Wendover Heights Veterinary Centre - Halton

Negative experience: We originally registered with Wendover Heights Veterinary Centre purely because it was the closest vet to us at the time. Out of convenience, we stayed with them for around five years and assumed the experience we were having was just how veterinary practices operated. Since moving away and using a different veterinary practice, the difference has been staggering. The cost of appointments and treatments elsewhere has been significantly cheaper, and the level of care and friendliness towards both us and our dog has been far better. Our current vets actually take the time to make our dog feel comfortable and treat her with genuine kindness. Looking back, some of our experiences at Wendover Heights were quite disappointing. When our dog was a puppy, we were criticised about her breed and even questioned about why we chose that particular type of dog. As new dog owners, that felt completely unnecessary and quite uncomfortable when all we wanted was advice and support. In hindsight, the practice felt very corporate and impersonal, and that only became clear once we experienced a veterinary practice that genuinely cares about both pets and their owners. After seeing the contrast elsewhere, it’s not somewhere we would ever choose to return to.

Fantastic experience: All the staff are very kind, caring and understanding. Nothing ever seems to much for them and happy to answer all questions and provide ongoing support. The booking system is also very simple and always able to get an appointment.

Negative experience: Oh dear.... have had to SACK Wendover Heights have used 'em on+off since JUST 1992 . They are now part of PRIVATE EQUITY FIRM,(IVP) 22%Nestle (top of the worst TEN animal testers) and 22% l'oreal who STILL animal test for chinese market . The £145 for a smallcat spey past six months, is now £196!!!! charged £165 for ONESHOT undiagnosed older cat perhaps its arthritis... cancelled monthly £100 for ALL THEIR PLANS. I think you are all paying for the new building AND the UP charges and ANIMAL TESTING... SOOOH SAD THAT ALL TRUST HAS NOW GONE

Fantastic experience: Very helpful and understanding vet and the reception staff. Confusing online booking system as I managed to book a different day than I thought I did. The separate cat clinic in a different building is quite unique. Our cats live with the dogs so not so bothered but it helps both species.

Fantastic experience: After my husband and I had attended laser treatment for our two dogs unfortunately, when driving out of the car park our car's front drive shaft collapsed, and we had to call the AA. We would like to thank all the receptionists and staff for looking after us so well, by making cups of tea, offering to make sandwiches, and ensuring that we were comfortable in the reception area.

Fantastic experience: I moved to this practice a short while ago and have been very impressed. I have seen different people each time but all have been incredibly supportive, friendly and knowledgeable. I have felt informed and empowered to make decisions and this has been done with the upmost sensitivity. I trust the staff and they have been very understanding.

Fantastic experience: These guys have literally got to be the best vets in the country. I initially started using their partner Wendover Park Equine Vets for my horse who again have delivered outstanding care and always at the other end of the phone for advice. I was then thrown into being a foster mum for kittens who were abandoned by their mum and it’s been such an emotional rollercoaster but again Wendover have gone above and beyond with telephone advice and seeing me at the last minute when I have been seriously concerned about the kittens. I honestly cannot speak highly enough of them. I find that a lot of vets are expensive and money orrientated but Wendover ALWAYS put the welfare of the animal first before the cost of care. They could teach a lot of practices some valuable lessons.

Fantastic experience: Took our 8 kittens for their first vaccination. What we love about this vet is that the cat area is in a separate building, unlike traditional vets where all animals are together. This really helps keep our cats calm, especially since they're wary of dogs. The reception staff are always friendly and welcoming. We've seen both Vet Anna and Vet Noel on our visits, and both were fantastic — friendly, professional, and made us feel very comfortable. Although there are vets closer to us, we are more than happy to travel the extra distance for the excellent level care and friendly staff.

My dog decided to eat some raisins she found at a friends house, she was rushed down to Wendover Heights (Halton) and they acted so fast and kept me informed all the way. Thanks so much, she left feeling very sorry for herself but is back to her cheeky self today.

When I arrived at the vets, there was a notice and lit candle on reception to say if the candle is lit someone is upset as they are having there dog put to sleep. This is such a lovely thing to do. The vet and nurse were amazing, very sympathic.

But as soon as the vet ( pretty sure it was Jenny ) Started talking about how to trim and steps going forwards ect I could tell she knew her stuff. She was very reassuring and knowledgable. Fantastic experience: TLDR; fab staff, who genuinely love the animals, excellent consultations My cocker spaniel has been registered with Wendover Heights since I got him and every visit has been superb. The staff are welcoming and friendly and they genuinely love meeting all the animals. I take Ralph annually for a checkup and his vaccinations and he gets fussed and loved and bribed with biscuits (which makes his day!) Even when I've had to take him for emergency or more urgent visits, the same level of love and fussing is given to him and I genuinely believe he doesn't worry about being at the vets. The surgery is always clean and presentable, the examination rooms are spotless too. During consultations, the staff have always explained what they are doing and why, and they always make sure that I, as the owner, am happy with any treatment or procedures. I wouldn't take Ralph (or any other pet) anywhere else now!

Recently they helped us to send our 20 year old pet baby to heaven; this is never easy, but Anna and her assistant were amazing, helping us through a very difficult time, and making it pain free and peaceful for our pet. We are very grateful indeed. They have always been professional and helpful throughout.

We have used a couple of veterinary clinics due to moving, and we couldn't be happier to have registered with Wendover Heights. They have been perfect in their treatment & handling of our large dog. From general consultations, body inspections, injections & treatment. I always feel listened to in regard to his needs, my concerns, and so on. Staff have always been brilliant, from the receptionists being as helpful as possible, going out of their way to call me back when our call had cut out and not yet getting my name yet. To the veterinary nurses answering all questions, and giving me a clear understanding of what's going on, possible treatment etc. We're always happy with the service and care we receive.

Fantastic experience: I took my 7 month old Cocker Spaniel in for an appt with vet Luke and was very happy with the service. Luke listened to my concerns about Arlo and was very thorough when it came to examining Arlo. You could also tell that it was important to him that he built some trust with Arlo as well. Kay was also great at helping to get the appt booked in as well and the team around at the time of the appt were friendly and welcoming to us. Thank you team WHVC!

Fantastic experience: I had to bring my cat in for an emergency appointment on Sunday. I honestly can not express how grateful I am from the lady who took the initial call, we had a problem and she went up and beyond to help us work around it to get us a appointment that day to make sure my cat was okay and even after the appointment she spoke to us about it all and honestly made everything so much easier. The vet was a real pleasure to she straight away put any worry’s at ease and made sure our cat was okay and explained everything to us so well, Both of these are amazing woman who had the upmost care to make sure my cat was okay, they put any worry’s to ease and left us leaving with a sign of relief. I have had animals before with different vets but I have never experienced such warm generally caring hearts towards the animals Thanks to these 2 I now have a cat who is eating again and is back to walking around like nothing happened

They took into consideration that l am a pensioner and did everything they could to keep costs down. I have never left a review before but on this occasion wow well done Wendover Heights.

Negative experience: I cant help but shake a feeling of disappointment after our latest visit. Our dog does not have fleas or worms we have checked for fleas and also we naturally flea, being a very short haired breed it's easy to check and we would see visible bite marks on the underbelly which is where the redness/ wounds are. We were told about 7 times the 1st step would be to give nexguard simpario (also known as a dog killer) dispite the latest worm count coming back fully clear and having already said no fleas are present, we also had the advice to remove or raw and switch back to kibble.. We have a dog that has open wounds from scratching this morning and we walked away feeling like we are no better than when we walked in. No mite testing was offered no allergy testing was offered to try and start understanding what could be the cause of this. We have never had any issues before bring our dog for issues abd have never been pushed with flea treatment or been told to take then off raw we have had vets that work with us so feel after seeing someone we haven't seen before it's tainted our view.

I have been with a few vets with numerous pets and can say that Wendover Heights were extremely compassionate and professional throughout. They have sent us her paw prints in the post which is such a lovely touch, we really weren't expecting that. This must be the worst thing to have to do for the team, but they looked after our old girl with care and love right up until the end. Thank you x

Fantastic experience: The awful moment when it’s time to talk about the euthanasia of my beautiful Cleo. The discussions and advice have all been with the utmost care and sympathy. All helping to make the decision which we all dread.

Positive experience: All in all my dogs have been looked after really well here over the past 20 years, they are not cheap but what vet is! These dogs are our family so just make sure you have insurance. I would not go to any other vets.

Fantastic experience: The amazing team at Wendover Heights cared for our elderly cat across the last half of her life. For the final two years she had chronic kidney disease, and so we were frequent visitors. The entire team from the front desk through to the incredible nurses (special mention for Alex!), and feline superstar Anna the vet treated both our cat, and ourselves with compassion, and expert, knowledgeable care. We couldn’t have hoped for better care.

Fantastic experience: Have been with WHVC since April 22. I like their professionalism and particularly their friendliness and interest in my dog, starting with my very first visit. I joined the Pet Club and value the text reminders that ensure I don’t miss any medication or appointment. Our puppy has had two emergency visits (grapes and “chewed up child’s glasses & might have ingested glass”) and she survived! Can always get an appointment very quickly. Separate note: Would prefer that Pet Club gave clear evidence of their alleged savings on an annual basis but not the fault of WHVC.

Fantastic experience: After experiencing other extremely rude vets in the past (elsewhere), i felt the wonderful team at WHVC deserved this review. Honestly the best exotic vet i have had experience with in 7 years. Had an emergency happen, they had us in and treated in an hour. Good advice given and polite, interactive and friendly staff. Both Royals treated promptly and the price was extremely fair for the service received! The reception staff were friendly and helpful as well. Cannot fault a single person here and although i hope i never have to visit again, if i do ill be glad to be in such safe hands. Thanks again to all of you! Craig

Negative experience: I’ve had more bad experiences than good here. Our first experience here unfortunately traumatised my dog, she is now more nervous and bitey at the vets than ever before.On her first ever visit, she was backed into a corner with no prior introduction to the vets, no greetings or pets to say hello and warm her up, and then within 5 minutes a muzzle was shoved in her face which made an already nervous dog even more panicked. When she saw the vet that traumatised her a few months later, despite having calming drugs she was frantic. Our next terrible experience was when her dew claw had been torn, we went to the vets after speaking to a family member who is a vet but is too far away to see, we knew that she needed her dew claw removed as this had happened to her other claw before and she had it removed. We got our appointment Monday bed from Prestwood to Tring because they can operate at Tring, leaving the impression that she would have it removed or at the very least operated on. First of all the vet clearly had not looked at our history as he was not aware of her other dew claw issues, I had to tell him. We were then advised that despite it sticking out at almost a 45 degree angle, that she needed to catch it 3 or 4 more times ( 3 or 4 more vet bills to pay luckily for them) so 3 or 4 more times that I also have to watch my dog be in a lot of pain and that it would continue to grow outward (so obviously she would keep catching it if it is sticking out) but removal isn’t an option despite us having already gone through this with her other claw. The vets examination was him pulling her claw to the side. It was left that I just needed to heal by itself and we were given some pain relief. That was it, so when I called and spoke to the managing director and explained the situation, and asked for a refund as we were told what we already knew she said that we were given an thorough examination and they could not give a refund. Terrible service! Unless you want to spend lots of money for no result and to leave with your beloved pet very traumatised then I would say go here. If you want a good experience where a practice does not want to see you pet in continued pain so they can get more money that go anywhere else!!! Such a shame as I had heard great things about this practice.

Fantastic experience: Took Nellie in today and couldn't have asked for better service. All the staff were so friendly and polite. Nellie doesn't like the vets but they were so good with her she seems really calm in there.

Negative experience: Unfortunately my experience at this vet hasn't been great. I took my cat in multiple times over the course of about a year, complaining of the same symptom of burping. Each time I was given the same advice even though nothing was improving. One vet didn't charge me a full consultation fee as he admitted he hadn't really done anything! I was even told at one point by a different vet that cats simply can't burp, as though I was making it up. I moved house and registered my cat with a new vet who immediately escalated to further investigations. He has since been diagnosed with IBD, which is now being managed. Most of the vets are friendly at Wendover Heights, but not all, and the staff on the phone/front desk can be quite rude, giving you the "GP receptionist experience" where you're made to feel like an inconvenience.

Fantastic experience: Been using WH for nearly 30 years now, with various cats we've had over the years, from check ups to major surgery. Always found them to be professional, friendly, understanding, efficient and skilled in their work. Unlike the "Drs" these days, appointments can be made without having to wait long. In fact yesterday we phoned mid pm and got an appointment late pm. Would def. recommend.

Fantastic experience: We had a an appointment for my cat Poppy vaccinations and health check. The appointment itself was very thorough and the lady we saw Holly also put us at ease on worries we had concerning our cat. Was so quick and reassuring knowing she had a good look over. Hugely recommend and the online booking system is so quick and easy to use for booking your pets in for appointments.

Negative experience: I asked this practice to do a 5 stage vetting of a horse I was looking to purchase which was based 7 miles from their practice. Unfortunately, the horse failed the vetting in the first 5min of the examination because it had cataracts in both eyes. The vet spent no more than 10min (of what is usually a 2hr process) looking at the horse and explaining the issue. I've done a number of vettings before and have always been charged according to the stage reached by the vet and time spent. In this instance the practice charged me £33.30 for the call out (a 5min drive down the road) and £107.83 for the failed vetting so I got a bill of £141 for a 10min consultation and eye examination. This is over 30% of the total 5 stage vetting fee (£329) despite the horse not even passing the first stage. When I questioned the cost I was told 'technically we should still charge the full fee but we've kindly reduced this for you'. I wouldn't recommend them for a vetting - there are other vets who will be more reasonable with their fees if the vetting does not go to plan.

Fantastic experience: Wendover Heights have been amazing since the moment I spoke to the receptionist. They were all helpful, caring and responsive over the phone and then in person too. The vet handled my cat with tenderness and compassion and explained everything in a reassuring manner.
