Fantastic experience: We travel a 2hr round trip for treatment at Wye Valley Vets for our 3 dogs. Chris and his team are amazing. Prices are a fraction of what is charged in local vets where we live its crazy. Also Chris and his team are just more caring, friendly and really listen to your pets problems and needs. We have had one of our dogs operated on twice (two cruciate surgeries) with no infections or problems. The journey is 100% worth every mile.

Fantastic experience: Chris is excellent and has safely got our pug through surgeries with no issues. We've always been seen same day when we've needed it and all of the helpful knowledge and guidance has been invaluable. Would not go anywhere else. Highly recommend!

Negative experience: People are very friendly at this vet. You feel always very welcome, and I never had issue until my dog got very poorly. She has developed a really serious condition called Thrombocytopenia, when she was 9 years old. I felt that options were not discussed with me, from the beginning I did not feel that they were trying to save her. Days went by without checking how her condition was developing. Unfortunately I trusted Chris. Even when Chris had seen that her blood levels are not getting better, he did not adjust her medication. He also did not mention to me that she was actually getting worse. As she was on high dose on Steroids, to me she looked better, but in reality her blood levels were getting worse. A week after she was diagnosed, her condition became really bad. My dog had started internal bleeding, could not eat, drink and at the end could not stand up . During this, in the last 20 hours I had no help or support at all, although I rang twice. Hospitalisation was never mentioned until I carried her in the next morning, but by that time she was bleeding for 20 hours. She was diagnosed a week before all this happened. A whole week went when so much more could have been done. I found out about it too late unfortunately. I lost my best friend. If you find a serious problem with this surgery, please report at RCVS, so it can be stopped. That is what I did at the end.

Negative experience: This vet is terrible, I would not recommend to anyone who cares about their pet. This vet showed no care and the level of professionalism was zero after my pets surgery. The out of hours service is pointless as they just have no care or desire to provide this service. I would avoid and look elsewhere. If I could give zero stars I would!

Fantastic experience: Our dog came in for some dental extractions, treated with love, kindness and professionalism, also a very fair and reasonable invoice, absolutely the best vets I’ve been too, thank you all, especially Amy (hope the spelling is right) who was our main contact and superb.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing vets and team, I have taken all my dogs there, some with very serious/complicated health issues, they have received amazing treatment, compassion and care, I recommend them to all my friends and family who have now changed to them, it's a 1.5hr trip each way for me but totally worth it for such honest, friendly, trustworthy pet centered care, Chris is very compassionate, honest and caring when treating my pets as are all the team, I can't thank them all enough for everything they do to help my pets ☺️

Negative experience: As many other reviews have mentioned, I would avoid Wye Valley Vets at all costs. (The vet in question was Chris. There are numerous negative reviews about him.) They have shown a complete lack of care for our dog. The only thing they seemed to care about was money. Full information below: Our dog was taken to Wye Valley Vets after swallowing a chew treat that became stuck in his oesophagus. We were told the surgery went well and that the chew had been successfully pushed down into his stomach and removed from there. Following the surgery, we returned to Wye Valley to have his stitches removed. We had to return again when he began vomiting after every meal. This is when things took a turn, no support was offered, and the nurses and vet were unable to answer our questions. Instead, they seemed primarily focused on discussing potential costs. Eventually, they told us to find another vet because they were unhappy about being questioned, despite being unable to answer our concerns themselves. Weeks passed, and we noticed some lumps forming along the scar. We contacted Brookfield Vets, who initially recommended we return to Wye Valley for post-op checks. However, Wye Valley refused to see our dog again, showing absolutely no care or compassion whatsoever. Brookfield Vets welcomed our dog with open arms. At our first visit, they removed two stitches that Wye Valley had failed to remove. They also informed us that our dog was still underweight following the surgery—a concern we had previously raised with Wye Valley, who had dismissed it and insisted he was not underweight. I cannot stress this enough: steer clear of Wye Valley Vets and choose an alternative. We highly recommend Brookfield Vets based on our experience

Fantastic experience: Chris and his team at Wye Valley Vets are the most amazing group of people. A practice that truly puts the welfare of animals first. Fantastic experience: Great service, very friendly staff, would not take my dog anywhere else

Negative experience: Due to lack of 'urgency' by this vet , my dog is now dead. He told me the dog had heatstroke and to drench him and he could see me that evening, then 4 hours later told me he'd be ok and to bring him in the following morning. Meanwhile, he was bleeding internally for 8 hours. I didn't know there could be complications with heatstroke, after all the vet is supposed to know these things. However, he didn't seem to grasp the seriousness of the situation when I sent him messages of the copious amounts of blood coming out of his rear end due to haemorrhaging and said I don't feel comfortable waiting until the morning. He didn't reply to my messages, or insist I bring him to the surgery immediately when we spoke at 2.30pm and subsequently 6pm. He should know that heatstroke is life-threatening if left untreated (which I've since found out). I ended up calling back my old surgery whose receptionist had also told me I can't just call them in an emergency at 2.30pm. I'd called them first as they were 2 mins up the road, and Wye Valley Vets were 45 mins drive. So my beautiful boy finally got seen at 10:30pm by my old vets, albeit too little too late as the damage had been done. He died just after 7am. This man didn't seem to bothered about apologising and said I misunderstood him, but he didn't even reply to the messages or bother to call me back. I've since put in a complaint to both vets. Chris's response was to pretty much blame me for my misunderstanding of the situation. It's disgraceful in my opinion.

Fantastic experience: Amazing Vets... recently changed to wye Valley vets.. I wouldn't take my 3 dogs anywhere else now.... kind, friendly and knowledgeable. Never feel rushed, and everything is explained fully.

Fantastic experience: Well, I have just finished a conversation with a gentleman whom I can assume (following a quick research on Wye valley vets) is the Director and veterinary surgeon of Wye Valley Vets and I have honestly never felt at ease with someone whom I have never met. How refreshing to hear when a vet answers the phone and puts my mind at easeby explaining everything about the surgery my girl will be undergoing next Wednesday. I am very impressed with such a high standard service and I haven't stepped inside the practice doors yet. My pack of dogs are my babies and already I feel at ease.

Fantastic experience: My first experience there with my dog who had to have many teeth out. The staff from reception to vets were all delightful and the cost was the best around for good quality care. Thank you to all the staff. You made a, what could have been stressful visit as easy as it could be.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic! Went in today with my dog and honestly should've just gone straight to them. All staff were really accommodating, the orthopedic vet was fabulous. Explained everything in clear detail, put my mind at ease, showed me all findings on xray and awnsered all questions that I had around the health of my dog. Cannot thank you enough!

Negative experience: I called My out of hours emergency vet as my dog wasn't well and was in alot of pain I was very upset and worried.I explained to chris what was wrong and he was so aggressive telling me it's early in the morning and I'm not going to pay for out of hour vet bills so give your dog a paracetamol and stop worrying.! He swore to me and my wife on the phone and was very aggressive and really unprofessional . I called Holmer vets and they answered the phone within seconds they were very caring and came straight out . My dog was kept in the the vets for 3 days before we bought her home for her last 2 days before she was then put to rest . NOW Chris the vet from Wyevalley vets said its late early in the morning just give your dog a paracetamol theres nothing wrong ! How can you treat a dog over the phone with no examination!!!...I think chris really needs to change his aggressive manner and attitude towards his customers or at least not to swear down the phone at you !! Hope this helps you all .

Fantastic experience: From the moment I took Kobi in as a a pup. They have been brilliant. The patience shown when I have been unsure of what's wrong with him. The help and guidance given was invaluable. Kobi was never got stressed about his visits. I think it would be safe to say that he has left his mark with all staff. He always announced himself upon arrival and even used to try a chose the consulting room. Yes, he was my world but high maintenence and trained me well. Fantastic experience: One of the few independent vets left. Their monthly scheme for fees is competitive, and price are sensibly weight based. Also, they won't ask you to drive to Newport after hours! Ruth gave me excellent advice for my dog, who is terrified in the vets.

Fantastic experience: Wye Valley Vets are the best vets I've had for my dogs and I've had vets all over the country. Chris looks after us. He's the only vet I've known to get on the floor with my Newfoundland for a cuddle! He's straight to the point, honest, doesn't rip his customers off and is amazing at his job.

Fantastic experience: Fabulous vet. We moved house which made WVV a 40 minute journey so we went to a new one locally. What a mistake! These were corporate owned and charged the earth. Thankfully WVV allowed us to return without any grovelling. They are always transparent about their prices and 100% professional. We can't speak highly enough.

Fantastic experience: I can't thank Chris enough, what an amazing vet,we was told at our local vet that our British Bulldog Lady didn't have a severe eye infection, as they couldn't even see she had inverted eye lids which what the issue was ,after 8 days she couldn't open her eyes.when we took her back they told us that her eye had ruptured and she would have to have her eye removed, we was so lucky to get in contact with Chris at wye valley vets who said bring her straight to him in Hereford. The drive was almost two hrs,but Chris looked at her straight away and diagnosed she had inverted eye lids which if hadn't been treated she most likely woukd of lost both eyes,but thankfully, Chris obviously knows what he's on about operated on her Removing a small part of both eye lids and he carried out conjunctive eye surgery, consequently saving both her eyes,we have been back today and she's doing fantastic, and at a fraction of the cost,nice genuine guy who obviously doesn't rip people of as he's more for the welfare of the animal, once again thank you Chris from both of us,I will have no hesitation to drive 2hrs to see Chris if any of my dogs have a problem from now on

Fantastic experience: I'm giving 5 stars for the service we received from Dr Elizabeth Ford, very caring and explained everything to us clearly with regards to our French bulldogs diagnosis and treatments , however the lady on reception was an entirely different matter, very rude and very judgemental , for front of house and 1st point of contact she is not an ideal person to be doing that job, had it not been for the amazing treatment we received from the vet Elizabeth, we would not return, so 5 stars for service and the vet, she was amazing and caring and friendly to look after our little world .

Negative experience: I was happy up until recently. Receptionist didn't know how to claim for insurance, called someone else and there was a look exchanged because she'd not been shown how to do it. I further phoned and a nurse assured me it would be done. I emailed in as writing in addition to phone calls is usually a good idea, but no reply. One month on, an invoice arrived (no compliments slip) and nothing had been done in terms of making my claim via the portal, despite my asking. Then, I was told it was 'my responsibility' - yes, but if staff don't reply, how are you supposed to know what's going on? Two days after the claim form was sent by email, I hadn't received an acknowledgement (I was concerned that nothing would be done again) only to be told "we are busy - be patient". Not the attitude I'd expect towards a customer who has endorsed this vets so many times and spent over £1000 there. I just about took it when I was told my just terminally-diagnosed cat would be walking along a fence and would one day drop dead and know nothing of it because she'd be dead before she hits the floor - not exactly sensitive and left me fearing this graphic scene that was running around my head - but this has been the icing on the cake. Very disappointing. ****Amber is lovely. In the interest of balance, it is clean and modern but not the same since Charley left. ****

Fantastic experience: Very friendly and helpful vets, our dogs have been coming here for two years, and they've been great. They even have a pet weighing scales in the reception so when walking past, we can just wander in & weigh the dog to keep a close eye on weight.

Fantastic experience: Unfortunately our dog had to have an operation on her rear leg Wye valley vets have been brilliant. The care and attention they have given to our dog is second to non. Top class advice with everything being explained and discussed in detail. 4 weeks after the major operation and our dog thinks she's a puppy again! We are following the advice to the letter with very gentle exercise on a lead and restricted to walking around the garden.

Negative experience: Very Friendly, efficient and transparent. Update: sadly one of our cats was extremely poorly and sought help from them. They were very busy and the young male vet admitted that they overlooked my cat when he was in their care and he deteriorated. He admitted some responsibility. Crushing situation.

Fantastic experience: We were looking after a sick relatives dog who suddenly started to scream with pain when she moved. As you can imagine we were stressed and very worried. So we phoned this clinic after googling best vets in Herefordshire and the receptionist couldn’t have been more helpful. Within 30 mins we were in with Chris who diagnosed her with a slip disc, gave us some medication and clear instructions on what to do for the next 24 hours and a much smaller bill than we expected. Thank you so much for all your help and hopefully our dog will be much more comfortable this evening.

Fantastic experience: Wonderful. We were in a terrible state, we needed an out of hours service. We'd been at Belmont Vets for years ... yet when we contacted them the phone call was redirected to Scotland and the only available service was in Monmouth, literally miles away. Whilst the operator was lovely, and she really wanted to help, the service was basically unavailable. We got hold of Wye Valley and the difference was almost unbelievable. Even the receptionist was welcoming, friendly, kind and our visit was orientated to US, not a generic response. I appreciated the honesty and the kindness Chris demonstrated. He KNOWS how people's *pets* are their life. He settled my Span, and he's comfortable, and he's happy, which is all we want. Chris wanted the same. I felt totally at ease even though I was in a mess, and the premises were wonderful. I know Chris gets it. Our Span is our life, good or bad, and I know other people love their *pets* more than life itself and for this alone I can recommend Wye Valley Vets. Thank you xxxx

Fantastic experience: I have used many vets over the years but no one comes close to Wye Valley Vets.The complete team are dedicated to animals and genuinely care deeply about them. I travel for an hour to get to them , I would never take my Rotties anywhere else .

Fantastic experience: We had our cat Indie booked in for her injections at 10.30am. As is in so.many of these appointments the cat goes missing a of a sudden or something else crops up - in our case I managed to catch our little darling and get her into our soft fabric carry basket only for her to squeeze out of the door as I was attempting to zip her in....... Not surprisingly she was most put out by all of this and keeping a safe distance from anywhere near our bazket, so i reluctantly had to ring up and cancel our slot. The member of staff I spoke to was very understanding and agreed to fit her in at the end of the day if I managed to catch her. Amazingly we did manage the said feat and Indie saw a very nice vet who checked her over and gave her the jab. Unfortunately we have to go through the same procceedure again in 3 weeks time! Whatever the outcome I know that our cat will be in the safest of hands and well looked after.

Fantastic experience: I recently joined the Practice as my old Vets stopped providing their out of hours service. I've been so impressed with all the Vets, Nurses and Admin staff at Wye Valley and wish I'd joined them years ago. As a small independent there are only 2-3 Vets and the continuity in care is most welcome. With three dogs the cost savings have been much appreciated too!
