Castle Vets Pet Healthcare Centre: Reviews
Fantastic experience: A complete, considerate and compassionate service. Our family cat was bought in after a RTA, Denise at reception was so kind and empathetic, giving us her time and information for clarity. They accommodated us in being able to see and say goodbye to our pet, with lovely nurse Ana giving us that space. We even got a cute little bottle with some of his fur, which we now get to hold on to :) Thank you for taking such good care of Harry and ourselves, by being so kind and considerate, you gave us closure and comfort x
Thank you so much for your lovely review, we are sorry it was under such sad circumstances,
Fantastic experience: Excellent facilities plus kind, knowledgeable, compassionate people. Best vets ever!
Thank you for your review
Fantastic experience: Really lovely staff in this vets. They are on the expensive side though compared to other vets. My dog has been very well cared for here
Thank you for your review Christine
Fantastic experience: It was our first visit. We are really happy. The staff very realy helpful and pleasant. We will be happy to come back to this clinic again.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely fantastic. Beautiful staff from reception to vet. They take their time and listen. I have an extremely nervous dog who they look after perfectly, and have so much patience with him. My dog is my world and they treat him like his their's with so much care and attention. Thank you
Thank you for your lovely review Joanne
Fantastic experience: Always a nice welcome from reception. All staff are very professional, friendly and take time to answer questions and give advice.
Thank you Joanne
Fantastic experience: Lovely staff friendly professional and caring. Brutus my puppy always gets lots of attention. Any questions or queries are answered in great detail. Would highly recommend taking your pet to this vets.
Thank you for your review Fay
Fantastic experience: Brilliant vet surgery, Their vet Katie is and absolute genius with eyes...I couldn't recommend her more!
Fantastic experience: Top class veterinary service, Im really glad that my cat is under their care! When there was a small issue with having to reschedule a test as they were waiting on specialised equipment, Castle Vets (Anna contacted me) sent out two of the nurses (Beth and Jess) to pick my cat up the next day after they managed to secure an alternative test. Both Jess and Beth were polite, courteous, answered all my questions well and looked after my cat as he was transported to the vet and back to me! If I could give 10 stars I would, thank you again!
Fantastic experience: Great people who seem to care about our dog and work around his behaviours and our lifestyles. Very thorough and thoughtful people. Plus you can see our boys handsome face on instagram.
Fantastic experience: I’ve been bringing my pets to Castle Vets for a while now, and I’m always impressed by the level of care they provide. What really makes a difference for me is how confident I feel bringing in my exotic pets—they treat rabbits, guinea pigs, and reptiles with the same attention and expertise as cats and dogs. It’s clear the team genuinely cares, and they take the time to explain everything so you never feel rushed. On top of that, their pricing is very fair for the quality of service you get. It’s reassuring to know I can give my pets the best possible care without worrying about huge bills. Every visit leaves me feeling grateful to have such a supportive and knowledgeable practice nearby.
Fantastic experience: Amazing service for general pet care but also for emergency care. Katie is amazing
Negative experience: Extortionate prices, go somewhere else!!!! Blood tests down the road for half the price. Feel taken advantage of. Aggressive management during difficulty managing funds for elderly cats. Much happier with Tilehurst vets ❤️
Fantastic experience: Have been a client at Castle Vets for many years. Moved to this Practice in order for our lab to receive care with Mr Terry, a fabulous vet, who always put Bailey at the centre of everything he did. Although I was very sorry when this vet left, I am so grateful that we now have Katy to care for our current dog, Freddie and me! As well as being an excellent and professional clinican, who always offers sensible and pragmatic care and advice, I feel very thankful that she is just so lovely with Freddie and kind to me. We care for our pets (family !) so much that managing to do right by them, isn't always without it's challenges! Having Katy's care and support is priceless! Thank you Katy and Castle Vets.
Fantastic experience: Our golden retriever has just had a major surgery on her knee and all staff have been incredibly sweet , supportive and professional. I have been with Castle Vets for many years and every time I am amazed with their professionalism and support. I cannot thank them enough for looking after our dogs so well!
Fantastic experience: My experience whilst visiting the vets were faultless, no problems at all.
Fantastic experience: Very friendly and professional service. They have extensive knowledge of animals, including ferrets. I highly recommend them.
Negative experience: We adopted a rescue dog & took him for a check up appointment a week after getting him. We registered him with the vets online, however was told on our arrival to the appointment they needed more info form us that isn't requested when registering online. After giving this information we sat & waited...& waited...& waited for our appointment. We asked the receptionist what was taking so long as dogs were coming in after us, but being seen by a vet before us. She said it was just busy...! After nearly an hour of waiting she told us the system had messed up & when she'd added the additional info, the system had put us as a 'no show' to our appointment, therefore cancelling it. Not what you want on a Friday evening with a newly adopted dog, who was stressed & hot that had to keep going outside to cool & calm down! We managed to be seen, but after this experience & the extortionate cost of the flea & worming treatment, we've registered him with a different vets who have been brilliant.
Fantastic experience: Great care for your loving pets. All staff is welcoming and nurses professional. Emergency options available as well as overnight stay being an option. Prices could be lowered a little but what don’t we pay for our family members.
Fantastic experience: We had an emergency visit, out of hours, bank holiday. And they were fantastic. Our little dog had helped herself to cooked BBQ chicken bones and after treatment was bouncing around as if nothing had happened. Great service, and our little precious dog was totally back to normal.
Fantastic experience: We've always taken our dogs to Castle Vets, the care they receive is second to none and every member of the team treats them as one of the family. They always take the time to understand what is happening and talk through the options. Always clear on treatment and cost. Highly recommend.
Negative experience: They don't answer the phone - They don't let you send emails... (Neither work)... Over two years ago - I gave one of Castle vets a glowing review. (Natasha ). My Daisy cat was put down with Dignity... Not so my Sweetie cat. I wasn't given the chance even to say goodbye to her... I wanted to talk to her - but she was brought back to me, already unconscious. Claire did not tell me that would be the case. I've never met a more callous, uncaring, cold-hearted vet than Claire. And I will hate her until the day I die. At one point, she said to me, "Our 20 minutes are up". She didn't want to give me the proper amount of time to make a correct decision. The information provided to me was vague and unclear. I was rushed into making a poor decision, because of her. I put my darling Sweetie to death - (when I should not have done so). All because of Claire. The only concern she showed was about time & money. Given that dreadful day back, I would not have killed my cat so rashly. I regret my actions immensely. I was a fool not to step back, and think! - but Claire didn't allow that. Horrible person - Horrible vet... I loved Sweetie with all my heart...
Fantastic experience: I've been taking my cats to Castle Veterinary Practice for years, and the staff have always taken really good care of them. Always friendly and informative, too.
Fantastic experience: I was able to book an appointment online. The vet was great and really listened to all I said. Treatment was fully explained with the costs involved. She called when she said she would and fully explained to blood results. Great service, thanks
Thank you for your review
Fantastic experience: We would like to extend our deepest thanks to Justyna and the wonderful nurse who cared for our dog, Ruby. She was suffering from a bloated stomach, and thanks to your swift response, professionalism, and genuine compassion, we arrived just in time to prevent it from getting worse. We are beyond grateful for the care and empathy you showed during such a frightening moment. You truly deserve more than five stars!
Negative experience: I wish there were a zero-star option on Google Reviews. I have spent thousands of pounds at this vet clinic over time, always paying whatever was asked without question. However, a mistake in the vet’s notes led to my pet insurance claim being rejected. For weeks, I’ve been calling and requesting a simple statement from the vet as advised by the insurance company—but nothing has been done. Despite being promised multiple times that the vet would call me back after hours, I never received a single call. I eventually raised a formal complaint, but received no response. I even explained to the receptionist that I’m now struggling to afford food for my dog because of this situation, but there was no sign of concern or willingness to help. I was actually recommended to this clinic by a friend, but based on my experience with their poor service and lack of accountability, I would not recommend it to anyone.
Negative experience: They overcharge often and have little care for duty of care. When I take my cat there, they return it in worse shape. They suggest super expensive treatments under misleadings promises that at the end offer no insight whatsoever. Lab results for infection take a week and a half, everything is irrelevant at the pace they do things. Total disregard for customers and ignore complains. They don't speak to each other and provide contradictory advice.
We are sorry to hear that you feel this way. We cannot find any record of your name on our patient records. If you would like to discuss this with our practice manage, please contact us and let us know.
Fantastic experience: I travel a long distance by Uber to have my cat PROPERLY looked after by them ( and the awesome vet KATY) saved my Maine Coons eyesight after previous surgery failed. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you so much for your review Diane
Positive experience: My 17yo cat was very sick. Castle Vets checked her out and found cancer, so I sadly had to put her down. Then they handed me a £1,295 bill. Do they know what they're doing? Yes. Do they exploit your emotions? Are their charges extortionate? In my opinion, yes.
Fantastic experience: Highly satisfied. Pet and owners treated well. Procedure fully explained before signing the permission form. Felt assured that our cat would be taken well care of.
Thank you Helen
Fantastic experience: Always receive excellent service. The staff are very friendly and always very open about the costs of procedures etc. having the stand alone cat clinic is great as it keeps our cats calm during what is already a stressful experience for them
Thank you for your review Amy. We love having a separate cat clinic for our feline patients :)
Positive experience: In my opinion the practise has declined. Equipment not working, promised call-backs not made and no real empathy. I was not made aware of the new parking process and got a £100 fine. Why you did not send a mail shot out to your regular/long standing customers I don’t know! Who would notice new car park signs in the dark and there are so many notices on the walls of the waiting room, you wouldn’t notice a few more (about parking) when you have a sick animal to think about or are in a hurry! Needless to say, I complained and your receptionist said I won’t have to pay it. I jolly well hope not! Generally my recent experiences at the practise have not been great!
Fantastic experience: Really brilliant vet practice. The staff are brilliant , knowledgeable and kind and I always really appreciate how nice they are to me and my pet. I cant recommend them highly enough.
Thank you so much for your lovely review
Fantastic experience: They took such good care of my pup. He gets so much love from the staff that he's always excited to visit them.
Fantastic experience: The service we received from the team at Castle vets over the last 8 years has been excellent, particularly when we had to make the difficult decision to put our beloved cat Milo down. The vet was compassionate, explained what to expect very well and helped us say goodbye in as peaceful a way as possible.
Fantastic experience: Been going here for over 10 years Reception is always nice and happy to help. Even if you call them always provided me with appointments or workarounds if they were to busy. Today saw Claire again and she's so lovely. Thank you for your time :)
Fantastic experience: Katie and her team of nurses are incredible, couldn’t fault them if I tried . They all took incredible care of my bunny and guinea pig when coming in for CT scans . They are all always so accommodating and friendly, im always so reassured my pets are in the best hands
Negative experience: I have gone to this vet a few times since unfortunately they are the closest to me and I did not have a choice. They could perform a simple surgery okay but the bedside manner is absolutely horrendous and you would feel like they were emotionally guilting you into the decision they want. Impatient when you ask logical questions that might be against that decision. One time my cat was brought in for examination. Before the blood test, vet quoted me about 300 for the blood test and 500 for the hospitalization if needed. After the blood test, they could not tell me anything that was informative but pushed for a ultrasound but that was fine by me. My problem was vet insisted on hospitalization for the ultrasound and this time the hospitalization itself quoted for 700-800? Just for fluid, no medication and she could not tell me why the price surge. I refused to do that and told her I could come back the next day for ultrasound. She said NO without a proper reason. Also could not schedule the ultrasound without hospitalization nor give me an approximate timeline. Make that make sense. Again I refused. To double down this bull, she told me my cat was gonna die that night so we should just euthanize him. Guess what? HE DID NOT. Gladly took him to Vet's Klinic in Woodley and overall muuuuuuuuch better. Only go to this vet if you REALLY don't have a choice. Only go to this vet if you REALLY don't have a choice. Oh another time I took my kitten there coz of eye infection and this time not the same vet. She was so rough with my kitten's eyes that eyes got very swollen. IT WAS NOT SWOLLEN BEFORE. She said "Hmm I can't really see what is going on with the eyes now. Bring him back in 2 days." lol what a joke
Fantastic experience: I took my cat Georgy here, and he was treated for his problem satisfactorily. The lady vet I saw, was very pleasant and knowledgeable. I recommend these vets wholeheartedly
Thank you Rowena
Negative experience: I had to sadly put my dog and cat down 2 months apart due to old age.when I took my dog the vet was so caring and understanding couldn't fault her she was amazing, she let me have as much time as i wanted before she gave the injection and kept saying, let me know when you are ready for me to administer the injection. i even got 2 sympathy cards posted to me the week after. When I took my cat in 2 months later the vet(a different vet from the previous) was so rude, uncaring and even handled my cat in such a meanful way it even upset my 18 year old son, she took us into the 2nd room and just said let me no when u what me to do it and just stood there injection in one hand and my cats paw in the other, me and my son didn't know how to react so feeling pressured we quickly said goodbye so she could do the injection, she then kept sticking the needle in then pulling it out several times causing more stress and pain. When my cat passed she just said the receptionist will come in here to take your payment and then she just left the room. They also kept my cat carrier (and still havent recieved it back) and not even one card of sympathy (not that I expect them to send a card but why send 2 the first time and nothing this time). I do hope that the 1st vet gets the praise she deserves and the 2nd should be asked if that's really the job she wants if she is making everyone feel as bad as she made us feel on one of the worst days of our lives not to mention how she treated my poor elderly dieing cat.
Hello Karlie
We are so sorry to hear about your experience at such a sad time for you. Please can I ask that you email or phone the practice to speak to our practice manager about your experience and complaint, because this will enable us to investigate properly.
Thank you
Fantastic experience: Best vets I’ve been registered with in all my time of having pets. Staff are very knowledgeable, genuinely caring towards my baby salmon (she’s a cat) and always available on the phone - with quick turnarounds for appointments every time! Thank you to everyone I’ve seen this year for salmon!
Thank you Vikki
Positive experience: The staff at Castle Vets are amazing. Caroline and Kristy are beyond welcoming and knowledgeable. They are huge assets. The vet I saw yesterday was helpful and very kind in her manner with my nervous boy. However, prices at Castle Hill Vets are HORRENDOUS which is where you fall down hugely. Exorbitant and still rising. 10/10 for your staff. 0/10 for the money pinching shareholders who rinse every penny from their customers and turn pet care into money making. You should be ashamed of the prices you charge but you should be proud of your staff. How much of your profits do they get? I bet you pay minimum wages despite raking a fortune. Bring the humanity and caring back.
Negative experience: Extremely disappointed by the service I have received, where I booked an appointment because my cat is vomiting and does not seem like herself. Although the vet was friendly, my cat's stomach was not checked at all and every symptom I mentioned was completely dismissed. No cause was identified and it was assumed that this was just a common illness from another cat or something. No offer to run blood tests or an X-Ray. Its made me think that the healthcare here is basic and they didn't genuinely care about me, my cat or my money. I had a fine experience with Castle Vets are fine when bringing my cat in for her first visit or for a procedure such as deworming or flea vaccination. But I don't trust them at all for when something is actually wrong, which is extremely disappointing as this is my most local clinic and my cat gets motion sickness in vehicles, so long journeys only further induce her vet anxiety. I'm worried sick about my poor cat and I feel like the people I pay to care, don't care. It's so stressful.
Fantastic experience: Castle vets have been amazing after one of our dogs was bitten, requiring multiple stitches both sides of his neck. The vets and nurses made us and him feel better about what was happening and kept us up to date at all times.
Hi Emma
Thank you for your review, we hope your boy is feeling better now
Fantastic experience: I have been with this vets for 40 odd years and always had great treatment for my pets, but this week my dog was unwell with temperature and not good she's very nervous but all staff were great. And reception staff helped me so much. Many thanks, for the help.
Thank you for your review Marilyn
Fantastic experience: Very kind and knowledgeable veterinary practice. We just moved to the area and they were able to see my cat right away when she had a sudden issue. It’s really nice to see they separate the building between cats and dogs. It makes a world of difference for a stressed cat.
Hi Katie, thank you for your review. The separate cat area makes a huge difference for our feline patients, so we are glad you like it.
Fantastic experience: I took my little puppy here for the first time on Friday and I was so so impressed! Me and Pongo (my pup) loved it! Reception team was absolutely fantastic, as mentioned it was my first time so didn’t have a clue how it all worked, and the lady at the desk spoke me through it all and what I needed to do/know The vet, well I don’t know where to start.. She was Brilliant! I had so many questions for her about my pups bread and she answered all of them to the best of her knowledge, I was expecting Pongo to be a bit of a terror however he wasn’t at all, he was the complete opposite! And I believe this was due to the whole atmosphere and also the vets approach! To say I know my little pooch is in safe hands is an understatement. Absolutely fantastic service!
Thank you so much for your lovely review.
Fantastic experience: Wasn’t registered at the practice, but was so welcomed. They were so kind and friendly. I was in such an emotional state as I had to put my special cat Jess down. They so couldn’t have been any nicer as they were amazing. So a huge thank you to Castle Vets for being so supportive and kind. Colette Grant
Hello Colette
Thank you for your lovely review, at such a difficult time for you.
Positive experience: I can't honestly give 5 stars, as vets are, unfortunately, large companies making huge profits out of peoples dire need for pet care. The cost of medicines and procedures are rediculously high. Medecine should be at cost price, not a (criminally) high cost, especially when a dispensing fee is charged on top (double charging). IMO vet costs should be accountable by law. That all said, all the staff are excellent and caring. Reception listen attentively and have a lot of experience, giving advice when they can. The vets are great, doing all they can for your pet (my experience being for dog). The carpark is often busy, but I have always been able to park .. fingers crossed...
Fantastic experience: Thank you very much . Dr. Katy Slatford helped with the vaccination and body check of my 2 mini lop bunnies. She was very professional and patient. She was also excellent at explaining all the information clearly and in detail. The receptionist is very helpful and polite. 5-stars service.
Thank you for your review
Negative experience: I would avoid using missed early signs of cancer in our dog and assured us it was stomach bloat. Clear sings of blood in the urine could of been caught early but unfortunately a few months later he was put down due to their misdiagnosis. Please get a second opinion or use a different vet.
Negative experience: Receptionists and Nurses are wonderful. However the Vet who operated on my 18 year old cat didn't think she needed antibiotics when I picked her up... even when I suggested to the Nurse that my Cat would need them. 18 hours later I had to take my gorgeous cat to Emergency with a serious infection at the cost of over £450. She's stabilised but still in pain. I AM NOT HAPPY THAT MY CAT, AT HER AGE, HAS TO SUFFER.
Fantastic experience: The best vets I’ve ever used. All the staff are so friendly. Use for all 3 of our pets. Had some bad news about one of our animals the other day, it was delivered in a professional and empathetic manner. Couldn’t ask for a better vets!
Fantastic experience: My cat, Felix, is well taken care of at Castle vets. The veterinarians are knowledgable, personable, and attentive. There are never any surprises cost-wise and I trust that they'll always recommend what is best for him.
Negative experience: I’ve been using castle vets for many years now & the staff are pleasant. But after the last visit I’m seriously thinking of finding a new vet. my boxer dog has Hypothyroid for the last year & been on tablets & every 3 months they want to do a routine blood test to make sure its working properly. On the last visit I booked an appointment to do the blood test but when I was billed they changed me £59 for consultation which I find ridiculous as the vet only asked me was everything ok with my dog which was a 5 minute conversation. This is not what I call great service & no wonder people struggle with vet bills when they just add this on even though this was a blood test not a consultation.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, we value all feedback.
We are sorry that you are dissatisfied with our consultation charges. Veterinary surgeons have a number of regulations they must adhere to in order to prescribe medications for the safety of each pet. This means that regular physical examinations with a vet and testing such as a blood test is required to be able to ensure the medication is working correctly to allow them to safely continue prescribing this medication and this is something that all vets must adhere to. We have been unable to locate your account on the system if you would like to email us some more details on [email protected] we would be able to provide further information on how regularly your pet requires a physical examination and a blood test based on a number of factors such as age, stability of condition, possible changes of that condition etc that make up the associated risks and possible side effects. If you could provide us with more details we could discuss with your vet whether there is any possibility in the future of you having just the blood test done with a nurse every other time, but we would need more information to be able to look into this for you. You can find more details of the prescribing regulations under the RCVS code section 4.
Fantastic experience: Our cat was breathing deeply and fast, so we rang Castle Vets and were told to bring him in immediately. As soon as we arrived, we had him whisked off to be see to straight away. We were very pleased to see that his own vet was dealing with him. There was also a team of nurses to deal with the situation. In the meantime we were dealt with very sympathetically by the receptionists. We were kept informed throughout and options were explained clearly to us. Luckily, we were able to pick him up a few hours later after he was stabilised, and he continued to improve once home.
Fantastic experience: Only been with Castle Vets a couple of weeks. And although it has been one of the hardest weeks of my life. All the staff have been amazing! You couldn't ask to have your pets at a nicer facility
Negative experience: Although I think they are one of the better vets in the area the charges are far higher than others. I've been waiting days for medication to be prescribed, the cost to buy with them vs every online pet pharmacy is insane too. Being charged almost £50 for something available online for £7.20 is ludicrous, also charge £25 just for a prescription whilst most other vets charge around £15.
Thank you for your review.
Unfortunately, veterinary practices just cannot compete with the prices you will find online, which is why we offer owners a prescription to buy their pet's medication elsewhere if they want to. Online suppliers have far more space and can buy stock in bulk at huge discounts to sell on to owners. They also have far fewer staff and equipment, meaning their business costs much less to run.
Negative experience: I have been with castle vets for longer than I care to remember. However, on my last visit for my dogs' sore ears, they prescribed a course of treatment. I forgot to give it to our dog sitter so the infection came back. When I asked for more of they wanted to charge me for full price for another consultation. I went to Valley vets the service was as good, as professional and as friendly. But I have to admit they treated my dogs ears, I completed the course AND it was only £50 instead of £95
Fantastic experience: Not the best of circumstances, however a kind member of the public picked him up off the road and drove him here in his last moments after being struck by someone driving irresponsibly. We got a call from them and went to see him. The girl at the front desk was very comforting given the situation and gave us plenty of information regarding the next steps. I can’t say what the services are like but given this situation, I’d imagine good. Thank you for looking after the little guy before he was cremated.
Negative experience: I have been a few times with my dog and the service was at least acceptable - long waits, superficial consultations, generic recommendations - what you need when your 6+ yo dog is healthy and active. However, the biggest disappointment has to do with how they have handled a paid prescription for a deworming pill. They have never sent this doc over to the pharmacy despite my many emails and phone calls. That is the only medicine of this sort that works for my dog. The one they've recommended have never been 100% efficient. This feels disappointing and disrespectful. Most of all, it seems they only care about the money and not the pet.
Fantastic experience: Very friendly staff who were really helpful on my first visit. Registering my dog was really easy, as was booking an appt. I like that there are separate waiting areas for cats and dogs and a weighing scale just inside the front door so I can pop in and check my dogs weight regularly without it being a hassle.
Fantastic experience: Amazing visit to castle hill! From the minute we walked in the door to the minute we left. Having never used this vet before we felt very welcomed & everything was explained in great detail! I highly recommend joining pet club! It was a nice surprise that because we had already joined we didn’t have to pay for our kittens vaccinations, flea & worming treatment. Staff go above and beyond! Definitely will be using this vet for all future pets
Fantastic experience: After having a poorly pooch and frightening the life out of me all I can say is thank you to Castle hill vets and their team. You really put us at ease and helped us gratefully. The receptionist was lovely and the vets could not of explained it any better as to what was happening and what treatment to give her. A big thank you
Fantastic experience: Best vets I have ever encountered. They take such good care of me and my pets. They got my kitty in the same day as she was not well. They also took excellent care of my dog when he had a bad foot. Thank you Castle Vets for your kindness and caring. I would recommend this vets to everyone.
Fantastic experience: Castle Vets go above and beyond to treat your pet like a VIP, and are lovely with human pet parents too! I can always get an appointment when it matters, and most procedures can be done at the practice so I don’t have to take my cat anywhere else. My cat has used up quite a few of his 9 lives in the last seven years, and they’ve always been up to the challenge! Thoroughly recommended.
Fantastic experience: We have both of our cats registered with Castle Vets and they are absolutely fantastic! One of our cats is super anxious and terrified every time he has to go into carrier and leave the house. But the vet at Castel Vets are so good with him and really make a huge effort to make every vet visit for him as positive of an experience as possible.
Fantastic experience: My little puppy Luna was treated with care, compassion and competence by all who she met at Castle Vets. As for me as her owner I could not have received a better service for my precious pooch. Thanks Luna and Caroline
Fantastic experience: Very pleased with the treatment given to my small Cavalier. They gave me a late appointment so that she would have her pre-med in my arms to reduce stress. She is a rescue from a bad situation and has severe PTSD.
Fantastic experience: Due to distance reasons, we have changed to Castle House vets. Excellent choice! Lovely young lady dealt with our Jack Russells dental issues (removals) and gave advice on after care. Regular phone updates during procedure. Also- very easy to park on site.
Fantastic experience: Katie and the receptionist (with new puppy bullmastiff) were so caring and attentive with me yesterday when I came into the practice for the first time. I used to use castle hill vets 22 years ago and then left the local area. I have now moved back and it’s safe to say the information, care and diligence of the practice is outstanding. Katie really looked after my lovely puppy and made all questions feel welcome. I am so happy with my new Vets.
Fantastic experience: At Castle Vets we know our dog is in good hands! Everyone working there is extremely professional, emphatic and friendly. I felt like leaving my dog to people who really love animals and don't do their job just for money. We have always had several options explained to us and no surprises. Highly recommended!
Fantastic experience: I dont normally write reviews however, after today's appointment i had to. It has been very emotional time since the last operation my senior pug has had. We've been comming here for years and we've allways felt looked after, however today we saw Katy for the first time. She was amazing and very understanding with us. She listen to us in deep and addressed all our concerns. I can truly say she went the extra mile for my baby. She provided us with the best treatment in our situation and i do hope to see results soon. Many thanks Katy for everything!
Fantastic experience: We have used Castle vets for years with our dog and cat. They have always been friendly and helpful. Most importantly they have always taken great care of our pets. I'm a dog walker walker and boarder and I would recommend castle vets to my clients.
Fantastic experience: Visited the vets yesterday for the first time. I was signing up 2 pets on the pet health care plan. The Receptionist was really warm and welcoming, which was really resuring to see. My cat was well looked after when we visited the vet room. Looking forward to bringing my puppy tomorrow. Its really handy as I live close by to! Good experience so far!
Positive experience: Our chow chow had a major operation, face lift and eyelid surgery. The procedure went smoothly; we were very happy with the outcome; we were given a lot of advice and excellent follow-up appointments. The surgeon, Katy was excellent, a true professional and a fantastic vet. We would give her a 10/10 We really liked the practice, but there are a few extra costs that don't normally feature in other vets. For example, every time you do a direct insurance claim, the practice will charge you £39 per claim. This is not something we have previously come across. Also, their healthy pet club benefits aren't as good as other vets. Other than these minor points, Castle Vets is a very good practice and your pet will be well looked after.
Fantastic experience: I have been coming to the practice with my cats for 6 years now and have always found every single vet to be really kind and professional towards both my two cats and me. One of my cats has had many issues and the vets explored every possible avenue to make her more comfortable and give her a good quality of life.
Thank you for your lovely review Cathie. We will pass the message on to the rest of the team
Fantastic experience: Experience is always very important but my dog is registered in that Clinic since he was born so is very professional service
Fantastic experience: Ted had another wonderful visit to Castle, Katie the Vet is absolutely fantastic, she has seen him ever since he was a pup, & her affection and attention to every detail about him is second to none. Ted is an anxious boy but he isn’t like that around his lovely Vet he is calm and enjoys all the attention given by her. We Absolutely love her.❤️
Fantastic experience: Great service provided to our new kitten. The reception staff helped us get a last minute appointment over the Christmas period and Elliot our vet took his time to explain things and answer any questions we had.
Fantastic experience: Lovely friendly vets with separate cat/dog waiting rooms (brilliant touch) as well as providing calming spray and blankets for cats to stay calm whilst there. Vet was lovely and kind and did an excellent treatment of our cat. Very happy.
Thank you Rebecca
Fantastic experience: For the last 3 months I have had been coming to the vets on an almost weekly basis. I cannot recommend them enough. They have been amazing through the sad times of saying goodbye to the ongoing health issues of my other 3 dogs. From the reception team who have been nothing but friendly and helpful, to Katy, who is an outstanding vet who goes over and above to help your pet and support you, I have nothing negative to say about my experience there. I am not normally someone who posts things but I feel strongly that this whole team deserves recognition for the outstanding service provided.
Thank you for your lovely review
Fantastic experience: Wonderful vets! Not only the vet (Dr Clare) who saw our rat but also the receptionists were very kind and lovely. The vet gave us all the information we needed without us needing to dig around (which was the case in Vets4apets) and I felt heard (so much so that I was teary on the car ride back!). It was also far cheaper than what I expected.
Thank you for your review Selina, we will pass your message on to Dr Clare
Fantastic experience: Only had a few visits so far, but have always been pleased with the service. Lots of free parking space, very friendly staff, they've got a separate waiting area for cats (with blankets to cover carriers), the atmosphere is very calm and the vets and nurses have handled my cat very carefully and mindfully, they also helped with claw trimming and gave me advice on how to do it at home. I've also been given helpful advice on the phone when we had issues with fleas last year. Castle Vets host a (separate!) Vets Now team during the night and weekends, so if you're registered with CV and need emergency treatment, you and your pet will already know the place, which takes a bit of worry off the situation. And one final great thing - Castle Vets are known to look after any injured animal found outside and brought in. They post notifications on their social media accounts, so whether or not you are a registered patient, give them a follow in case your pet goes MIA (you'll also get tons of cute patient photos and great pet health content). I'd recommend the practice to everyone looking for a vet in Reading.
Thank you so much for your lovely review Anni
Positive experience: We have been customers of Castle Vets for nearly 14 years. Most of our visits have been routine and we had no issues with the practice until our pet started to suffer from significant age related health issues about 9 months ago. The practice have an impressive range of diagnostic tools and a lot of tests can be done in-house which is fantastic, however the communication side has been lacking with us having to chase for results in most instances, sometimes more than once. We also did not feel that the post op feedback (after the initial call from the surgeon) were detailed and regular enough considering the operation was not just a routine procedure. We noted a high level of turnover in the staff with at least 2 vets over a 6 month period who we worked with leaving the practice. Handovers were not always smooth and we never had one vet that we felt comfortable with that we could work with throughout. While I don’t think we would have had a different outcome because of any of the above we were left feeling like our pet was just another number and that is the last thing you want when you truly care for your pet. I suspect a lot of the issues are staffing related either due to inexperience or being overstretched. Sadly, because of this, Castle Vets will not be our practice of choice in the future and I would hesitate to recommend Caste Vets to others.
We are really sorry for your loss and sorry that you are feeling this way. If you would like to discuss this further please contact the practice to speak to our practice manager at your earliest convenience.
Positive experience: Mixed feelings and experiences about this place. Most times I leave the place grumbling about lack of eye contact from reception, long waiting times for the app, medicines or paying. You get the feeling some of the reception are on a bit of power trip. But others are nice and courteous - put it this way - will be with you in a minute goes a long way when you have been waiting ages. Everything I go there we see different people...the vet that recently looked after my cat was really nice.
Thank you for your review Patricia, we have taken onboard what you have said and are working hard to improve things
Fantastic experience: I’ve taken my dog Otis to Castle Vets since he was a puppy, and even though we’ve moved across town I still take him now as the whole team are lovely. We also sadly lost our family dog a couple of years ago and Castle Vets were nothing short of amazing. Knowing our pets have somewhere reliable to go if they need to is vital and I cannot recommend Castle Vets enough, regardless of the age of your pet. Thanks so all the team for everything they do.
Fantastic experience: Excellent advice via the Sunday emergancy line. I brought a poorly uncollared, unchipped cat to be treated; the vet quickly put the animal on oxygen and the receptionist worked with me to locate the owner and gave me an information leaflet to pass to them. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend their services.
Fantastic experience: I cannot thank these vets enough (and the out of hours team) My cat, Nala, was at death's door and needed urgent and special care. They pulled her through and returned her to perfect health. All the staff were polite, informative and patient with our often asked for updates on her condition. They kept us informed whenever there were updates. Would highly recommend them.
Thank you Paul, we are glad to know that Nala is well.
Positive experience: Over the price, treatment not help my pet. Next day I took pet to vet at pet shop, pay the same money but received better treatment. So far so good cat start recovery i can see progres after treatment plus get medication for all week in the same price as you charge for two injection.
Hi there, we are sad to see you only gave us 3 stars. We cannot find you on our client system at all though. Did you perhaps see Vets Now Emergencies out of hours rather than Castle Vets? If you did see one of the team at Castle Vets, please could you let us know why you gave this rating so we can improve our services?
Fantastic experience: Pricey vets however, the vet who look care of my pets needs was very kind and gentle, patient with the animal and took their time. Also gave advice upon further problems which may arise, and gave me options on which course of treatment would suit pet. Explain how medication would work etc. Receptionist very informative. They are very slow at dealing with prescriptions, so be prepared to wait.y pet always feels calmer in this vets
Thank you Fred
Fantastic experience: I've used Castle Vets now for around 10 years. There's good parking and it's convenient for me to get to. There are completely separated waiting areas for cats and dogs which I really appreciate it and the atmosphere is calm in the waiting room. The reception staff, nurses and vets have always been very helpful. They offer a pet healthcare club which is a good way to spread the cost of vaccination boosters and flea/worm treatment. It's also been helpful on a few occasions that there is an out of hours vet that uses the same site and covers hours when the normal practice is closed.
Thank you Liz
Fantastic experience: Have been the vets for my 2 cats ever since I had them. The only "bad" experience that we had was the out of service call we had to do on a Sunday morning many months ago when one of our cats got a limp. The vet there complained to us that she hissed at him (not really our fault that...) and he was quite condescending to my wife saying that we stressed he out by bringing her to the vets... However, whenever we have had to go there for a "normal" appointment, they have always been kind, curtiuos and nice to our cats (and us).
Thank you for your review Harmic. So sorry to hear you had a bad experience with Vets Now.
Fantastic experience: My Westie (11yo) suffers from urethral prolapse which is a very rare condition that requires special care. After being unhappy with how other vets dealt with our issue, I registered him to the Castle Vet clinic and I only have got good things to say! The vet was polite, calm and patient and she examined my boy very carefully without making him feeling uncomfortable. She listened carefully to what I was saying and also she had studied my dog’s history beforehand. She recommended the best possible solution to our problem. Overall, the clinic is clean, the staff is nice and welcoming and the prices are normal. I would highly recommend them. A big plus is that there is a parking and that it’s also within a walking distance from the Reading Town center (aprox. 10mins from St. Mary’s Butts bus stop).
Fantastic experience: A lovely trip to the vets. I was recommended by many of my friends. The reception area is welcoming, calm and clean with cat and dog only entrances to help the animals keep calm. The vet I saw was thorough but didn't push me to come back unnecessary which I appreciated. I was really happy with the service and the price felt fair and not overpriced.
Fantastic experience: Such a brilliant vets, took my pet rat here when I sadly had to put him to sleep and I couldn’t believe how kind and understanding the staff are. I thought because he was a smaller pet they may be dismissive and brief but the vet who saw him was so kind and talked me through everything, and was very understanding at how upset I was. You can see that they really do care about the pets they treat, and she was so gentle with him right until the end. A few days later I received a hand written card and pawprints of my rat from them, which was such an incredibly thoughtful thing to do and was so appreciated. The caring service they provide really helped make a horrible experience that much easier to deal with, and I will definitely be returning with my other rats in the future when needed.
Fantastic experience: Great vets I have had no issues with any of my pets that I have taken there, I love that they have two receptions one for cats and the other for dogs and all pets. Makes it a little more settled for both adult and pets alike. Expensive yes but all vets are, there is not an NHS system for them.... But the most important thing is that they take care of your pets, your extended family member as they would if it is your own. A few years ago we had our dog rushed in for an emergency operation, had stay over night but we were able to call at anytime to check on her and we did and they were so kind, it was just before Christmas and we were told on Xmas day we could collect her, the best present that year.
Thank you for your lovely review Natalie
Positive experience: We've always taken our pets here and feel very comfortable with the treatment we receive. It's been a tough couple of years and now we seem to be coming out of lockdown things are slowly returning to normal. Our last visit here felt much more normal. There appears to be quite a change in staff from pre-pandemic but we were well looked after and everyone seemed really nice.
Thank you Stanley
Fantastic experience: We have used Castle Vets for over 30 years and would recommend them to anyone. There are a number of vets, all with excellent all round knowledge and some with particular areas of expertise. We always feel that our dogs are in safe hands.
Thank you for your lovely review Dave
Fantastic experience: This place is amazing. I’ve been using them for years for family dogs as well as my own personal rabbits and guinea pigs. They always put you at ease, and are so understanding even if your concerns are ‘silly’. My husband and I will be registering our dog with them as soon as we adopt them! Would 100% recommend them.
Thank you Amy, for your lovely review
