few issues for us to other vets when they were unable to help with specialist issues which was very honest and transparent. Ultimately saving the life of one of our reptiles.
Fantastic experience: Friendly service, saw our hamster at very short notice after she became poorly and the charge was very reasonable including medicine.
Fantastic experience: Had to take my elderly cat to go to sleep today and I must say Alders and particularly Colin the vet were wonderful. We were not rushed at all and they explained everything so well. I cuddled my sedated cat until she went to sleep in my arms. So dignified and calm. Thank you!
Fantastic experience: Well today our 3 year old hamster started having breathing difficulties. I called up in a panic as he was suffering, the receptionist was lovely. We weren’t even registered. They told me to take him down. On arrival the vet came straight out. Unfortunately he didn’t make it. The compassion that was given was amazing. They were so lovely, they even done some paw prints for my daughter. With in 30 minutes of me calling and getting there our sweet boy was on his final journey home. I can’t thank you enough for being so lovely. It’s made a huge difference. I felt silly it being a hamster but nothing was to much trouble. Thank you again for being so lovely and professional, and caring about something so small ❤️
Fantastic experience: Very helpful, polite and efficient staff, answering any questions to satisfy my curiosity
Fantastic experience: Very helpful. Squeezed us in. Even though we had never been before.
Fantastic experience: The only place for reptile care for miles. Calm and professional, always and my pers interest at heart
Fantastic experience: My cat has been seen a couple of times by Simona. I've found her to be very professional and caring. The communication has been very good - including emails and two phone calls where she has explained blood test results to me and called to answer questions I'd put in an email. She's also very pragmatic about the level of intervention that an aging cat should experience.
Fantastic experience: I can highly recommended Alder Vet. They have been looing after my cat for almost 2 years. During this time, I had to make few appointments such as, blood test, spay or vaccine. Our doctor has been amazing with our Jinxy, they always make me feel like my pet is important to them and not just the next patient in waiting room. Lovely Receptionist Ladies who always make you feel welcome and answer all the questions via phone or email.
Positive experience: We are so very pleased with Colin's compassion and care for our jack Russell rosie. She has a mouth tumor. And he has been with us every step of the way. . A massive thank you to him .
Fantastic experience: Have used these for years after a recommendation. Always been kind to my cat, friendly staff and the new building is so much better than the old.
Negative experience: Always had Excellent service when they were at the Worplesdon Road Vets. But since they have moved to New premises and under New management, they have lost several of the Old Veterinarians whom we had such great service from and really cared for our pets. But what I was confronted with the other day was ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING BEHAVIOUR FROM WHAT I ASSUME WAS A HEAD RECEPTIONIST. THE PERSON WITH THE GRAY HAIR. My Partners cat had been viciously attacked by a FERRAL cat and was crying in pain. She needed urgent attention and medication.....but was told they only had 1 vet on and would not be able to see her. I then asked if we could book an appointment for another day....She sharply reply...NO You can't book in advance. I replied we are happy to wait as she's in pain. She then tried to make me feel bad by saying...So you expect me to drag the Vet away from a DYING ANIMAL just to see yours. How disgusting rude and uncaring. My partner said well if you answered the phone and the emails, maybe we could have been given some attention for our cat. We were then told to go to Milford pet hospital or vets for pets. Our poor cat had already travelled 20 minutes in her box whilst Tryng to find the new location. Not very well sign posted. I have never experienced such rudeness from this Vets. The old Alders Vets and staff were always so nice and caring. And if they were busy would always be polite. AVOID AT ALL COSTS, THEY CERTAINLY DONT CARE ABOUT PETS HERE !!!!
Negative experience: We have been using this vets for the last 30+ years and since they have moved location we have had horrible service. We tried to take one of our cats down for an emergency as she was attacked by another cat and we were turned away as they didn’t have enough staff. They never answer the phone and we called constantly for days and no one picked up the phone so we went down and got turned away. Since they moved they have lost 3 of the veterans that we used to see all the time. Avoid this place at all costs, the receptionist is very rude and unprofessional. I will never use them again
Negative experience: I have been recommended to go to this vets, I have taken my little one for the first time yesterday ,and I am so pleased with the service, the vet that attended my kitten is very friendly, everything was perfectly explained, I really like it, for me they are the best ones I have ever visited. Very recommended! UPDATE: I don’t ever recommend this vets, I don’t like the way they treat the pets, they don’t seem to enjoy their job or to even like what they do, wasted of time and money. My first time was great, the other one was not at all
Fantastic experience: Good honest service! Couldn't help Angel
Fantastic experience: A great vets, 2 amazing vets that are able to treat reptiles/my snake which is very hard to come by. Scarlet and Colin both took great care of my boy Kevin, the new practice has great facilities and has local convenient parking
Positive experience: I was impressed with how kind everyone I dealt with from Alder Vets was. Customer service is really very good. It has been a stressful day and they really helped - thank you.
Negative experience: They used to be amazing when it was a family run business. I would regard them more as accountants now. I was shocked to receive a £560 bill when I went to pick-up my dogs ashes.
Fantastic experience: Amazing service from these people. Despite not having visited for many years. The staff here were incredibly efficient, knowledgeable, caring and sympathetic; in particular Stephanie who booked me in at such short notice and their lovely and brilliant veterinary surgeon Bartek, who explained everything perfectly and really took his time caring for us. Nothing was too much for the staff here. Highly recommended!
Fantastic experience: They helped me a lot for my first experience with a sick cat. Highly recommend
Fantastic experience: Excellent vets. Excellent reception staff. Excellent service.
Fantastic experience: The staff there are very professional and reassuring. The price was good also. I highly recommend.Rocky had 2 cruciate ligament operation in the last year. Alder vets has been recommended to me by one of my customers . Living in London didn’t stop us to continue using this vet practice.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic responsive service to help diagnose and treat our cat. We couldn't be more grateful. Thank you. Highly recommended
Fantastic experience: Seen promptly staff were excellent who listened and gave helpful advice
Negative experience: Good service, helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Sensible advice & not pushing for you to spend money. Edit, November 2021 Sadly they've been bought out by a large company and all the good vets have left. Now it's just about the money. The last 2 appointments I sat around for nearly an hour then over 20 minutes, this time I'm running a bit late because the dog vanished and I have to book another appointment. And I only need the appointment so they can charge me for a consultation before they prescribe her tablets they told me she may need to be on permanently. I'm guessing this is to maximise billings because I chose to try the cheap and tested option over the expensive new drug they were trying to push on me so it's time to move to another vet.
Positive experience: They have changed hands recently but still very good.
Fantastic experience: First visit with our new kitten. Super helpful, kind, friendly and even has parking.
Negative experience: I pay for the monthly pet plan that quite clearly states my dog was covered to be then told sorry he is not and they charged me £42.34 for a shampoo you can buy online for £11.23, tablets at £2.27 each and they are .72p each now there is making a profit and there is ripping people off. I dont mind paying for the consultation but they would not even offer the difference in cost for the medication back. All I was told was the vet had told the receptionist we have to make a profit. Suggest anyone that wants to stay here just get a prescription which by the way is £16 most other vets only charge £10 max. Then buy the medication from the pet suppliers online it will save you a fortune.
Negative experience: It has taken me awhile to think about what to write in this review but in the 25 years I have been bringing my animals to Alders I have never been so appalled by what I experienced about a month ago. No wonder this business is getting such a bad reputation when it allows its staff to speak to each other with such disrespect as I witnessed. The receptionist JANE spoke so appallingly to another staff member that the humiliation caused that person to cry in reception. Clearly the management have little care for their staff in allowing this to happen. A once great practice is being ruined by poor service and the loss of so many competent original staff. Needless to say I will be moving practises and encouraging my friends and acquaintances to do so also!!
Positive experience: Used to be a great practice when they were independant but now are owned by Linnaues. The core team have now left. Very sad. It's a goodbye to Aimee, Georgiana, Hannah, Melanie, Alex and Zillah and others all who have other jobs not too far away. I too have moved on to another independent practice.
Fantastic experience: Visited Alders this week. Friendly staff - both vet nurse and receptionist. Seen promptly with Covid measures in place
Fantastic experience: I have used these guys in the past, highly recommended.
Negative experience: Been at this vets for 25 years. No longer. Appalling service since covid. Unhelpful. No appointment offered for a month. My two cats, my son's two cats and my daughter's cat will now be moved to another surgery. I'm not sure this will bother Alder's. They obviously have a lot of business so I'm sure we won't be a loss. Such a shame as this used to be a wonderful practice. Very unhappy customer
Fantastic experience: A great clinic with amazing people. We brought our miniature sausage dog Floppy there during our 2 year stay in Wood Street Village. Bartek helped us several times and also made sure Floppy's travel documents where all in order.
Fantastic experience: I have used this vet for years and I've always been happy with the care they provide. However today (a Saturday afternoon) I called them concerned about my cat. The friendly receptionist apologised that they had no appointments today due to two l serious emergency cases they had come in. My cat had worrying symptoms and when I mentioned my concern of pancytopenia the receptionist said she would speak to the vet right then and put me on hold. Within two minutes she was back and offered a same day appointment due to her symptoms. I came by car with my cat and toddler too, and the vet came out to us. She was lovely and friendly as Alder's always are, they genuinely care about the animals they treat. She asked lots of questions before taking my cat in with an agreed plan of tests. I was amazed the vet was able to do get the results from the bloods and a plan for what to do next within the hour, keeping me updated throughout. Anyway this has become an essay! I just wanted to thank all the staff - receptionists, vet nurses and vets for their hard work despite being busy with emergency cases. I know today (10th July) the staff stayed far later than their closing time - and had patients arriving to be seen as we were leaving. Thank you for your hard work, experienced and friendly staff and the dedication you have for your work! It is very reassuring to have you as our vets. Also your prices are very fair especially for Surrey. The only thing I would add to their service is an online check-in, which my dentist has because Alder's are a popular, busy practice and it would take the pressure off the reception staff. Thank you.
Positive experience: Helpful staff, good with pets. A bit stressful with Covid restrictions but they are doing their best.

Fantastic experience: We have been going to this vet for over twenty years. I think that speaks volumes.
Fantastic experience: Have been going to this vets for years and their level of service and compassion is nothing short of stunning. The vet Aimee, saw my 5 year old guinea pig Max, who had a bladder stone. The level of after care and pure passion these vets have is worth more than 5 stars. Through many phone calls and visits every one greeted by their amazing receptionists who always manage to go the extra mile. Today I had to let little Max go but Aimee allowed me spend as long as I wanted afterwards to say goodbye and was so kind and caring even taking the time to give me a little card with his footprints. Thank you all for all of your time commitment and compassion
Fantastic experience: Good vets, used for 25 years. Bit more commercial since Mr Alder retired. Don't expect to see the same vet over several years as they have a fairly high staff turnover but recruitment seems to work as it's always good quality vets gaining experience before moving on. Never had any issues with them.
Positive experience: Good service and our cat is feeling a lot better.
Fantastic experience: Been taking our cats here for years. Always very impressed with care for pets and people - thank you!
