Medivet 24 Hour Dorchester - Southfields

Fantastic experience: Kathy and her team saved my Chow Chow and her pups after an emergency C-section. Scarring is almost invisible, perhaps they need to work for the NHS for mothers who have C-sections! I advise people at the first opportunity to join Medivet group! I cannot thank them enough, nor can my pets! THANK YOU!!!!

Negative experience: Rude, unprofessional, not a care or understanding after telling me to drive there from Yeovil along flooded closed roads at gone 10pm, with no help so had to leave my two kids alone in a new county we don’t know. Didn’t even look at my dog after I tried so hard to make my way there and said very rudely “he’s not bleeding so you can wait a few hours while I operate”. Why couldn’t they tell me this beforehand and then I would have waited until morning rather than try and right off my car on these roads in the dark and most of which were flooded and closed which the receptionist said they weren’t nor would I have left my children alone! The fact he didn’t even look at my dog and said he’s not bleeding when in actual fact his right eyelid is all ripped open and streaming with blood, as is his neck and has been since the attack two hours ago. Vile! 27.01.26

Fantastic experience: We had to use medivet dorchester as an emergency out of hours vets for our dog as our vets in yeovil dont offer emergency out of hours. They were fantastic in what was an extremely stressful situation on a Sunday afternoon. Our 11year old dog blossom stayed with them for 3 days they set to work on her immediately and kept us upto date with her progress . I can't remember the lovely ladies that looked after blossom and reassured us but I wouldn't hesitate to use or recommend them to any one and can't thank them enough

Negative experience: Aweful. No cross ref between vets and front of house staff - resulting in confusion for the customer. Female partner - rude - informing me " that people who look at internet are confused" utterly shocking. Please look at Telegraph Newspaper - on line - investigation into Medivet - shocking.

Negative experience: Absolutely appalling. This practice caused permanent injury to my dog while in their care and showed no concern or accountability. My dog was admitted to Medivet at 8:30am on 15 August 2025 with full hearing. By the afternoon, following an operation, she was completely deaf. Rather than taking responsibility, the practice dismissed the matter and treated it as my problem, displaying unprofessional and unacceptable behaviour throughout. My dog has been left traumatised and frightened, and they have even refused to see her after I submitted a formal complaint about their conduct and injury to my animal. That’s right, this company staff harm my dog permanently, lied about it and when I complain - I am the problem. Not the injury to my dog that they caused - I am. They terminated my contract - refused to see the dog they injured - that is the type of vets in this company. Please keep your animals safe—avoid this practice. Speak to other clients too; I have since heard many disturbing accounts from other pet owners who entrusted Medivet with their pets.

Fantastic experience: They’ve been looking after my cats for almost 14 years and they are brilliant. I’m very grateful for all what they’ve done for me cats: Verity, Valentine, Alexandra(long black hair:), Vanessa, Katherine, Becky and the rest of the team- I’m very sorry but don’t remember all names. Fantastic experience: I registered my cat with Medivet. They were easy to book appointments with. I took him for his first appointment on Thursday. The waiting area feels really bright and airey. The receptionist was lovely. I was impressed that they had a dedicated cat parent waiting area separate from other pets. The vet I saw was so lovely. She was extremely professional and treated my boy so well. He was so scared and she was so lovely with him. I was shown how to apply flea drops so that they work effectively. I have registered him on their petplan and I highly recommend this. I even got the first 4 weeks insurance free with petplan. I am so happy I registered him their as I know he will be well cared for.

Negative experience: Called up earlier about a baby duck that had been taken away from it's mother... They did not want to know told me to look after it myself.. I am absolutely shocked and disappointed I will never contact this place again clearly it's only about the money and not the animal in need

Fantastic experience: When our local surgery was closed our call was diverted to Dorchester. The team quickly booked a same day appointment for our anxious dog. When we arrived there was plenty of space for him and the vet, Pedro, was really good with him.

Negative experience: Very upset about lack of care here - team seemingly disconnected - brought in in a young bird - the storage room where he had to await treatment was a disgrace - unaired and damp smelling - no place for ANYONE to spend time let alone a bird in distress - I should have known he would be euthanised. They did it first thing the following morning - I wonder whether he even saw a vet. Very saddened and disheartened with entire story.

Fantastic experience: We needed an emergency vet recently and our beautiful cat of almost 19 years had to be put to rest. The young male vet we saw (wish I'd got his name) was so gentle and kind. He explained things in a way our young daughter could understand and included her in conversations. I'll be forever grateful for his care and compassion.

Fantastic experience: We took our dog to Medivet out of hours due to our local vet being closed on a bank holiday and they were incredible. Super helpful staff, very welcoming and looked after our dog from the moment we got there. They were very quick and gave us brilliant advice!

Positive experience: Not impressed this time. Vet agreed that Lyla's foot did not have cancer or a foreign body but bandage came loose within a few hours so we redressed it. Protective collar came off 4 time is 24 hours!! Left her in house for next day for two hours and returned to find bandage off and strewn all over floor and collar pulled off over her head. Told vet next day that we would cope by ourselves and then got a bill for princely sum of £150.

Fantastic experience: This was the most honest and caring vet I have used in the UK. My old girl was poorly, so we took her out of hours for a check up. Unfortunately, the diagnosis was not what we expected and after a thorough consultation had to have her put to sleep. This was devastating but the staff were amazing, sincere and totally professional. I can't praise them enough for them helping us at such a bad time. We now are going to use this practice for our other little dog foredeck ups even though we don't live anywhere near them.

I have had to use them on a number of occasions for cats and birds and they have always been kind, gentle, knowledgeable and compassionate. Negative experience: After being a happy customer at Weymouth for 3+ years, I moved to this vet. Bad first impression (misinformation via phone when calling about a specific question, subsequently chasing a response 3 days later). Now changing vets unfortunately because as the Weymouth branch advised, “they might hold the same group name but their nothing to do with us so you might not get the same service”. Pretty poor first impression, so it’s just not worth staying with them.

Fantastic experience: Medivet Dorchester 24 Hour is the best vet I have ever had for my 6 year old dog. We have had a few but my dog has never been looked after so well and received all the meds/check ups that he needs. The staff are so helpful, friendly and polite. Thank you so much!!☺️

Positive experience: Always get a training person on boosters ect feel health checks not took seriously and state of hygiene full manky floors no cloves on medical staff blood hair and grime dirt every where always not happy .

The vet I spoke to on the phone was very helpful with what the problem may have been and provided informative advice. We did end up going to Dorchester Medivet for an out-of-hours consultation and was quickly seen last night. The vet was very helpful and my cat is already feeling better from the treatment provided. Negative experience: Used this for Emergencies services 24hours was charged £374 to been seen and injection all nurse said to me dog nose doesn't look right and probably ivdd,never got phone call asked how delilah was doing wouldn't use they service again at all,all about money money not actually animal,went to different vets said could be backache or virus which has been sneezing alot

Fantastic experience: Attended Medivet in Dorchester for an emergency appt for my cockapoo Daisy. Staff were amazing - kind, supportive, caring and professional.

Negative experience: The vet herself was absolutely fantastic hats off to her really good. However I’m extremely appalled with the receptionist staff first of all telling us conflicting information (told one thing on the phone and another once there regarding payment) and secondly charging an out of hours fee when our appointment was at 6:15pm and they advertise their standard opening hours up until 7pm. Very disappointing but again the vet was lovely and has done everything she can for us.

Negative experience: We took in a kitten we were sold the day before as ir suddenly became ill. We could not claim insurance for 14 days as its a new policy. We had no option other than to sign the cat over to the vets as we were told it would cost so much money and probably would not survive. We said we would adopt him back when he gets better. Phoned this morning to see if he survived the night and was told hes fine. I was told vet would phone back to discuss getting him back. When i phoned later was told he had been rehomed and it was not company policy to tell us where he went. My grandaughter is heartbroken. They have now lost a customer. Awfull way to treat your clients.

Negative experience: So disappointed with the service we received had a call that my partner racing pigeon had been taken to there vets we couldn't get a courier to collect for a week and we were told we would be charged £150 so we told them we would travel up to collect the bird ..166.5 miles a 3 hour trip up ..on arrival the bird was in a terrible state absolutely flown out and was obviously to us it would not eat or drink.and probably wouldn't survive. The 3 hour journey home.and sadly it didn't survive..simple can't understand how a trained vet could not see how bad the bird was and it would not survive much longer as it was so ill greatly disappointed with the service and lack of professionalism.

Fantastic experience: I've been to the practice a few times with my pet bunnies, some for a annual booster, but also for emergency out of hours appointments, and each time I was met with comforting, helpful and friendly staff, they took great care of my poorly bunny, but also really great at the annual health check, bunnies are both happy and so am I! Definitely recommend

Fantastic experience: We had to say goodnight to our gorgeous girl Mimi last month, after 14yrs together. Medivet Dorchester was our 24hr emergency practice and saw Mimi within the hour Rita the duty vet was so compassionate. Rita tried her hardest to help Mimi and made sure we were fully informed of all possibilities. We unfortunately had to make the hard decision to say goodnight. Rita and the staff allowed us to spend the time to say our good nights before she left us and to stay during and after her leaving us. We cannot thank Rita and her team for all they did for us on that distressing evening. Our faith in the staff led us to leave our then practice and register our dogs with Dorchester Medivet

Fantastic experience: Had to visit as an emergancy vet as mine fidnt offer out of hours care, what a heartfelt vet who looked after our poor pooch, not the outcome that we wanted but a lovely vet and brilliant care given.

Fantastic experience: Sadly, we lost our beloved Roxy, our rescue Frenchie, whilst she was in 24 hour care. I cannot praise Rita, the vet on duty enough. She was kind and compassionate, supportive and gentle. It was a highly emotional situation and the care she showed Roxy and ourselves was hugely reassuring. Thank you for navigating us through the most dreadful evening, with such compassion.

Fantastic experience: We were holidaying in Dorset with our family and dog. At 7pm the dog grabbed a large piece of sweetcorn on the husk from our grandaughters plate and swalled it whole. We contacted a local Vet who told us to wait and see if it passed or caused any symptoms, in which case we should seek help when we got home. Not happy with this advice we contacted our own Vet in Watford who recomended we contacted Medi Vet 24 hour service in Dorchester. I called them and they suggested we came straight down. We were seen promptly ( saturday night at 830pm) The Vet explained the danger of leaving the husk and the likelyhood of it causing a blockage further down the gut. He gave our dog a small injection of an emetic and 10 minutes later the offending piece was out. It was much bigger than we had expected. The Vet ( I am afraid I dont remember his name but he was Spanish) was kind caring and explained everything in great detail. Thank you again.

Fantastic experience: We would like to thank Medivet for their care towards our elderly girl over the Easter weekend. They acted promptly when they discovered she was unwell and kept her in for treatment. They kept us regularly updated with how she was doing, and allowed us to visit her and assist with feeding. Unfortunately, since bringing her home two days ago, we have sadly had to put her to sleep due to a rapid deterioration. But without your swift intervention and care, we would not have been able to bring her home and have an extra 24 hours with her.

Fantastic experience: My cat Salem was in a fight and came off worse. I rang them out of hours and by 9.15pm he had been treated and sent home with medicine. The vet was so kind and caring. I cannot thank them enough, considering how angry he was too...Thank you.

Negative experience: Only given 1 star as 0 stars is not an option. Service was awful, no care given to our dog at all … a complete “show me the money” experience … quoted a ridiculous fee, and given that our dog had already been diagnosed with Pancreatitis, then declared that unless we paid 50% up front there and then they would turn him away, despite our insurance company already agreeing to cover the costs in full. I would strongly recommend that no one ever darkens their doors unless you’re keen to see vets prioritise the almighty pound over any form of care for the animals. Truly shocking experience.

Fantastic experience: I went to medivet in Dorchester as an emergency outpatient for my cat klaus. The team were wonderful and helped klaus back to health over the course of 4 days. The staff always made sure to update daily to let me know how klaus was doing. If it wasn't for the team I don't think klaus would be with me now. Thank you all so much

Fantastic experience: Very friendly, caring & efficient staff Clean & tidy. Provide little touches such as soft bed for arthritic pets whilst waiting & a candle which is lit in the waiting room when someone is saying goodbye to their pet, thus ensuring a quiet atmosphere when leaving There’s a chirpy budgie too!

Negative experience: Took my dog in to be neutered, during which the vet couldn't get a line in to his stomach so instead of asking for help kept trying until he ruptured my drugs spleen causing him to almost die. Spleen was removed then he was prescribed drugs with the wrong dosage on. No one followed up with me and apologised until I complained. After I complained and still had to pay over £500 for the neutering but the practice manager emailed and said I could have the splenectomy (which was clearly never asked for) for free as a "goodwill gesture" as he put it. Still not even a phone call and when I replied to his email he then ignored it. This practice has gone massively downhill since medivet took over. AVOID!

Positive experience: First of all, thank you for all the tests that you provided for my dog. But I'm not certainly happy with the outcome. That your only solution for possible liver mass tumor was to put my dog down and you did not offer me any treatment for her. That is very disappointing. I paid more than thousands of pounds in 2 days without any real treatment for her. Only one day in the hospital on fluids. That was all. I'm certainly not happy with it. Also, you did not give me my dog's blanket and spoon.

Fantastic experience: Lovely vet practice, building always clean and peaceful, birds in reception are fun, staff are knowledgeable,skilled, good listeners, can't ask for more.

Negative experience: If we could give zero we would. Never, ever, have we experienced such cold, uncompassionate and rude service anywhere, let alone in an environment you expect to be all about the animals. Here it appears to he all about the ego, the smart branding and state of the art surgery and nothing about compassion, smiles, kindness. We can only hope all day our pet was there he was receiving the care that has clearly been kept from owners. It left me cold to leave my cat behind and the feeling was echoed, thankfully by my husband who collected him. We’ve never experienced anything like it. Sign here, pay now, don’t ask questions, minimum info given. And sadly, a traumatised cat at the end of it. All that said, the post op brief was very good.
