Fantastic experience: Great with Guinea pigs. Had bubbles operated on here. Nails trimmed teeth cut. They are great with small animals and fairly priced. Solid advice on best practices for older pigs - she lived over 7years and stayed very active the whole time.

Fantastic experience: Very calm atmosphere in the premises and the staff are pleasant to deal with. The vet we saw was lovely. Very gentle with our nervous dog who calmed down quickly. Great service.

Negative experience: Took my dog in to get checked out because he wasnt very well they took us into a tiny room which was the size of a cupboard they didnt check much told me hes fine told me to give him paracetamol and gave me one gabapentin for the dog and I didnt give him them because he died a couple of days later terrible place very expensive treatment the whole thing was terrible no space or time to fully examine the dog just terrible all round

Negative experience: Was shouted abuse at in the reception by another customer, reception just sat there. As for the vets there's always an excuse or a cost. Avoid

Fantastic experience: In all the years I've been with Gilmoor, visiting both Gilesgate and Spennymoor branches, I have found the staff friendly, courteous, compassionate and helpful and always put both my pets first and making me feel they are in the best of hands getting the best care. Couldn't ask for better people for this environment.

Vets knowledgeable and helpful, and the practice plan is very good value for money with vaccinations and other treatments included and a vet visit per year free of charge. More importantly have full confidence in the treatment offered.

Fantastic experience: Judit, is amazing with chickens. I struggled to find a vet that would treat my sick chicken and I was being passed around until Judit was recommended to me. Judit and her colleague were great, their kindness and compassion shown to Gingie (who was the best pet chicken ever) was just what she needed. They tried everything they could to save Gingie, but sadly she didn’t make it. Thank you Judit for looking after her with the same respect other vets treat cats and dogs with and for being there in her last moments. To all those chicken keepers, I highly recommend Judit and the team.

Fantastic experience: I first went to Gilmoor Vets in Durham to get advice about spaying my Labrador, Honey, who was going through a difficult false pregnancy. From the very beginning, Adele was incredibly kind, calm, and reassuring — not just with Honey, but with us as well. She provided clear guidance, prescribed the appropriate medication, and laid out a thoughtful plan in preparation for Honey’s surgery. This included helping us address her significant weight gain caused by the false pregnancy. Thanks to Adele’s advice and support, we saw some improvement before surgery. However, after the procedure, I continued to struggle with managing Honey’s weight. Adele didn’t give up on us — she created a personalised diet plan and recommended a specific food tailored to Honey’s needs. We stuck to it, bringing Honey in regularly for weigh-ins and body condition scoring. The results have been fantastic: Honey has gone from the top end of the body condition chart to a healthy weight and shape. She’s now full of energy, easily keeping up with other dogs — and even enjoying agility sessions! I can’t thank Adele enough for her expertise, patience, and genuine care. It’s clear she really wants the best for her patients. Best of all, Honey is always thrilled to see her — which makes vet visits so much easier! I would highly recommend Adele and the team at Gilmoor to anyone looking for compassionate, knowledgeable veterinary care.

Fantastic experience: Took my new dog for an injection. He was given a check up with lots of useful advice for me at no extra cost. We were given plenty of time and weren’t rushed . I was extremely impressed .

Fantastic experience: Yesterday was my first visit to Gilmoor's and I was impressed at how clean it was on entering. The reception was light and airy with loads of well spaced out seating, perfect for a comfortable wait. The vet who looked after Coco was very nice with both myself and Coco, which really helped to put us both at ease. Staff in reception were also very friendly and helpful. I'd highly recommend Gilmoor's to anyone looking for a local, friendly vet.

Negative experience: I took my pup in for her injection and found the receptionist to be very friendly however the vet I found to be very dismissive and unapproachable I wouldn’t recommend this practice for that reason, I haven’t had any interaction with any other vet I am basing my opinion on my first visit which didn’t make me feel I want to return

Negative experience: Felt very little compassion or empathy from the vet unfortunately. Only positive is saw us promptly as an emergency.

Negative experience: Having booked in at reception I sat waiting for nearly an hour to be told I wasn’t booked in on the computer‍♀️had to be seen by a vet nurse who isn’t as qualified as a vet and charged same price as a vet a very stressful day as had came in between my work

Most recently Bruno had his castration operation, Aimee looked after him like he was her own can’t thank her enough. Feel really happy with the care we have received here. Fantastic experience: We have recently joined Gilmoor Vets at the Durham practice. Had our first appointment the other day and couldn't fault the experience! Everybody was lovely from the receptionists to the vet we saw. Our dog can be anxious but warmed to the receptionist and vet immediately which is always a good sign and there was a really nice atmosphere to the place. Very happy with our choice of gilmoor vets.

Fantastic experience: Poor old Rosie (my dog) has been under the weather, we phoned our vet this morning and they gave us an appointment for 1045. We saw our friend Dr Erin who is as conscientious as ever! The staff also try and accommodate Rosie's dog reactivity whilst we wait. 10/10 would recommend Gilmoor and Dr Erin!

Fantastic experience: Excellent care of both pets and owners. My dog has only been registered with Gilmoor for a month and I’m very impressed from the appointments, surgery and aftercare given so far. You can tell that the team love animals and genuinely care.

Fantastic experience: Brought my rat in with an overgrown tooth. the vet sedated and clipped the tooth in a few mins very quick and easy.

Fantastic experience: The staff are always friendly and polite and the quality of care is high. I have used this vet for many years now and they have always taken exceptional care of my dogs. Parking is a bonus as I have never failed to get into the capacious car park. It’s just one less thing to worry about if you are in a hurry or flap.

Fantastic experience: What a lovely team of staff! I had an emergency situation where my dogs spleen had twisted while down on holiday, and they fitted me in and operated with no hesitation! Sion was bang on with his diagnosis, and kept me up to date brilliantly with what was going on! Amy handled my paperwork, and all the staff were all very friendly and helpful, making this horrible situation more manageable! Thank you doesn't seem enough, but thank you to you all, for a wonderful service! Raya is very bright today so on the road to recovery ❤️‍ ❤️

Fantastic experience: I have used Gilmore vets for many many years now I have found the staff to be very friendly and very efficient. The vets they are very caring about their animals would highly recommend them to friends and family. I have four dogs and they have been going there for a long time they seem to be very happy and I am very happy with the service from them all. A couple years ago, I had to get one of my dogs put down They were very caring very understanding and did everything they could to make the experience more pleasant and dignified for myself and for the Dog And I would like to say thank you for all the help they give me and for the help I have had from them with my four dogs

Fantastic experience: Our baby bulldog fractured his dew claw on Saturday. Our vets were closed so we hunted for a vets in the are that was open. We luckily got an appt for 3.15. Sion the vet who looked after us was wonderful with Frankie and with us. He dealt with the claw quickly and safely . Alan and I would just like to say thankyou very much for everything xx

Fantastic experience: To Team Gilmoor From Team Luna I Would firstly like to mention Amy the customer care manager thank you for giving us hope on the day when nobody would words can't describe what you have done for us the day we needed urgent help for luna your duty of care and professionalism is impeccable if the world was full of amys what a beautiful place we would live in . We would also like to thank Ian the surgeon who performed the surgery on luna the two nurses lucy and hannah for taking care of her and finally the head nurse Claire . What a magnificent team yous have yous are the reason my 1 year old son Barney can chase our luna again around the house . Luna was brought home to me and demi at six weeks old when we first got our first home and luna was the start of our family . We will always cherish what yous have done for the rest of our lives . Negative experience: Couldnt tell me what was wrong with my cat, instead of referring me at first instance to a specialist. By the time he was referred it was too late to help him. No “sorry for your loss” . I got a card from specialist referral hospital who were lovely, however vets never contacted me despite the thousands of pounds spent and wasted to be told “we dont know whats wrong”. Specialist were mentioned on several appointments but we were not given more info or referred. I have lost my baby and am still grieving months on. He could have been saved or atleast his conditions lessened if we were referred on first appointment. However, i must add I Cant fault receptionist (gill i think?) she was the only person to offer us even a glass of water and check on us, offering condolences after everything we went through. I would have sold my house to save my boy and feel like we were taken advantage of. I cant even bare to watch the videos of my cat from when we were told to take him home rather than a specialist. The way we were spoken to was disgusting and made to feel like we were the reason for the illness of my cat. An INDOOR cat but were trying to say he couldve ate antifreeze. From indoors?!!! I still have nightmares from how my boy looked before he sadly passed away. I miss him terribly and wished I changed vets after the first appointment when I was made to feel like I was over reacting. If i was taken seriously we could have caught this early. I have changed vets for my other boy and wish I did this for my beloved baby sooner.

Fantastic experience: Recently had to have our elderly girl pts,15 year year old more elderly issues than anything else,,,only sense left was common ,Gilmores handled this with professional sincere empathy start to finish ,only down side was slow process of getting cremation and ashes back ,but I do accept mutual crossed wires ,so for that I would like to say a massive THANK YOU ,on behalf of me my partner Emma Greener and Skyes fury sister Mila xxx

Fantastic experience: I've had dogs for over 60 years and used various vets but Gilmoor Vets stand out for me The staff and are so pleasant and the Vets are second to nobody, I will not go anywhere else now

Negative experience: Took our dog to Gilmore to have his teeth checked out. He required dental and possible extractions for which we were quoted at least £820. We asked for an itemised bill while we considered it and the bill in total was £200 less than quoted. After querying this we were given some lame excuse as to why it would be so much. We decided to go to VETS4PETS IN WASHINGTON where the service was outstanding and price almost a third of what GILMORE wanted to charge. Shameful that they inflate their prices so much. We’ve had 2 previous dentals for our dog totalling around £1200 with Gilmore. Looking back I wished we’d went to VETS4PETS sooner. Absolutely disgraceful.

Fantastic experience: First class service from arriving with receptionists through to the vets attending to the cat. Handling and care of the cat very good making the procedure easy and animal at ease. Receptionist on departing making the visit seem-less. Easy parking too.

Negative experience: Would give no stars if possible. Took our relatively healthy 8 year old dog with a leg injury to Gilmoor Vets and was given professional advice to basically “either starve the dog to help her lose weight for surgery or put the dog down” by the ever pleasant Adele with the purple hair and a bad attitude. You’d think after years of training, a “vet” would have the ability to give better advise than to euthanise an otherwise healthy dog. No dog owner should be spoken to in the manner I was yesterday, disgusting. Totally inappropriate behaviour and I wouldn’t take a snail there never mind my beloved pet. If anyone is reading this review, do your pet a favour and take them elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: Very good vets who care about what they do. Not the cheapest but I have no worries when Lucy, our Dachshund, is in their care. Please note we have since left this vets after experiencing some very poor care when our Daschund suffered a herniated disc. Wouldn't now give the previous recommendation. Den Wilson

Fantastic experience: Mysti has always been to Gilmoor's and as she's gotten older she's had to stop by more than I would like. The staff are always so lovely and offer reassurance and support with looking after my feline companion. They offer a plan that covers her needs throughout the year with vaccinations and flea/worm treatments.

Fantastic experience: Alot of vets are not great with exotics such as tortoises. Having just moved to the area we were looking for a vets to take odo the tortoise to. We tried out Gilmoor vets and had a lovely vet called Deborah look at odo, she defiantly knows what she is doing. Very knowledgeable, friendly and handles exotics well. Will defiantly be using Gilmoor's as our regular vets.

Fantastic experience: Our darling Thumper passed away on 04/03/2023. He was known as “Miracle Bunny” by Deborah as she did everything in her power to give him extra years and quality of life, when many times because of suffering with chronic pastuerlla, we thought it was the end for him. We would like to personally thank Deborah firstly for all the marvellous medical care she gave Thumper and also the many other staff that tried to help him. Holly, Rudit, Adele and others. Thank you to this surgery for the marvellous work that you do and we are so grateful for the extra memories we had with our furry baby due to the brilliant medical care he received here.
